We're moving from Ohio to Massachusetts in a month and a half or so, and we need a mover because we aren't hauling that shit ourselves (also, my husband's work is paying for it). My parents did an interstate move a couple years ago and used Atlas Van Lines. I did a free quote on their website and they said someone would contact me in 2 days. That was last Tuesday and no one has contacted me. I tried calling their number to call if no one has contacted you yet and no one answered the phone, no answering machine either.

So, I might try to get in touch with them again later this week and see if they still want our business, which it seems like they don't. At any rate, has anyone on here ever moved cross-country and used movers? If so, who did you use? Would you recommend them?

I don't know who to use but their lack of response seems like a bad thing. What if you end up using them and something happens and you need to make contact?

The problem with all the big movers is it often depends more on the crew you get than the company itself, they all have quality employees and bad eggs so make sure your items are insured for the move and realize that a a couple items might get lost so move the really valuable things yourself and moving out and in days may not be exactly on schedule.

Also get a bunch of quotes, prices can vary widely depending on how many other similar moves they can schedule for the trip especially if you aren't going to fill up the whole truck.

I doubt they're national, but I used Ben Hur for a move from California to Oregon. My advise, get multiple bids, and make them compete against each other. To me, that's a shady industry, and the people that will show up to move you WILL be ex-cons, potentially even drunk on the job, BUT, as long as they aren't dropping your sh**, it shouldn't matter.

But just go online. There are quote generators and company email lists which will get multiple folks contacting you, and offering to come out for a quote. It's not a fun process, but if you do your research, you'll be fine. The BBB is a good resources as well.

We used Beekins back in 2007 for a move from Alaska to Washington. They handled it just fine, nothing broke, nothing lost and even held things in storage for 3 months for us until we figured out our housing situation.

I just looked them up, the closest Bekins (not Beekins) is in Dayton. Dunno if they'd accommodate us. But after all the shit I've gone through with Atlas, it's worth a shot. I just asked for a quote from them.

I'm fucking done with Atlas. The number in the email they sent me doesn't work, the number on their website doesn't work, and the 2 "local agents" won't pick up (to be fair it was after 6pm local time, but one of them was keeping me on hold even though it was obvious no one was there; the other one's 800 number didn't work, and they had a prerecorded message on the local one). If they are that incompetent at having fucking valid phone numbers on their website, how will they fare with carrying my shit?

Keep the suggestions coming.

We don't want to haul our own shit. We're bringing my husband's car and 3 cats over. Someone has to be there to watch the cats while the other person drives. And I REALLY don't want to have someone do the trip twice, or make my dad drive the Uhaul for us. My husband's employer has given us a very generous moving package that will more than cover movers.
