Red Dead Redemption- Out Now

search for raccoons and skunks at night? There should be a fox pictured on the map somewhere, try that area.

There's a weird spawn for them, it spawns one per "roundabout" in Armadillo, at night, just behind the stagecoach. Just run near it, look for something running away from the coach (or into town), kill, run away or around town, repeat.

Foxes like to roam outside of town, in the direction of the stage coach, as well. (direction as in, the side of town it's on... I'm not ingame.) I recommend bait.

I also noticed alot of skunks outside of Macfarlane Ranch, just wandering.
Finally got 100% today. Boy does this game drag on once you beat the main story.
Yep... Which is too bad. I'm sitting at 97.5% (need a few bounties) because...
I really, really hate playing as Jack. I want a cheat to turn into John Marston!

I agree.
His voice is just SO DANG ANNOYING. Not to mention he looks like a pedophile. I thought it was a cool twist, but after about five minutes, I wanted John back.

In classic soodmeg style, I actually dont like this game.

Its not bad, dont get me wrong its not bad at all.....just boring as all hell. Both this and GTA are time sinks but GTA just has more fun with it. Picking flowers? Playing horseshoes? Poker? fucking cattle herding? These things are good for about 10 min and then worthless after wards.

Its a ghost town compared to GTA (pun intended) and everyone I meet needs to be saved within 2 seconds of seeing their blip on the screen and since I cant find the handbrake on this horse by the time I turn around they are dead, leaving me with 5 more guys to bullet time in the face. Speaking of horses, the 5-10 plus min it takes to ride to every destination is really starting to annoy me. It wouldnt be a problem if there was things to do along the way....but I can only shoot a eagle so many times before its boring as hell.

Havent tried the multiplayer yet though...about 8 hours into the main story.

It could be that I am just not a western fan.
It could be that I am just not a western fan.
Guess not. On the other hand I loved it, whereas I watched a lot of the GTA IV story missions on youtube and thought it was incredibly dull. It just felt so generic. I just get so much more into the western setting than the generic city setting of GTA IV. I liked Vice City a lot because it had real "character", and San Andreas because you could finally explore the countryside and multiple cities. Setting wise, I thought GTA IV was a big step back.

I'm pretty concerned after hearing about the new announced DLCs. It seems like most of it is just more things to do in multiplayer (I don't like the multiplayer because like others have said most everyone is just 10 year olds who kill everything on sight) and the zombies... major fail. Zombies have no place in RDR it just doesn't seem to fit, given all the lengths they went through to make it a realistic, believable world- including how the game seems to take itself fairly seriously (not a bad thing!). Then they just throw it all out the window to put in the way overused zombie cliche?

Where's the SP Addon packs like Ballad of Gay Tony or LCS? This game is DYING for those! DYING!

RDR feels empty because it's out in the west... It's nothing but dirt and scorpions! There's plenty to do, and you do all of those things because, besides maybe doing actual, boring, repetitive work in a town (or kidnapping someone for ransom, lulz), those are the most productive methods that can also be fun.

GTA IV is awful. The story sucked, there were so many issues with the cover system, and the weapons were bland. In comparison, RDR seems more like a piece of art, as it feels so much more polished/done than GTA IV. There was almost nothing going on in GTA 4 to get involved with spontaneously.

Also, it sounds like Soodmeg doesn't know about the campsite / insta travel / stagecoach. Stagecoaches are in most towns (a wheel with an exclamation mark over it), which will take you anywhere on the map for a small fee, or free when you get to rank 5 treasure hunting. Including waypoints. Same with campsites (go outside of town, off the road, and go to Provisions in your inventory, and use the campsite).

I agree with DLC, but it does sound neat. Overpriced though. I want some SP DLC! The GTA 4 DLC was ignored by me since I don't like GTA 4 (bought it on release, STILL have not beaten it. Ugh.)

I already know about those things. They dont really float my boat in the way a video game should. I am simply bored with what the game presents. But seriously, opinions how do they work again?

100% agreed. Isn't the upcoming DLC just characters and weapons for multiplayer? If So, I won't even buy. What's the point? It's almost as dumb as the SPECACT for BC2. At least they had a promo so you could get them for free. However, I believe two of the DLC's being released are single player, at least we have those to look forward too.

I'm always so surprised at negative feelings towards RDR's sparse environment. I love it so much. It captures the spirit of the cinematic western so perfectly. Artificially crowding the world with useless NPC's or towns every 30 seconds would have belied the setting in a truly unfortunate way. I mean, I'm a fierce supporter of tossing out realism if it gets in the way of fun, but for me RDR struck a sublime balance between the two (I guess it's not extremely realistic, but it felt authentic). Such a memorable experience. Plus, the more "gamey" elements like leveling up in challenges were a great change of pace from the exploration and story missions.

I consider myself a Grand Theft Auto fanboy, but I think the western setting pushes this past GTA IV ever so slightly. At least for me.

Same here. As I've said before, I'm sure there are a lot of people who really dig RDR's multiplayer, but it just isn't my thing.

Reading over the descriptions suggests that only the Undead Nightmare Pack is going to add to the single player in any significant way. The most that the first three packs have for SP are a few new weapons.

Sorry if I was pushing mine or trying to suffocate yours, it's just that I adore RDR in every sense of the word. I'm surprised there are adults that dislike the game, when there are little kids that....enjoy the auto aim mechanic and friendly fire? (ARGH!) I mean, I HATED westerns before RDR came out, and since, I've watched several and liked them.

Ah well.

I wonder how the tomahawk will work... Hopefully better than the throwing knife at range. An explosive rifle also sounds somewhat promising...

I wonder what the free roam pack really includes, if R* is coming out with an 'anti griefing patch' that sounds awful, and won't work unless there's something they left out.

I almost want to pick up the Legends and Killers pack just to play as Red. Curious what other places it'll have for Multiplayer as well.

And, just for anyone who needs any information at all, this site has everything. It's the Red Dead wikia.

Wow, that's lame. The only time I had any fun with multiplayer was when I played it with my friends, who no longer play it anymore. Oh well, it only saves me money.
Already done, add CAG Posse, if you haven't already.
Hot damn! I will add this gamertag now, because my Goozex copy is finally shipping this week!:bouncy:

Ineed 5 beavers to finish up the side mission in mexico. I got the red sage and 20 feathers. I went to the river area just outside blackwater, put down bait, got nothing. The only time ive seen beavers is a couple by the lake near tall trees.

They're swarming along the bigger river to the northwest of Blackwater. Just go down by the water (There's a narrow path along the water, almost all of the way), and just look around. There's usually 3-4 in a group at a time.

I also doubt beavers would be attracted to blood and various other scents since they don't eat meat. =X (somehow attracted a lone deer with bait once...?!)

So I had a hilarious experience earlier... I was in a pretty deserted free roam. Noticed this one guy hadn't moved for about half an hour, so I went to investigate. He was hiding in some bushes, standing still. I rode over by him, and there's two cougars just kinda circling him but not attacking or anything.

Turns out the guy left his game/360 on for whatever reason, or forgot to turn it off. Anyway.. I shoot cougars, trample him, he gets killed. I use him to get my Horse Trample challenges etc etc. He keeps respawning nearby.

Anyway, I go to one of his next spawn points and I see him absolutely SURROUNDED in wolves (probably around 8 total) AND a cougar! So I'm like "Aww, I won't get there in time..." - So next thing I see, is not that he had been killed by a cougar or a wolf, but bitten by a snake of all things! He spawned on top of a snake, in a wolf pack, near a cougar. What luck.

But yeah, was pretty funny. Eventually I got him repeatedly spawning just outside of Fort Mercer, repeatedly getting killed by gang members. I don't know how long he'll be there, but there wasn't really anyone else in free roam. Man, I was giggly after seeing him die to a snake in such conditions.

Yeah, I've beaten it and moved on. Haven't even thought about it since mid june.

I didn't play it for almost a month after beating it, then finally decided to try the coop pack and got right back into it. I guess it wasn't so enthralling for everyone else, though.

I personally love the game and will never trade it so long as I have a 360, am playing through for a second time, and also slowly leveling up in MP.

I'm also looking for a couple people who would like to play the coop missions as a duo. The missions are really fun this way (except The Herd, god forsaken cows!), as you can't just run in there and pew pew everything up. I don't care if it's regular or advanced (no auto aim), but I can still probably help you get gold on most missions, as well as several challenges or achievements for coop.

Not really, just everyone on here has had the game for a while. Personally, I'm waiting for some more single player content. The offline portion of RDR is definitely my GOTY.

For the general public, I don't think the excitement for the game has dwindled too much. It sold almost a million units in June. I guess we'll have to wait and see for the July NPD, but I bet it did fairly well.

So just finished this game, I'm glad for the actual ending(the one that follows with credits) because otherwise the
looking at the graves
thing just wouldn't have been enough.

im addicted. i havent played sense the game first came out (alan wake took my time away) and started back up a few days ago and i cant stop. i spent like 3 hours last night just finding treasure and flowers. i downloaded the free co-op and did half of those, very fun little missions. im a few missions into mexico and im going to try to keep plugging away at the story and try not to get sidetracked so much. really enjoying it though. its also crazy how beautiful the sky looks at night...all those stars. good stuff.

Ummm this is a spoiler so....

Im looking to find a youtube video of the song that plays after you kill that guy in the snowy area, the one from your old gang. I think after you kill him and ride back there is a song. Does anyone know what that mission is called, or song that plays, or a video of it?

I still love this game and I have noticed attention on it has died out significantly :( This game deserves better than that, but GTA4 style DLC instead of multiplayer DLC would benefit this game much better.

Yeah this game is GOTY candidate, and was one of the best games ive ever played. Its too bad they had to have 1 cut scene with nudity, otherwise i think it would have been alright to let me nephew play it who is 13.

Violence and swearing are ok but a nipple is a no no?..

Shit when I was 13 I would be honored if my uncle would let me play a game with nipples ;)

Fired this up for the first time over the weekend, 2.5 hours in. Still learning the basics and having just come off of Mass Effect 2, the fact that the game doesn't pause while in the weapons wheel drives me crazy! There's so much to do though, I played for like an hour and a half straight, did a bunch of missions but the game is so large it didn't feel like I accomplished much. Really digging it though

Its kind of hard to classify
a guy having sex with a woman who isnt his girlfriend
as just a "nipple".
So if I thought GTA IV was merely okay, will I possibly enjoy this game?
It's very possible. I don't love the GTA games, but I fell in love with RDR. I thought the GTA games were just decent, this game however is magnificent.

Even still, funny how the problem is an act that creates life where an act of taking one is ok.

It has been a while since I have seen that scene, but I believe it is intended for the character to be disliked. Most people would not model themselves after a despised character.

Anyone still playing this.
Should be getting this next week and will be looking for some ppl to play with.
Hit me up if you wanna play.

That fucking mission where you man the gatling gun in the back of the armored truck can suck my ass. A controller was almost thrown through the tv today.

I and a few others that I have met in the game usually posse up on weekends and I think the others play during the week but I don't have enough time. They are a good crew and don't kill other player's unless they mess with us. Sometimes we do a lot of gang hideouts, sometimes co-op, and sometimes just wander around. Depends on the mood and how many are playing at the time. My GT is "Renegade Moose." If you send a friend request just let me know you are from CAG. I usually don't accept randoms.

Beat the game last night, what an amazing ride. How long does it take to beat each of the coop missions? Are they worth the time? I'm considering playing them but might have to hope for randoms since none of my friends have this game on 360.

Aye, the guys with the fire bottles can near insta-kill you if you don't get them while they're still specks in the distance. Luckily I was rich as hell and had max of every item, so I just kept chugging away on the medicine. Another frustrating aspect, while the truck is going up and down hills, often the sides of the truck get in your line of fire while you're trying to shoot those fire bottle guys
Hmm tempted as well, maybe time to get back into RDR.
I told myself I was buying this pack but with funds being tight for me right now I'm a little weary. Hopefully some CAGs can get on here and justify my want to purchase this.

I've been playing this game since release date and spend quite a bit time on MP. I noticed a gamer today that was either exceptionally great with his rifle or has found a way to hack head shots because that's all he did....head shots. Like I said, I've been playing this game for months now and I understand how to snag head shots, but this guy took it to a whole new level. So much so that during a Stronghold game my entire team quit. This guy was guarding a flag and was one shotting every last one of us. I'm not sure if my unknown teammates quit out of frustration or if they are more street wise than I am on mods. Either way, this guy was so good that he basically broke the game.....meaning it wasn't fun to be continuously one shot killed. Kinda of like having an exploding rifle with unlimited ammo. Different animation but same effect. My hats off to him if he's that good....but I'm suspicious.

Just ran into another one tonight.... suspicious player or a very, very, very good player. We were playing in gang matches and in the Armadillo map he had 59 kills, 56 were head shots. This was a fully populated lobby so he had plenty of targets but the next best player score was something like 18 kills and 6 head shots. He FAR out guns the whole server......I find this suspicious. I hope it is a hack and he gets caught. I'd rather think he's cheating then I suck this bad.
