Salty I need to re-do my profile in CAG4.0
As the original deal morphed into a game deal and guitar advice thread, I decided to place the original BB deal behind spoiler tags for a reference point. And I listed the current deals below. The guitar purchase is the most difficult part for us beginners, so read the advice in the thread

Too busy to read the entire thread? Then try these following posts for the guitar advice. Thanks to SmileyMcSmiles for all the help :applause:

Guitar+Bass Version*****

Original Version*****

Original DEAL behind this Spoiler
Bestbuy has a separate, two week flier for music gear and they're advertising Rocksmith game bundle+ Epiphone guitar for $199.98 and you get a $50 giftcard with purchase of the game/guitar bundle.

Ad is a bit odd in that they only list sku's for the game bundle and standalone guitar (#2633103, 2633149, 2273055), so they may be doing in-store bundling. Plus they list the game + guitar bundle as a 10 savings over buying everything separate

I'll let the musician CAGs speak to the quality of the guitar;)

UPDATE: Bestbuy finally got the site updated with the offer.
Link Dead
Like I said before, seems like they are doing an in-store bundle instead of selling the official Rocksmith guitar kit. Won't know for sure until it's bought

UPDATE #2: deal is definitely an in-store bundle of standalone guitar + game bundle. Guitar is an Epiphone LP jr with a cherryburst finish and no strap or picks are included. Asked about substituting a different guitar model but bundle price won't activate if you switch it out

Sorry if this has been asked and answered somewhere in the prior pages, but quick question. If I own Rocksmith 2014 on both the 360 and the One, and I've already done the import, and now I want to buy more DLC, can I buy it on one platform and get it on both? If I buy it on the 360, do I also get it on the One? Thanks.

Also, Volbeat is freaking awesome.
Yes

DLC carries from last to current gen, not vice versa though.

I got an order confirmation (not shipping confirmation) for the Bugera so fingers crossed. Couldn't find it at zzounds or Sam Ash or I might have tried to price match it there. As for the guy putting me on the wait list, I was not only the first one but I let him talk me into the protection plan for an extra $10. Maybe that was the extra push he needed

Backorder notice...
Normally that wouldn't bother me but even though they say there are more on order, I don't think there are. I got a very similar email from guitar center for me les Paul studio that ultimately got cancelled. Their product page now shows "item unavailable"

Has anybody 1000/1000 GS on the original rocksmith? I've completed 1000gs on 2014 twice now (360 & the one). But still cannot get them all on the original game. Need the achievements for super ducks, baseball, super slider, and dawn of the chorded. Every once in a while I revisit them thinking I should be good enough by now and every time I get shut down. Are they that hard or am I still that bad?

Super Ducks and Dawn of the Chordead are the two big ones I'm missing from OG Rocksmith.  I apparently need the two guitar & singing cheevos too.  Weird, cuz I know I've done that... guess it wasn't under my profile.

So that's 4 I'm missing and I'm missing 4 of the Bass cheevos too.

On the X1, I haven't really tried.  Rarely bother with that version and usually fire up the 360 copy. Guess I still think of my 360 as the Rocksmith machine (sorta how my parents always called all my gaming consoles Nintendo machines  ).

And only have about 15 cheevos on RS2014.  Work and life originally got in the way, then Mario Kart & Destiny did the rest :whistle2:#

I played for an hour or so tonight just messing around with songs I like. Took "High and Dry" to 94% on the 4th play through. I love that song. Such a nice, easy solo. Just a lot of fun to play. I also really like "On the Road Again". Such a recognizable solo... Also played "Second Chance" and "Creep" a few times just to work on arpeggios and toughen my fingers back up. Haven't played in a full week or more...

You know what my guitar said, Frosty? It said "Thank you for playing me!" Your guitars are sooooo lonely. ;)

Agreed on High and Dry. Lovely song. I feel like I too have not shown my guitars much love lately  work eats up all my time and then it's off on dates on the weekends.

Even when I do play, I don't give my other axes much love. I tend to play my Mexican Tele all the time. I keep a Strat at Eb, but I haven't played it in months. Just too many E standard songs that I like.

Skynyrd 3 pack:
Gimme Three Steps
Tuesday's Gone
Call Me the Breeze

All in E standard.

Got my amp Monday. Damn thing weighs 100 pounds. Nearly threw my back out moving it. It's as big as a side table. I have to figure out how to get it home and hide it. In my 1000 Square Foot house. And I won't be able to play it at any higher than 1/16 of 1 or it'll rattle the walls.

Hide it in a cardboard box and write books&magazines on the outside. No one's gonna wanna move it cuz it's heavy and they sure won't open it cuz who reads in this day and age ;)

I picked up a wireless transmitter/receiver from someone on facebook the last night for $10.  It's odd, because the receiver is branded Digital Reference DR-R22 (DR-2000 series), but the tag on the under side is Audio Technica ATW-R700.  The transmitter is a rebranded ATW-T701.

I tested it on a few songs and it works great with my bass with no interference.  It's so nice to not be tethered to the computer.

I'm not supposed to buy books anymore even though I do. A while ago I was headed to my favorite thrift store and told her that I'd probably come home with some books. The conversation that followed went something like "No more books"!
"But I have a thirst for knowledge"
"We don't have room for your knowledge"!

She didn't bat an eyelid at the amp, even helped hold the box while I lifted it out. I definitely would have been worse off lugging in a giant box labeled books

Then again, I do have a dedicated music room and the books go in "her" office.

Same one I have Sp00ge. That was a good deal. I love using the wireless. Of course, the transmitter for my XP400s died, so in isonggwires TB headphones now, but the wireless guitar is nice...

Queen - Another One Bites the Dust

Queensryche - Silent Lucidity

Stevie Wonder - Sir Duke

The Toadies - Possum Kingdom

and one more song yet to be announced. Has something to do with "royalty" again as the title or artist. Really interesting pack. Definitely in for some of these.

I went ahead and got 1, worst case scenario it's a 30 day return policy

Any suggestions on where to get a second cable?

Last edited by a moderator:
So from the research I did today it looks like best bet on a cable is still 29.99 on amazon unless I get lucky on Ebay.  Really bummed considering I think I got the whole game package for about 40.  Wish I could GCU it!

Yeah, the Rocksmith cables have never really gone on sale.  And they can be hard to find in general.

Best option continues to be finding one of the old bundles for cheap... either the original release of RS or the bass expansion of RS.  Those are the oldest bundle versions that can be found for 10-20 bucks.

You also want to avoid picking up a used cable since it's more likely to be fried.

My Monoprice flying V came in today.  First thing I notice, a hairline crack where the neck is attached to the body.  I'm already probably going to return based on that, but I may just ask for a refund over an exchange.  This may be setup related but I am noticing a bunch of rattle with the strings hitting the other frets when I play.  Overall I am having a much harder time with it than my first guitar I picked up.

Do you think I should take it to my local guitar center to look at?  Or will they just say nah since I didn't purchase it through them

It's a cheap guitar. Getting the neck adjusted correctly and setting intonation is probably going to be near impossible. Take it to guitar center if you want to get laughed out the door. I'm not judging you but they will. They're too busy taking all of grandma's money for little jimmy's first guitar.

If you want to have it looked at, find someone on craigslist that gives lessons. Call them up and get real advice on who to go to for honest guitar repair.

My advice is to return the guitar and save up for a better guitar.

Fair enough.  I had good luck with my epiphone les paul special 2 for a similar price, so I figured I would give these guys a shot as they actually had fairly good reviews.  I am going to do a return though, I am just not happy with the product.  Makes me sad cause I really do like the style

Kinda sounds like they're riding on the reviews for the initial batch of guitars they ever sold.

Those were considered a good deal for the fit, finish and price.  The 2nd gen versions of the same guitars got stripped down a bit, but were still fine.  Guess they really cut back on the quality.

Ok dumb question 2 for the day. Got some ps gold headphones today, and couldn't play with them on. Do I just need to fiddle with the latency some or is headphone play just a bad idea

PS4 has an option to redirect game audio thru your tv speakers or headphones. That may be the problem you're having

Or will they just say nah since I didn't purchase it through them
That was a questionable purchase my friend. Beware of cheap wares like this.

Their strat models have been reviewed incredibly high, and the one I have I got re-stringed and tuned up by a co-worker who plays in a local, mildly well-known band, and he was raving over the quality and said he thought a guitar like that should sell for $3-400. Maybe the CAGs was a dud, but I've been really happy with mine. Run it through Rocksmith, through an amp I bought. Plays great, sounds great (or at least as good as my limited skill can make it sound) and I'll probably end up buying another one down the road.

Just on a hunch...you did take off BOTH layers of protective plastic off the guitar, right? I thought mine had a crack, then I realized there were two sheets of plastic over it, at different angles. I was worried for a second, then felt like a dumbass when I realized I just didn't unpack it the rest of the way.

Pretty sure I had all the plastic wrap off. This was a pretty obvious crack though, small but my understanding is a lot of pressure is put there so it would probably expand. I sent pics to Monoprice so they could confirm it and they are gonna refund the guitar

What did you pay for the guitar? I know this is CAG, but the difference between a $99 whatever and $300 Squier or Peavey can be pretty huge. Personally, I ended up going with a $250 Squier, made in Indo, and it holds tune almost as well as a Mexican Fender. No bad connections to worry about, decent pickups, all the hardware in the right place and the guitar just feels good.

In short, buying a super cheap guitar is a false economy. They only exist because so many people pick up the instrument, decide its too hard and move on. If you are serious about playing, give it a genuine shot and don't buy complete shit. I am not saying buy a $600+ Fender, but at least buy something from kids who know how to put together a real instrument.

This would have been my 2nd guitar, i have an epiphone les paul special ii that im actually very happy with. Ive heard other people had good luck with the monoprice guitars so maybe im just dumb but i thought it sounded bleck. No worries though its just 84$ ill put towards a different guitar :)

FNM ruled, go see them if you get the chance...I wasnt sure it would live up to my memories of the show in 1993...but it might have been even better.

Getting this dlc for sure.

Sorry to thread hijack, and I assume this has been covered before.

Can anyone tell me why game stop doesn't accept rocksmith trade ins? I have a copy of rs2014 for 360 that has been returned to me twice because the buyer stated it was defective. It's technically not, I've passed a hard drive disc install several times. There seems to be issues with the the game itself and not the disc.

Gamestop told me they don't accept trade-ins of RS and bandfuse because they require the cable to play and they have no way to verify if the cables work. Not sure how that applies to disc only versions, seeing as they sell disc only versions new now. I can maybe see how this could have been the case back when the first game launched but it doesn't make sense anymore
