The Reduced Price Guide FAQ/OP has been moved to the SECOND post.

lol the dude @ the store with Donkey Kong returns and Duke nukem drops decided to call the district (?) manager to see if he can sell me the penny guide. haha, manager said it's okay to sell me Donkey Kong. And I switched it out for Duke because I don't have that game. He wanted to call back and ask if it's okay, but manager didn't pick up.

Good catch. It appears if a guide was unavailable to be purchased online at the time and it drops it stays on the site? Badass.
 
They will probably just update over night. At the very least I'll get a list of stores to try (also got a few reserves in but that is very YMMV)...though it is the usual suspects in my area.

Add Black Ops, Dragon Quest 9, & Red Dead regular to the list..

Got a RDR Guide from the MOA GS, but they took the front cover. Will still use it for myself, though. Oh, and I also say there was the regular Reach guide.

Based on that online "trick", the guide for Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together also pennied.

I tried to PickUp@Store for the New Vegas CE and Tactics Ogre guides, but I haven't yet gotten the original emails confirming that I placed hold requests on them... :cry:

Oh well, at least I can check the stock of nearby stores before the guides are removed from the site completely. :D

I managed to originally do the in-store pickup thing and get my emails, but now I need to put in a valid credit card number? I didn't before. I also updated my post with Tactic Ogre.

The first couple I did for in-store pickup went through instantly. Now it seems it's glitched and none are going through.
 
Ok people, didn't think I need to say it but DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES USE THE INSTORE PICKUP FOR A PENNY GUIDE!

All you are doing is ruining your chance of getting it, and notifying the store of a drop and their need to grab any guides they missed.

Which is why I only did it at a store so far away that the only reason I'd go would be if it went through.

Surprised the hell out me too, I never go to this GS either, the manager was more than happy to give me my pick. I put down a pre-order for the trouble, so I will definitely return.

Actually I did my instore pick up for new vegas and Epic mickey because i already have regular version of new vegas and I don't need Epic so just thought I'd try without driving there. To my surprise, he called me and said my order is reaady. I drove out, he rang up and said no he can't sell it to me due to it being a penny. I asked if he's serious, since he called me out just to reject me. He then called his manager and gave me the guides. :lol:
 
Don't usually try for GS drops, but I have a store close by so I swung by since I wanted to pay off AC:R. Only thing I saw was the DQ IX guide, but it was pretty shelf worn and I already have one.

It's not like I'm purposefully trying to fuck everyone over, I'm trying to get in on something. Since I actually just got a pickup email I'd call it successful. Sorry I put myself in front of a John Doe I don't know- I know how everyone else on this site always does the exact opposite. :roll:

EDIT: To add to the discussion about not putting these guides on hold for in-store pickup, I'm kicking myself for trying to do that earlier in the evening for the FO:NV CE and Tactics Ogre guides. Since I never received emails confirming that I placed the holds, I can only hope they didn't go through. In the event that what I attempted to do negatively affects other people in the areas where the two stores were located (Frederick and Germantown, MD), I sincerely apologize and I will most definitely never do it again, that's for dang sure.

Whether you meant it or not, you are.

There is a reason I didn't post the list earlier when the guides could still be put for in-store pickup. Because dicks like you think you can just place the order somewhere that "isn't near you" and end up ruining it for someone else. It's always the case when they are available for in-store pickup when all you are doing is ruining it for other people(including yourself).

So way to fit into the group of people that makes me resist posting these lists of guides early.

It's pretty strange that they haven't been taken down yet... :???:
 
IATCG, I have a suggestion. It would be great if you would color code the store names (GS-red and BB-yellow) in the master drop list (post 2). I was looking for BB drops and it would be a lot easier if we were able to scroll through looking for the color instead of having to closely check each line. Seems easy enough to implement and would certainly be beneficial.

My nearest Gamestop is 20 minutes away, then there are 3 right in the same area. These are the ones I go to. The Gamestop I did the in-store pickup for is half an hour away (And is the only of the 6 that had the FNV guide I want) and there are also 3 right in the same area.

I go to the three 20 minutes away because it's slightly closer, it's near my work, and I usually have other business to do there. It's not like I put an order in for somewhere an hour away from me just to be a douchebag. I did it to get a couple guides I wanted, which so far has been successful.

Hell, if they had been in stock I probably would have done it to the closer ones. I've done it at Best Buy without problems- along with a TON of other people during the last drop in August. If I had known how people would have blown up I probably wouldn't have even bothered with it, and next time I won't.

Considering I've got 2 guides from Gamestop drops in the past, and both have been after the fact they've been pulled from the Gamestops half an hour away, I don't really feel too bad about doing it. If someone actually knows about guide drops chances are they'll still be able to get in on it.
 
so i just talked to a friend of mine saying they threw the guides away at 9pm so i went to the garbage and got them all lol
 
Another sweet drop that i won't get from my local GS's. Tempted to offer up to trade my extra Dark Souls guide for some of those LEs I want...hmm

fuck, I thought there might have been a drop today, but I checked the website this morning and nothing was taken off! GS is getting smarter about denying drops. :wall:

There's not really a clear "back" to the store where it would be. Behind it is a clear walkway and beyond that an Olive Garden. Closest dumpsters I can think of are the ones near the restaraunts, but I don't think it'd be in there. I have a feeling the dumpster is in the "back" but not in an open area. :whistle2:\
 
The manager at mine is the only one who will give me penny guides. The other people that work there get really annoyed (even though they like me) because he won't give the guides to them. The thing is I always do surveys and often help them sell the PUR memberships to customers (for example if someone is buy 3 54.99 games and is uncertain if they want to buy the membership, I chime in and explain that they are saving the $15 immediately).
 
im going to stop by my 2 gamestops today see if i can get lucky on at least the tactics ogre guide and donkey kong. those are ones i have games for the others would just be nice for trade bait etc...

Why not just trade the rest on here for ones you may need and don't have rather than throwing them out? Or at least donate them to Goodwill/Salvation Army.

That's what I wish GS/BB would do with their guides rather than just tossing them in the dumpster/compactor. Such a wasteful practice to either sell something for full price or toss it in the garbage to end up in a landfill.

Anyway, rant over. I'll be updating the appropriate posts in a bit. Oh and neo, I may consider doing the color coding for BB/GS, though I'll have to switch back to IE to do it since I'm on Google Chrome now(which is much nicer and doesn't take as many resources as IE imo).
