Red Dead Redemption- Out Now
Finally got to spend some time on this yesterday and put it about 8 hours...loving every minute of it. BUT two questions:

1. Is there some kind of proximity sensor for the mountain lions when they are around? Does the horse make a noise or anything? I was out picking stupid daisies for the old man and shank...the horse just fell over.

2. fuck the mountain lions.
A lot of people (myself included) have posted about your horse just mysteriously falling over. Pretty sure it's a glitch.
A lot of people (myself included) have posted about your horse just mysteriously falling over. Pretty sure it's a glitch.
Most of the time it is due to your horse getting bit by a rattlesnake which can be hard to see at times as I noticed I do not always hear them especially if your horse is galloping at full stride.

I thought that too, but it did it at random points. Even while hitched and I was walking around town, it'd just kind of keel over randomly. It stopped after I bought the deed and 'reloaded the horse', so to speak.
The I Know You series was one of the most interesting and unique things I've ever encountered in a game.
Was he
death or the devil or something? I did the whole mission chain and his messages to John were pretty cryptic. That and they were spread so far apart that I don't remember what all he said.

Finished the game two days ago, amazing ride. Is there
anything after the credits other than more free roaming?

I noticed that they tend to go RAAWR when they are around you, but not always. I usually stay on my horse when picking flowers until I'm right at the flower so I can at least have the horse as a shield if one jumps me.
Is there no timer and clock in this game just to keep track like in GTA? A couple time a message popped up when a certain mission wasnt available to come back at a certain time.
Pause, upper right hand of the screen.

From what I have read most people think he is either God or the devil.

I'm not sure if this is before or after the credits, but did you do the mission that starts in Blackwater after you become the son? I think that starts after the credits, I can't remember. Otherwise it just becomes a freeroam world to finish up everything you haven't done.

About the I Know You missions
I did not realize it until I read it on the Wiki but in the last part of the I Know You quest when the Stranger is on the hill and mentions that this is a fine spot, it is the same place John is buried at the end.

Holy crap. I did not notice that. Awesome stuff but it does provide an example of me forgetting what the stranger was talking about/doing. That's more my fault but I suppose because the alternative (some kind of flashback right at the end) would be jarring.

EDIT - life.exe : I did do that mission, that was what triggered the credits. I guess I'll work on collecting some outfits.

I stopped playing GTA4 awhile ago, but did rockstar ever have a similar co-op/mission DLC for that game? Anyways, this RDR DLC looks amazing, IMO they missed an opportunity to make more use of water missions/side games in single player at least.

Can't wait to check out the co-op pack. Finished single player last night. Loved the game and had less glitches than others here. The biggest two were the double crying girl from a stranger mission and one I was badly wounded and took some medecine, but I got shot before it took effect and died, but before the DEAD screen appeared the screen returned to normal like the meds had worked and the game got stuck there. Had to reload my game mid mission and start over. Definitely will get that last 5% for 100%. Already the highest % done in a Rockstar game.
A few thoughts:
I knew all along John would die, alot of things John talked about seemed like foreshadowing for me and then when he says something to Edgar Ross about he'd rather shoot Ross than Dutch in the bank robbery sequence and Ross says they're finally reaching an understanding, then I knew Ross was just going to come for him after it was all over. Although, I usually like an ending like this I didn't like it as much for some reason, maybe I fell for the whole he really can redeem himself deal. Maybe it should have had more impact like he came out surrendering and they shot him up anyway.

Did anyone else put every bullet in the gun into Ross's face. Seemed like the easiest duel in the game, too. He also had 400 bucks on him. Course I had 8000 and nothing to buy really. And there should have been an actual fight with Dutch before the cutscene. Liked the cutscene, but I felt cheated by not getting to really shoot it out with him and why does it take a handful of missions to get big bad Dutch, but the punk Williamson took forever?

I had done all of the stanger missions except daedalus, and I noticed when I brought him the stuff he asked if that nice man had sent me. According to the tombstone dates he waited three years for those supplies!

I wonder if there are any changes to stranger missions if you play them all as Jack. In my game, John's tombstone should read "Here lies John Marston. He never found that fifth skunk for level 6 hunter." Really haven't found one skunk in a LONG time even though I've looked where I've seen them before. Also, I'd like to have some DLC and play as Sheriff Johnson kicking ass or Jack on a revenge tear killing all the guys who killed his dad, especially Ross' bitch sidekick.

I think DLC I'd like to see the most would be some flashback content using John again. Not knowing of the farm missions, I really expected some flashback missions near the end. Maybe Ross would shoot John and while he bleeds out a flashback mission starts that has John back in the old gang and maybe even ends with him getting shot and left for dead like they always talked about. After playing like a saint it would be cool to play up the bad guy and rob banks and trains with the old crew. How bad ass would it be to use those four characters in co-op or to find out more about Uncle? Can you rob banks in this game? Seems like there's a sequence in the trailer which shows a bank robbery while John talks of his past, but maybe it was set up just for that purpose.

After about 6 days of off and on playing , i finally got to mexico. I must say I'm not a huge fan of the storyline He does all these random chores and dirty work of other people, typical gta style story Kill 20 guys during a mission, get $10-20 lol. What happened to the woman Bonnie, she gets kidnapped, saved by him, and her entire family disappears no other missions involving her.
Now in mexico, i assume all the other previous characters you interacted previously you wont see anymore and more new people you have to do missions with. I would say this game is much easier than GTA, in terms of the AI. Which is good, i would get frustrated with GTA missions and stop playing, i havent even finished a GTA game in the past. As we know, this map is massive just for fun i time riding from fort mercer battle scene to the boat area to meet Irish going into mexico, on horse it took around 6-7 + minutes riding. Now I see why Rockstar included include lots of animals, sidemissions, etc It gets kind of boring and tedious when riding between desitinations and need some filler. BTW, anyone timed the distance riding from one side of the map to the other?

Spoiler tags please.
I haven't started the game yet.
Just curious but how many people caught the little homage to Halo, the part of Mexico named "Sidewinder Gulch"?
I don't think that's necessarily a reference to Halo. I've actually read more than one western that had a Sidewinder Gulch in it, though I've never come across one in real life.

After a cursory Google search, I found that there's even a Motorstorm track named Sidewinder Gulch. Just proof that it's a common name for sandy areas in the West.

Why are you reading a thread about a game you don't even play?

I have the co-op pack queued and I can't wait to get home and try it out! Looks like a ton of fun.

I got it about 2 hours ago and was reading the thread before I started.
Regardless, I'm sure there are plenty of people who haven't gotten to whatever part he was talking about.

anybody having trouble logging into multiplayer after the DLC? Neither my friend or myself can log in... just get the loading screen...
I downloaded the dlc how do i access it from free roam? i press the back button and get the multiplayer list, but dont see it listed
It appears midway down on the multiplayer screen.

My thoughts on the DLC... after playing a handful of missions, online multiplayer still hasn't really peaked my interest. I also thought that some of these missions would be hard in public. Imagine you just save the hostage to have a random cap her in the head... or watch someone murdering the herd... or fitting a big posse on the raft. hey at least it was free..

Well I learn something new everyday! :)

I played the new co-op missions last night for about an hour. I really hate that if your whole posse dies, you have to start from the beginning. I don't know why you can't start from the checkpoint, that's pretty annoying. Other than that, it's fun as hell and well worth the price of free.

Did anyone else run into multiplayer issues today? For example, I was doing a gang shootout and would repeatedly shoot someone (it got to the point where I shot them about 14 times) and they never die. Then, after all that shooting, they just die, and you get no points. The screen just reads "(player's name) has died"

I had horrible connection issues with Free Roam last night. Normally it takes me a few tries to get into a Free Roam session, but I had to ask my friend to make a Private Free Roam just so I could connect to a game to even get to the Co-op Missions on the menu. They need a better system for the Multiplayer menu.

Yes connection issues on free roam all day yesterday, though it worked later in the night.
Co-op missions are okay, basically same stuff you do in single player. The herding and saving the woman in fort mercer were pretty easy. I would say hardest was the raft. As mentioned, if the everyone dies start all over rather than just the last checkpoint. Cant complain since the DLC was free, but I wouldve expected more creativity or new stuff. If its a DLC or add on i would hope they have more river side mission/mini games than just shooting from a raft

As simple as they are, these were pretty fun to go through. Pretty sure I wouldn't want to pay for something like this though, I'd rather have single player DLC of some kind.

My only complaint is how the checkpoints serve no real purpose. Having to start all the way back at the beginning on failure just makes it annoying. Count me out for doing the advanced missions.

Anyone else encountered cougars in the swamps by Thieves Landing? I was at Stillwater Creek and had just hunted the superboar for the last hunting challenge and after I skinned it a cougar came running out from under the bridge. His partner killed my horse while I was skinning him. About fifty feet away I encountered two lawmen chasing a criminal so I helped them and then they were killed by two more cougars. This was all right outside the entrance to Thieve's Landing. I figure it was a spawn error caused by having the more powerful boar around.

Up to 99.5% complete, just have to do four bounties in Mexico and earn the US Marshals outfit!

Anyone know how Gold is determined in DLC? I just did the Herd with 3 people at 7:30ish time with all 20 cattle in with only one person with 2 deaths. Everyone else didn't even get downed. We only got Silver. Any idea the criteria for that one?

I have just started playing online (finally moved into my new house and have high speed again) and would love to have some CAGs to play this game with. Feel free to add me: Renegade Moose.
Is there a CAG posse yet for online play? I'll join as soon as I get my copy from Goozex.:D
Yes, add the friend "CAG Posse".

I believe that if anyone in your posse gets killed they are brought back if the remaining players can reach the next checkpoint. Then you can play on as a full group. Somewhat useful I guess...

Ah, guess that makes sense. With just two players we didn't make any use of it since when one of us died the other did shortly after.

You're getting pretty close. I don't remember how many missions exactly but not a lot.

I have done that one a couple times now and we both were around 9-10 minutes and we got Silver, I think both times nobody died either. I'm guessing either you guys didn't kill everybody or you get less points if somebody dies or you might even need to post a faster time.

seven to eight short homestead missions and you're done. Then there is a new stranger mission available afterwards that concludes the story.
If you haven't completed the "I Know You" stranger mission
do it BEFORE you do any more story missions as it goes away after the homestead missions are done.
