DQ10 is coming to PS4 as well, is that new news that wasn't already mentioned? I guess its an MMO?
I didn't think it was worth mentioning since it's been a Wii U exclusive for a while, there hasn't been any indication that we might be getting it, and I'm not sure if it had (or still has) a subscription fee attached to it in Japan.

What kind of photo editing? If Photoshop, I doubt it. Those Adobe apps are resource hogs.
yeah zimm that thing would probably struggle a bit with picasa.
For wife to do her fancy camera photos. She uses Lightroom & Photoshop. Not the full programs but the Elements versions or whatever.

Our current lappy is barely trudging along and overheats very quickly and has gotten slow. Looking for something new but cheap.

The Gamestop TIVs for all of the games with $37.50 bases dropped to $30 or less.
Noticed that earlier today, glad I got mine in.

It's stupid Dragon Quest is on 3DS and not the Vita. Hopefully it looks better than the crap that is Xenoblade. Jaggy heaven.

I want to post a snarky comment in response to this, but I will hold back.

If you want cheap for that purpose, desktop is probably better bang for the buck unless things have recently changed.

With something like Photoshop just get something with a decent amount of RAM. Go for at least 8GB as most laptops will come with 4GB as a base model. A tip though most laptops have user replaceable RAM but do your homework...but in the end if you buy it afterward and put it in you'll probably save $$$...especially if you go up to 16GB. Also get an SSD hard drive for faster read\writes.

The Elements version is also most likely less demanding than a full version.

Snark away my friend. I don't come here for the hugs and hand holding. Well sometimes.

But Zimm looooooooves snarky comments!

I'm sure his wife needs it to airbrush her profile pictures for all her online dating site accounts.

Actual Sunlight hits Vita on Aug 11th:

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2015/07/28/actual-sunlight-seethes-onto-ps-vita-august-11th/

It's a Canadian game originally written in RPG Maker, then ported to Unity. It's rated 18+ for depression and suicide. Seriously.

PC-version trailer:

It's only $5 on Steam so if it's the same price, I will pick it up. Reviews are mostly positive.

You are essentially broken up. You have debts that are mostly from her (granted outside of anyone's control). Aren't you the only one making any sort of income? You won't let yourself get a PS4 (which is cool if you can't afford it), but you are shopping for a laptop to make what I assume is your wife's hobby less of a pain for her.

You are a better man than me.

Sooner she finds a new sugar daddy all the better for Zimm.

If it's overheating odds are good that the fans and heatsink just need to be cleaned out. Depending on the laptop model this might be easy or a huge pain to do. Honestly I'd start by cleaning out the heatsink/fan if you can and then wiping the hard drive and doing a clean Windows install. Computers don't get slower over time--they just get more bogged down with garbage, and a clean OS usually makes a big improvement on how responsive a system is.

If those two steps (which are free) don't do the trick you'd want to start looking at dropping some money. Depending on what you have this may not require a new laptop. You might be able to just upgrade the memory or swap in a solid state hard drive. The possibilities there vary per model and what you'd want to upgrade would also vary.

Fixing your existing computer might be a bit more work than just spending cash for a replacement, but I can't imagine you're swimming in money right now anyway.

PSN blog posted about King's Quest again, and the first episode is now listed on the store. I asked about a platinum trophy for the collection but have not yet gotten a response.

All of this is correct, except that my student loans make up a good portion of the debt too.

I have no comeback to your excellent point.

So it is settled then. Blow out the dust, help her with pic for online dating sites and get a PS4 with the money you would have spent on the new laptop.

This review makes me want to preorder the complete collection, plat or not: http://www.destructoid.com/review-king-s-quest-a-knight-to-remember-296636.phtml
Nice, I was about to link that. PC gamer is positive as well:

I like this:

It’s definitely Telltale-influenced, though you’ll spend more time actually doing things in King’s Quest (solving puzzles, exploring, et cetera) instead of spending time in dialogue trees. Not that Telltale’s way of doing things is bad—I love those games too. King’s Quest just takes a more active approach, with actions/reactions instead of you-spoke/they-remembered. And I’m already itching to replay A Knight to Remember to see how much it changes when I make different choices.
I do wish he'd actually gone back and made different choices and reported how much impact that made, though.

But they also said they made more of these than any of their other CEs. I got both the Fallout 3 and New Vegas CE for $30 months after release, so I don't think these will be a huge pain to find if someone really wants one.
There are bound to be extras as a result of those who preordered one but won't actually keep their order.

I'll probably wait for future episodes' reviews before getting the whole series because I don't feel comfortable throwing down $40 for a 5-episode (+ epilogue) series when only the first is out.

Yeah, especially when we have no idea what the release schedule is like. It may be much faster than Telltale. It may be one episode every six months. No telling.

Zimm, I know you and the wife are on the outs, but If blowing on it doesn't help you may want to:

Oh wait, y'all are talking about blowing the dust out of the laptop.  Never mind, too many things going on today.  I'll just go back to work.  Wake me when the store updates, so I can add more stuff to my backlog.

I wouldn't mind taking a break from buying PSN stuff. I'm still recovering from Tembo's badassitude.

First OctoDad and now Tembo... the more you hype a game the less you seem to enjoy it.
Octodad was great. Tembo I'm more tepid on.

Conceptually it's awesome, but the execution is not what I hoped for. It's not quite built to speed through in a satisfying way, you have to be cautious too often and it has some really deliberate platforming. The controls are questionable - mid jump you only press down to butt stomp (not down + button). If you press one of the buttons you launch downward at an angle. Both of these things happen for me too often accidentally resulting in a death. Holding down a button to charge works ok, but if you jump when charging I don't think you can convert to the floaty jump after you charge jump which is sometimes needed for precision so there's more guesswork involved and it lends more to the cautious manner of the game.

There's also some gigantic distances between checkpoints which is totally acceptable and very platform-y, but sometimes there's situations where you have a sliver of health and you have to choose between taking on a hidden section before you touch the checkpoint and possibly dying and going back to the beginning or hitting the checkpoint right away and having to redo the hidden section if you die (if it's even possible).

I dunno, maybe I've just become a bitch but it feels like there's more forces working against my lack of skill than usual in this game.

edit - I'm not sure what I said about octodad when I played it, but the only things I remember not enjoying about it were how bitchy they made his wife and the ending sequence (which wasn't awful, just not as joyful as the rest of the game).

It was more what you said when I was about to start playing it that led me to believe you were not as high on it as I thought. Sounds like I was mistaken.
