My wifes web site - Nice jewelry good prices.

For hopefully the latestest most current up to date guide drops please refer to the

"CAG Strategy Guide WIKI page"

recent drop section

http://wiki.cheapassgamer.com/index.php/Category:Strategy_Guides_(recent_drops)

master list section

http://wiki.cheapassgamer.com/index.php/Category:Strategy_Guides_(master_lists)

they will be filetered from the thread posts to the WIKI page as often as possible. Thank you for your contribution.

Listed in the wiki is the most up to date compiled list of all known guide deals from the posts of this thread and similar threads. I will update the wikis lists as people post new guide deals. Everything listed in this thread “should” be the price listed or lower. These prices are typically company wide price reductions and not YMMV. But just because the prices are typically universal does not mean that they are guaranteed to be sold to you. Most stores have a destroy clause with the guide companies. So whether or not you get these guides depend on many many factors from how diligent a staff is to how reasonable or friendly one is. Good luck on any you may find and good luck on acquiring them. Please dont have a fit if a store wont let you have them just move on. Causing trouble rarely gets guides and most of the time stops others from getting guides in your area. If anything is incorrect or missing please post so corrections can be made.

Now you can just cut, paste, print, and GO!!!

What is a Penny Guide:

To answer this question fully, one first has to understand the longstanding legal agreemenat which [book] publishers have with book sellers such as Borders, Barnes & Noble and other chain and Mom & Pop shops, as well as other retailers who similarly sell their books.

For several decades, publishers such as Simon & Schuster, Penguin, Random House, et cetera will send out X-number of a title to stores to be sold. After a time, when it is decided that those older titles have little chance of selling and the store shelf real-estate would be better used for newer publications, they issue a recall to the vendors to field destroy all remaining copies of titles A, B & C.

The stores then will pull those titles from their inventory to be field-destroyed, and in their systems mark the publications as 1¢. The 1¢ price is to indicate to the publisher that they are no-longer selling the pulled title, and it is also to serve as a Red Flag to any cashier who might ring up a title (on the chance that the titles were not pulled as legally they were required).

When the pull lists are sent out by the publishers, and the stores adjust the price in their inventory (and pull and field-destroy the books), the stores also are to report to the publisher the number of the books they pulled. (This is generally done at a corporate level.) The publisher then credits the stores full cost of the books.

So lets say, MegaChain orders 8000 copies of the Bread Baker strategy guide for their stores in North America for say, $4 a piece. They owe $32,000 to Publisher X. Bread Baker being a big seller and a hard game, then sells 6000 of those 8000 guides, leaving around 2000 guides on the shelves when Publisher X issues the pull demand. Publisher X then issues MegaChain an $8000 credit for the 2000 unsold copies of the guide.

According to IAmTheCheapestGamer, some retailers also have deals where each copy of pulled titles sent to their recognized Recycling Centers are additionally issued further credit for being environmentally responsible in the manner in which they field destroy each book.

How you can help: You can keep a printed copy of this list in your jacket, wallet, purse whatever and when you go to any store that carries guides look for guides for games that have been out typically around six months or more and ask for a price check or better yet use a store scanner if they are available. If they are anything less than cover price write it down for us. Also please when you post the info here if it looks like it’s a temporary sale, please post that as well otherwise it will be assumed to a be a permanent price reduction. If you scan a guide and it comes up a different price that what the master lists suggests please list the day and store that you had the guide scanned. Also please list if you physically saw a self-scanner’s price, physically saw a cash registers price or vocally heard a price from the store’s staff. This might sound like a lot and of course we will take what we can get but this will go a long way to having the best master list as well as ferreting out different store practices and policy’s. All help is appreciated and thank you.

Trading: I spoke with the post office and found out that the cheapest form of mailing to the 48 contiguous states would be to use “media mail” It will take a little longer but it will also allow the least amount of money per transaction when trying to acquire guides for your collection. For an average guide weight of about 9 oz its $1.42 cents. All you need to do is put it in an envelope and ship it media mail. He mentioned no one should have a problem if you use the same envelope several times to cut down on costs. He also mentioned that when shipping Media mail that you cannot have any personal correspondence in the envelope. Only books and an invoice are acceptable. If trading is in you interest you do whatever is most comfortable for you and your trading party this was merely a FYI and a good way to keep it cheap.

Looking for assistance: I am looking for some staff from Best Buy’s, EB’s, Gamestop’s and stores of the like. When EB Games or Gamestop has a price reduction their shelves can be empty in a day or two to even as little as just a few hours. EB and Gamestop have daily price changes so all depending on the store’s staff they could be all gone almost immediately. If I could get some staff that can either post here first thing any day that they have a price reduction on guides or that might be able to text message me with such price reductions so that I might be able to inform CAG’ers ASAP. Whether or not us the end user would actually be able to get them from a particular stores staff is very much an YMMV but if there is anyone who can help this would greatly increase the chance’s of CAG’ers being able to pick up guides from these locations. If anyone is interested and able to help please e-mail me at [email protected]. Thank you all for your consideration.

Thank you all for making CAG what it is and for all your contributions.

all guides are now listed in the wiki please go there. thank you.

Oh. Damn. They had Mega Man ZX at one store and that was the one where the employee wouldn't admit to anything being pennied out. I probably passed on several copies at the next store because of that guy, too. Lame.

Just hit my 2 local stores and they wouldn't hook me up with the few ratty-looking guides they had (oh, well... more dupes). But perversely enough one of the employees actually busted out some sealed copies of RE4LE for GC while I was there. $19.99 for a sealed RE4LE definitely made that trip worthwhile. :bouncy:

Oh, and my list definitely won't be made up until tomorrow or Monday. Sorry, I need a break. I just (sincerely) hope nothing else gets clearanced for at least a week or 2, all this chasing around is killing me.

Looking for:

Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams
Soul Calibur 3: LE
Radiata Stories
Grandia 3
Tales of Legendia
Resident Evil Archives
Yakuza
Spy Hunter

Please CML.
Yakuza, Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories, and Tales of Legendia O:):pray:
If you want Tales of legendia, Yakuza or Chain of Memories, I am willing to trade it for Resident Evil: Archives

decent haul, have the following up for trade:

HAVE:
Devil May Cry 3
Dragon Quest Heroes Rocket Slime
Soulcalibur III
Spy Hunter Nowhere to Run
Street Fighter Alpha Anthology
Xenosaga Episode II
X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse

Also, CML for tons more

WANT:
GOD OF WAR! (Still looking for this thing)
Grandia III
Megaman ZX
Onimusha Dawn of Dreams
Radiata Stories
Resident Evil Archives
Soul Calibur 3:LE
Valkyrie Profile Silmaria

If anyone managed to snag Valkyrie Profile Silm., good for you, but it's not actually supposed to be pennied. A GS near me was kind enough to print out their inventory. They had it in stock, but was full price, and the pennied guides were indeed a penny on the sheet. Sorry, nothing new to add to the list though (they didn't have a very long inventory sheet)

I do have 1 extra VP Lenneth and 1 extra RE: A. Several spare Legendias. No Yakuza or KHCoM (I want both of those and Mega Man ZX). I probably got more copies of Xenosaga II than anything else (probably got about 10 extra of those).

sorry misread, never mind.

How are you guys getting these anyways? Does my area just suck?
I hit a couple stores, a mix of EB and GS, and they all keep their strategy guides in the back now. Only one guy was cool enough to look through them for me but they didn't have anything.

If anyone would sell Radiata Stores or Suikoden Tactics let me know. I have 2 of the Kingdom Hearts CoM guides and Killzone from when Best Buy pennied them I would trade, it's all I really have for trading.

I would like to trade for RE:A. scroll up to see what i have. If you also have Radiata Stories and/or Harvest Moon that would be even better

Made another trip to a different local GS and had a nice score

they still had a bunch on the shelves so i pulled a bunch and set on the floor.
Walked over to Wii games and grabbed Metal Slug, and went up to the front desk and asked what their policy on penny guides was.
Guy said "We don't sell them" so i said can you give them to me? he still said no, then i mentioned other stores dont care - still didnt budge. So i broke out the big guns and fluttered my baby blues and he gave in.

Got the Valkyrie i wanted finally and a couple other guides to hook up CAGs that asked already. Leftover (in addition to above post somewhere)

VP Lenneth
MGS 3 Subsistence
DragonQ Rslime
Xenosaga 2
Star Ocean 3

After hitting multiple EBs, I finally scored the jackpot at one, where I literally gave the guy a list and he came out from the back with everything they had. So that is why I now have 8 Soul Calibur III LE guides in possession :) I'll post in the trading forum but the guide that I really wanted I coudn't get anywhere - Harvest Moon Magical Melody. I have pretty much all of the good guides from this drop and older that I would be willing to trade. Oh, btw, at one store I found a DQM and SFAA guide out in front of the counter and the guy scanned it and said "This is a penny. We can't sell it to you." My response: "Why?" His answer "Because then people will go and sell all of these on ebay." He was 100% serious as if that was a real reason to refuse a sale. What a great attitude. Unreal.

Would be intrested in 1-2 copies of RE Archives for me anda friend if anyone has any extra. I'm willing to trade 2-3 guides for each copy. Got the following

Prey
Ultimate Spiderman
Metal Gear Solid 3
Half Life 2 Episode 1
Titans Quest
Quake 4
Enchanted Arms
Auto Assault
Mage Knight Apocalypse
Jade Empire
Halo 2
Kameo
Black
Splinter Cell Chaos Theory

OK, apparently all my local EB/GS stores are getting WAY better at pulling these guides. And, at the one store, the one clerk came back to where the guides were while I was looking and said 'We got a list of which ones to pull and pulled them ALL already'.

I guess I must be known as 'the guide guy' at that store, since I routinely only ever go there when something gets pennied out. However, to show him up that they weren't 100% thorough, I found ONE single copy of DQH: Rocket Slime on the shelves.

That kinda stunned them that they missed that one, I think.

I tried my one local GS that's usually good for at least 1-2 guides as well, only to find this store COMPLETELY devoid of penny guides anymore.

I may still hit up a couple other GS/EB stores about 20 or so miles away, but most of them keep them in the back anymore and their policy is 'if it's ON THE FLOOR, we'll sell it for .01, if it's in the back, no way'.

Anyway, the DQH guide will be added to my TL soon, but it ISN'T in immaculate shape. It looks like someone used it as a clipboard, as there's some writing on the cover(not in ink, just the indents of someone writing on paper over the cover) AND the lower right hand corner of the guide is all bent up.

I just wanted to let everyone know that ahead of time, so as there is no griping if I send you the guide and it has a 'crease' or something somewhere on it.

Furthermore, check my TL and if you wanna know the condition of any guide, please ASK, as I don't readily describe the condition of EACH one. Just know that MOST of my guides are between mint to a little shelf worn(scratches on the cover, etc).

Thanks again for all the trades/sales folks.

well hit a few gstops today, first store was cleaned out except for a few megaman zx, the guy said i can pik em up tommorow since he needed to make it look like he
disposed of them. 2nd store I went to tossed them all out the night before so he showed me where they were and got more guides (they were all in a carboard box so it was cool XD). 3rd-5th store all gone sold or tossed so gave up. 6th store found 11 guides so all in all i got about 40

which include:

Tales of Legendia x4
valkyrie profile lenneth
star ocean 3 x2
radiata stories x3
xenosaga 2
soul calibur 2 LE x2
GTA x4
metal gear solid 3 substinance x2

few more i have to go through

Rockman, please let me know if you're able to get an extra Mega Man ZX guide for me tomorrow.. my guide list is posted in the trading forum.

Well I grabbed about 42 guides at one store & I know I missed some others. I'm going to attempt to make a complete list of the current drops @ EB/GS that we've uncovered so far. If anyone has any others to add let me know. Here goes:

Castlevania : Curse of Darkness
Company of Heroes
Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening
Dragon Quest : Rocket Slime
Gameshark 2006 Codebook
GTA: Liberty City Stories (Black PSP cover, & White PS2/PSP cover)
GTA San Andreas
Grandia 3
Harvest Moon: Magical Melody & Harvest Moon DS
Mage Knight Apocalypse
Megaman ZX
Megaman Battle Network 6
Metal Gear 3 : Subsistence
Onimusha : Dawn of Dreams
Prey
Radiata Stories
Resident Evil Archives
Shadow Of The Colossus
Soul Calibur 3 : LE & Reg.
Spy Hunter Nowhere to Run
Star Ocean 3
Street Fighter Alpha Anthology
Suikoden V
Tales of Legendia
Titan Quest
Valkyrie Profile : Lenneth
Xenosaga 2
Xmen Legends 2: Rise of Apocalypse
Yakuza

Thanks to the guy that mentioned this drop and everyone that contributed afterwards with new guides that they found. The good old annual Brady Games January guide drop :)

I kind of Hope Suikoden V isn't pennied out and the guy that got it lucked out has my store had one and it'll almost surely be gone next time I make it to the mall if it's pennied out.

Mentioned already but Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria was full price for me as it was for others and seems to be a mistake that someone was able to get it for a penny.

I didn't grab the Soul Calibur 3 LE guide as I though it was Soul Calibur 2 LE that was pennied out  What's the difference between the LE and regular guide? I have a regular guide and am just wondering what fancy features I'm missing out on and if it's something I would use/make use of or if I just missed out on some LE deal I should just live without and not let bother me :)

Got from this drop to trade

Metal Gear Solid 3: Substance (Brady Games)
Tales of Legendia (Brady Games)

Interested in trading for from this drop

Castlevania: Curse of Darkness
Grandia III
Megaman ZX
Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth

These are the only guides I could find cashed pages for, 7 out of about 25. Maybe they haven't been on the site for awhile if they have been OOS online since well before they got discontinued and that's why I can't find cashed pages for so many of the guides from this drop (or I'm just not good at finding them :)).
Soul Calibur 3 : LE has a soundtrack and some other junk
Cool if it's gone next time I'm by the mall I guess it's no big deal since it sounds like just something else neat for the "collection" :D

This is the greatest drop EVER for me! Late last night when I finally check the forum I notice this huge drop, and I was starting to get worried because it seems like its been around for 2 days, and by then its very hard to find guides. Well, I go to my email to send my friend Razi an email because she works at EB, and its always easy to get penny guides when she is there. Well, in my email is a message from her stating "Hey, we had a HUGE guide drop yesterday, and I have them all in my car for you, theres like 60+, so come get them as soon as you can. And by the way, I called the Manchester store and they're holding all 100+ of theres for you, if you want them, give them a call in the next few days or there garbage." If this is true, dear god I love this women, and this is probably the easiest drop ever for me due to the fact I don't have to try any tactics to get the guides.

Well vahn if you or anyone else gets one of the Resident Evil Archive books send me a PM. I'll trade or paypal for it. Its the only book I really want from this drop.

Funny, it seems this drop was really either hit or miss. Some people got loads and loads of guides, whereas others weren't able to get a single one. Interesting.

My god...hey, did you get a dead rising?

I used to work with the crew that gave me the guides and one of them was nice enough to load it up in my car:p I'll be sure to check and see if I have a dead rising guide. Also I'm sorry if I'm considered a hoarder I asked for one of each but was offered the whole thing. I refused once but I didn't refuse a second time. heh

edit I didn't see a Dead Rising Guide in the bunch. The only ones i found that are worth mentioning is . Valkyrie Profile Lenneth Star Ocean Til the End of Time, DQ Rocket Slim. Street Fighter Alpha Anthology Suikoden Tactics. Grandia III, Doa 4, Tales of Legendia, and MGS3 Subsistence.

Personally I'm looking for the Gears of War LE guide. I will trade well for it
