I think they would have gotten a lot more mileage out of things if not every run revealed a secret. Like you get to the end of the story but you're not sure what went wrong--randomizing that would have kept things going longer. The initial three choices all lead pretty straightforwardly to a secret each and it's not hard to get to the fourth secret either. Once you've gotten all four secrets the game outright tells you what to do next for the final ending.
Did you ever end up using the sword powers (R2) aside from healing? I fired up my first secondary sword, realized it was kind of pointless, and saved all my energy afterwards for healing. The only time I ever switched was to use the other swords for opening doorways.
BTW if you want to get that Old Fox, New Tricks trophy, here's what to do in a single fight:
- Normal Attack
- Counter Attack
- Hook Attack
- Dash Attack
- Grab Attack 1 (shield, throw into hole, throw into an enemy, or throw against wall)
- Grab Attack 2 (shield, throw into hole, throw into an enemy, or throw against wall)
Performing each of the above moves gives you 50 points per type for style--hit 300 points for the trophy. I'm not sure which of the four grab attacks counts and which don't, so just do all four in a fight and it'll trigger the trophy. Since you've gotten the true ending already you'll have the Skyripper Armature flying around frying bad guys, though, so you'd need to perform the above in a fight with a lot of bad guys to prevent the Skyripper from toasting the enemies before you can do all of them. That or start a new game and trigger it from there.
