The Reduced Price Guide FAQ/OP has been moved to the SECOND post.

Day two, these are from a single gamestop. I was gonna take one of the portal, and one of tactics ogre, but the guy told me to take them all. Didn't even charge me, just told me to take them and not tell anyone. Me and him are bloodbrothers now i suppose. A sworn oath that can never be broken. But in all honesty, this is my local gamestop, and this guy has seen me about 100 times, so he figures i'm a good customer.
I was kind of saddened because I went to another gamestop and they had a duke ce, dragon age 2 ce, and another guide that I can't think of off the top of my head, and the guy wouldn't let me take them :/

Can't believe anyone would need or want a Portal guide...would really mess with the flow of the game.

I beat the game ages ago lol. I'd tell you what's inside the guides, but they are all sealed in shrinkwrap lol

I have 100's of guides - i prob have only looked at a handful for playing the respective games. :lol:

Me too. The only ones I've really flipped through are the ones for older games(like an MK II moves guide I found at a local shop) or ones where I wanna find all of the collectibles cuz they give you stuff for finding them(GTA Episodes, weapons pickups in your hideouts).

Otherwise these are just a fire hazard in my house and I should likely just trade em to Amazon for $1 each or something. That is, except for the ones worth decent $$$, like Bad Company 2.;)

I've actually got a lengthy PM I keep as a text file for that exact question, because it comes up every few months or so.

The short answer is from the "Hot Mario Bros" ad campaign that Nintendo ran for various Gamecube/DS games. They starred comedy group 99. In particular, my avatar comes from this Mario Kart DS commercial:

There were some other CAGs who ran around with the other versions of Mario. Reality's Fringe might still have his. dothog has a gif file of the four Marios in his sig currently.
 
Ahhh. I think I remember seeing those commercials someplace and going "WTF" but also laughing my ass off at the same time. Thanks for answering. Of course I'll probably forget the answer in a month or two and end up asking again sometime.;)

this as kind of weird today. Went to my local BBY to run through the guides and they actually had copies of halo reach and thor with a HUGE $0.01 price tag on them. (obnoxiously big) anyone ever seen this?

I've seen normal sized penny stickered, but never 'HUGE' stickers.
 
I swung by BB on my way home on a whim and had them price check Dead Space 2 and Infamous 2 'cause those were the oldest I saw. Both rang up at full price.
 
I checked the Gears of War Book (comic or something like that?) and the Gran Turismo 5 track book (small one that has information about all the tracks) They both rang up at 14.99

Ultragamer is right. I am pretty sure you could tell I was just joking with you because you goofed, not trying to discourage you from posting about possible drops. :applause:
 
Could anyone explain to me in a little bit more detail how to use the gamestop trick? No matter what i try, it always ends up taking me to just gamestop.com

Third (and probably final until new drops) pick up. Not much this time unfortunately :/
The gem of this lot is Fallout 3 GOTY guide. I'm kind of bummed about one of the guides that I didn't get to pick up though, Assasins Creed Brotherhood Colleectors edition. I walk up to ring it up, and it rings up as 15 dollars. Now i know normal CE guides go for more than that, but the price certainly wasn't a penny. I'm a little confused, so I just tell the guy i'm gonna walk around a bit. It finally hits me that what he must have charged me for the regular guide, which hadn't pennied. So i go up to him and ask him if he's sure he charged me for the collectors, and not the regular edition guide. He goes and checks again, and i even read him the sku, and he tells me it's the same one. At this point I just blatantly asked him if the guide had pennied. He looks at me a little confused, then tells me that games with CE and normal editions don't get pennied, that they just get combined into one sku. Has anyone ever heard this before? I'm tempted to go back to the store another day and try and catch someone else working there. Anyways, measly picture today(compared to my first two lol)

At Gamestop or BestBuy?
It only pennied at Gamestop based on the OP. Either way, its worth a good deal more than $15.
 
At a GameStop. I thought about getting it, but these are penny guides, not 15.00 guides lol
So no ones heard that malarkey that guy gave me about method the sku's before?

Not sure because I found a Mass Effect 2 guide at Gamestop yesterday and the guy told me it was still full price. 19.99 or 24.99 something like that.

Was that the ONLY guide you attempted to pick up at GS? If so, did you watch the lil credit card thing on the counter, since it'll show the price the item rings up as.

Chances are he noticed it came up a penny and overrode the price to $15 really quick.

I saw it come up as 15.00 dollars on the credit card scanner. Although maybe at first it was .01 then changed to 15. Who knows. And yah it was the only guide I tried to pick up, as it was the only one to pick up at that gamestop lol.

And I know I said I had posted my last pick up, but I couldn't help myself. This is SERIOUSLY my last pickup until new drops. There are no more stores even remotely close to me that I would hit up lol. I'm honestly amazed that this Best buy still had all these, seeing as they were pennied out over a year ago :drool:
So I didn't really feel bad taking them all lol

You have inspired me! I have some vacation coming up next week, maybe I'll venture out further and see if I can find anything at some more remote stores.

I live in Miami and haven't seen good penny guide ._.
 
Miami's a big place lol, Something i've noticed though, most gamestops have turned me down when I did find penny guides, but not a single Best Buy has. In fact, on my last haul the guy thanked me, that he would have had to throw them out, which I doubt seeing as they've been sitting there for over a year.
 
Btw, if anyone is interested, i managed to find the sku for Phantom Hourglass CE guide - 8514351 (I know, old, but seeing as it's apparently worth quite a bit, I bet a couple of people will at least run it for chuckles)
And Fable 3 CE guide - 1036776
 
Wait. Phantom Hourglass LE is worth something now? I had like 17 of those bitches from the one further off BB that I hit up for two insane hauls soon after they first opened a year or two ago. Of course, now if I find a guide for a cent they deny me immediately.:bomb:

My other two BB stores in this area are a dead zone as well, as are all of the GS stores, although that's cuz of my perma-ban from there.

That reminds me I gotta print up an extra special Christmas card for the VP from GS that approved my banning, then I just gotta decide which under $1 HDMI cable I have I wanna send in the package with a special note being a smartass about my banning.:rofl:

FYI: For those who haven't heard the story yet, me trying to trade in shittons of HDMI cables I got uber cheap online led to my final banning from GS stores after numerous 'transgressions' that the company apparently didn't like.:lol:
