ok so im sure some of you have read about my problems with bb online and my bank account. well tonight, where did i find myself? best buy!

now i have nothing against the b&m stores, but i couldnt resist doing this. while browsing for cheap games i heard a besy buy monkey trying to sell a green halo xbox hardcore. he claimed they were very rare, and everybody wants them because they're green (i kid you not) and they only get about 5 in at a time, and it takes 2 or 3 week to get them back.

now all this sounded like a ton of bullshit to me, so i stepped in by saying "i couldnt help but over hearing, and these xboxes are far from rare. they made 200,000 of them, and i usually see them in stock at this store" he claimed i was lying...whatever. i then told the mother (who had her kids with her) that she could buy it at gamestop.com and pay no tax, needless to say she didnt make a purchase at best buy tonight ^^

its pretty low, the sales tactic the guy was using, he was talking up the xbox in front of the kids to make it seem like they would never get one if they didnt get it now, and thus the kids would bug their parents and they would buy it.

hey best buy...wanna keep charging my card? maybe ill cost you some more sales ^^

punq you're taking them down from the inside... real sneaky like. Oh wait, what's that? BB just opened up 5 more stores as I typed this :)

Noiceness. I don't even need sales monkeys to convince me to bug my parents. Today I was whining for a NES GBA SP. Are those rare, or is that just bull thrown out by Big N?

Well they say the retro GBA SP is "limited edition", so interpret it as you like. But I'm with you punq, alot of times these parents really don't know much about what they're buying and neither does the kid they're buying it for. They are just easy prey for a sales guy to make some easy commish.

pung that sucks. Never heard of that. hmm. Glad i paid with the best buy credit card then. Speaking of back orders has anyones shipped yet? Mines still BOed

I say it is about as LE as the Platinum Gamecubes if that tell you anything.

Nice...especially if that Best Buy employee works on commission.
Speaking of back orders has anyones shipped yet? Mines still BOed
My backordered copy of Metal Arms (xbox) shipped today. Kinda weird...I ordered a copy last week (05/30/04) when it came back in stock..it was immediately put on backorder...I ordered another copy when it came back in stock this morning (06/05/04)...it was also put on backorder...a few hours after I got the backorder notice, I got confirmation that the order I made last night (06/05/04) shipped...funny thing is...my order from last week (05/30/04) is still backordered.

My stuff keeps geeting backordered after it comes in. They send me an email and say its backordered. Then they send a email saying it will ship in 21 days. Then another saying backeordered. I have got like 4 emails from them all the same events. What up wit dat?:

Stick it to the MAN!

I don't blame you for doing that. I did it around X-Mas time with a gamecube. I talked a lady out of buying one without the free Zelda disk. I told her the CC down the road had a ton in stock. This saved her from having to buy a game too.

Best Buy sales people are not and never have been paid on commission. I doubt this guy was lying just for lying or to make a sale. Doesn't it ever occur to anyone here that 99.7% of the gaming population doesn't know how many green Xbox's were made? Maybe the guy was told by their Microsoft rep that these things were rare.

You love to cry about conspiracies though, if you didn't no one would have anything good to post about.

i dont know if it was directed at me or not, so i wont get offensive but i know for a fact bb employees dont get commish. never claimed they did.

i dont know how educated the employee was, and i dont care, i cost best buy 170$ by causeing someone to buy from a competitor and i feel damn good about that

not sure what conspiracy youre talking about

pretty sure that commission comment was directed at me (missingdata's grammar friendly twin brother) since I brought it up and didn't know whether bb employees worked on commission or not.

The Play/Onyx GBAs were limited. The Gamestop I work at only recieved 2 shipments, for maybe like 16 total. We've gotten 12 NES GBAs, and i don't expect to get them back when they are gone. The Halo Xbox have come and gone, but a shipment we recieved the other day are the last numbers.

Funny how Flame GBASP is worth the most then, huh? Course now even that doesn't matter and it's the Gold and Lime Green.

The NES GBA's seem like the largest production of any "limited edition" GBASP. If you want rare check amazon.com constantly for the Gold verison.

They may not be on commission, but I believe they do get "spiffs" which are rewards from the manufacturer of certain items for each one they sell. I'm not saying that this was the case with the green X-box (probably not) but it's not like they are completely impartial or anything. They'll often try to recommend something just because they get a spiff.

that's hardcore man like when Herbert Kornfeld took that job at Office Max cuz the fools be steppin' on Midstate's turf

good thing you didn't lose tha H-cool and have to whip out the letta opener of death on the blue-shirted punk
Well they say the retro GBA SP is "limited edition", so interpret it as you like.
If i'm not mistaken, wasn't the platinum gamecube also called "limited ediition" at one point? They made a crap load of those. Look at the Zelda Collection disc. That was also supposed to be "limited" and they had it available for a LONG time at nintendopower.com. I think the unspoken rule of "limited" for Nintendo is to keep producing it as long as people are buying it. Its smart business to keep selling something that people are buying instead of just stopping production and increasing the value of those products for resellers.

I think when Nintendo says "limited edition" they mean to Earth. As for BB employees, they lie through their teeth, that's if you can get one to help you. I just act like I don't know anything and listen to their crap which I know is a lie. They stalk you in the game dept, I feel like a celebrity. I hate them because they ripped my dad off. He was there to buy a GC for my nephew and I wasn't around to help him so he just did it. When I got back he told me what the BB employee said. I immediately took the whole package back which was a system ,controller, memory card and like 5 games. When I returned the stuff the next day with a receipt they gave me all kinds of crap. I started yelling in the store which drew the attention of a manager. This was Christmas so I started telling everyone in line my story. Finally they gave me a refund. A nice GS employee got a good sale that afternoon.

I have stepped in on a ton of game sales and screwed BB without any guilt. Maybe if they didn't hire the most miserable people possible and that actually wanted to be working they wouldn't have so many problems. I think there half-ass computer dept. is the worst though.

That's kind of what I assumed, hence the "interpret as you like" remark. I think nowadays, the term limited edition or special edition has lost all meaning, atleast to me anyways.

Nice Punq, I have never had teh balls to do somehting like that. Especially in from of a sales clerk. Did he ask you to leave? Damn, thats so super hella sweet.

Limited means either there is a set number or set amount of time in which they can be produced.

if they were extremely they would also say they were numbered and sometimes will have a Cert. of authenticity.

Seriousy, people complain for years we dont get special edition consoles, and when we do, they arnt limited enough.

Do your self a favor...go puy some spraypaint and make your own "Limited Edition 1/1 " system.

...man im crabby in the morning.

The Best Buy I go to has morons working for it, there's one that always claims when someone mentions a Gamecube system, that it still comes with the Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition. Either it's his way of clearing out inventory(cause that's the store's lowest selling system right now) or he has no idea what he's talking about. But usually when I'm there I'll point it out to the customer and tell him that the deal was over 4 months ago and it would have a sticker on the box saying it comes with it.

the best way to get a best buy or CC employee to help u is to keep sayi2ng very loudly "ready to spend money.......wanna max out my credit card....sale iminent." then they come a runnin

If you guys want a good laugh, log onto bestbuy.comand fill out their online application. I was thinking baout working there sine they are down the street fromthe school I am going to, but after the first page of 20 on do you agree wiht this statement questions, I closed my browser.

Hey Punq, if BB sucks so bad why were you in there? Just to thwart business? And why would you push business to that crap fest which is Gamestop anyway? I suppose I am being a 'troll' but I just dont see any huge victory over anything here.

There was a %99.9 there was a good deal going on there.

Pung you rock! them bestbuy clerks don't know there ass from a hole in the wall. down with Bestbuy!!!!
lets keep the fight going!!!

I actually work at best buy, but I am a cashier and dont work in media. We dont recieve commision, and at my store we really dont get bonuses or anything like that. I know that personally if the people have a question about something i answer honestly, and have stopped a couple people from buying a few things. My manager actually likes this and says that I should be honest. I know before i worked there that the people at my BB were always very nice and honest with me. People must be YMMV

Way to go,Pung....
I know before i worked there that the people at my BB were always very nice and honest with me. People must be YMMV
You're lucky then. The employees at both BBs in town here are usually rude or overtly attentive. Every 5-10 seconds, "Can I help you find something?", "Did you want a cd wallet with that?", etc. The best is when they walk up and act like best buds n'shit! I hate that more then anything....
Nice Punq, I have never had teh balls to do somehting like that. Especially in from of a sales clerk. Did he ask you to leave? Damn, thats so super hella sweet.
I actually talked a customer out of buying an replacemant plan my supervisor was trying to sell at my checkout lane. He sent me home for the rest of my shift. Still remains one of my 2 favorite memories of working there, the other one being when i walked out during my shift. Funny how my best memories were of getting out of there early...

hey starman have you been to best buy within the past couple weeks? crazy deals go down there! i also stated i have NOTHING against b&m best buys, however, b&m and online are the same company, unlike eb, or gamestop or anything. its not a huge victory, i never claimed it was, im 100% sure someone bought that xbox by now, but i caused 1 person to buy a fairly expensive item from a bb competitor, and that is where the revenge lies

Yeah, I know they have good deals down there. But taking 'revenge' against someone you have NOTHING against seems pretty lame. I guess I just dont see what all the excitement is about. At least you understand that it probably didnt make much difference. (I would probably guess the kid didnt buy the thing at Gamestop either)

yeah, lol. i was at best buy yesterday looking for splinter cell for GC (the old one). its only 19.99 now. i asked if they had any in the back, becuase there were none out. this guy, about mabey 22 to 27 years old came back with one. i asked how much it was. he said it was 49.99. i told him that it was 19.99 everywhere else and he told me 9like he was talking to a gulible 4 year old who wants the new elmo game) that it was the greatest game ever and it was in fact 59.99 everywhere else. man i felt like destroying that guy. i felt like calling him a dumbass and wacking him over the head with the game but i had self control. i had to, cause last time something like this happened, well lets not get into detail.....

and starman......he was trying to help someone. that best buy employee was trying to take adavntage of someone who probably did not know anything about video games. not to mention the part where he waved it in front of the children like it was some kind of pretty shiny object that is untouchable.

I work at BB they we get no commission i work in what they call a game, movie, music rep. we get feed alot of horsesh*t and alot of the times what someone tells you on the floor is either one of two things hear say or what the can make up on the fly. thank god i know what i am talking about most of the time. a lot of my co-workers do this all the time like telling people that this is limited and they need it and it almost is out of stock i usally wait till they walk away and tell them the truth and often becuase of this website tell them where they can get something cheaper or with a bonus the worst place this happens at is toysrus they try to do it to me all the time. i was buying a new green 1st party licensed xbox controller. the rep their came up to me and tryed to push a mad catz on me cause it had a turbo button saying it was better and that cheaper

one of my methods of getting those crazy sales people away is to act like im that guy from the tv show good times......stare straight forward and after they say some to you, ya yell out DY-NO-MITE!!! keep staring forward, and sooner or later, they WILL walk away.

PS....remember to keep smiling:) ENJOY!!!

Hmm sounds like fun, maybe I'll have to try this today. Of course if you really want to go for the gold you can look right at them straight faced and yell "that's fucking fascinating" (Minus the inevitable shaqfu that will replace the real zinger of the line).

I have seen BB sales people try to push things as if they know what they are talking about, when in fact they don't have a clue. I can't stand when they do that just to push a sale out the door.

Personally when they come up to me I ignore them completely. I just keep looking and don't even acknowledge that they are there asking if I need help. HELLO, IF I NEEDED YOUR HELP I WOULD BE ASKING FOR IT!!!!

Yea, ill go out of my way most of the time if i hear some lies being spewed. Altought its hit and miss with having an honest employee, i dont blame bestbuy directly.

Altough during Christmas time, these old people came in wanting to buy their grandson a music player. The guy wanted to sell them an ipod, but not the 3gb or whatever small version..he said that wouldnt be enough space. He said they needed the 40 or else he would probably run out of room.... however i didnt say anything at this time, as after they saw the pricetag the couple changed their minds for themselves.
