Bestbuy has a separate, two week flier for music gear and they're advertising Rocksmith game bundle+ Epiphone guitar for $199.98 and you get a $50 giftcard with purchase of the game/guitar bundle.

Ad is a bit odd in that they only list sku's for the game bundle and standalone guitar (#2633103, 2633149, 2273055), so they may be doing in-store bundling. Plus they list the game + guitar bundle as a 10 savings over buying everything separate

Plays like a uke if you ignore the 2 low strings. But incorporate all the strings and it's like playing a guitar capo'd at the 5th fret.

I slept on the deals last year where they were $150 w/gig bag and have regretted not getting one this whole time. It looks like those won't come back down in price though. The best I can find anywhere is $250. I would be content with an ESP Alexi Laiho 200, but those have gone up as well.

I'll keep waiting I suppose; there is bound to be a new cheap RR or Alexi model coming out at some point down the line.

I tried to fit it in my Acoustic ABS case, but the case was about 2 inches too short. It fit snug at the lower and upper bout and there was enough clearance room. I ordered this case from Musician's Friend. I took measurements of the git & the case I currently have. The MF case is larger on all fronts. I figured since the cases are so cheap right now it was worth a shot. I'll let you know if it works out.

If you have the old RS and buy the new one, for $10, you can export the old songs to the new one (all except for 5 songs).

The pic and description (aside from one small blurb) show 1xMale -> 2xFemale, but it's actually the other way around.  Mine just showed up today and I'm disappointed.  I thought that they may have sent the wrong one, but the part number on the package matches the online page.

I tried to fit it in my Acoustic ABS case, but the case was about 2 inches too short. It fit snug at the lower and upper bout and there was enough clearance room. I ordered this case from Musician's Friend. I took measurements of the git & the case I currently have. The MF case is larger on all fronts. I figured since the cases are so cheap right now it was worth a shot. I'll let you know if it works out.

Damn those tweed ones are slick. Almost makes me wanna take a chance on one for my POS acoustic, but then I'd have a case that cost twice as much as the guitar

A long time ago I picked up the Vendetta XMT on the recommendation of this thread. It's served me well up to this point but I've been itching to play on something better so I picked up that Ibanez RG421 that rbarba4 linked to. Hopefully it will feel a little nicer than that Dean.

I bought mine on thanksgiving for $40 from amazon and fumed a little when I saw this. So I jumped on the phone with them before it sold out and nicely asked for a price adjustment seeing how it's been only 5 days. They happily refunded me a credit for $7 back to my card (but wouldn't refund the tax on the $7; weird. Also, stupid tax in AZ now). Despite what I read on the good ole internets, she said this was an exception not a rule and that they only price match TVs so ymmv if you bought it recently from them and want some money back.

Anyhow I finally got to spend a couple hours with the game last night and I absolutely love it so far. Luckily after about three hours it finally froze up on my. Good thing it did or I might have never gone to bed. I think I'll reinvest my $7 into some dlc songs. Already bought the smashing pumpkins pack and the standalone song last night and couldn't be happier. I think I'll probably put my new found funds toward the iron maiden pack that I almost got last night

Out of the original 2014 DLC, I only bought "Ho Hey". That's a fun little song to play. The lead parts are easy, but cool little riffs. I did buy some Green Day and a Radiohead song ("Creep"). I'll probably get some Who songs today.

The only real complaint I have against 2014, at this point, is that there are TOO MANY tunings. I get tired of changing all the time, so I mostly just play E Standard or Drop D stuff. I just need to use one of my Strats or Teles as a Drop Db whatever tuning to play Nirvana and AiC.

Good to see some of you upgrading your axes a little. New axes rule!

Rbarba4 - I love that Swingster. I've kind of been on the lookout for a Gretsch hollowbody. Maybe one day.

I know one thing - next year, I am saving up for the Gibson clearance and buying something the first day next December. Those deals were great, but they were gone VERY quickly.

Loving this game so far as much as the first. I'm getting a bass for Xmas so I'll be working on those challenges instead of playing emulated bass with my guitar.

Everyone was "afraid of the baked maple fretboards". I didn't give a flyin' and grabbed a silverburst Firebird and been very happy with it. And once I saw the 2013 lineup, I made sure to hunt down a 60's LP in worn white (wasn't feeling the changes with the 2013 models). If I could have, I would have bought the LP junior and the Midtown as well.

Deals on those were also better since you could PM against the other companies and usually save another $50 off the sale price. This year, not so much

Saw the 2014 stuff and the new melody maker has already caught my eye. They're listing it at sub-600. I'll be all over it should it clearance at half off.

That's why I'm SO happy that I got to experience the Best Buy Clearance spectacular... Now all of these prices seem so... pedestrian. I can't talk myself into them.. I passed this same guitar up at $450, so why would I pay $750 now?

Of course, eventually, I'll get the bug again, but for now I am very happy. Especially since my $203 Les Paul Ultra III has been out of the case exactly twice.

The cool thing about Rocksmith is that it really doesn't matter how you play the game or what you focus on. As long as you're putting in the time, you're building muscle memory and improving on skills. Some people here will swear by sticking to one song for a while, but I say there's nothing wrong in a little variety. It lets you experiment more and try newer things. This game isn't about learning a song and calling it a day, it's about learning the underlying techniques to help you play any song.

Also, hit up the guitarcade as much as possible to learn new techniques that will become useful as you progress. I say just put in the time/effort and you should be fine, no matter what you do.

Really can't go wrong with the Epiphone Les Paul Jr. It's a nice solid guitar that is also the pack-in guitar for the full blown Rocksmith bundle (the $200 bundle option). If you have access to Sams Club, you can check to see if they still have any of last years bundle since they were getting cleared out at $50.

If that's not available then I'd say go for the Dean Vendetta Xmt. It's about 100 and can be had for less if you catch the right sale. You'll see that recommended alot since it's a low cost model that is built pretty well and is more versatile than the Epi Les Paul Jr.

They're both good choices for Rocksmith since the game is gonna handle the majority of the sound effects... it's just that the Vendetta gives you more options should you find that you enjoy playing guitar in general.

I completely agree with IronZombie. You're ALWAYS learning in Rocksmith, no matter what you do. Guitarcade teaches you a lot of useful stuff. Session Mode is better for when you advance beyond just learning a couple of songs.

I tend to concentrate a LOT of plays on songs I really like (Pour Some Sugar On Me, Walk This Way, Jessie's Girl, etc...), just because I want to learn those for when I become a rock star. I try to play ALL songs a least once - just to have a baseline for when I play them later. You'll be amazed when you're playing down the road and you go into a song you struggled with before and you just start nailing stuff... It's a great feeling.

Basically, for me, I learn more when I'm invested in the song, so pick songs you like and just hammer on them until you learn how to play it well. You'll learn as much from that as from anything else.
