RE Operation Raccoon City Special Edition selling ridiculously high on eBay

UnlockPotential

CAGiversary!
How is it that Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City Special Edition is still available for pre-order everywhere yet on eBay its selling for over $140? It doesn't come out until the 20th and nobody is out of stock yet. Is the Steel Book inside that valuable??

Are those auctions with actual bids that high? Or is it what sellers are listing them for? That would change the story. Those sellers could just be saying its sold out at places like amazon which is true. But its still available in a lot of places.

They're actually selling. PS3 versions have hit as high as $200.

We'll see how demand is whenever the game comes out. I'm always hesitant to sell a preorder, you never know if you'll actually get the game or not. I should have the 360 version on the way. It appears that this may actually be limited.

From what I've heard is their was actually a problem with the SE. I think it's the patch inside that has the problems- some sort of glue issues. So actually 1/4 of what was supposed to be made are actually going to. At least, this is what I've seen mentioned a few times.

Don't worry... this is the same company that originally made the "rare" MvC3 Special Edition that also fetched super high resale prices.. for about a week... until it was found that wasn't actually "rare" and eventually hit super lower clearance prices.

Some of these resellers who are planning on reselling directly from the Capcom store are in for a rude surprise and are going to get a boat load of negative feedback when the are unable to turn around and reship the items for at least a week plus... no way digital river gets them the game anywhere near release day.

Yeah, I'm not holding my breath on this... even if it does end up being rare, they'll probably announce a gold edition or turbo edition in a month or two with everything in the SE plus additional in game content making the SE worthless.

I have noticed though that the RE series has a "HUGE" following globablly. Most anything that is RE and also declared "Rare" or "Limited" sells extremely well that is why when I find something cool from the Capcom store I will tend to buy extras to unload on eBay to help cushion the cost of my particular item but I would NEVER ever ever in a million years rely on Capcom (Digital River) to fulfill any preorders I was trying to flip on eBay.

You most likely would get your stuff but when and in what condition.... that would be the real question

The SE is still available for preorder at amazon.ca (for $64.99) but amazon.com, ebgames.ca and gamestop.com are all sold out. I just ordered one so thanks for the heads up!

I still love Capcom but am boycotting SFxT as in I will not be buying it. The 360 version is buggy (sound issues, no couch coop) and neutered (no BBA mega man, pac man), and there wil be a complete version on the vita for $20 less?!?! Screw that nonsense.

Where did you hear this?

At the time I made this thread only Amazon was OOS. GameStop, Walmart & Toys R Us are sold out too now. Target, Buy.com & BestBuy still have the SE in stock. Games comes out next Tuesday

edit: Toys R Us still has the 360 version

Can someone explain to me WTF this IDIOT is doing?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Resident-Ev...4002?pt=Video_Games_Games&hash=item5ae5961192

He's either an idiot that:

A) Doesn't know the difference between the Best Buy Limited Edition and the actually Special Edition

B) Got in on the Amazon deal where the Special Edition was mismarked at $59.99 and thinks reselling on eBay for $9 profit before fees is going to net him sweet profit

C) Buying them from Capcom so he can sell them for a small loss and keep the signs

His description makes it sound like he knows what is in the special edition so I"m doubting scenario A and if he is ordering from Capcom no way he'll be able to ship them out to buyers on release day so that rules out C)

I'm going to guess he is just a retard that thinks selling games at $9 more then he paid for thim is a good move when these were previously fetching $100+

eBay noobs

Might be a small mom and pops operation.

We have a small store like that nearby that sells stuff on ebay all the time, usually at high markups.

Though this isn't a high enough markup compared to others.

It's not even a markup though (unless they changed the price) it was at $68.xx when retail is $69.99

even if the purchase it through Amazon on the price mistake when Amazon had it for $59.99 they are going to make almost no profit after eBay and PayPal fees.

Furthermore many listings were selling for around $120 just a few days ago.

But if it's a mom and pops store they might have bought them direct from their distributors for less than MSRP. Assuming they are a store though. So they would still make money.

I looked at their other items for sale and I don't think it is a "Ma and Pa" store. I just think they haven't been around on eBay long enough to know what they are doing. They have subscribe to an eBay store and have less then 50 items listed.

Perhaps (s)he is planning to get profit from selling whatever bonus pre-order stuff arrives with it. Regardless it would only be petty profits. Maybe get a family dollar menu dinner from McDonald's..

To each their own.. but a quick search would have shown that these were selling for $100+

So why $68? No way to justify it then stupid. There are much easier ways to get your feedback up then selling a game that collectors will want that will be super anal about the condition it arrives in.

What was the seller's reason when you asked him?

Unless it's a scam, who gives a fuck for their justification. Buy the fucking things and resell them for all that it matters.

Well all 15 of his PS3 $68 Special Editions sold so now the cheapest is $99.95 aside from his 360 version which he has up for $70.

So....GameStop continues to amaze me.

Went there a month ago to pre-order this.....said I couldn't they were sold out or something.

Last week went there to grab Killzone 2 cheap. Guy asked me if I wanted to pre-order anything....said no....he continued to keep asking in what I considered a rude manner.

Said I want to pre-order games here, but you won't let me pre-order the games that I want...he asks about what happened...then suggests I pre-order the regular copy. Said that isn't what I want. Tries to argue I do it......

Finally, he says if I pre-order the regular copy he'll make sure I get the SE. Knew I wouldn't get it, but said yes and left.....

Can't wait to blow up in that store when I go Tues and he forgets who I am and says he doesn't know what I'm talking about.
^^^
Or he might give you someone else's preorder.
That would be perfectly fine w me !

Sucks for that person though.

Typically, most CE copies are taken out of the system 2-3 months before the game comes out. Same thing happened with ME3, I had people coming in the week before release day asking to pre-order a CE copy.

There are times where you can pre-order a regular copy and hope we get extra CE copies and you can be switched over if someone cancels theirs. But it's just how CE work because they are hard to get close to release date.

Usually what I do is pre-order the CE copy and always downgrade later if I decide the CE isn't worth it.

Needed to pick up another SE for a friend and best buy B&M were no longer taking preorders for it either. I had to order it from the Capcom Store and pay tax and shipping which sucks. But.....I GET A BADASS METAL SIGN!

Well I don't usually pre-order games a month+ earlier......unless it is a big one.....def not Raccoon City....its not a typical RE game, probably won't even be that good.

But I was perfectly happy going to the numerous other stores that would let me pre-order it less than a month left to go. So since this guy harassed me to pre-order at his store he better pull through with the CE.

I hate gamestop as much as the rest but what store let you preorder a special edition within the last month?

I know it wasn't amazon or gamestop and most best buys haven't been taking preorders as it appears this will have a limited "initial" run (we all know Capcom is in it for the $$$)

Actually Gamestop would let you do it online......there was another site online I forget which one though (Besides Campcom).

But I wanted to be able to do it at a b&m.

Also, I've preordered a lot of "LE's" and "CE's" a month out at Gamestop with no problem.....some of these games maybe the supply was more then this game, idk...but they let me do it....

Good find. I think Capcom ended up making more of these. A day before I ordered the SE from the Capcom store, it was showing them as Backordered, a day later they were in stock again, and I got my shipping confirmation yesterday for it. So maybe more were released?

That's the thing that baffles me... I honestly don't think the Capcom store ever really stopped taking orders for these. They might have gone backordered once or twice, but they seemed to generally be available. Everywhere else stopped taking pre-orders, but Capcom sort of just kept chugging along. Maybe they did print more... either way, I see this being more available than people seem to think.

I got my shipping confirmation from them on Tuesday, so I should actually have my SE and metal sign later today. I'm hoping it was worth it.

You don't order from Capcom (Digital River) often do you?

They print labels days in advance before actually sending the product out. I have gotten shipping confirmation e-mails as early as 10 days before an item released and the earliest I have ever gotten an item was the day after release.

That and not a lot of people order from that website. I have seen items with actual limited print runs of 200 and 500 stay in stock for a week or two before selling out.

UPS tracking says it's on the truck for delivery today. So, unless Digital River sent a 1.8 pound shipping label on a journey through Minnesota, Illinois, Ohio, and now Pennsylvania, I'd say it's actually showing up today.

Trust me, I originally thought the exact thing you said, but they've honestly shipped something. Now I just hope it's the right thing. Haha, so maybe that's the correct sentence... something is showing up today. Fingers crossed it's actually what I ordered.

Wow that's awesome. You might have lucked out with the carrier being UPS. Typically they mail items by streamlite and it takes FOREVER. I preordered both RE 3DS games from the Capcom store and despite getting a shipping confirmation e-mail more then a week prior to release day the games didn't reach my door until Wednesday of release week.

Please post back with how they packaged the items. I ordered two copies of the MvC3 SE (PS3) when they were on sale for $29.99 from the Capcom store and they came with the FREE guide. Anyways they packed the games (Steelbooks) underneath the guides so both of my games were nearly flat by the time the reached me.

It was also one of the worse return experiences ever; I had to wait nearly two months before they would initiate the return but for whatever reason when they did finally agree to accept it they game me the MSRP value of $69.99 for each item instead of what I paid ($29.99)

I have a strong feeling these will be available even after release. I think with the exception of SSIV CE for PS3 Capcom's SE/CE have been pretty much abundant. I remember the High Stakes edition of Dead Rising being advertised as "super limited" (guess since it was only available through Capcom) to only see it go on sale at the Capcom store weeks later.

I say don't go crazy trying to get this SE until the reviews are out because I'm sure they won't be too great either way.

The game did indeed show up today. It's a nice SE, packaging-wise, with a real steelbook and some decently nifty patches. The metal sign from the Capcom Store is predictably thin, with some punched out bullet holes and raised 'Raccoon City' lettering.

While my initial impressions of the game aren't great (see the thread in the 360 forum for more details), the SE and sign are pretty nice. So, there's that.

How was Digital River's packaging? I remember last year a lot of people were upset with the terrible packaging they did with the MvC3 Special Editions (oversized boxes, no padding, etc.). What I am most concerned about is the metal sign crushing or damaging the special edition if they are both shipped in the same box.

Well, the metal sign is 10"x18" and the shipping box was just wide enough to accommodate it, so it was a decently sized box. It was probably 3-4" deep, and the game was just sort of thrown in the box on top of the sign with some cheap packing paper.

My SE got here in perfect shape, but I'd say that may not be the case for all of them. Unless you get someone who put a lot of the packing material in, the case will be sliding around in the box. Now, the slipcover is unprotected, but the metal sign is actually wrapped in plastic, which I think helped minimize some issues.

Looking at it a bit more, I'll say this... while I'm not thrilled about paying full price for the game, ordering it for the sign was definitely the way to go. It's a very thin metal, but it's actually a lot nicer than I anticipated. If you're an RE fan, it's a pretty cool collectible.

I just cancelled my preorder. Should have known from the videos and lack of a demo. Trying not to be such a capcom fanboy.

is there some reason why ebay prices dropped back to around msrp? I was thinking of getting this and unload the dlc to cover costs then read how the SE was selling for mid/high $100s.

Yeah an idiot or two started selling copies at less then MSRP and the sheep followed by lowering their prices
Yeah an idiot or two started selling copies at less then MSRP and the sheep followed by lowering their prices
lol. I don't really understand the point of undercutting on ebay (unless there are buyers that buy for certain sellers all the time).

there should be price collusion! there were times when I had to hold off on selling dlc because the market became saturated and idiots were selling for under $10 when it was going for $30s. sometimes patience paid off when it became worth more or as high as it was months later.
Yeah an idiot or two started selling copies at less then MSRP and the sheep followed by lowering their prices
That's pretty strange. eBay prices are rarely, if ever, lower than MSRP for most games (due to FVFs). I wonder if the seller meant to list the regular game instead.:whistle2:k
