PSNOT 3.0 - Let's Talk About University of Kentucky, Baby!

Well, this sucks:

I was really hoping to start Zero Time Dilemma tomorrow.

Oh, nice. The gameplay shown at e3 didn't have much variety. Apparently I completely missed this other video, which has them talking about the story and explaining and showing off a lot more varied gameplay:

I played through VLR without knowing anything about 999. I don't think it lessens the experience any. For the few minor questions I had, I just used wikipedia.

Dungeon Travelers 2 is okay, but the dungeons are very generic. The fanservice-anime stuff is pretty annoying, and the only difficulty comes from the generic boss fight at the end of the dungeon.

Nah, everyone knows that

Alfred was the Joker all along

Got an email with that Dragon Fin Soup Steam key this afternoon from Grimm Bros.  It came from Jacob Cook with a subject of Dragon Fin Soup PSN to Steam key.

Speaking of which, someone on reddit linked this Zero Escape: Story So Far recap. It probably is too brief and goes way too fast for someone that hasn't played the games before. but it's a decent refresher for those who played both games already as I had forgotten a few of the things mentioned. Heavy spoilers.

I still have the youtube video you gave me that was a recap of the first game bookmarked. Was saving it until I played the second one, but now that it's rumored to be ported to vita I guess I'm waiting...

And it's out now in Europe. Today is apparently the 25th anniversary of the Gameboy version's release. From comments online the remake is very faithful to the original, which I enjoyed quite a bit. Here's the trailer and some gameplay (from the Japanese version) for those who never played it:

Hopefully it'll hit here today.

You do realize that the link you posted is from over 5 years ago?

haha, just kidding..... of course you don't.
I actually saw it mentioned on a new article on some other site I'd never heard of. It linked the IMDB article as a source. I saw the quote matched so I used the IMDB link instead without noticing the date discrepancy. :wall:

Here's the article I saw it in, which was from yesterday:

Bran?
bran would have to seek out howland reed, if bran saw what we saw and I think he did, he didnt hear the name of the father, he just knows jon is not neds and that lyanna is the mother. My guess is he has meera take him to her father and he gets the answer from him. Either way, only howland reed knows who the father is (which is obviously rhaegar)

IGN didn't like The Technomancer: http://www.ign.com/articles/2016/06/28/the-technomancer-review

4.9/10

So much could have been forgiven if the central, action RPG pillar of combat wasn’t constructed so poorly in The Technomancer. The world is clearly crafted with vision and attention to detail, but the characters who inhabit it come off too often as awkward marionettes who would rather be doing something else besides participating in this story. Its heart is in the right place, and that makes me wish I’d enjoyed it more. But it’s like the pancakes an eager eight-year-old tried to make their dad for Father’s Day: the ingredients are lacking in quality and the skill to assemble them just wasn’t present. All the little reasons The Technomancer is worth experiencing, all the little moments where the vision of a better game shines through, aren’t quite enough to justify choking down its shortcomings.

Derek will still buy it and play the hell out of it. Pancakes will buy it too, but only play 5 minutes.
The gameplay seems to be pretty similar to Bound by Flame's gameplay. IGN gave BbF a 7, but it was a different reviewer. Bound by Flame definitely had some systems built in for dodging and blocking and the character was definitely fragile; if you didn't understand those mechanics then you'd just die over and over again. Based on his review I suspect he just didn't really get the combat system.

Just for further comparison, Metacritic has 16 reviews with an average of 67 right now:

And yeah I'll be playing the hell out of it too.

Never played any Mana games. But how do you improve on the gameplay of Zelda? That's blasphemy!
Yeah, I was thinking combat but said gameplay. Whoops--need to not watch YT reviews of other games when I'm posting, I think.

On that subject, here's a pretty detailed video review of Technomancer:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CYOCOXQ-3g

That's probably a good thing, considering how bad the comparison videos looked. It looked like they were doing the remastering in MS Paint.
Yeah I wondered if that's why they put it off. There were plenty of complaints comparing the remaster unfavorably to the original.

The remasters will probably come out in October now. fuck October.

Star Ocean 5 reviews are emerging:

Dualshockers: http://www.dualshockers.com/2016/06/27/star-ocean-integrity-and-faithlessness-review-charming-but-fiddly/

6.5/10

Ultimately, tri-Ace’s latest labor of love comes with a rather relevant baggage of flaws and questionable design choices, but I can’t honestly say that it’s a bad game. It’s certainly hindered by having to support the PS3, and by a budget that (at least at a glance) appears to be on the low end for a JRPG belonging to a popular franchise, but it doubtlessly includes quite a few positive elements as well.
If you can look past the issues, you’re left with a very solid story with great characters, a mostly enjoyable combat system with deep character progression and interaction (not just mechanically, but also story-wise) and comprehensive crafting/gathering mechanics. The crown jewel of it all is an absolutely fantastic soundtrack that will tug at your heart strings.

The return of Star Ocean could have certainly been better, but if you love the genre (and you’re used to its quirks) and the series, you’ll most probably find plenty to enjoy in Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness.

5/10 (ouch)

In the end, Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness' payoff was not worth the time I put into it. The story feels bloated and empty, with no worthwhile emotional payoff in character development or narrative. Combat and its subsequent upgrade systems are genuinely fun, but the overall experience is held back from being great by issues elsewhere. As a fan of Japanese role-playing games, it's heartbreaking to not be in love with Star Ocean 5, but it holds too tightly onto outdated character tropes and concepts--like the unfair save point system--that make it feel dated and out of touch. If you came to this game seeking the epic sci-fi glory of the series' early years, this is not the Star Ocean you are looking for.
Push Square: http://www.pushsquare.com/reviews/ps4/star_ocean_integrity_and_faithlessness

7/10

Integrity and Faithlessness is a much faster game than previous Star Ocean entries, but it sacrifices narrative and contextual depth for it. There are a few interesting but unsuccessful design choices here which let the game down, but it mostly makes up for its shortcomings with a frenetic battle system, excellent character design, and a standout soundtrack. It's a little bit vague, and it's a little bit shallow, but there's still plenty of fun to be had in tri-Ace's latest, and for newcomers, it's by far the most approachable entry in the series.
Destructoid: https://www.destructoid.com/review-star-ocean-integrity-and-faithlessness-370403.phtml

6.5/10

Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness is a weird game in that it's a by-the-books RPG one minute, and a completely new feeling the next. Any future iterations after this one will be a tough sell, but if this is where its journey ends, it had a good run.

Therm, this is what happens when you try to pull news out of the internet's butthole.

I like G.I.Joe as much as the next 80's kid... hell, I love G.I.Joe... but I don't have such a hard on for it that I'm going to get my news from a site that references it in name.

I'm actually not sure how I got there. Fell into some kind of article click hole. I didn't even realize it was a G.I. Joe site.

fuck you wren! I'm just gonna rent the game and play it for 5 minutes....

Also Ive never been disappointed by triace so still gonna pick it up after work.

Adventures of mana was a dope surprise. This week dropped off way too many games that I like.
