At first I thought the better version was on the right. Turns out that's the PS3 version and it is brighter at least as shown here. So, um, that's pretty subtle "improvements" on the PS4.
Did you not maximize the video or at least switch it to 1080p? The left definitely has higher-quality textures and AA. The right is blurry and jagged in comparison.

I think some aspects looked better on the PS3. Like Sully suddenly got much younger looking. Same for young Drake. He went from grey hair to darker hair. The details though were drastically different on the PS4 version. The shots of the plane flying was the first where I really noticed a big difference.

What was the cutoff on the scores? I scored 213,371,610 yesterday between 6-7PM CDT on Terminator 2.
sorry, too late! especially since it would've put you ahead of me for the week and my fragile ego couldn't handle that.

for the record I guess consider noon on Sunday the cutoff. usually I get to the scores around 3p CDT and don't look at them again since every week I have mysteriously busy Sunday nights.

that is a pretty badass score though.

I wish I could go next gen and lose some of my grey/gray hair.

The central park score will be taken x 1,000,000 just to fuck with you guys. Sound good?
That would make it way in the other direction. 1000 on CP would be 1 billion. Now Taxi is irrelevant, which has scores in the millions. I don't have a magic number for you, but x5000 would be closer. Then a 6000 score on CP will be around 30 million after multiplier.

It didn't work for me. Mine is getting worse. Cutting my hair super short this last go around made it even worse. It would not change my mind if I had known, but grey stands out a lot worse when you see a lot more pink scalp beneath it apparently.

I guess I didn't up the resolution of the video. I will try the video again...

Ok, tried watching some of it 1080p full screen and you can see the different for sure especially when they pause it and do that swipe thing, but not sure how noticeable it will be while playing. Also I only have a 720p TV, so I wouldn't see as much difference I guess.

I too learned this last year, but I prefer it short anyway. I actually don't notice it being grayer when it's short but people comment more when it is.

Pinball is apparently much more serious business than even trophies.
Yes.

Though, I will want to go for top spot on both regardless, but if we're going to skew one way or the other I'd rather we skewed it toward Taxi. So basically I shouldn't have said anything in the first place! I know!

I was fooling myself when I said I wasn't going to do dumb trophies anymore.  I'm still going to do them, but god I hope it's at a reduced rate.  Today I'm changing the date on my vita forward a day whenever I think about it so I can get enough candy to buy the king of all cosmos silly clothes for a trophy.  brb updating facebook status

Nope haven't watched anything. What's so different about it, specifically gameplay wise? I don't care about the story being different or puzzled together. If I wanted to play a game for the story I'd watch a movie.

More forgiving stealth gameplay, if you are spotted by 1 guy time will slow down and you will have a few seconds to cap him without him raising the alarm.

Sandbox gameplay, you are given a task and you can tackle it anyway you want. Kill everyone on the base? Call in air support as cover? Use remote C4 charges to cause confusion or damage infrastructure at critical times? It's less linear.

Resource management - In the sandbox there are supply trucks to pillage and smaller optional bases to raid. People you find you can interrogate for information if they are soldiers or force into your service if they are scientists. Then you can pick and choose what items you want them to research at your home base which results in new or improved gear you can take into the missions, it's supposedly a version of the system in Peacewalker.

This is the Valenzetti equation all over again, amiright?

So is Gamestop just straight up rip-off artists? I ordered those 5 used amiibos, they sent me 4 of them, closed the order, and fully charged me. What the hell?

this seems about right. once upon a time their website was hilariously glitchy in a positive way - discounts that scaled and multiplied in weird ways so that if you kept adding items everything got cheaper. massive stacking glitches. then I think they got sick of it and revamped. ever since then I've only had negative things happen to me and their customer service is like trying to communicate with a can of tomato sauce.

I have always preferred mine short too. Going from a 6 guard to a 4 made a lot more difference than I anticipated. My wife thinks it is a little too short, so I may just go with a 5 next time.

Pinball Arcade looks like they are trying to improve the high scores lists on their website, but right now for me it doesn't appear that it considers anything to be my score unless it's from the iOS version. They have a way to have a Personalized high score list (i.e. a friends list) on there, which would be cross-platform and would make for a way for PS4-only players to see the tournament scores. Hopefully they can get this working right.

I tried adding "Crunchewy" to the personalized list as a way of seeing my PSN scores, but when searching for that user it just then returns with "Ambiguous". Not sure what they are trying to tell me here.

Okay but the way they talk about the resource management and the base etc turns me off still. And I seriously doubt doing all that stuff is going to be quick. Setting up all this stuff probably takes some time. So yeah its more action than old MGS but it isnt straight up kill em all action like a Just Cause. I will certainly try out MGS5 at some point but probably not until its real cheap.

I'm not really understanding why Trine 3 is a 3d game. Do many people appreciate it when a franchise completely changes format? Seems like it would turn off a lot of a fanbase.

Skip to 3m for the gameplay:

Game is still gorgeous but the camera and movement seem really awkward.

But we already have Assassin's Creed and Just Cause for that kind of gameplay. Annoying stealth and long cutscenes are MGS's trademark schtick.

I think it looks cool. Trine needed a bit of a shake up, the formula is pretty stale by now. I'm not sure making it 3Dish will be enough, but I think it looks cool.

I didn't even know Trine 3 existed.

Here's a good example of the fun stuff that used to happen. Not sure why I was buying this crap to begin with though so gamestop probably still came out ahead.

I've actually been having the reverse on a few of my orders lately, they send me 4 or 5 of 6 games and then refund me the whole order. Lol.

I skipped around a bit in that Trine 3 video. They certainly made it look bad, but maybe I just saw the bad parts by chance. Especially that part where it looks like there's a platform to jump, but no it's not a platform and you fall onto spikes, and then it turns out that the camera was just zoomed in to start and completely hid the path you were supposed to take.

Trine and Trine 2 always felt like I was twerking along the environment with my character, not sure it could get worse. I think they need to really work on controls in general. The art was never the issue.

Pete, since you are the master of Remote Play, I was hoping you could help me with an upcoming dilemma.  I thought maybe it could help others at some point, so I decided to leave it in the thread.

I have a bundle of 3 versions of a Japanese VN coming in the mail sometime soon.  Playing PS3 and Vita at once was no issue since I only needed the TV for one of them.  Playing PS3 and PS4 along with a Vita would be a challenge.  I was thinking I could just remote play the PS4 one on my second Vita so I would not be bothered with switching inputs.  However, the PS4 version makes use of the 2nd set of shoulder buttons.

How easy is it to map that to something else?  For example, the Vita version uses a left/right on the L or R stick instead of L2 and R2.  Is that something that is possible?

No, you didn't just see the bad parts. I've never been a fan of 3D in a sidescroller simply because the depth axis never seems to work correctly; the character and other objects are constantly hitting or missing each other unexpectedly because a sidescroller camera simply can't capture the physical space and distances well. Trine 3 doesn't seem to be an exception to this problem.

The games get cheap quickly. I imagine it'll be <$5 within six months. I'll give it a try around then, but I expect to find it pretty frustrating.

Has the season pass for AC:IV ever been on sale? Was thinking about picking the game up from BBY clearance.
I believe it was when they had the big AC sale last time. Since Freedom Cry is a majority of the DLC and I remember that being much cheaper, I think it was still a rather shitty deal.

I used to lead the flip group here for a couple of years and I remember tons of glitches from bestbuy, tru, awd and gamestop. I had over $1000 credit at bb, amazon and gs and like 500 at tru. Time flies tho and they havnt made many mistakes the past few years. Last big glitch was like 2 summers ago when bestbuy gave me about $1500 free. Great times for those that were involved when we had cag groups

Damn, looks like BB credit is a bust for me, not many of the flip games at my local GS near work. Don't really feel like going to multiple stops just to transfer the credit. Oh well.

You're at the mercy of the developer unfortunately. When they do their remote play coding it seems they either specify how the vita controls work (i.e. rear and front touch screen quadrants mapped to ps4 buttons) or they use some default (i.e. rear upper touch left / right = L2 / R2). As far as I know there's no outside-of-game way to change the button mappings.

Found just enough to make it work but yeah at least half the list wasn't available. 4 of my 5 are supposedly waiting. Put the last one in later. Will leave me with $20 in change. Will buy a $20 PSN card.

Well poop... Have you ever used the Vita control remapping to try to make it do what you wanted it to do or does that not translate when doing remote play?

Anybody interested in MGS V should read this:

http://www.gamesradar.com/metal-gear-solid-5-phantom-pain-review-progress/

Here's a few excerpts (no spoilers):

For fear of spoilers, Konami invited journalists to review the game at five-day 'boot camps' tied to strict NDAs (non-disclosure agreements). We played between 9am to 5pm, with no unsupervised play outside these hours. That's a maximum play time of 40 hours, assuming no stoppages for eating, drinking, stretching… or reality. So you're trying to complete a 35-50 hour game (or longer, depending on your play style and the nature of your 'completion'… I can't say more), that you've been anticipating for five years, in a realistic window of 30-35 hours. On one hand, you're finally immersed in one of the deepest, most experimental, open-worlds in history – overwhelmed by side-missions, upgrades and secrets – on the other, haunted by a tick-tock race to reach the 'end' without knowing when that is.

Konami's conundrum is clear. Sending out retail review copies would lead to ruinous spoilers, but the alternative is no pre-release reviews. Extended access under duress is better than none but, twinned to our NDA, makes this a 'review' of what I can't and won't say. So with some fairly major caveats laid bare – is MGS5 everything we were all hoping for?
If you've struggled with the previous MGS games' fussy controls, or bewildering plot, this is the most intuitive, self-contained entry yet. At core, it plays like MGS: Ground Zeroes, but the game is more tonally upbeat, though not without teeth-clenching shocks or grey area morality. The game's full of subtle nods to MGS lore, but all the really hardcore, fan-nodding, plot nuances are hidden in the optional cassette tapes to be listened to as you roam the battlefield. You don't even need to know the plot of Ground Zeroes and the game recaps it in any case. From the intro's opening seconds, you're intuitively funneled to learn the controls, and your motivations are clear: it's a revenge tale, pure and simple. At least, that's Kojima 'simple' but… you'll see.
Here's the close:

What do I think, at this stage, as vaguely lunatic fan? It's incredible. For me MGS5 is the densest, most considered, open-world stealth game ever, with a sense of physical space to rival Red Dead Redemption, but precise, deep controls that only the greatest Japanese action games seem to understand. It doesn't really feel like any MGS game before it, but is the culmination of everything the series has been building toward. The MGS series has always been defined by its contradictions: its double and triple agents, its characters of multiple aliases and grey area morality. If Metal Gear Solid is an anti-war series that makes war feels heroic, MGS5 is its purest expression yet. At the same time, though, it’s the least 'Metal Gear' Metal Gear game ever, liberated from its traditional, relatively-linear structure and yawing cut-scenes. That's my non-review review and, until I receive and finish the game, this confounding duality is as fitting a conclusion as the brilliant, challenging and idiosyncratic MGS5 deserves.
It actually sounds pretty interesting. I'm looking forward to seeing what you guys post about it when it goes live.

I've never looked at it only because I think you can only remap physical buttons and not front/rear touchpad stuff which is where the real pain is. If they'd add that ability then re rev2 would actually be playable instead of having to use the top left touchscreen to aim and top right touchscreen to shoot (WHY WOULD THEY DO THIS).

edit - I saw someone say you can do button remapping on the ps4 and it might translate through to vita if they don't use custom control schemes. this sounds complicated.

For most shooters I haven't found the remote play on Vita to be very useful.  Tapping on the front screen or rear sensors for shooting is less then ideal.  Without the L2 and R2 trigger buttons I find it more frustrating then useful.  To quickly pop into a game to check something while the TV is otherwise in use (or if you aren't home) is pretty cool.  I used a few times when I was done with the main part of a game and was just running around looking for collectibles.

I know others don't have the same issues with the lack of L2 and R2 that I do though.
