Looking for some new, fun, online multiplayer games to play on the PC. Requirements should be somewhat low (in same range as games listed below). If you have some that have higher requirements than the ones I listed, feel free to list them anyway, as they might work.

Anyway, needs to be at least 3 players. Here is what we enjoy playing:
Worms World Party
Starcraft
Age of Empires 2
Red Alert 2
Tetrinet
Diablo 2

So something along those lines.
EDIT:

WOW, thank you all for the responses. I didn't expect so many (but don't stop if you have anymore  )

I have looked at most of these games on gamerankings. All of them seem perfect for me. I will definitely get these eventually. One that stuck out in my mind was neverwindnights though. Its seems like it has a lot of longevity. Any other impressions on this game? I am almost certain I will be getting this one.

"Soldat" is pretty fun, you can download it (Google search for it).. it's kinda like a 2D sidescrolling cross between Counter-Strike and Team Fortress.

just downloaded it. didn't really try it out too long but it seems perfect for what I am looking for. Thanks Scorch.
shoot you already have the best ones listed... but you cant go wrong with counter-strike 1.6
that's what I was afraid of. Those games are great and I have been playing them for years but I was hoping there were some other games I could try out.

Counter-Strike is a fun game. We prefer to play just among us (since we are all about same skill level) so it would only be about 3-4 of us per game.

Total Annihilation, Icewind Dale series, Baldur's Gate series, Homeworld, Ground Control, and Commandos series (if you like coop strategy) are all good multiplayer games I played back in the late 90s w/ my friends.

The free online game of wolfenstein:enemy territory is pretty fun too. I don't think the requirements are too high for that.

Jeff

I would also recommend Enemy Terrirtory, but based on your games, I don' think your computers could handle that.

I suggest Unreal Tournament. Nothing can beat the original, and with all the modes, it should be fun.

I'd recommend the original Diablo since it's far better than its sequel IMO. It's more slower-paced, but it has this eerie, claustrophobic feel to it. And I loved the shrines; when you touch them, you get an eerie message that you'd have to figure out the effects with.

Turok 2 Seeds of Evil, Serious Sam first encounter and second encounter, Need for sped 3, And Redline.

Neverwinter nights? If you're in the mood for some RPGing with friends. How low specs are we talking? Like "wow we can't even call this a PC anymore" Or "Oh, this is just a low-end model from 2 years ago"?
Scorched Earth

best shareware ever.

Oooo... that last sentance is typed with one hand.
But H is typed with the right hand. I think Stewardess is the longest (real english) word you can type with one hand.

Well I typed it with one hand... ofcourse, I typed that whole post with one hand because my nose was bleeding.

Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force is a great multiplayer game. You don't even have to like Star Trek to get into because its more about action than anything else.

Capture the Flag mod for Quake 2 - loved that multi-player action - if you could manage 4 peps.

I would also second Warcraft 2 (the breakout RTS game) and Baldurs Gate 2 Shadow of Anm - works well with 3-4 peps so you can still have some NPCs in the group. (The NPCs add a lot of character.)

OT, but i'm in the same boat. I have a 4 year old laptop. How do i check to see what kind of videocard i have (i imagine it's waaaaay shittty).

Right click my computer, hit properties, go to the device manager and look under video adapter or something along those lines. Should tell you there. Pray it doesn't say "Generic Video Driver" or something along those lines ;)

There is also apparently soem new car games tahts really fun to where you need to make peopel run into your lines or something.
Is that a bit like a MMO version of Armada for DC?
I don't remember Armada too well, even though I own it... Subspace is 2d, top down. Think Asteroids. But its an MMO (and there are no Asteroids in the game), and there are all kinds of things you can do, each server is different. Theres a team CTF style game that you can play in these defensable structures, and theres just killing other people, in teams or not. Its a really, really fun game.

Armada is basically if Asteroids were Zelda, you fight against other ships in Asteroids style combat, except there is a huge vast space to explore.

There are some large servers and some smaller servers, but I wouldn't go as far as to call it vast. Its not like a huge MMO where you'll occasionally run into people, you play with and against people, there are no computer opponents.

Mine says:

Chip Type: GeForce2 Go

DAC Type: Integrated RAMDAC

Approx. total mem: 16.0 MB

Current Display Mode: 1024 x 768

So, is that the suck? what can i run on that (could i run half-life? diablo II?

Cool, I'll have to check it out sometime

If that RAM is your vid ram as I think it is you should be able to run Diablo II and Half Life just fine. Maybe not at the highest possible settings but still comfortably.

Awesome. i'm going to check that out. I've always wanted to play half-life but didn't think my system could handle it.

I love Armada, especially the escort missions. I wish it was actually online, or a similar game with PvE.

You should be able to run it. My smokin' 400 Mhz, 64MB ram, and 8 MB ATI Rage Pro Turbo HP PC ran Diablo 2 and Half-life decently...in 640X480...in software mode...at 30 FPS  I still had a blast playing TFC, Svencoop, and CS though, so you should have no problem running it at a decent speed.

Check out an old game called "Subspace".
Its like a massive multiplayer version of asteroids with different ships and weapons, and a bunch of different game modes like capture the flag and deathmatch.

As I'm looking right now, it looks like they renamed the game "Continuum" and made it available for free since the publisher stopped supporting it, but the fanbase remained interested. Check out http://www.ssdownloads.com/ for a copy.
It looks like there is still a fairly healthy community (around 800 players while im typing this).

I wasted hell of a lot of time on this game back in the day. Its simple and addicting. If its still around check out a map/game mode called "trench wars".

Umm what is the point of asking for a game with low requirment when the games are all old and very few people play them? Are any of the games mentioned here have a good amount of people playing them right now?

Oh theres this game that was just released a few days ago called STick Arena. Its great and you can play with people online. Basicly its a top down counter strike with sticks. Though its just a free for all and who ever kills the most wins. Go to StickArena.com

Subspace does... There are many games with low requirements that lots of people play. People still play the original Unreal Tournament.

i am mainly going to be playing among my friends. I usually get my ass kicked against others.

But you would be surprised how many people still play those games I listed, despite being almost 10 yrs old.

People still play Unreal. I know because I installed the expansion pack and jumped online the other day. It's a lot more fun than when it first shipped because it actually works now. Heck, people even still play Quakeworld religiously.

My favorite old multiplayer games are half life Team fortress classic(Fps), and total annihilation(rts). For TA you can download tons of extra officially made units that practically make it a whole new game.
Anarchy Online for online mmorpg, its free also.
