Rock Band 2, coming to Xbox 360 this September, everything else later
Yeah I think that the staggered release is absolutly BS. Yeah there are alot of 360s out on the market. But I bet that there the number of ps3s on the market are damn close. There only hurting themselves with this.
I won't be more than a couple months. Wii just got RB1 this month, man...
So, wait. You don't think that the 2.5 million seller (and DLC sales world champion) can co-exist with the 11-million seller? Don't see why not. It's not like RB is in dire straights here.

This will be the first time both RB and GH will be really directly competing, and I really don't think that price dropping the first one is the only way for RB to get a leg-up. I think it'd be smartest to wait until they've talked a bit more about the features of each game, before speculating much further.
Not quite. When I read "competitive coexistence," perhaps in my head I'm thinking of the ideal universe where games aren't competing on "our drums have SIX pads, HAHA! And we're going to cockblock your patch to let our guitar work with your game!" terms, but, rather, "Game X has these songs, game Y has these, which one do you want?"

As it stands, GHWT may have all the awesome in the world, but I probably won't pick it up unless it will work with my RB gear. Which it almost certainly won't.

My wifey wanted to play Bark at the Moon with me last night, rather than fire up my PS2 GH1, I went with Xbox360 GH2 and the downloaded song. No online play, the song doesn't play with GH3, 800 menu clicks to play or change level, and refused to work with my RockBand wireless guitar.

My wife said I should cancel my GH:Aerosmith order and just wait for the songs on RockBand.

Shame on you, Activision and GuitarHero-makers, you've lost your biggest fan. Your GH3 DLC stats are from the free song downloads, right? I certainly didn't buy any...

You win, Rock Band. Now, please ship me a lights-and-smoke set to Japan.

Lame that the PS3 version is being released later. I went with the PS3 version because when RB was released my 360 was being repaired by MS and I didn't want to drop the $170 on a game for a refurb system that I was not sure would last long.

Booooo EA, but Ill still pick it up along with the new guitar. EA's customer service for RB has been amazing for me. My guitar broke last month and even though I bought the game the day it came out they replaced it for free.

This seems too early for a sequel, especially with the DLC market. How much can they really add to the game to make it worth the money, without re-buying all the instruments?
Don't look at it as PS3 getting the game late, look at it as Xbox360 getting it early.
Also the PS3 version will almost certainly get a few new songs that aren't in the 360 version.

Don't be ridicuous.

My question is if there will be online quickplay compatibility between RB1 and RB2. I know alot of us will be getting RB2 right away, but what about our friends we play with online who are holding off and sticking with RB1 for the time being?
Don't look at it as PS3 getting the game late, look at it as Xbox360 getting it early.
That's so zen! If only the folks on the Rock Band forums were as optimistic.
Don't be ridicuous.
It's not ridiculous at all, since the Wii version of Rock Band got a few extra songs. In fact I would say there's a precedence for it.

Of course the bonus songs in the PS3 version will be up on the 360 marketplace the same day the PS3 version comes out, but PS3 owners wont have to pay extra for them.

Glad I never bought Rock Band yet. I could never get over how crappy the drums sound when you hit them. The drums are the only thing keeping me from buying it, make them quiet and I'm in. I'm really hoping that's one of the improvements to the instruments.

Does anybody know if Gamestop will buy back just a drum set? It would be nice if I could just buy the new drums, as the guitar looks to be almost identical. I would not be proud of myself for owning 2 plastic drum sets...

I think that was more to make up for the fact that the Wii version won't have any DLC at all (and will instead have the disc-based Track Packs), and is crippled in ways even worse than the PS2 version (such as the way it doesn't even have real-time backgrounds, this time, but just uses poor-quality videos taken from the next-gen versions), and Wii people still had to wait all these months for it.

But since the 360 and PS3 versions will be identical, and only a couple months apart at the most, I don't think there is as much apologizing that needs to be done there. And again, this isn't punishing PS3 owners; it's rewarding 360 owners for buying more copies of the game than all three other versions combined. I just don't see why they would feel the need to commit to any sort of apologetics to the PS3 crowd.

I think the Wii and PS2 versions are pretty much identical.

A few tracks have been leaked. The source is from a preview of the game on G4, which had a split-second view of the song selection screen. Here's the pic:
0701082009jo7vw9.jpg

[Unknown] - Panic Attack
System of a Down - Chop Suey
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Give It Away
Foo Fighters - Everlong
Kim Wilde - Kids in America
Motorhead - Ace of Spades
Cheap Trick - Hello There
Journey - Any Way You Want It
The Who - Pinball Wizard
Boston - More Than a Feeling
Blink 182 - All the Small Things
The Blink and Boston song are just DLC from RB1
I know. There is speculation about whether that's just the menu showing the universal DLC, or if those songs are on the disc this time. Either is possible.

Well if you look at the screen you can see a "2" next to all the songs besides those two songs that we know are DLC. Next to those is a little "x".

So if I had to guess I'd say they're just DLC and not on the disc.

I see in the interface they finally lay out difficulty ratings for each of the different instruments. It's really something that should have been in the first game.

They have that in the first game, but it may be something that you can only view in the Rock Band Store.

Some big rumors just surfaced:

Xbox360.IGN.com editor Nate Ahearn had this to say in a discussion on GHWT vs Rock Band 2:

Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero World Tour create an interesting situation for gamers If you bought Rock Band 1 then chances are you’ll feel cheated by the release of RB2, thus you’d think that GHWT would be the way to go as it somewhat redefines the music gaming genre. However, if you didn’t buy the first Rock Band then I would absolutely agree with notagoth. Immediately upon purchasing Rock Band 2 you’ll have the ability to download a huge library of songs, as well as all of the songs off of the original disc as a free download. Then again, Guitar Hero World Tour does allow users to create and share their own songs, so it’s really only a matter of time until the Rock Band library is eclipsed. At the end of the day it could come down to which series has earned your allegiance over the last year since RB’s original release.

On Wikipedia, there is claims of a playtester who has played the game, and posted as many tracks as he could remember, which is a pretty good amount. Some thoughts after the list:

That would be amazing if you could download all the old songs but I'll have to remain skeptical for now. Theres about 60 songs and they're just going to give it away? Come on.. thats money to be made.

I agree - they would basically be throwing money away.

I think it would more sense if they had something like this.

Put up something in the Rock Band Store, so when you boot up your copy of Rock Band 1, it gives you a unique code. Then you can take that code and put it into PSN and download all the tracks.

Because, I just don't think they are gonna give it away for free. Why the hell would anyone buy the original then?

Duran Duran?

fuck yes.

Seriously... if that list is real, I'm EXTREMELY happy on so many different levels. :)

It really doesn't make any sense for them to do it in any way, because you could just borrow/resell your RB1.

I don't have a quote or source at the moment, but another IGN editor corrected the guy talking about RB1 songs being a free download for RB2 and pretty much said he has no idea what he's talking about.

It's up in the air, like online BWT was for RB1; Harmonix is said to be working on a way to make it work, but I wouldn't hold my breath at this point.

Nevermind, had some time and found the correction- http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=60786&page=2

I hope everyone's taking these "leaked" tracklists with a grain of salt, because aside from those couple screenshots earlier in the week, there's NO confirmation of any of these songs from a legitimate source.

That being said, I do hope Harmonix shows off the entire tracklist at E3 in a couple weeks, so I can start making myself an iPod tracklist.

so many great games coming out this Fall! I'm only getting the game since i already have the set from RB1+2 GH guitars. I really like the idea of playing the DLC from RB1! I'm sold...enough said.

Can't wait for RB2, definitely going to pick this up day one :) I don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but according to Gamestop.com (not very reliable, I know ) the bundle will be in October, while the RB 2 disc alone is in September. I am just going to get the disc, as I do not mind the RB 1 drums. The setlist also looks very solid...
I just hope they have My Chemical Romance DLC.... I REALLY want Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge :D, of course, I'm sure there will be people that will completely bash this thought
I am the only person who the world who's eyes lit up when they read "Panic at the Disco".
In a good way or bad way? I really like the idea of them being in the game, but I wouldn't mind seeing stuff from their first album, as opposed to their second :) Of course, Nine in the Afternoon was one of the only decent songs on Pretty.Odd.
