Yeah that's a pretty awful review, though well written. That rambling about "the problem with trilogies" makes no sense at all though.
It's a ing video game, jesus christ. It wasn't built to solve the worlds problem or unveil some new paradigm shift in a philosophical view of the world. That reviewer must be real fun at parties...
"The games never made the case for why Nathan thought this was a better way to find a fortune than day trading, but the thrill of dangling from a newly disgorged tree root while being fired upon by RPGs was enough to make the series a success."

I thought UC1 kinda lost the plot a bit in the final third of the game in that same line of logic, actually.
Nate was ready to bail, he was pushing hard to leave, and got Elena to agree. Then they went after Sully when they found out he was alive and suddenly they're after the treasure again. There was no thought or discussion around changing their minds about leaving island, just Sully had a clue where the treasure was and so they went after it.
Can't speak for the other games as I've not played them yet, but yeah UC1 didn't do a great job of portraying Nate's motivations. I'm hoping UC2-4 do a better job with that since TLoU did a such a good job with characterization and set my expectations for that.
Thought about entering with Last Guardian and then making a comment that I would surely have a PS4 by that point, but Nier is another game that is probably pretty far out there and with platinum games involved will likely be good.

Actually I just changed mine to Horizon: Zero Dawn. I just remembered that it's both Automata is both Nier and a Platinum Game. It'll probably require 23 playthroughs.
I had forgotten how much I hated the exploding hollows of the Bastille They run at you, dive to the ground and then a high damaging explosion of energy emanates from them which knocks you to the ground, but they don't die. They get back up and can run at you again. That Lost Sinner fight in NG+ would be really hard without a summon as the bastard helpers spread out making it difficult to keep your eye on all 3 of them. I do like that they threw in extra enemies to spice things up in NG+, even if it has caused me to die quite a few times.

LOL because it's an action-adventure game meant to have excitement, precarious situations, and explosions. No one wants to simulate sitting in front of a laptop and looking to see if the PSNOT stock went up a quarter of a point so they can make 10 bucks off of it, except that guy. Gold trophy unlocked: SPLAT!: Jump off the Sears Tower when the stock market crashes and you've lost all your assets

Yeah, those guys were really annoying but easily killed with a single arrow/slash. I actually forgot that Lost Sinner in NG+ added two Red Phantom pyromancers, but I was able to kill them quickly while the two NPCs distracted the boss.
Yeah I'm looking forward to it too. Trophies for it came out forever ago, nice to see the game will finally be coming. And yeah, it's available on mobile as well if you want to try it out (not sure if it's free, but certainly cheaper than the PS4/Vita option will be)
Letter Quest came out on Xbone like a month ago and has already been discounted since then. Those fearful of a slap should beware. That said, I've sunk a few hours into it and it's really fun. Not gonna blow anyone's mind, but it's a solid game.

lol gamers taking video game stories seriously and "why" the characters in them do things like quit their day job for treasure hunting and rope climbing

Havent played a GT game really since the 2nd one I think. Would just get the mitsu 3000gt AWD and hold down the gas and kinda steer, would win any race by a lot.
