Salty I need to re-do my profile in CAG4.0
As the original deal morphed into a game deal and guitar advice thread, I decided to place the original BB deal behind spoiler tags for a reference point. And I listed the current deals below. The guitar purchase is the most difficult part for us beginners, so read the advice in the thread

Too busy to read the entire thread? Then try these following posts for the guitar advice. Thanks to SmileyMcSmiles for all the help :applause:
>>guitar advice, initial posts #26, 34, 35

This should help get you started.

Guitar+Bass Version*****

Original Version*****

Original DEAL behind this Spoiler
Bestbuy has a separate, two week flier for music gear and they're advertising Rocksmith game bundle+ Epiphone guitar for $199.98 and you get a $50 giftcard with purchase of the game/guitar bundle.

Ad is a bit odd in that they only list sku's for the game bundle and standalone guitar (#2633103, 2633149, 2273055), so they may be doing in-store bundling. Plus they list the game + guitar bundle as a 10 savings over buying everything separate

I'll let the musician CAGs speak to the quality of the guitar;)

UPDATE: Bestbuy finally got the site updated with the offer.
Link Dead
Like I said before, seems like they are doing an in-store bundle instead of selling the official Rocksmith guitar kit. Won't know for sure until it's bought

UPDATE #2: deal is definitely an in-store bundle of standalone guitar + game bundle. Guitar is an Epiphone LP jr with a cherryburst finish and no strap or picks are included. Asked about substituting a different guitar model but bundle price won't activate if you switch it out

Pretty good deal on the Pawn Shop '51... This is comparable to what it was at Best Buy during the clearances... $449.99 (8 Left)...

These babies have a blender knob that lets you dial in a mix of the Enforcer Humbuckers or the Texas Special in the neck... You don't have to just turn a pickup on or off, you can blend your sound in instead...

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004UUDABC/ref=dra_a_cs_lb_hn_it_P1400_1000?tag=dradisplay-20
Good thing I liked the '72 more. Think I'll wait for the Squier reissues ;)

Really can't go wrong with the Epiphone Les Paul Jr. It's a nice solid guitar that is also the pack-in guitar for the full blown Rocksmith bundle (the $200 bundle option). If you have access to Sams Club, you can check to see if they still have any of last years bundle since they were getting cleared out at $50.

If that's not available then I'd say go for the Dean Vendetta Xmt. It's about 100 and can be had for less if you catch the right sale. You'll see that recommended alot since it's a low cost model that is built pretty well and is more versatile than the Epi Les Paul Jr.

They're both good choices for Rocksmith since the game is gonna handle the majority of the sound effects... it's just that the Vendetta gives you more options should you find that you enjoy playing guitar in general.
I have small hands and am petite (arm length).

Will the neck on the Dean be suitable? or should I watch for a smaller neck/width?

The size of the Vendetta's neck and fretboard are smaller than the most stuff you'll find from Gibson/Epiphone, Fender/Squier.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I think the Wizard necks on Ibanez guitars are the only ones out there that would be smaller.

Try and hit a local Guitar Center if possible. They should have some used ones you can at least hold. Who cares if you know how to play. Just rest the neck in your hand and wrap your fingers around it. Then try the same with another model and you should be able to notice the difference.

I found the Vendetta easier to play when I first started. But as I got into playing more chords, it got harder to use only because I had a harder time cramming my fingers into the smaller space. Eventually gravitated back to the guitars with larger necks/wider fretboards

Rocksmith 2014 (game+cable) version is $50 @ Target this week

:360: http://www.target.com/p/rocksmith-2014-xbox-360/-/A-14592733#prodSlot=medium_1_1&term=rocksmith

:ps3: http://www.target.com/p/rocksmith-2014-playstation-3/-/A-14592734#prodSlot=medium_1_3&term=rocksmith

And here are a couple of sweet guitar deals to go with it

MF has the Ibanez GRG150ms for $100 (available in red, yellow, black, white)

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/ibanez-grg150ms-electric-guitar

SamAsh has the Dean Vendetta 1.0 for $150 (trans-blue, metallic silver)(improved version of the XMT)

http://www.samash.com/holiday-deals/null-dvn1fmslx-p-dvn1fmslx

^^ My buddy is going to be happy to hear about this. I was raving about the game to him today. Had no idea he was interested or I'd have told him about one of the earlier sales. He'll be happy to save $30

Disturbed

"Down With the Sickness"

"Asylum"

"Voices"
^This is New DLC Day!!!

And it wasn't completely obvious, but the Digital versions of Rocksmith 2014 are out for :360: and :ps3: (msrp of $59.99).

May be too little, too late but they're out there.

Nothing new deal-wise for the game aside from the other thread which shows the PC/Mac download for $20-something.  Some say it's legit, others say it's shady.  You decide for yourself.

Now, here are some deals on accessories.

Always good to have a tuner, separate from the game.  And clip-on tuners are especially handy.

Fender clip-on tuner for $6

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessories/fender-ft-004-clip-on-chromatic-tuner

Snark Blue clip-on tuner for $8.34

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessories/snark-sn-1-guitar-bass-tuner

And How 'bout you get someone to gift you a mini-amp

Fender mini deluxe amp for $27

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/amplifiers-effects/fender-mini-deluxe-amp

Danelectro Honeytone mini amp for $14.46

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/amplifiers-effects/danelectro-honeytone-n-10-guitar-mini-amp?pfm=sp

Then there's a butt-ugly Fender trucker cap for $5 (add to cart for the price)

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/lifestyle/fender-serpent-trucker-hat/h79960000002000

Finally, an Epiphone EB-0 Bass guitar for $160 (add to cart for price)

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/bass/epiphone-eb-0-electric-bass/518523000001000

Anybody have an opinion on this bass?  It only has two reviews, both good.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Schecter+-+Stiletto+Extreme-4+4-String+Full-Size+Electric+Bass+Guitar+-+Black+Cherry/1205286.p?skuId=1205286&productCategoryId=pcmcat151600050007&id=1218234046972

My fiance keeps badgering me about what I want for Christmas, which I don't want anything, but I figured if she forces me to pick something, I may as well upgrade my bass.

I'm currently using my Frankenbass (JB Player 4-string, no idea what model, has mismatched tensioners, ill-fitting pick guard, beat pickups and mismatched and beat knobs/wiring) This thing is an absolute noisy POS (despite somehow staying in tune and scoring decently in RS) but I bought it from Goodwill for $20 while on vacation a few years ago.

I also have a Washburn Bantam 5-string, but since I'm still learning to play, I'm not jumping into an extra string yet.  That one just hangs on the wall. ;)

Great app unless you are using iOS 7. The update causes it to crash :( Grab it while it's free and hope they fix the problem later.

----------     ----------     ----------     ----------

Yesterday was the first time in a looong time that I was able to spend more than 20 minutes in Rocksmith.

Spent 3 hours playing, mostly in "Learn a Song" mode.  Hit like 10 songs, doing the various recommendations & leveling up.

Finished up with Non-Stop Play.  Felt real good to get so much time in.  But man, my fingertips were hurting by the end.  They're fine right now, but I'm sure they'll hurt just as soon as I try any bends :whistle2:o

I was so tired of classic rock DLC in RS1... And now I wish I had those days back. I'm just not a huge fan of 2000's artists... I may pick up a couple of Muse songs.

Next week's DLC may be announced early due to the holidays and Steam.

I've noticed that they like to do DLC for bands already in-game, possibly because they already have a working relationship, or maybe it was just in the contract. Whatever the case, I'm predicting Weezer or Paramore as an upcoming DLC pack.

If it happens to be dlc for bands already featured in the game, my first choice would be Mastodon. They're the only band that I'd jump on without hesitation. Maybe Slayer depending on the tracks. I think I'd have to wait for a sale for the other bands. Now that's a different story if they start bringing in new bands. I also would think it'd be great to have second track packs for some bands. I'd kill to have another Smashing Pumpkins pack with more old stuff, like off Gish. But I think if that happened crazedracerguy would lose his mind

I think we've had enough Smashing Pumpkins. They need to revisit some blues in my opinion. There's only 3 blues tracks in the entire game and they're all DLC. I feel like they've ignored a really great guitar genre that could help a lot of people learn to play. After that I would prefer some more classic rock.

Can't make everybody happy all the time. I'm all for some more blues, but I wouldn't be excited to pay for it though. Including the Pumpkins songs, there are about a dozen songs I get highly motivated to play. Those are what keep me coming back and part of why the new version is so much better for me (I'm not ignoring the improvements). Everybody needs something they love in the game or else it won't work for them.

Agree. I try to play all songs once. Some, that's the only play through they'll ever get. I'd rather spend my time grinding on Tom Petty or Def Leppard than grinding through some song that I hate. I was like that in the old one, too. I always changed some song out of the setlist just because I didn't want to spend time on it.

The lessons in this one are phenomenal, though.

I haven't spent as much time in session mode as I thought I would, just because I'd rather play songs I like than do that for an extended length of time. I'm sure as my hours in the game pile up, so will my hours in Session Mode.

And yes, jsivley, I would lose my damn mind if we got another SP pack before we get some more classic rock ;)

Yes. As someone who plays strictly bass, I am LOVING the blues tracks, as few as there may be.

I'm using PC mainly for the fact that I didn't want to mess with my Xbox configuration to deal with lag and audio delay.  Plus, I can play in my office and not bother or be bothered by my fiance or the kids.

Go  :360: If you're lazy like me

But if you have a good PC setup, go that route.  The steam sales happen more often and usually at steeper discounts.

And there may or may not be an underground rock club that handles things on the down low.

I wouldn't know about those things cuz I'm lazy :whistle2:

The first rule of Rock Club is you DO NOT talk about Rock Club.

I actually have no idea what you're talking about... I just felt it was appropriate. ;)

Then it's a good thing that I'm too lazy to explain, since I'm not s'pose to talk about it. ;)

And I have NO idea what I'm talking about... rock club, what rock club

I'm thinking of picking up some new DLC. Because of the sky-high cost of it all I'm not looking to get too crazy but what do you guys recommend? As in what's your favorite of the DLCs? Something that isn't too difficult and fun to play.

I don't necessarily have a genre preference or anything. I'm open to most types of music although I'd probably stay away from some of the metal since it's a little too difficult for my skill level right now.

Probably my favorite DLCs from the old RS were Gary Clark, Jr. and Grace Potter. I also thought the Fall Out Boy pack was a blast to play. Heart "Barracuda" is awesome. The Offspring "Gone Away" is my favorite song in RS. Those would be some of my suggestions.

Blind Melon - "No Rain" and the Cure - "Boys Don't Cry" and the Pixies - "Here comes your man" are some of my favorite songs to play.

The Smashing Pumpkins is my favorite pack I've downloaded, with Peal Jam actually coming in pretty close. I was very pleased how fun those PJ songs are to play. The Queen pack was a pretty good purchase as well

In Living Color - "Cult of Personality" is a pretty good time

I was surprised and disappointed in the Pantera pack. Couldn't believe those songs weren't more fun. Was also surprisingly disappointed in the Albert King SRV song "Born Under a bad Sign"

Stay away from Megadeth and Eric Johnson until you are pretty good.

That's too bad about Born Under a Bad Sign.. I was actually thinking about getting it. I think I'll stay away from Cult of Personality until I get better but the Pearl Jam songs and Pixies might work well. Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Well... The bad news is that my fantasy team lost today - and it was a $480 winners purse...

The good news is that my $45 SKB Footnote pedalboard actually shipped out this weekend from Guitar Center. I never said anything about it on here because, when I ordered it, it immediately sent me a backorder notice, so I didn't figure they would actually send the orders out. I was wrong. :)

Pretty cool board - it has a 5W amp and speaker built in the board so you can power all your pedals and wire them how you want to and use it like a small combo amp. Or as a little stage monitor. Or you can run the signal out and power an 8 ohm cab... Pretty versatile board.

Any updates on DLC for the week? I thought there was an announcement that we'd see it early.

Anyway, I got my Squire Jag bass last week and am loving it. It' so much fun. I've played guitar for 10 years and it wasn't that much of a jump
