Honestly, what Velo said. There's a lot of pointing and clicking and X spamming. If you can't get through it normally I don't know how much you'd end up liking the game.So I know there is a pretty good size group here that seem to have really enjoyed the Dangan Ronpa games. Are any of you not anime fans but still enjoyed the game? I looked through some gameplay videos on youtube and it really seems even more like a Visual Novel than what VLR did. There does not seem to be anything but pointing and clicking and spamming X to get through the huge amount of dialog. Maybe I just didn't get far enough in to see actual gameplay?
I do not think I am interested in doing what I see from that video for 30-40 hours. I liked VLR at first, but by the end I just wanted it to be done. If I thought that, would you still recommend this game? I am seriously considering just sending it back to Gamefly.
I'm an anime fan and I normally don't like the Visual Novel type games (for the reasons you listed above), but for me the court battles in Danganronpa had enough variation to keep me going. I enjoyed the story and the characters, and then the extra gameplay elements just tied it in. I was never able to make it through the Phoenix Wright games personally, because I didn't care enough about the story and the courtroom elements were just more straight point and click. Danganronpa kind of switches up the elements with more rapid fire segments and the brief rhythm segments.
I'd take a look at the courtroom gameplay segments on youtube if you can just to see if that's your kinda thing. But if those don't look super appealing then you may want to skip it. The game is mostly point, click, dialogue.
