PSP E3 lineup weak sauce?

I'm kind of excited about Ac!d 2, even though I don't have PSP, I haven't played Ac!d, and I hear it's not so great.
Anyone else let down by the game announcements?
Yes. The only upcoming games that even mildly interest me are X-Men Legends 2 and the Sims 2, and those were announced before E3. Still hoping for a PSP Ratchet game.

There are a bunch of promising games, some originals like Coded Arms and some sequel/spinoff games like Daxter.

Unfortunately, the PSP game announcements, and GBA and DS game announcements, are drowned out by the PS3 and Xbox 360.

The PSP had a bad showing, but I think it's announced link up with the PS3 might help secure it's future a little more.
I didnt see shit games for PSP at E3...

seriously where they at?
Sony said the goal of this particular E3 was to promote the PS3. Everything else by Sony took a backseat to that.

Seems like a lot of the portable stuff got drowned by the console announcments, maybe we'll get to see more stuff crop up between now and Xmas that didn't get much noise but apparently the stuf Gamespot mentioned that I thought was notable:

Burnout (woot!)
GTA (of course)
FF7 Crisis Core (which is apparently about Zak)
Tomb raider (yeah I know but hey someone must still like it)
Metal Gear AC!D 2 (I just beat the first one last week I'll be happy to play the second if they spruce it up a bit with new action effects)
The 50Cent game (say what you will about Fiddy, the trailer for it looked pretty cool atleast)

I'm not sure yet what to think of the Viewtiful Joe game but they seem to suggest it's not just a vs fighting game so maybe it will play like the regular game in which case "yay!" I and I'd get it... but then again it's also on the 'cube... crap! which to buy!?

I'm sure some people are buzzed for Socom, Sucks that they released the info before E3 though so it kinda looses its punch but atleast it exists.
Don't forget pursuit force, that game looks like alot of fun :

http://psp.ign.com/articles/615/615683p1.html
WOW I didnt even see this!

overall I thought THERE would BE more selection but I am lookin forward to
GTA
SOCOM
Burnout
Tomb raider
Metal Gear AC!D 2
X-men legends
Coded arms

FF7 & the sims2 these and MGS:acid arent games I would normally buy but I have more patience with this type of games on my PSP for some reason

Don't forget about the Alpha 3 port, with supposedly some new mode added.

Ac!d 2 is good news for me considering I just picked up part one, and from the little I played of it it look pretty tight, just hope I enjoy it enough that I can throw down money for the sequel.

Pursuit Force looks fucking good.

Socom is not going to wow me, I was never into the Socoms for the PS2 and I don't think It's going to work well on the PSP without dual analog...

Burnout Legends is going to be the game I get for my PSP this fall, I had so much fun the console versions.

GTA is not something I was really into, but I'd probably bite at the PSP version when it drops in a few years.

What I was really hoping for was RPGs. The Playstation is chalk full of em, yet I only see two PSP rpgs on the horizon.

I was so disappointed that I just unloaded all of my PSP games, except for Lumines and MGA. I don't love MGA, but it's decent enough to continue playing with.

I have been to E3 both days so far and seen some cool PSP stuff. Coded Arms is at the Konami and Sony booths. The game looks great and play pretty nicely. Takes a little while to get comfortable with default controls, but still awesome. Could not tell if there were other ways to set it up. Madden 06 was there, and looked ok. Infected didnt look as good as Dead to Rights or Coded Arms but the idea of infecting others is cool. Gameplay requires to shot until a red circle comes up than you press another button to do combos. Dead to Rights had some camera issues but overall looked good, and the takedowns were fun. Didnt try Death JR or Socom. Neopets looked nice.

i was disappointed that in all the g4 live e3 coverage that less than 1% was devoted to the psp - especially considering it is the latest, greatest thingamajigee

all that was interesting to me was Alpha 3, Persuit Force, and Ac!d 2... other then that... meh... I was hoping for some 3d fighting game to be shown, but nobody wants to port or make anything 3d for it (other than the little known King of Fighters Maximum Impact).

I'm looking forward to Burn Out & Grand Theft Auto, and that's about it. I hope Sony doesn't forget about us PSP owners trying to beat the Xbox 360 with PS3.

i doubt sony will forget us psp owners... it's just this month PSP had to take a back seat to the PS3. it may not make alot of people happy, like me, but expect some news in the next month of some good things to come (i hope)

I hope so too. At this point I would like to see ports of PS2 titles... anything would be welcome. I wonder how hard it would be to rerelease the GH games at a $20 price point... the only thing they would have to change (other than getting it up and running on the PSP hardware) would be the 16:9 aspect ratio...

Are you kidding me? Sony didn't give up on the PSP, there will be plenty of more titles coming out from now and next year, Sony was just busy showing off PS3 stuff because they didn't want everyone to drool over the 360 and Revolution at E3. They also released ALOT of PSP titles at launch, something the DS didn't do, so most of their software is out of the gate already. Look at the DS lineup for this holiday season... looks better doesn't it? Only because most DS titles came in later, and the DS had a very weak launch lineup.

Also, once GTA PSP comes out that will be the big test for PSP sales, since it will be the biggest "killer ap" for the handheld if the PS2 sales of GTA reflect anything.

The question though will be just how enjoyable GTA wll be on the PSP. What will they have to take out or change to fit the format. Things like that could seriously effect it's acceptance.

I hope they show more info on it soon.

The good thing out GTA is that graphics have never really been a factor, starting from GTA 1. They mostly have to translate the large worlds, and on screen chaos which I suppose will still be hard, but easier to translate than on the SP or DS.

This is what is making me consider getting rid of my PSP at this point. It just seems most of the games are watered down versions of their console big brothers. The system is amazing and set out what it was meant to be...somewhere between the PS1 and the PS2. With it matching those systems so closely though it feels like a been there done that so far. I'm sure some better games and some unique games will come down the pipe but to buy games for 3 portables (SP, DS, PSP) at this point seems nuts. With the PSP I don't feel like I'd be missing anything without it because I can get the same experiences on the PS2.

I wouldn't get rid of it - you are just going to end up rebuying it in the future when the games start coming out. I bought the PSP for games on the go - not necessarily innovation. If Sony started porting games to the PSP (and charging a little less, say $20) then I'd be vry happy. I'd definitely shell out $20 for some God of War on the go... It would be even better if there was a way to play the console version, save and then pick up in the same spot on the PSP... I'd get so many more games completed if that were the case. Sony could even add $10 or so to the retail price and include the PSP and PS2 game in the same case... the possibilities are endless...

Sony charging only $20 for a PSP is very doubtful, at least until like a year or 2 from now. I'll be happy with virtua tennis and burnout legends

I don't think I've ever really bought a console for innovation either but in the past the technology of the gameboy was always quite a bit behind the technology of the current home console. So it offered a different experience. It's not that I hate the PSP by any means but it seems a little silly to play Hot Shots Open Tee and then go home and play Hot Shots 3. If there was a way to play the console version at home and on the PSP I'd be all for it but I don't see that happening.

I also know there will be some great games down the pipe but I'm wondering this: X-Men Legends 2 is a game that I want to get. Now I buy the PS2 version and the PSP version. Is it going to be just about the same game? Will it be completely different? Or will it be the same game but a little less added in to it? It seems like such a thin line right now that I'm sort of losing my enthusiasm for the system. Decisions Decisions.

Having just returned from E3 and seeing the PSP games, I was also very disappointed. Many of the games were just not that good. Death Jr was basically hack and slash and got boring quick. Pursuit Forec was chase down a car, jump on hood, shoot driver and passengers, repeat. Socom seemed a bit on the sluggish side. Burnout was decent, but nowhere on the same level as its console counterparts. The Con was a lame fighting game. Virtua Tennis was probably the best one there, and even that wasn't any better than the DC version, so why pay $40 for the PSP one? I was really hoping to go into the Sony booth and come out with plenty of reasons to pick up a PSP. Unfortunately after seeing what's on the horizon I still don't have a compelling reason.

im happy i went with the ds... as much as i want that damn sexy psp i think jkam is right when he says that having 3 portables is a bit over the top... and like you kids, i was very dissapointed in the psps e3 showing... the only game im looking forward to is crisis core, and after ff-x2 im wary about square sequels/prequels

Maybe I'm missing the point but to me the reason to own a PSP is to be able to play video games anywhere. If the console and handheld versions of a game were identical I wouldn't care... if I liked it enough, I'd get both. It may seem like they are gouging you by making you pay for the same game twice but I can list about 20 games I own that I'd gladly shell out $20 more each just to be able to play them on my PSP... to me it's worth it.

Might want to polish that monocle, it's getting a little foggy.

I dunno where you keep getting this $20 figure, but that's not going to happen any time soon. Maybe a GH lineup some time much later, but that would still mean that it would have to sell a lot first. At this point it looks like if you want God of War or GTA on the go, you're going to have to shell out another $50 for it.

Yeah, I was disappointed.. I had been thinking about getting a PSP.. but it literally seemed like Sony had forgotten all about the PSP at E3..

Though looking at EB's 'upcoming list' and seeing Battlefield 2, Daxter, Socom: US Navy Seals, Burnout, etc... I may end up picking one up later on this year

You say matter of factly that PS2 ports will be available and will all cost $50 even though the vast majority of PSP games only cost $40?

Where did you get THAT figure?

well he was saying GoW and GTA would be $50 on the PSP, not every single game.

GTA is already $50, if they do make GoW for PSP it would more than likely be $50 since that was the price for the PS2 version.

I'm pulling the $20 number out of my ass. I'm saying that if Sony could easily port PS2 games to the PSP (with minimal effort) then releasing both for $70 as a package would be a smart way to sell tons of games (with the option to buy each individually for $40 or $50 or whatever)...

I was not happy with the showing, but I am looking forward to Burnout, Socom, and GTA...I am confident sony will take care of us

I found SOCOM pretty hard to play on the PSP, I kept looking for another analog stick. Plus, I'm sure you can imagine how hard it will be to target distant enemies on the small screen.

Virtua Tennis is awesome on the PSP, just like the Dreamcast and PS2 versions. I think it was the best PSP game at E3.

I see your point, but to be fair, that can be said about most of the new games coming out for all systems.

It seemed like most games at E3 were either sequels or FPS.

Did anyone else see Infection? It was an action zombie game where your blood is your weapon against a city of people turning into zombies. Its an online game in which you play with people from across the Globe in where you might be zombies in their game and vice versa. Seems very intresting.

Thats a unique game.

Did they happen to mention anything about a new battery?

The main reason the PSP really disappoints me is that even if I am not playing the thing the battery drains. I would really like a longer battery life!

I just got Hots Shots and played it twice for about a hour each time on a full charge. I then did not play the PSP for a few days, I went to play it over the weekend and the battery was drained! When I stoped playing it during the week it said there were about 2-1/2 hours left of battery I got ready to play and bam 23 minutes. I did not feel like charging it again so I played GBA instead.

They need to do something about the battery!

I want Death Jr., GTA, Virtua Tennis, Socom and Coded Arms!

I hoping the DTR and Infected play well.
I am much more excited for the DS this year than PSP.

Yeah good point. It was funny how they were talking up the PS3 being so revolutionary and then saying check out MGS4, Tekken 6, and Devil May Cry 4.

I think you need to power your system off, not just put it to sleep.

Yeah, I played it. Concept is good..execution is not (at least not yet).

Cheapy,

I totally agree with you. I played Socom as well and found the controls to be a bit lacking. Virtua Tennis was definitely the best title there. Wi Fi will make that game very cool. Still, not sure if its a game I would pay $40 for.

Infection has a very cool idea, but the gameplay isn't that fun. If they can refine it, it would be very cool.

I was disappointed we didn't see some of the bigger PSP games like GTA or GT. Oh well. Maybe next year Sony will spend some time during the conference to talk about their current systems.
