Resistance Discussion Thread

I am not great at FPS's, even though they are probably my favourite genre. But I found the single player if Resistance to be paced very well. Every now and then I thought it was starting to get easy, and within a level, it would up the difficulty. It seems it was paced perfect for me.

I have not played the demo, but from what I understand, it drops you into first battle which you see one of those mech spiders. That is a tough battle, don't be discouraged by it.

I found people online to be pretty damn good. That makes the huge maps a pain, because I die, respawn, march 10 miles across the map to instantly die again...

I was starting to get better, but quit, because I found it so annoying that almost nobody had headsets. I was an Xbox man last gen, so the lack of headsets turned me off. I haven't played in a month.

If you have a headsets, but not L337 skilz, then add me to your list: SnowSquirrel.

I haven't played any of the MP but I am enjoying the SP portion of this game.

The game is challenging (I'm playing on Medium difficulty) but not to the point where I want to throw my controller out the window.

The level "Path of Least Resistance" was definitely what I wanted out of this game. The indoor levels are a nice change of pace from what I've played so far. Overall though, am enjoying the big, outdoor battles a lot more.

Finally made it to the last level ("The Last Hope").

The combination of Steelheads and Advanced Hybrids is starting to get on my nerves.

Hopefully (if I don't die of frustration), I'll finish up this game soon.

EDIT: Wooooo. I beat the game. Medium difficulty was a challenge enough, I can't imagine it any harder. Last two levels were intense/annoying all at the same time.
So, how do we take a picture?
You need a keyboard.

You hit print screen and it saves to your photo folder on the xmb.
Makes me wonder if they'll go for video capture as well :whistle2:s
I dunno if there's a development tool added in the latests SDK to do that.

Anyway, this content sounds awesome. :D I definitely can't wait.

Btw Shini, we need to play some Resistance again sometime. ;) I'll be up for it ANYTIME.

yea dude, I haven't booted it up for a couple weeks now, in fact, I haven't booted up any console games for awhile. Everything has been portable.

First my DS with FFIII and Phoenix Wright, now comes Dracula X and Disgaea for the PSP, then it's back to DJ Max 2 since I can't use my saves from one PSP to another for that game >.>

Ahh, anyways, back on topic, I wonder how the Screenshot deal will work :whistle2:k

If we need to use a keyboard, we'll need one sitting next to us while fighting and hit the key as we go through? Sounds like they should be implementing full keyboard/mouse support next ;)

Yeah, the screenshot thing seems weird how it is done. I know the feature was added in the latest SDK, but I didn't think it needed to be that complicated. Oh well. :)

Yeah, I know what you mean on data transfer (on PSP), because one of my saves couldn't be moved to another PSP (it was Tekken DR I believe). Handhelds have been down for me, but most everything has due to projects and stuff.

I thought about that too... if you can take a picture you can make a video.. I definitely think it could happen. Im so surprised that almost a year later, they're adding more to the game... they should make the extra maps free.. or reduce their price.

Cool, I have all the tools to do that. Thank you.

It makes me wonder what's in store for Resistance 2 :bouncy:

I can't wait for that game :D

I still need to finish this game, I think I am about half way through it, but then all these other games came out so I haven't had time to play it. I am thinking about havin a friend over sometime and just going all night through the campaign on co-op.

I played some Resistance online with my friend and it was funny as hell. People were constantly trash talking and making fun of the little kids playing. One dude was just speaking random spanish and barking, yes barking like a dog. It was awesome.

I'm playing this through for the first time ever on medium difficulty. Single player is pretty interesting so far and i'm about 85% done i'd say (peeked at Gamefaqs guide to see). I tried online last weekend when I first got my PS3 and wow it sucked... I couldn't get into it for anything seemed really bland compared to shooters on 360. I wanted to like the online but i'm trading it in as soon as I beat single player. Glad I only gave $30 for it...

we have got to play this together, and take pics of each other fighting.
I hope that Warhawk gets this feature.

oh yeah to take the snapshot you have to press print screen on your keyboard.

Probably will get accused of being a fanboy but it seemed boring after playing Halo 3... Also CoD4 beta was awesome as well as Team Fortress 2. After playing those and then popping in Resistance I was disappointed. Maybe if I had played this when it first came out and let it grow on me it would have held up better. Single player was very well done and will definitely get the sequal.

All the games I played on Resistance were packed, 32-40 people each game. It was crazy. Everyone was killing everyone, super fast paced. I really enjoyed it. Of course I haven't gotten a chance to try out online on the 360 side so you're probably right.

Resistance is just one game, it compete with all the different experiences of CoD4, Halo 3 and Team Fortress... but was it the interact between players that was great, cause people don't hardly use mics on PS3. DId the 360 games play better online, or isjust you're preference. The point I'm trying to get at, is even though you prefer the 360 online, [which is fine] I just want to be able to say that PS3 offers at base, a similar service. Especially with Ressitance, cause you can see if you're buddies are online, you can send them invites, you can chat, and then there's 20 vs 20 online battles max. In halo there's vehicles, so that's an advantage there.

Can you resize those pics?

I get to play in the tournament tomorrow. Anyone else signed up for it? It is at GameSpot(Yeah, I know. Boo PS3 haters, blah blah blah blah). My teams last game was cancelled because not enough people showed up. I can't wait to get into the fray online.

The gameplay itself I prefer the other games I mentioned much more than Resistance. It's weird that most people don't have mics (including me) and I overlooked that since gameplay is what is important. I like Sonys online, i'm in no way bashing it, sure it could be better but then we'd be charged probably. Wait till CoD4 comes out on the PS3 everyone will move on to that the beta on 360 was awesome.

Finished the single player on medium a little bit ago. Great game and I can't wait for the sequal. :D

Really noob question, but if I'm playing a ranked team game, how do I make sure guys in my clan are also in the game on my team? I just created a clan and we're about to go play some team games, but I know when you do ranked it just randomly generates you. Any help would be great, thanks.

Create a party. You'll all join the same team in the same game. You can send out party invites to people in game.

When playing team does it send them automatically or do I send them? Like If I join a rank team match does my party list join at once too, since they are already in my party list, or do I have to invite them to the game each time? Sorry if this doesn't make sense, thanks for the help.

I think I know what you're saying.

Everyone in the party will join a game once the search finds a suitable ranked game for all of you to join.

I just beat the game on Easy. I attempted Normal but for some reason it was hard as hell. Playing easy was a challenge. Last couple of levels were intense. I liked the ending, can't wait to see what they do with Resistance 2.

Did you guys get a lot of the skill points? I don't know whether I'm going to play through campaign again. I might just do single levels to get as much skill points as possible.

Some questions about the story...

What was the deal with the Cloven? I don't think I fought them in the game. Are they going to wind up in Resistance 2 or what? I know in the intel they mentioned them several times but I'm kind of confused as to what they were/their purpose.

From the Wiki page:

The Cloven

The Cloven have not appeared in the story of Resistance: Fall of Man, but appear as an unlockable skin in the multiplayer mode. They are bald, pale-skinned humanoids in foreign military uniforms. In intelligence reports and on the official site, they are said to be maniacs who speak Russian, ritualistically mutilate themselves and their victims, and feed on the bodies of their own dead soldiers. They appear to be enemies of both the Chimera and the Euro-American forces, due to their hostility towards both. Despite this, they seem to be somehow connected to the Chimera, but in what way is unknown.

Information from Resistance's Map Pack 1 on the Official Website reports on a possible alliance between the Chimera and the Cloven. The Cloven were spotted ransacking Chimeran bases and encountering no resistance. It also reads in an intelligence report that the Cloven purposely lead the Chimera to York where the American soldiers would be landing, indicating York was a trap from the beginning. The equipment being taken by the Cloven is different than what has been seen in their possession so far. US forces speculate that the Cloven are stock piling Chimeran technology to be used against Allied forces. An encounter with the Cloven has shown that they now have weapons far stronger than anything witnessed from either side in combat. Whether the Cloven are in possession of advanced Chimeran technology or simply modifying existing Chimeran technology is unknown.

Hmm...interesting. Thanks for the info.
You need a keyboard.

So you can only use the keyboard for taking pictures, but not for controlling?

My co-worker just lent me his game and I just started playing it, but I just can't get into playing FPS with a controller.. I guess I'm used to kbd & mouse..

It takes some time to adapt, but it becomes natural after a while.

Remember that it also took time for you to learn to use the keyboard and mouse. I can still vaguely remember my switch from keyboard only shooting in Doom, Marathonm and even Quake, to using the keyboard and mouse.

OK I hit Print Screen on my keybored and then it's not saving screenshots or anything so I guess it's not working??

Insomniac has thrown up some new unlockables for the Cloven character online. ;)
Does anybody still play this game online?
I still play with my buddy quite a bit. It's still great fun.
I still play with my buddy quite a bit. It's still great fun.
Cool, I am trying to decide between this and Warhawk. I know Warhawk is probably more fun MP but this has a really cool looking SP.

Resistance SP starts off slow, but gets much better later.

I don't know, I personally would probably choose Resistance's MP over Warhawk. I'd say I had fun more consistently with Resistance. Also, I think Warhawk is more difficult to grasp, especially control-wise. That game needs some bots to practice on.

Resistance's party and voicechat system is much better, but it automatically finds you matches (for better or worse).

But regardless, both are great. I never did finish the SP in Resistance though, but I did like it. Resistance is just $40 this week at Best Buy (and there's a $10 off PS3 game coupon).

If you guys are still playing I'll add you to my buddy list. I play everyday and would love to finally play with some CAGs.

That is cool, I am gonna try to pick this game up for $30 at BB with that coupon today.
