Oh, neat. Under 15K on PSNP now.
I shouldn't have any trouble wrapping up Prototype this evening. Finished the story last night, now I'm just grabbing the last two Landmark collectibles, the last eight or so Hint collectibles, and then I need to hunt down another 20 or so of the Web of Intrigue people. Not going to go for the plat--the Hard playthrough would be a pain in the ass, the Platinum medals in the remaining challenges would be a pain in the ass, and the trophy for killing 53,596 infected is just ridiculous. I'm at around 15-20k right now and I've completed almost everything in the game. It's just too much of a grind.
I can definitely see why Prototype isn't viewed as well as Infamous. They came out at the same time and have a similar level of graphics and similar play styles, but Infamous is told much better and has much more developed characters. Prototype has a pretty interesting back story but it doesn't get enough focus and without likable characters to drive it the back story gets a bit lost. Prototype also has 200 Landmark collectibles and 50 Hint collectibles, but unlike Infamous' Blast Shards, the damn things don't show up on a map at all, not even the minimap. Since buildings in Prototype are huge, the game world feels a lot bigger and so finding the things naturally is very difficult. Even with a map that shows where on the island each collectible is you can't always find them since the map is 2d and doesn't zoom in super close, which leaves a ton of vertical space for the collectible to be tucked into a hidden alcove of a skyscraper. The Web of Intrigue people you need to consume to reveal bits and pieces of the Prototype backstory are randomly generated as well, plus there are another 200 or so of them, so that's just an issue of wandering around, waiting for one to spawn, and then consuming the person before an infected or military character kills them.
Despite all the above, the story itself is interesting as I said even though none of the characters are. The gameplay is a lot of fun. I liked the stealth consume aspect where you infiltrate military bases and eat people in order to learn their various weaponry skills. The powerups and devastation moves are varied enough and enjoyable. Hijaking tanks and helicopters is entertaining as well. Travel in the game is pretty decent since you can move so quickly and your dash and glide mechanics are quite fast, plus you can grab a chopper if you want to get all the way to the other side of the island in a hurry. The darkness to the game is nice, too, with the way the sky gradually turns red, the buildings look a bit more organic, and there are infected everywhere as you wander into infected zones.
Fun game and worth the $10 sale price it just had, IMO, but from a completion standpoint it's a bit of a chore. The PS4 port was rock-solid, too; no crashes, framerate issues, or bugs at all that I noticed.
I'll probably get to Prototype 2 before long.
