Dated a girl in college from Jasper IN and she took me to Holiday World on a random week day. It was pretty fun for the coasters and water park. At the time they only had like 2-3 coasters, but The Voyage was brand new for that year I think. It was pretty great for a wooden coaster, we rode it like 4-5 times in a row as there was no line.

Outside of the 3-4 coasters they now have, the rest of the park is lame kid stuff mostly and not that great. Water park is pretty solid though, one of the better ones Ive been to for that part.
That's pretty funny. Jasper is the closest "big" town to me. It's where I usually go shopping and it's my closest Gamestop.

ShaukDotDJ makes a great point

Bolded part is probably the best analogy I've ever read!
The restaurant analogy absolutely does not make sense. The guy is complaining that we have a choice on which sandwich to eat plus get a discount on two others. Instead he'd rather the restaurant pick for us and also remove the discount option. That's just stupid.

Steam has been doing it for a while with the Community Choice votes during their sales. It doesn't actually matter most of the time because the games you vote on still end up getting the same sale at a different time. Granted people are morons about what they vote for--Grow Home is probably the cheapest of the games on the list--but the vote adds a bit of fun and opens things up a bit more than the normal monthly selections.

I'd rather have the restaurant pick for me than go with the majority of the customers, many of which clearly have terrible taste in games food.

The restaurant is still picking which items to vote on, though, so that's a pointless complaint. It's not open submission.

quick question to see if I am dumb or something.  I do an auto financing thread in the finance sub thread here, it's dumb because two guys keep going in saying everyone is dumb if they finance and to always pay cash for the car is the way to go.  While I agree, it isn't realistic for most.  Do most of you guys have car payments, or paid cash.  Did you pay cash because you have the income, or just saved up.  Just wondering.

My work does the same thing, two weekends every summer and one in October. That's the only time we go since early access means there are zero lines. We didn't go this year, but we could've totes had a two man PSNOT gathering assuming her company was there either 8/15 or 8/22 when mines was.
Ha, we were there on the 15th. Kinda sucked though cause there were at least 2 other companies that had early access deals that morning so the lines were still fairly busy.

I have never paid cash for a new car. I have paid half once. Tied up all my cash. Worked out ok but I wouldn't do that again. I am sure the banking people here would probably say if you invest your money wisely and get a good rate on the auto loan that probably is a better use of your money.

But in reality most people can't afford to buy a new car for cash.

I did not get mayo on my meatball hero on Saturday. Am I terrible?
You aren't terrible, I should of stated deli meats w/ mayo. I don't think mayo would be good on a meatball sub. My friends roommate used to always put mayo and mustard on Subway meatball sandwiches. That doesn't sound good at all and if imagine :puke: all over the floor.

I am one of those banking people, and currently getting my masters in finance. Money is more valuable today then it is in a year or 2 years, unless you have a guaranteed return that makes it worth while. A car is a depreciating asset, as a result the moment you pay cash for a car, you lose money. It is a bad item to invest in any way.

As bad as it sounds, with the way the used car market is today, I have seen a huge push for leasing cars... as much negativity goes towards that option.

I got a car payment but I ended up qualifying for 0% APR so that was a big plus.

No car payment because I paid my car off a while ago. My next car I'll pay cash.

I am a firm believer in living well below your means. I drive a beater, but I could afford a much nicer car. But I have such a short commute that I don't see the value in it. Plus every year I drive the beater puts me closer to retirement than if I'd bought a new car.

Paying interest is never great but anyone saying it's "dumb" to finance a car are just spoiled or out of touch. Yeah, let me just pluck $12-$20 grand off my money tree out back.

My last car purchase, which was like 9 years ago, I had about 30% saved for a down payment then made payments for about 2 years while saving and was able to pay it off around then. When I buy my next one I will probably do similar. Good down payment to get as low a rate as possible then work on saving to pay it off when I can.

I'm a leaser, it's great. We had pretty specific needs though. having four car seats at once it was hard to find a car that could accommodate that and it was hard to justify a long term purchase option when they'd be out of the car seats or in boosters in a few years. It was a lot cheaper than buying and better than 'making something work'. we can either roll to a new lease or buy it at used value whenever knowing exactly how it's been treated.

My daily drives have always been sub $5k junkers though that I donate when they die for the tax write-off.

Also keeps insurance premiums down. I'm probably gonna ride my Cobalt out til it dies. It runs just fine even if it is not very fancy.

My commute is also extremely short. I put about 6000-7000 miles on my car every year.

If you have a 3DS and like art then this is a must buy. I don't have any plans making it to the Louvre anytime soon. There's also a update that makes the recent changes of the Louvre for the app. The Louvre gives 3DS's to visitors so the use this for the tour since there's so much to see. They actually have physical copies but can only be bought at the Louvre and are region free. I picked the digital version off the eShop for $19.99 and it's worth every penny.

I paid cash for my car but it is also somewhat of a beater.  Next car I get will probably be similar to Tyler and do a decent down payment and then pay off the rest over time.

In other news...UPS just delivered my copy of Madden early!  Nice!

Financing a car makes a lot of sense now with rates so low. As bums stated you can get 0% or you can get a great rebate and still find a really low loan rate at a bank. Paying in full for a new car has always been dumb really. If your buying a really expensive car it pays to lease or if your needs are really specific like milds.

Unless you have terrible credit in which case you should buy a beater until you can get a nice car. But we know most people aren't like simmias. They waste all their money on the moat expensive car and house someone lets them have.

And them blame someone else for their money problems.

I just bought my first new car earlier this year, had a beater for 10 years that I paid cash for.  I financed most of it, but figure once it's paid off I should be able to ride it for at least 20 years.  I've never really cared about having a fancy car, just something reliable to get me from point A to point B.  Now to get my wife in the same line of thinking....

I used to enjoy roller coasters. As I've gotten older the excitement has gone way down and now it feels more like a chore to get through the line than anything. Never jump at haunted houses anymore, either.

10/10 Therms.

Where the fuck have you been? I don't think you were even here to gloat about K's fifth.

And the tarholes' continued descent into shame.

Yeah, I was definitely MIA around that time, but what a fantastic time it was! Sad all those guys left, but it's looking like we've reloaded, so I'm pumped to see this year's squad.

I got hooked onto Destiny, but I'm back now. So we've got a solid 2 months to bask til the season starts!

And as far as the Heels

My wife's entire extended family are Tarhole fans, so it makes family gatherings so much more enjoyable as they wade around in mediocrity.

As far as the car thing.  I personally think leases are rarely a good idea.  Most people like to talk about how they are cheaper than a regular car payment and they keep a new car.  That is all fine and good if you dont go over the mileage limits.  Nobody ever seems to factor that in.  If you are a real estate agent or salesman and need to put on appearances, I guess I could see it still making a bit of sense since it allows you to "drive above your means" in those jobs.  I can also understand Pete's reasoning since his needs would be changing over the short term.

I have no debt.  My wife is thinking she needs a new car because of repairs on her car.  She doesnt want to listen that it is all stuff that is just going to fail (brakes, tires, random electric motor part, etc).  If she had power train issues, I would probably think differently.

Paying cash is a goal.  However, if you have that kind of liquid assets then you have probably already lost more than you would have paid in interest with the rates as low as they are if you have decent credit.  I tend to go with the pay off early method instead of worrying about paying it all at purchase and I am possibly one of the most debt averse people you will ever meet.  Currently no debt at all except what I write a check for at the end of the month to Discover and Visa.

I use my Discover card for almost everything and pay it off monthly as well--hard to argue against free cashback. Looking forward to this holiday season; got a ton of credit last year from the 5% combined with the different Ebates deals and such for various sites.

For the car...after totaling my Mustang 4 days before my wedding I got a 2013 Elantra GT. ~20k on the loan. Higher than I wanted to go, but wanted a reliable, comfortable car that would work well as a family vehicle and still get decent mileage. I tried the cheaper cars, like the Yaris and the Honda Fit and Civic, but they just felt wrong. I fully expect to drive it for 20 years so a bit more money into it is okay.

Oh god Therm and I have the same car. Well almost. Thankfully he got a gt and not the sedan.

But I agree that it's better to buy a relatively cheap car you will keep a long time than buy used. I like knowing what has happened to my car and the new car smell I keep for three to four years.

Plus, cash for clunkers all but killed the used car market. Maybe it has finally recovered, but for a while (at least here) a 2 year old car with less than 30k miles was like $1000 less than a brand new car. No thanks! It is the only reason I bought my CR-V new in 2010.

My sister and mom both have that car and love it. I think they both got 0% as well.

As of when I was looking in 2013 the used car market was still not worth it.

Been going through this the last year and a half. Put in new brakes and rotors last week, been through transmission, a fuel gauge break, tires, random belts, etc. Fixing it is still way cheaper than the cost of a new car. If I were having engine trouble or anything like that, yeah, I'd start seriously considering a new one, but the random repairs are just shit that happens to old cars.

The fun one was the fuel gauge, driving around on a full tank when your gauge says its empty is a little unnerving.

When I was looking earlier this year, it was pretty much the same. I preferred the couple extra bucks for peace of mind knowing the car history from day 1.

Knocked out the all the trophies for Central Park. Chewy just ignore that table the rest of the week.

Then I finally picked up ALL passengers in Taxi to complete the regular goals and then got the top 5 score trophy. Now time to work on those Taxi wizard goals.

Almost forgot about the Splinter Cell sale due to the flash sale, looks like Chaos Theory is the most beloved of the original 3 and the one that got the most love in the HD conversion so I'll go with that one for $3.49.

I only have the 1K on one ball left for Central Park. Topped both leader boards early, but I'm above chewy for a brief moment in time so rawk.
