as far as my second gamestop they had over 150+ guides in the back but sadly the manager said he had to field destroy(rip up all the guides)  i tried to talk to him for a good hour to see if i could convince him to let a few slide but he wouldnt budge.  anyhow thats my list.  first time in over 3 years ive had luck with penny guides.  anyone that needs stuff and has some of the guides i posted shoot me a pm and we can talk details as this isnt the forum.

the second gamestop is the mall gamestop.  which sucks cause i cant even dumpster dive for the guides since its a mall shared gigantic trash compactor.  the first gamestop i got lucky and a guy who likes rpgs was their and had the guides all in a box and said they are all going in the dumpster take the box if you want it.  so i just smiled and hauled my 50lbs out lol.  there was about 12 guides i left as it was madden stuff and legos.

I'm a noob to these threads. So does this mean that if a Gamestop near me has, for example, a Skyrim Legendary guide on the shelf, that it'd ring up for a penny? I saw one at the gamestop near my house last night and have been wanting to the guide for a while now. This sounds amazing.

Yes, but they are not supposed to sell them. The $0.01 price is how the system flags items that should be pulled and destroyed. Nine times out of ten, you'll get denied when buying a penny guide at Gamestop.

the guide blocking manager i mentioned missed a few !!! i went back to do a trade in and got

2x resi revelations
1x desgaea hard cover
2x remember me
1x starcraft hard cover
Would you be willing to trade one of those remember me guides.

this is what I have: i have a lego City Undercover guide and Luigi's Mansion Guide

Grabbed a decent haul today. I have an extra Lost Planet 3, Dead Island Riptide, Injustice (Regular) and LEGO City Undercover if anyone is looking to trade for these.

I saved a few CE guides from being trashed. Here is what I don't need if anyone is interested. Also posted them in the trade thread. If nobody offers anything I'll ebay or amazon them, just PM me.

Ni No Kuni - Sealed with code
Pokemon Black 2 / White 2 CE - 4 Sealed and 1 with seal torn on the front
Injustice: Gods Among Us CE - Sealed

Well I have a guilty admission, I was out walking with the wife on Sunday and we walked past a GS so I decided to look in the dumpster. It was full of guides. I had to go get the car there was so many. Word of warning though my GS does not share the dumpster with any other business, so everything was nice and clean. You may not be so lucky :)

It is so ridiculous that the publishing industry has this setup for how guides (and presumably other books) are handled and sold.  Considering that people are willing to dumpster dive for guides should indicate that clearance pricing should be a much more obvious solution.  A lot of these guides would have sold out immediately if they had been $4.99  I don't understand a whole lot about the publishing industry, so maybe there are good reasons for destroying products rather than selling them.  I understand there are incentives to retailers to dispose of them this way, but surely there could be a better setup for all parties involved.

I've often wondered if they aren't just afraid of people holding out for the fire sale prices and not buying them at full price. It's much easier to justify $25-$35 for a guide on day 1 when they just aren't available anymore 9 months later.

I do the same thing. The GS I went to cut into the front pages of the guides. I managed to grab what I could and used transparent shipping tape to fix them. Im going to try another GS dumpster tomorrow with hopefully better luck.

I have enough yellowing-from-the-sunshine guides sitting on my bookshelf; I can only imagine the hell I'd catch from the germaphobic old lady if I brought home guides from a dumpster.

I might be mistaken but I believe Gamestop had a lot of these guides on sale for half price right before they got pennied out. Still, $4.99 would have been a lot nicer!

Heads up Targets here are clearancing guides saw BL 2 , Pokemon dungeons something , Mario Paper Sticker, AC II , AC III and Madden 13 for $5.98 for those who missed on the penny guides

Ok, now that I'm home and on my PC:

Is there a difference between the Black2/White2 pokedex and the guide vol 1?

I got two of those, 2 Hitman regular, 1 Bioshock Infinite, 1 Disgea hardcover, and a couple others that I forget yesterday at GS,

Then today I got 3 Fuse, 1 Donkey Kong CR and 1 RE Rev which was rather amusing.  The cashier called his manager to ok it and told his manager "I just did count yesterday, so they must have pennied today" and ended up just giving them to me.

On the semi-related subject of $.02 PS2 games, I got a brand new/sealed copy of Eye Toy Groove and a new in box(broken seal) copy of Eye Toy Play 2 w/camera today among others. :p

the .02¢ ps2 games are more than likely gone by now...theyve been out there now for a year. the initial batch were thrown away and due to the store transfers / condensing of ps2 games, the rest are more than likely gone by now...I think I picked up a few hundred lol they were so fun to find for a while.

That's not even scratching the surface Dark; far from "a start." :p

There's ~360 different ones at GS.

And, yeah, they are harder to find now for sure.  Still some are out there. (like the ones I found yesterday)

EDIT: out of 366 total different ones, I have found and picked up 160 different ones.

Also, both $.02 PS2 games and penny guides at GS give 1100 PUR points per dollar spent.

FYI - BOOKDEAL at Amazon takes 30% off a book, up to $10.

Just ordered the latest Zelda Hardcover with it.
Thanks for this; it apparently works for preorders, too, though I don't know if it interferes with the Lowest Price Guarantee (brings the Lightning Returns CE down to $21.27).

Otherwise, I'm not sure what to use the code on if it's once per account (if it isn't, I'll just go crazy, so I'd appreciate confirmation):

-Borderlands 2 GotY (I've never seen this anywhere in stores, but I have the original Borderlands 2 CE guide, so I'm not sure how worthwhile this "upgrade" would be)

-LoZ: A Link Between Worlds CE (I tend to use Zelda guides, but from what I've heard, I might get more enjoyment out of ALBW if I explore on my own)

-Watch Dogs CE (it's apparently going to be written by David Hodgson, the best guide-writer I've seen, but would I really need a guide for this?)

:whistle2:k

Thanks but I should have been more specific.  I was looking for an Amazon code comparable to the one Pooky posted.  I appreciate the effort though.

I'm aware of the changes they made a year or so ago.

Last I knew, pennied guides that dropped before the change ring up fine still.
