As a now serving military member this kind of shit pisses me off to no ends. I have seen some foul treatment of veterans by this administration and the Clinton administration that really makes me want to make sure I'm not depending solely on a military pension/health plan. There are a lot of veterans out there who have been out right lied to and I think it's a damn shame
The thing is, this bill won't affect any health pensions in a remarkably significant way (monetarily, anyway, unless we experience a nostalgia of Jimmy Carter-era inflation), financially speaking.
It is, however, a significant show of disrespect to those people who are willing to serve in the military for any period of time, rather than get on with their civilian lives. When we can appropriate money the way the government does to so many superfluous expenditures, this just seems very peculiar. Maybe I'll go back and look at the bill; it may be possible that a Democratic senator proposed it, which led to such a political, rather than practical, reaction. I wouldn't dare suggest that such a reaction is solely the domain of Republicans, but there appears to be no other logical explanation for killing legislation such as this.
Metal Boss, you're free to speak your mind all you want. The point is, you came into this thread goading right-wingers; that's fine, we all do that. However, Quillion (to his discredit) took on the bait you cast (sort of? He never said anything overtly expressing support in this thread), and you decided to flame him (and if you reread what the two of you had to say, every goddamned bit lacks any substance).
From there, you decided to try to go the "Bush vs. Hitler" route. I don't care if you think that is an appropriate comparison; in my eyes, you're a troll. Why not pick someone more contemporary than Hitler? The Ayatollah Khomeni? Idi Amin? Pol pot? Robert Mugabe? Bob Dole? (Big laffs!) Really, bringing up Hitler just emphasizes what little substance you have. In the end, you're being a shit for the sake of being a shit, and the unsubstantive conversation about Bush in this thread just reinforces that.
