I've got both a PS3 and XBox 360. I'm trying to decide which version of Rage to get. I read a recent blog (can't remember which one) that said that the XBox version seemed to have better performance as compared to the PS3 version. Any thoughts?

if i'm gonna play online, i always get 360. i prefer the controller for shooters, anyways. unless their is additional content for ps3, i'm gonna stick with 360

I remember hearing Carmack say on multiple occasions that they had trouble with the PS3 so I imagine the 360 version will be the better of the two

I heard the same thing. Although it seems like to get the best performance, the 360 requires the 22GB install! :hot: Luckily, I have enough free space on my HD.

Thats mostly because carmack is biased towards ati and ati makes the 360 video card. Plus he has always been a bit of a fanboy of whatever it is he likes at the time. Back when he did a story in maximum pc about video cards he loved nvidia and hated ati and he then said ps3 was the best system (ps3 also having a nvidia gpu). But now he flipped again.

I refuse to believe that any company as talented as them are having a hard time making the game work on it. If it were actually true the 360 performed better for games then it would universally be be that way. But as we all have seen some perform better on ps3, some on 360, some are equal to eachother. Even when there are performance differences they are 98% of the time so small no one could really tell the difference much.

If they did have problems I can almost guarntee that the root of the problem is they developed the console port around the 360 and then ported it to the 360 which is as stupid of an idea as you can have. They are performance wise not that much difference with ps3 being a little more powerful but the ps3 is more complex and propritary so they are trying to port a game built for a simpler console and then put it on a more complex one which is the complete opposite of what they should be doing.

360 simply for the controller barring some exclusive content. I don't even know when I'll get it. Almost certainly not at launch, too much stuff coming out and I'll likely still be messing with Gears of War 3.

It's a trick question, get it for the PC for better graphics and controls.

I would get it for the PC but I don't have plans to upgrade my PC in the near future. So I have to opt for the console version.

Or save the money you are planning on spending on RAGE and finish whatever backlog that you have. Then in 6 months upgrade your PC and play RAGE in the best possible way.

Once you emerge from that wreckage of RAGE on the PC 6 months from now you will start to see many other PC games at half maybe 3rd of the price. If there is any online game that you end up playing, you'll be surprised that your teammates are competent players.

Then you will answer the question you long sought for, "why PC?" But first you must save your money for that PC.

Can't the game be played off the disc? Or does it just have the 22GB install if you choose to install it? If it MUST have the install to play AT ALL, 50-75% of 360 owners out there won't be able to play it as the vast majority of 360 users are still with the 20GB HDD.

I think installing on the HD is optional but recommended for optimum performance. Here's an article on geek.com:

"360 owners are in for a bit of a shock when they come to install the game, though. John Carmack has confirmed that if you choose to install, then expect to see 22GB of space disappear on your hard drive. Not only is that significantly larger than all other games as far as we know, it’s going to take a while to transfer across.
It’s probably not worth considering bypassing the installation as Carmack stated in his QuakeCon keynote that for the 360, installation is “the way to go.” So in the long run, a painfully long installation is worth the wait to help cut down on much longer load times that will end up costing you even more waiting time."
