The college never fucking closes. It's ridiculous.

Being a call center, I can't have people use personal days. People are still going to call (and actually at higher volumes due to the weather) and I need people here to answer those calls. I can't shut down the phones unless the school shuts down. Perhaps because we're so front-facing customer support that my view is skewed. Most people's jobs can be put aside for the day and picked up at a later date, but we can't just answer all these calls coming in tomorrow.
I would be more mad at your college then at local government. Totally ridiculous that they don't close when the weather is bad.

They could also implement some sort of call system that allows you and your people to take calls from home. Or at the very least allow people to leave a message that your team has to return in an hour or 30 mins or whatever. Same BS here. I could easily do 90% of my job from home on bad days. I can't because other departments cant work from home so it isn't fair. My boss is local and will almost always eventually make it in. She can handle the 10% that requires someone to physically be here for a day.

We have a stupid policy for late arrival on bad weather days. If you come in with in two hours of the adjust opening time you get paid for the day. The adjusted opening time is almost never posted or communicated. Most of the time it is just when some number of people show up. I start at 8am (About 10 of us do). Rest start at 9. Hard for me to try and make a certain unknown time. So basically I don't really even try. Might as well take 8 hours PTO and stay home.

Today's my 2nd anniversary. Woke the wife up at 9:30. We went to a Mexican place for brunch--had 2 mimosas and a margarita and a delicious brownie+ice cream (free for my bday), then we went and bought donuts. Now we're going to spend the afternoon watching Star Wars while I try WL2 via Remote Play while drinking wine.
But your birthday isn't until Saturday...

I decided I didn't really need anything for my birthday this year so I told my wife to get us all tickets to go see Star Wars on Saturday. Going to go with my Mom, Dad, Brother, his kid, and the Mrs. and my 2 Sons. Think it's going to be epic just because I can remember standing in line with my Dad and brother waiting to get in to see Return of The Jedi with a line around the movie theater. Ah Nostalgia.

Started up the Lord of the Hunt DLC in Mordor. Forgot how batshit that game can be at times with the enemy swarms. So fun though. Looking forward to playing again.

I wonder if I'll be able to play against you PS4 peeps in Guitar Hero Live or if I'm stuck with lame last gen peeps like me.  Hopefully the former.

How long does it take to get used to the new guitar controller and input method?

Me and jimbo use these, we both really like them

I use these specifally:

Had them for well over a year, very little if any wear on them and still provide great stickiness. They have other lower profile ones too, cant vouch for those but I really enjoy the ones I have. They are specifically marketed for soccer games, but I use them to play everything and they work great for me on any game.

These look pretty good, very low profile and the dots should provide really good grip.

They sell them on amazon too fyi
How have I never heard of these? Do you think they'd work if the rubber on my DS4 is already coming off?

but people in charge of such things seem to think we should all be Minnesota tough cause snow is in our blood and yadda yadda yadda.
Yeah this is us, too. Oh it's Utah, it snows, we know how to drive in it. Which of course we don't, nobody does. That mindset is terrible and needs to be changed.

I think I'll make sure to get some work-from-home stations set up by next winter season. IT projects here move painfully slow but it seems like something that shouldn't be too hard to implement.

The place we went sends an email a week before your bday with a coupon for the free dessert.

The wife and I watched Empire and Attack of the Clones yesterday. I'd never actually watched Clones before and wasn't expecting how absolutely terrible it was. I checked and was happy to see it got some razzie attention. It only won 2 of the 7 categories it was nominated for, though--it was definitely robbed.

As long as chunk around the edges isn't missing it should be fine. I used it with one of my launch DS4 controller that had some tears but the pieces were still attached. A friend was missing a chunk of the rubber and he had to wedge some paper in there to get it to stay on properly. I have had no issues using them over 5 different DS4 contollers.

Yeah work from home will be my new top priority for the new year. Even if we only set up half the team with it, I can have them take the calls and have the rest of the team take vacation days.

We've had plenty of angry students and professors calling today shocked that we're open.

I work for a hospital so obviously that is open no matter the weather but my department (Finance) is pretty generous with opening late/closing for bad storms, etc. You have to use your own vacation time (or make it up over the rest of the week) but everyone is pretty understanding if you choose not to come in. I have an SUV that does pretty well in the snow but at a 30-35 minute commute in good weather it's usually just better to take the day in a bad storm.

I'm fairly comfortable with it now and getting mostly Awesome ratings on normal difficulty. I still have a bit of trouble with the joint notes but not much anymore. I think I've put about 6-7 hours into it so far.

We are a small IT department only 4 of us. 2 of us live local and 2 live 40 mins away. All 4 of us have work issued laptops with LTE access. 3 of us have work issued smart phones. But all of us have our work email on our smart phones.

Our phone system has the ability to email voicemail as attachments (wave files). So if you leave a voicemail for the huntgroup or for anyone of us directly we get an email on our smart phones. I could even have my cell ring when my desk phone rings so people wouldn't even have to leave a voicemail.

Even outside of normal business hours we will respond to many (but not all) requests.

Might be a bit trickier with a larger department to make sure someone is picking up a call but with good people it should be doable. I would love that option vs having to burn a PTO day or several hours.

I looked at something like PagerDuty for a separate issue which would help manage alerts and track when someone responded but didn't really fit what we were trying to do. But with something like that it can even have tiers. You could put half your team in tier 1. If after 15 mins no one assumes responsibility tier 2 is notified if after 10 mins no one assume responsibility you would be notified.

Anyways done ranting about this shit. But it's just asinine.

Tyler, your school reminds me of my college in NH that also notoriously stayed open during really bad weather. One time they did this when I was a commuting student and I came back to my car after class to find I had gotten a ticket for parking. The snow had covered up the parking lines so bad (and of course wasn't plowed) that I apparently parked on one of those yellow striped lines. Took quite a bit of appeals process to end up waiving that.

Don't think I'll stick with Black Flag long enough to get the plat. I already have Rogue and Unity to get to as well, along with Syndicate when it gets cheap enough. I think I'd rather use that time to start a new game.

By joint notes, do you mean simulated chords? I used to play GH/RB on Hard difficulty, and real guitar(shittily)/bass, so I'm thinking those might not be to bad for me. My real struggle with the original games was always the solos.

I mean the chords where you hit both the front and back row. With the new guitar you have two rows of three buttons; the white notes are one row and the black notes are the other. When you hit the same position on both rows you have a note that shows half white/half black.

This is what those notes look like:

For that note you have to hit the two top buttons on the guitar at the same time:

For those I have to either lay my finger down over both notes which is slow or I have to press my finger down where the two notes meet which is a bit uncomfortable. Maybe there's a better way to do it, I've no idea--I don't play guitar.

Use two fingers, one on each fret/button. Index on top, middle on bottom. Might feel uncomfortable at first, but that's how similar guitar chords are often played (other method is one finger down on the whole fret for certain chords), and you'll get used to it after a while.

That makes sense--the approach I've been using of pressing down at the seam works in GHL but obviously wouldn't with a real guitar. I'll give it a try.

Not that I don't give you all an "A" for effort but I find it funny that you guys are trying to play every Assassin's Creed game. It's not as if these stories intertwine all that well or really have a lasting impression as something like The Last Of Us does.

I mean if I had the spare time I might as well, but I've pretty much decided I won't ever get to them all. I played Black Flag and finished it, Syndicate will most likely be my next Assassin's. It wouldn't hurt to let a few go IMO.

Oh and to those that have played every one up until now  :applause: great fuck ing job.

I like them, so I play them. It's really that simple.

"I don't understand how you guys like to do something I don't like to do."

Also Tyler, maybe your school is open because there is some law in the state that says you need to be open a certain amount of days or because your students paid a certain amount they have to have a certain amount of classes?   I know we are talking about a college here and not elementary, but most states have laws for lower level education to have a certain amount of school days.

Saw this trailer before the Peanuts movie yesterday. We also saw the trailer for Alvin and the Chipmunks: Road Chip; but I think I'll spare you that torture.

Like I said more power to you, I just find it funny whenever anyone mentions Assassin's creed it's usually to say I still have Assassin's XYZ and the kitchen sink to play still.
I mean I think they could improve the series by taking a little more time with each game, but am I upset about more games in a series that I love? Hell no. I'll hoard the damn things and play them when I'm good and ready. I was just simply stating that I didn't feel the need to go above and beyond the get the plat since I have other AC games to play.

If I had more free time I would absolutely get all the trophies, but I'd say the same thing for countless other games as well.

Speaking of series' that I love, a Dead Space reboot on new gen made closer to the style of 1 and 2 would be so awesome. #randomthought

But you should know how to drive in it. I mean, Utah is a Winter state. SLC hosted the freaking Olympics for gods sake, it's not like snowfall and bad roads are some random event that only occurs every few years.

I spent nearly 20 years in Anchorage, and aside from trouble during my teenage years only had one snow related accident.

If you car has 4 wheel drive and/or studs you should be able to drive around just fine. It's not the end of the world, you just drive slower, pump your breaks, and don't panic.

At least you don't have the mindset in Portland where they close things if the temp drops below 35 and there's rain in the forecast.

Even on those rare winter days where we do get a few inches of snow it's gone a week later.

Yeah I love playing every Ass Creed game I can (except 3, cause fuck you George Washington!), but I dont know how anyone will ever catch up to the series.  If you havent played the one that came out 3 iterations ago, just come to the realization that you will never go back to the series.

Personally I found Unity to have the more interesting story and characters, but Syndicate had the better gameplay. If Syndicate didn't have the rope launcher it would be easy to recommend a pass.

I just played the first one last year. Since then I've knocked out Bloodlines, 2, Rogue, and Liberation in that order. I figure if I play 3 per year that will give me enough time between games that I won't burn out but will still let me catch up fairly quickly.

yeah assassins creed is great screw you jkam and screw you vig for never actually playing them
Never said it was bad. I just finished up Freedom Cry myself but mainly because I bought the DLC and don't want any backlog on the PS4. That's why I'm also doing the Mordor DLC now (because I bought it). I also mentioned Syndicate will most likely be next for me. (Skipping Unity) but no one heard any of that.

I have been hard on Assassin's in the past, yes but after playing Freedom Cry I realized I'd just forgotten how damn good Black Flag actually was.

Eh, I mean I could go on an AC binge and be caught up in like a month or two, and that's considering my limited play time. I just don't feel the need to do so and spacing them out combats franchise fatigue.
