Revolution to be hard to find at launch?

Do you folks think the revolution will be as difficult to get as the XBOX 360 and presumably the PS3 at launch?

I'd tend to believe that since the Revolution hardware is probably easier to produce and the fan base smaller that there won't be too many problems and everybody will be able to pick one up within a few months.

I hope so anyway.
 
It really will depend on the games that come out for it. If we only get two or three games at launch and they are straight niche titles, then I really doubt it'll be difficult to find it. Look at the top 10 games sold last year and you see what the public is buying - Big Name Franchises (like Madden). They don't buy smaller lesser-known titles in large enough numbers that put it into the top 10. So since it's pretty much confirmed that Revo is not getting typical ports like its console peers, I see it very unlikely that it'll be hard to find.

Of course, this is unless Nintendo seriously blows the world away at E3 and gets the hype machine started.
 
Well, we've already heard they're gonna have around 20 games at launch time, whether that strictly means on the day of the launch or in the launch period, so give or take a month or two.

But considering two-thirds of those will be third-party games, I think you will see a rather wide variety of offerings. I still don't think the Rev will be sold out for weeks on end, but then again, the hype machine hasn't even started yet, and there's still over 6 months to get people excited about it as their first or second console.
 
Not only will they not be sold out, but they'll be discounted since it's a gimmicky system(motion sensing control, lol, what's next, a touch screen?) that doesn't even support HD. I mean, wtf, seriously...

Well, with the 360, EB, GS, and GR all accepted more preorders than they had units, so that's no longer true. Not sure if GameCrazy had that problem.

The first people got their systems so be the first.

I think it really depends on Sony. If they release to that will have an effect for better or worse who knows.
 
I'm pretty convinced that preordering is a joke. Assuming I can afford it when it comes out, I just plan on lining up somewhere, or just going to WalMart or something at midnight and getting one.
 
Gamecrazy had the same issues other stores did. Preorder at a lesser known store such as FYE when they offer preorders. I preordered a 360 about a month before it came out at FYE and recieved mine at launch. It will sell out. of course, but perhaps not to the effect of the 360. Totally depends on the launch titles, the exact date they release it (if they release it close to XMAS, watch out as they will be sold out until after XMAS) and also what happens with the PS3. Just reserve one as soon as possible and you should be fine. If you decide you later dont want one or they cant get you one at launch, you can always cancel your reserve.
 
I don't think that there will be much trouble finding the Revolution at launch. Maybe if we were in Japan or something, but here in the States I'm expecting that you could pick one up the first day without too much effort.

That said, I'll be pre-ordering because that's simply what I do and I want to buy from a store I can use store credit at.

Didn't EB and GS give pre-order priority to those who pre-ordered using store credit for the 360?

The PS3 will not launch in 2006. I don't care what Sony says.

Yes, but if you are thinking of preordering at GR (as I am) you have to prepare for the possibility of the store having 10 "on order" 2 weeks after the launch date with no information as to if or when they might actually come in :D. I'm trying to decide if I should double preorder just to be safe (at EB as well as GR).
 
Nintendo has been manufacturing games since the 1800's. I think they might have the know how in the manufacturing side of things.

Yeah, the DS was easy to find anywhere you went when it launched.

On launch day, heck even launch week, it was perfectly reasonable to find. It was once it got a little closer to Christmas that it got impossible to find because it was on every kids wishlist.

I will probably be preordering at GR (depending on how much credit I happen to have lying around, compared to the total cost of the Rev) and either sitting outside a store (just because) unless I can't take a few hours off of work, or preordering elsewhere as well. So that means I will be preordering two places, since I won't know if I can sit out or not until probably the day before.
 
I hope you guys are being sarcastic about the DS availability when it launched. The Target I used to work at in phoenix got 40 in on launch day and were sold out within hours. It was like that across the valley here.

Hence it being sold for over $200 on Ebay.
 
The DS situation will probably be mimiced to some degree. Easy to find for a while, but people will need to buy SOMETHING when they cant buy a PS3. I think Nintendo is going to try really hard to have lots of units out there after seeing the 360 fiasco.

that may be the case, but if one was to put a preorder deposit down shortly after the store offers it, then you should be at the front of the list.
 
I think it will be easy to find. It is pretty much based on existing technology that they use for the Gamecube so I don't think manufacturing will be that tough... but I don't really know anything.

Oh and by the way, DS was easy to find in the New York area. There were a few in the glass case at Target that tempted me until I got my PSP. Still don't know if I made the right decision. I'm not jumping into this generation until at least 2007 and I'm hoping to hold out until the holiday of that year.

I think it'll depend more on demand than supply. Their blue waters strategy has definitely worked well with the DS, we'll see if it has the same success with the Revolution.

Don't assume that just because Nintendo's been making games and game systems forever, they'll have enough systems available at launch. Look at what has happened in Japan with the DS and DS Lite over the past few months. They couldn't even come close to launching enough DS Lites to meet demand at launch. Of course, the Japanese are a little crazy when it comes to gaming and the demand was extremely high, but it wasn't really Nintendo's best effort to try to meet demand.
 
Right? Look at some threads based on the Wii coming out within a month--people still believed it'd be somewhat on the easy to get one on launch day! I had a countdown thread and it was pretty big..and there were lots of "SHOULD I CAMP OUT?" questions, and most people believed "No, no you shouldn't" because Nintendo said they would have many shipped (which they did..just too many people wanted one!)

I camped and got one on launch. So glad I did! I STILL may not of had one by now!!
 
Yeah, and I'm glad I did what I thought I should do and preordered at EB as a backup for GR since GR, to this day, has not gotten one in yet. Of course, at the time I thought a preorder at EB would be easy. But even that required some quick action (finding out about it here right before then going early in the AM). But still, that was a bit before the hype *really* built up and camping became a prerequisite. If I hadn't gotten that preorder I may still not have one myself. I probably would have bought a PS3 in late December because I couldn't find a Wii - would have been just the opposite of what everyone (including me) thought would happen :rofl:.
 
I think we're just staring to see Wii's appearing "in the wild", I picked one up yesterday at Walmart, and was only just beaten to one at Target the night before.
Some guy bought 2, would it kill retailers to limit things in high demand to one per customer:bomb:

Woman at Walmart said they'd had 8, I guess they got their stock last weekend.
 
Waking up at 9:15 AM when Amazon was running their one day of preorders in September was the luckiest day of my life.
 
I narrowly missed getting one at a Midnight launched. Should have gone a bit earlier.

I did pick one up two weeks later at a Target. I got there at about 5:30 in the morning. That was cold! At least for California it was cold! First one there by the way!

Ok, now I just have to hear about this cold and what the temp was... I spent 4 hours in the 20 degree temps camping out for mine ;)
 
I missed it at midnight so I went across the street to Target and was number 6 in line. Up until about a week before launch I thought I would have no issue getting one just by getting there early but after the buzz started to build I decided to camp and glad I did I have still yet to see one in the wild . Also It was 34 and very windy

for those that don't know the revolution was the "code name" for the wii... whoknows seemed to be a bit confused by that at least.
 
I was at Best Buy on Tuesday and I caught the tail end of an exchange between a 'Blue Shirt' and a Minivan Mom, the former telling the latter "...yeah, they're gone as soon as we put 'em out." She walked away, obviously dejected and fatigued in her search. Given that this was right in front of the gaming section, 75% chance this was about the Wii, 20% the DS Lite, and 5% the PS3. Ha. Not really, as that last item was readily available, based on the basic-font sign that screamed "60GB PS3 BUNDLES* AVAILABLE!! JUST ASK!!" Or something.

Reading the overconfidence in this thread (pre-bump) is very vindicating. People will say the same things five years from now, too. It's just fun to watch the lack of learning transpire.

*--I don't know if they actually are ridiculously trying to push, you know, bundles on people still, or if it's just a wording choice issue. Pitiful and reprehensible if it's the former, totally careless if it's the latter. Saying there's a bundle when there's not ain't gonna help you move those things, guys.
