Joystiq does this thing called 4 For February where people state 4 games to beat during the month. It's just a friendly competition to strike at the backlog. Anyone wanna join me? I had fun doing it last year.
In this context I assume "beat" is to finish the story.

The Order

Uncharted Golden Abyss

Infamous First Light

Rogue Legacy

I reserve the right to change either of the last two or both.

Yeah, I figure we can just post our picks here. I can throw it in a spreadsheet.

How does it work? Same games from each person, each person names their own 4 titles, or the other person picks 4 titles from the competitor's backlog?
You choose 4 games from your backlog to complete. Post them here. The main focus is to motivate each other.

I might do a prize drawing for everyone who completes 4 games. But it'll be too easy to beat 4 short games and call it a day. Might have to work out rules if we do that, but I don't want it to get too complicated or restrictive. It's more for fun.

No, Flying V was the way to go.

That's perfect. No need to get all the trophies or anything. I'm not looking at trophy completion percentage. I'll do a spreadsheet then.

FFX is what he will say. I am willing to bet his life on it.
I didn't mention FFX because it's been a very long time since I played it (longer than the other games I mentioned) and I plan on playing the HD Remaster on Vita...one of these days.

I do remember it being one of my favorite FFs, though.

FFIV appeals to my taste a lot more than FFVI. I've never liked games with a large cast or characters you can mix-and-match at will. Plus the open-world approach for the World of Ruin was unappealing. Open world games seem to detract pretty heavily from the story and narrative for me. You lose a lot of the urgency when a game goes from "Run down this corridor and stop the bad guy at the end!" to "There's a bad guy over there. But you can go climb this radio tower instead if you want to. No rush." Not to say open-world games can't be fun, I definitely enjoyed AC: Rogue for example, but story can't be the focus in the same way.

Kefka was awesome, though. I haven't played every FF game, but Kefka is the best among those I have (1, 4, 6, 7, FFT.)

I need some motivation to beat games, but I am doubtful I can finish four games in one month. I'm not a monster.

How about for me it's just:

Shadow of Mordor

If I finish that I'll add something else.

Secret of Mana was better than CT and FFIV was better than FFVI. :shame:

Haven't played DQV. I'd like to. Which version are you referring to? The original SNES, PS2 remake, or DS remake?
Chrono Trigger is a lot better than Secrets of Mana!!! FFVI has a better story, cast, and soundtrack that FFIV!!!

The DS remake is the best one, and I am pretty sure it is the only one in English. There is probably a rom of the SNES one with a patched English translation out there somewhere. Definitely worth playing though, the villain is one of the best villains ever.

You might not like it though, since you don't seem to like good games :p

Liking because of the general discussion.

There is no universe that has ever existed though where SoM is better than CT. FFVI is also better than IV, though I am more willing to entertain this argument than your other. I personally like IV more than VI, but i also acknowledge that it was the first JRPG that I played with any semblance of a story, so it connected more with me. If I remove that, VI is definitely the superior game in just about every aspect.

Is it okay if we barely started the game?

If so:

Shadow Warrior

Demon Gaze

Rogue Legacy

Asura's Wrath

If not:

Rogue Legacy

Final Fantasy 13

Apotheon

Transistor

Also same thing that pharm said.

Hopefully, it doesn't matter if they are rental games, or games that have already been started.  If not, then here would be my current planned 4.  For me, I count getting the plat/100% as finished, but I realize others wouldn't have the same criteria.

NFS: Most Wanted Vita

TWD Season 2 Vita

Lego Batman 2 Vita

Disney Infinity 2.0 PS4

Dont make it complicated. If you really want to do this, just throw our picks in a sheet like you said and if we complete our 4 (or more) you can pick someone you like and give them a prize if you want to. Or not. If you do give a prize, pick whomever you like. And then we can all ridicule the winner for sucking up to you. Unless its me, then everyone will say how great and deserving I am.

The rules:

  1. There are no rules.
  2. Seriously, there are no rules. You can pick new games, old games or even titles that you stopped playing that one time during finals week in college because your academic life depended on it (it's cool, we've all been there). The only requirement is that you pick four games.
  3. Start at the beginning of a game, or start where your old save file left off, it doesn't matter! We can't drive over to your house to force you to start a game over; we don't know where you live, after all.

It's not in the same league as the ones mentioned. You were wise to leave it off.

Ill throw down:

God of War 3

Uncharted 2

Far Cry 3

inFamous 2 (if being a decent chunk into the game is OK, otherwise I'll revise this last one).

Since you guys also seem to want to start another long FF discussion.  My favorite and clearly the best is 3/6.  But I also really liked 12.

Sweet then I'll just stick with my first list even though I'll probably play some the freebies this month.

How is Rogue Legacy on both lists? This is madness!!!!!!!!
Never played the game but I plan on it if it is chosen for the monthly competition.

Can always mix in some smaller PSN releases to round out the 4 like Thomas was Alone or Unfinished Swan which you can beat in an afternoon.

Did any of you guys play Final Fantasy 9?  It doesn't seem like it otherwise, it would clearly be in this discussion.

I enjoyed all the Final Fantasys to be honest.  Just not 13, I couldn't finish that game.

So I've made it like 3/4 of the way through REmake before realizing I was playing on easy. Could have sworn I picked Normal when prompted. Oh well. It's really awesome even though I'm swimming in ammo and first aid sprays. I just feel like kind of a pussy.

God of War 3

Uncharted 2

Reading this list I might not be as hopeless with my backlog as I thought. I've finished all those except for Far Cry 3 since I don't play 1st person games for the most part.

Pixeljunk Shooter Ultimate may swap in for any of my four since I'll likely get that during commuting times this month, even though I'm half way through already.

The reason I think SoM was the better game is because it was actually fun. I played through SoM several times but CT only once. I didn't find CT particularly enjoyable either for the characters, story, or gameplay.

For my February list:

Alice: Madness Returns

AC: Liberation

Transistor

Spec Ops: The Line

That gives me PS3, Vita, PS4, and PC games in that order.  :D/

Many, many years ago, though I have the PSN downloadable version I can play on Vita. I didn't really pay attention to the story back then, so I wouldn't be surprised if I loved it that much more now.

I liked FFXIII more than a lot of people, even if the game was basically 30 main-game hours + 60 post-game/side-quest/plat-earning hours.

The 4 games for the Fab Feb 4some:

1. Child Of Light

2. Mordor

3. The Order (if it reviews well)

4. Costume Quest 2

Runner Up: Strider (PS4)...want to get back to it, really fun game.

Yeah I'm hopelessly behind. Got the Uncharted & inFamous dual packs w/ my PS3, and I'm just now getting around to the sequels. Well technically I started inFamous 2 awhile ago, but got distracted by other shiny games. All the talk here about the series has me jonesing to get back to it though.
