PSNOT 3.0 - Let's Talk About University of Kentucky, Baby!

Finally wrapped up the Far Cry Primal plat.  Ended up taking a little over 28 hours thanks to some unlucky farming for the village huts and a bit of skill grinding at the end.  Not a bad game but definitely my least favorite Far Cry compared to 3 and 4.  Story was a mess and the gameplay itself was lacking.  At least I have a $35.64 trade locked in on Amazon so I will actually end up with a small profit from this one!

Finally got the Dark Souls II plat after 90 hours (yes, Stotch, I took the scenic route again). I didn't think it was as bad as some Souls fans claimed--the DLC was pretty great overall--but it's definitely the weakest in the series.

I'll play a shorter game or two (Stardust Vanguards and maybe Shantae: Risky's Revenge or Mark of Kri) before jumping in to Dark Souls III.

There is a level 13 or something mission. Not sure if you can replay it later or if it will show as completed. That one you need to do with 4 people. Kilik and I have it TPS. I think Sage and Therm do as well. If we need a 4th I can probably dig someone up.

I hate to give props to any FSU player, but that kicker is the real deal.  I would not have used that high of a pick on him, but when you look at the Bucs trades, it was really their 3rd they used.  They had moved back earlier to pick up an extra 4th that they packaged with their 3rd to get him.

I am pretty sure he was ranked in the top 65 players by most of the talking heads.  The Bucs would have won a few more games last year if they had a good kicker.  The kid isn't Janikowski, but I think he will be the next best K in the league.

Only time will tell, but I am not sure you can just automatically call it terrible because they drafted a K that high.  He isnt your average kicker.

 
So lately I've been trying to try out a lot of the games I have in the backlog just to see if anything sinks it's hooks into me.  This morning I tried out Double Dragon Neon and SSX.  DDN was a pretty standard brawler; not bad by any means but nothing special enough that I was going to waste much time with it... ran through the first few missions and deleted.

I didn't play SSX nearly enough to get much of a feel for it but I'm not really caring for the changes.  The presentation isn't bad but it isn't Tricky and that's what I want more of.  It always bothered me that they went in a different and more "serious" direction.  Something else that always bothered me about it was the exclusion of several characters from Tricky, namely Eddie (afro dude), my fave.  Then after playing for a little bit I saw why... I was given the option to buy Eddie on the store in a character pack for $8.

Really pissed me off... I get selling character packs but excluding one of the more popular and iconic characters to sell him as DLC is complete bullshit.  Kiss my dick EA.

EDIT:  Looks like he's now free, but initially when the game was released he was available by preorder only and eventually sold on the store.  Free now but still shitty practice and they can still kiss my dick.

Gator I agree he is the real deal and the bucs lost games due to their kicker last year. But they could have drafted the kid later I would think. We will see. We just need so much on d. If their top two picks pan out it won't matter. But if either sucks we could have used another db or rusher much more urgently.

I can only assume they think they can get another good rusher in the 4th

Not sure why but I really liked double dragon neon. I even grinded one of my most rare trophies from that game. I thought it was decent enough.

Most of the talking heads are saying this draft is very deep for defense, so that's probably the thinking there. And maybe why Ted hasn't grabbed an ILB yet.
 
I forget who else (Vig?) ordered it here but my PS3 copy of MGS V came in and was a day one edition.  I have no interest in the DLC so if you want it just shoot me a PM.

 
Did anyone else grab Stardust Vanguards from the flash sale? It took far less time to plat than I expected (1 hour, 43 minutes), but the soundtrack was still awesome and the gameplay pretty neat. I wish it had online co-op/multiplayer, though.

Gator and Therm I picked up that Japanese copy of Attack of Titan for the Vita. I installed it on my Vita and no issues. The guy took $15 and was on his way. Glad I checked Craigslist for Vita games. Even had some DLC codes in the case.

I seriously don't understand why I keep playing it. It's not like I'm having an actively bad time, but it's like watching happy days reruns - you know you could be doing something better but for whatever reason you keep watching hoping the Fonz does something cool.

I actually really enjoy it. I've been trying to get the 100 kills with each ship trophies so it keeps it fresh not flying the same thing all the time. The only bad thing is when I'm playing and I have no idea what the hell the other 9 people on my team are doing. They're not upgrading bases, taking new bases, killing enemies, or anything else useful.

Yeah flying the other ships does keep it interesting and it also helps show the depth the game has (which isn't vast, but it's something). but ultimately there's very little variety to the actual gameplay. I'd still like to do a capital ship run since that seems pretty different, but I'm almost at level 25 with no drops and still a million color slots to fill in as potential rewards.
 
Going back to Just Cause 2 after playing newer open world games, it really showed its age fast. I can't believe how badly it has aged, and it's really not even that old.

I think I got one when I hit level 25. I don't know if it always throws you a bone with that one or what, but yeah, I've also got colors out my wazoo. If we all want to get together to try mine out, just let me know when.

Started Riptide GP2. It's surprisingly fun. Certainly won't win any awards for graphics but the port is very solid; no loading screens at all and not a single performance issue I've noticed. The difficulty ramps quickly and the gating is a bit annoying, but I think that's more a consequence of deliberately not upgrading my current vehicle or buying the intermittent new vehicles and instead saving up for the Manta instead.

Much of the short story stuff was pretty pointless filler, like the 8 shrine stories of the main character visiting a new years shrine with 8 different characters, nothing happened of consequence. One of the other short stories was kinda amusing as it explained the absence of one of the side characters during the 2 part fairy tale. The 6 "radio" programs were weird and very meta. It is the characters from the game (fully aware that their existence is a game) answering viewer mail in the trappings of a high school radio program airing over the school's PA system. One of the things they confirmed in the radio program is Holiday Star is set in an alternate universe in which the main The Promise tale didn't happen in HB1.

So my opinion from the other day is mostly unchanged. If you enjoyed the quirkier stories and the characters of HB1, you will likely find some enjoyment in Holiday Star. If your highlight was the longer Promise Tale in HB1, nothing in Holiday Star reaches that level of quality. Enjoyable, but not essential.

So if you enjoy good VG stories, definitely purchase Hatoful Boyfriend 1 and maybe check out Holiday Star if you really like the first game.

My roommate and I watched Pan's Labyrinth a week or so ago and he loved it. We were talking about movies with
ambiguous endings
and I mentioned Take Shelter. Both are great movies. I love Jessica Chastain and Michael Shannon is a solid actor.

Both are really good movies. I'd like to see PL again. It's been a long time since I saw it.

I think the oxygen mechanic is one of the reasons why I stopped playing. Granted I only played a few times but it was annoying enough to be a huge deterrent. I also played the fuck out of BL2 so maybe I was/am Borderlands out? I think I should give it another shot. I've been in a huge gaming funk lately and it's bumming me out.

Anyone up for Dark Star, The Division or something right now? Munky? Bueller?

Maybe I can stream. I've got the full Hitman experience downloaded including the new episode. Haven't touched it at all.
