Bestbuy has a separate, two week flier for music gear and they're advertising Rocksmith game bundle+ Epiphone guitar for $199.98 and you get a $50 giftcard with purchase of the game/guitar bundle.

Ad is a bit odd in that they only list sku's for the game bundle and standalone guitar (#2633103, 2633149, 2273055), so they may be doing in-store bundling. Plus they list the game + guitar bundle as a 10 savings over buying everything separate

Thanks. I picked up some picks. I use Jazz III ($2) and Fender Tortoise ($1) picks and both are on sale. I also ordered some acoustic Elixirs, a set of EXP17s & some of the EB Classic RnR 9s. The Elixirs are a steal at that price. I have my semi-hollow strung with 9's. They give it a nice twang I picked up some of the System 65 Fret board conditioner too. I ordered my friend some of the EB Bass strings that were $5. Those were canceled though. Best Buy has most of this stuff listed on Ebay for the same price. Some of the Ebay listings offer free shipping. I purchased everything through BBY because I have Elite Status and I receive free expedited shipping.

I'm still struggling to nail those down as well, I can't find a comfortable or natural position to use.

On another note, I'm dying to get RS 2014, I could use some new songs for my setlists and I've heard its teaching mechanics are far superior than the originals and I'm losing motivation. But unfortunately, I'm stuck waiting for the price to go down a bit. Gamestop doesn't have any used copies and neither does anyone else that I can find. Black friday, maybe?...

Am I crazy or am I the only one that has trouble with palm mutes? I finally figure out how to do them but I find it hard to transition into them. For some reason I had a hell of a time figuring out that the bridge was at the very end and not that middle part.

I have trouble as well, but have had lots of luck (maybe suddenly getting over the hump?) play the Velvet Revolver song "Slither" from the Original Rocksmith. Have you played that one yet? Most of the mutes are on the Low E and A strings. It's been good practice.

You should be buying that RS2014 and Duo Sonic guitar right now. Set it for pick up at store. Ship it to your mom. Whatever... That is an insane deal on the game and a not so starter guitar. That guitar would be a pleasure to learn on.

It caught my attention when BB first started the in-store clearance. Got a chance to mess with it some and liked it. But hated the 230 price tag for a floor model.

Did more research (cough "YOUTUBE" cough) and came to like it more. Already have some awesome humbucker guitars so this would fill a void. Plus it's got some of that Mustang look to it, which I dig.

Well this really sucks.. after over 5 years, my 360 finally succumbed to the RRoD. I just fired it up earlier today to get some jamming in and BAM! Denied.

I'm really not sure what to do now. I could try that lame towel trick but I've heard it's not permanent at all and will end up causing more harm than good. I could scope out a BF deal on another 360 but I really would rather not spend the money. I think GS has the old model "used" for $100 on BF. Best deal I've found yet but that's $100 I'd rather not put towards another 360 since I'm going to purchase an X1 in the winter. My plan was always to keep my 360 alongside the X1 just to play some GTA V occasionally and of course RS2014, but now it feels like it has to be either or.

Yeah. I haven't been able to order any games to be sent here in a year, because it says "The shipping method youve selected is not available for the following item:" when I try to check out. I've ordered movies though, blus and DVDs. And my address is absolutely correct and matches their APO Shipping Guidelines/Suggestions. CS agents over the phone can't help me and I just get canned responses by email copy/pasting the same guidelines I tell them I am following. Pretty frustrating that their information says "We ship almost everything to APOs, minus a few select things. Here is how to enter your address correctly" and then I can't place an order with them. I left a post today on the BB Unboxed forums or whatever they are called saying that the only thing I can really use their site for is finding deals, copying and pasting those deals into Amazon's "Tell Us About a Lower Price" form, and hoping it gets PMd.

For a while I was buying games to be sent to my apartment, but paying sales tax, paying shipping (the cost of my wife packaging it up and sending it here), and then the effort by my wife to go out and mail me games doesn't seem like an option anymore for me. Not when they should be sending me stuff directly.

You should be buying that RS2014 and Duo Sonic guitar right now. Set it for pick up at store. Ship it to your mom. Whatever... That is an insane deal on the game and a not so starter guitar. That guitar would be a pleasure to learn on.

I thought about placing an order to my apartment and the game/guitar being there when I get back in March or so, but I don't know. I got myself really hyped up to start learning right now. I kind of feel like if I am going to wait that long, maybe I should wait to buy one too. I almost bought one of the Jackson JS32 Rhoads Vs around this time last year when everywhere had them for super-cheap...maybe something like that will come around again.

I do like that Duo Sonic though. I was just trying to get one of the Maestro bundles actually. I figured that $25 for the guitar (I have $25 in RZ certs) was not bad at all for something that I could get the basics learned on. Plus, the arctic climate up here near the North Pole is supposed to be terrible on guitars. My room isn't that bad as far as temperature goes, I keep it kind of cool but can keep it controlled. It is extremely dry though, so dry. That is what gave me pause last year when I was looking. I love the Rhoads Vs and I thought 'I don't know if I want to buy this and then have it start cracking and stuff on me, that would suck.' I would not really mind that happening to a $25 guitar though.

But it's moot anyway. Can't buy one.

I started it up, tuned it, and played a couple of songs badly. The next day when I started the game to play a song it had me go through tunning again, but it's acting screwy. It doesn't recognize when I'm hitting the required string, but does recognize other-incorrect strings. No tightening or loosening has any effect. I looked at several guitar diagrams to make sure I'm not just crazy and was reading the screen upside down but I'm not. Anyone have this happen, ever? It's like the guitar/game forgot which strings are which...

Is it just the one string? The only time I've ever had that happen was with a bad string, right before it broke. It would not tune for anything, and then *plink!*. A new set of strings and it was just dandy again.

Speaking of strings, mine still haven't shipped from BBY. My "good" bass is still sitting out, forcing me to use my ghetto Frankenbass (sunfaded JB Player with ill-fitting pick guard and mismatched adjusters). It's buzzy, looks like hell, but at least it stays in tune.

UPDATE: I just got a shipped email from Best Buy, but the UPS Tracking number says they were shipped last Wednesday via 2nd Day Air and should be here today... :/

Helps to know which system you're playing on: 360, ps3, windows, mac.

Are you getting any sound thru into the game when you play the strings? I remember the PC version had issues where you would hafta unplug and plug-in the cable while the game was running.

But here are some things I would try for now.

1- Disconnect the RS cable and reconnect it before firing up the game. Make sure all connections are seated properly, including the little end piece (USB side of cable)

2- if you have your own tuner (not the in-game one), use that to tune the guitar, then hop into the game

3- Recalibrate your guitar in game. Don't remember the exact menu prompts, but go in & calibrate again (it's the option where you make a bunch of noise, then mute the strings so there's no noise)

EDIT

4-oh and make sure the volume knob is cranked all the way up on the guitar. That's a real easy one to overlook since it's sooo simple to turn down w/out noticing.

Yeah, BBY has been having issues, for sure. Last week, I placed two different orders for in-store pickup. One went through no problem and I received the ready for pickup notice. The other went through, but I never received a ready for pickup email. After a few days, I decided to check my orders online and it was listed as being ready for pickup... Hassles, maybe, but for the price, I really can't complain.

My strings just showed up a little while ago and what an improvement! I should've ordered a few extra sets.

I bought the game when it was on sale at BB for like 25 bucks. I then went and found a basic, cheap electric guitar and amp for about $100. I haven't had any problems with this setup. Sure, the guitar doesn't sound great with the tiny amp that came with it, but it is more than adequate for the digital processing of the 360. I do wish the game had more of a "teaching" mode and less focus on just playing individual songs, but I guess playing songs is what most people want a guitar for anyway, lol.

A-men brother. Bring on the classics. I also would really like it if they didn't completely ignore the blues genre. We have 3 blues tracks (all DLC) and that's it. The 2 songs from the original game (Cream and Clapton) don't even carry over. It's a damn shame. They could do so well with a Stevie Ray Vaughn pack or a full BB King pack, or even some older stuff like Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, Bo Diddley, or some Buddy Guy. That's the kind of stuff I wanna learn to play.

Tough call.. they're both pretty low-end guitars similar in price. I would normally go with the Epiphone but it looks like what you have is a Strat clone, and not a very good one at that. I think the Ibanez is slightly better. I would probably trade if I were you (unless there's something wrong with his guitar and that's why he wants to trade). Be wary of that. Why exactly is he trying to trade you?

After some googling, I found them to be fairly comparable price-wise. I found the Ibanez at guitar center used for $99 here: http://m.guitarcenter.com/Item/Default.aspx?itemno=3010709&urx=1
The consensus seems to be $100 to maybe 150 in excellent condition for the Epiphone (btw, it's not a gibson. Epiphone is owned by, but not made by, gibson)

I guess the question then becomes: how much do you like your guitar? For me, I think I'd take the ibanez and invest in a MiM (or better) Fender Strat to replace your Epiphone when you've got the money. A MiM Strat can often be found for around $200-250 used

You should be able to get a better guitar if you go the separate route. Bestbuy.com had some choices going at launch. And there should be more opportunities coming up around the holidays.

But wouldn't be bad if you found one of those old Rocksmith guitar bundles @ Sams Club; has the game+cable+guitar for $50, just SUPER YMMV

And you've got a few options to get started on the game.

Rocksmith 2014 is worth every penny IMO.

But you could always start with the old version of the game (gone as low as 8 per copy new), work on it for a bit, then buy RS2014 when it hits a sale (keep an eye out around BlackFriday). This works out since you'll now have a copy of the old game which you can import into RS2014 for an additional 10bucks.

Plus check in to the thread every now & then as we try to also post guitar deals we find.

I'd like to see a little more blues as well. I'd also like to see a Sun pack w/ Presley, Perkins & Cash. Throw in some tracks from Cochran, Holly, Haley & Berry & I'd be ecstatic. Now that the 50s are covered go ahead and throw in The Who, The Doors, The Beatles, The Hollies, TDC5, Pink Floyd & a proper The Rolling Stones pack. I'm sure The Beatles will not appear any time soon on another platfiorm. Apparently, Harmonix had to pay $40 million for the rights to use The Beatles' tracks in the Rock Band Game.

Well I know there was some hubbub awhile back regarding Pink Floyd music on iTunes. I think the the gist of it was that they didn't want their songs being sold one at a time since the albums are more of an experience. There could be a similar attitude toward music games. Led Zeppelin, I just don't know. I think they just hate money (do a reunion tour, goddammit!).
