Salty I need to re-do my profile in CAG4.0
As the original deal morphed into a game deal and guitar advice thread, I decided to place the original BB deal behind spoiler tags for a reference point. And I listed the current deals below. The guitar purchase is the most difficult part for us beginners, so read the advice in the thread

Too busy to read the entire thread? Then try these following posts for the guitar advice. Thanks to SmileyMcSmiles for all the help :applause:

Guitar+Bass Version*****

Original Version*****

Original DEAL behind this Spoiler
Bestbuy has a separate, two week flier for music gear and they're advertising Rocksmith game bundle+ Epiphone guitar for $199.98 and you get a $50 giftcard with purchase of the game/guitar bundle.

Ad is a bit odd in that they only list sku's for the game bundle and standalone guitar (#2633103, 2633149, 2273055), so they may be doing in-store bundling. Plus they list the game + guitar bundle as a 10 savings over buying everything separate

I'll let the musician CAGs speak to the quality of the guitar;)

UPDATE: Bestbuy finally got the site updated with the offer.
Link Dead
Like I said before, seems like they are doing an in-store bundle instead of selling the official Rocksmith guitar kit. Won't know for sure until it's bought

UPDATE #2: deal is definitely an in-store bundle of standalone guitar + game bundle. Guitar is an Epiphone LP jr with a cherryburst finish and no strap or picks are included. Asked about substituting a different guitar model but bundle price won't activate if you switch it out

Am I not punching the strings hard enough, or maybe my guitar just isn't very good?
It sounds obvious, but have you checked that your guitars volume is all the way up? After you do, perform a sound check in the game (it's where the tuner is).
If that doesn't help you might not be hitting/holding the strings hard enough, but you might be doing it too hard. If you hold a string too hard you can bend it, unintentionally raising the note

Copped Rocksmith 2014 for the ps3 used on Amazon warehouse for 35 with the cable. Probably gonna flip the game for the PC version but keep the cable

I just can't imagine myself ever getting the hang of that game. I can read tabs just as well as the next guy, but it just seems like madness to me to be able to distinguish what to do at the raging speed those tabs fly at. It's like the numbers all blur together and my mind needs a minute or so to process what's going on. At least with Rocksmith you get a graphical representation of what notes to hit and your mind can figure things out more easily.

Isn't scrolling tab something Rocksmith originally considered but decided against because it was "too hard"?

THANK YOU! Wow, I couldn't find this for under $20 anywhere. I wonder why everywhere else is selling them for so much?
You're welcome, glad I could help. Note that used version won't include a cable, but you don't need it if you already have one.

As noted earlier in this thread, though, these cables can and do wear out, developing kinks or shorts. So it's not a bad idea to have a spare, if you can find a bundled version at Walmart for under $20, or at Sam's Club for under $10 (if in stock, and prices can vary by location, but they've been spotted many times in different cities at those prices).

Good luck, either way, and have fun playing!

I can't speak about Banfuse fully since I haven't played it, but I have played from tablature books and it's much harder than playing Rocksmith. I imagine Bandfuse probably will be harder for most of us, but I'm sure if you can already read tab it shouldn't be that much of a leap. I struggle with tab and assume I'm going to struggle with bandfuse when I finally get it(looking for a $20-30 price point).

I sure wish I had inverted the string layout from day one when I started playing rocksmith. I still read tab correctly (slowly) but I bet it would have helped in the transition to bandfuse

Bandfuse is also $39.99 in today's new Gamestop ad, if you're interested.
Beat me to it. :)

I'd like to say BF is worth the try at 39.99, but mine has been back in the box since the first night I purchased it and played for 20 minutes or so. I don't know. Maybe with more time in it, I'd feel more comfortable with it. As it is, I can't recommend it.

Hey, hey, hey... it's New DLC Daaaayyy...wait, it's Aerosmith???

I don't want the 'Stones' American cousins ;)

Isn't scrolling tab something Rocksmith originally considered but decided against because it was "too hard"?
Yup, UBI axed the TAB layout not so much because it was too hard, but rather it wasn't beginner friendly.

IIRC, Paul Cross and another director made the call partially drawing on their own inexperience playing guitar.

RS' mode is a very easy format to utilize on the fly. Where TAB requires a certain amount of memorization if you want to play the song properly

Beat me to it. :)

I can see value in BF, as a better way to learn a particular song. Not so much to build general guitar playing skills.

Slowing down the full TAB of a song would be really helpful in memorizing it.

But that's the rub. Thought I read that you have to unlock the full TAB version of the song. In other words, you work your way thru the lesser versions until you're deemed worthy.

Already had enough of that with OG Rocksmith. Don't wanna do that again

I'm having a lot of trouble making hammer on-offs and sliding loud enough.

Am I not punching the strings hard enough, or maybe my guitar just isn't very good?
Think of the hammer-on like you're tapping down on the string, sorta like the way you would tap on a table (using the tip of your fingers). The Pull-off is the reverse; lifting your finger in a quick motion. You can't come in too slow or sloppy with your finger.

And slides could be more about you not maintaining enough pressure on the string. Tendency is to lift a bit so that it's easier to slide your finger, but when you do that you end up muting the string instead of letting it ring out.

While I don't know your guitar there are a couple simple things you can do to help it play well.

-Put on a fresh set of strings. Especially important if you're still rockin' the stock set

-and while the strings are off, clean up the fret wire on the quitar. You don't want any kind of gunk build-up on the wire. You'll know it's a problem if you try a bend and the string sorta grinds its way across the fret wire.

-Finally, the simplest fix is to crank up the tone & volume on the guitar and set the selector switch to the middle position (if aplicable)

Got Rocksmith 2014 for Christmas, and it is so much better than the original.  Love the arcade mode and the riff-repeaters.  Plus, for the first time in my Xbox360 career (had it since 2006), I finally hit number one on a leaderboard.  #1 on We're Not Gonna Take it, Medium score attack!  (#2 on Master score attack for the same song).  I am sure someone will come along soon and bump me off.

I want to learn more songs, but I have gotten so hooked on raising my scores in the arcade, that it has taken me by the wayside.  I haven't even checked out the session mode yet.

My only gripes are the tuning (I have trouble triggering the high e-string), and I did like stepping up my playlists and venues in the original Rocksmith as well, that doesn't seem to be there in this one.  But there is so much awesome new stuff.  Very cool.

I have trouble with the high E as well. I get it to just about where it's supposed to be and then I play it several times quickly and it makes it around the circle and recognizes it.

I usually like to put the game's setlist in order of tunings so I can avoid changing tunings too often as it gets annoying.

Personally, there has been a lot of DLC that has come out for RS2014 that I like (I haven't bought it yet, because I still have a ton to DLC that I bought in the sales during the lead up to release)

All 5 Iron Maiden songs, the 3 older Alice in Chains songs, My Iron Lung from Radiohead, Baba O'Riley, and Dream On are all DLC I plan to purchase.

What DLC are you looking for?

Wonderwall is super easy.
Nothing wrong with a beginner song. Some of the most fun songs in this game are the easy ones. The game is after all geared at teaching people how to play guitar. Plus it's easily Oasis' most popular single, so I would assume they would make it DLC simply to get more sales.

Personally I hope to see Live Forever, Supersonic, and Stop Crying Your Heart Out (yes, I know it's easy, but it would be fun) in the list. If they throw in an Arctic Monkeys DLC pack the week after that would be pretty cool too.

For those of you that have a Sam Ash store near you...

FOR OUR FACEBOOK FANS ONLY - Get $10 IN FREE GEAR at Sam Ash Music, this Saturday, 01/11/14 only. There is no minimum purchase required - pick up some strings or sticks, or put the $10 towards a larger purchase. It's your call!

http://samashmusic.com/facebook-fans/
I've got one literally 2 minutes from my house. Maybe I'll go pick up some free strings. My strat has had the same ones on for 2 years now and I feel like I'm pushing it. I'm just worried I'm gonna walk into Sam Ash and be tempted to buy a new guitar. I don't trust myself.

I don't believe I stated there is anything wrong with the addition of an easy song, nor did I suggest there is any less joy to be had from learning easy songs. I was merely pointing out the fact that it is an easy song to learn.

Personally, I hope to see Acquiesce, Live Forever & Lyla.

I could also use some extra strings and it looks like the tuner is selling for about $40 on Amazon, so if I'll just throw that up there and see what happens since I already have two other tuners.
Just a heads-up, but my tuner from this bundle just sold for $45 an Amazon (about $40 as shipping and fees), so I pretty much got a stand and a set of bass strings and got paid $20. I have no idea why it's selling for so high, when the regular price on that bundle is $47.99.

As for the stand, it is pretty sturdy and folds up super compact.

As expected, an Oasis pack this week.

Champagne Supernova

Live Forever

Some Might Say

Supersonic

Wonderwall

Lots of different tuning variations for these so that'll be fun.... also Wonderwall requires a capo. I suggest getting a cheap $4 one at Guitar Center or looking online. They have some online for under $3 with free shipping but I hear they ship from China so it can be painfully slow to receive them. Might as well spend an extra dollar and get it right away if you plan on buying this pack.

Holy s***. This is a great pack for me as a huge Oasis fan.

I know how to play these songs already but I'm hoping all the chords are accurate (Don't Look Back In Anger was a bit off)

So running the PC version and Windows 7 stopped recognizing my real tone cable Sunday and yesterday. Sunday I rebooted and it worked. Yesterday still would not recognize after a reboot. Any suggestions?

Find a 19.99 copy of the old one at Wal-Mart. You may be able to find a couple of things to check on the official forums at ubisoft. I do t use the PC version, but I know there are driver things to check. Most likely, thought, the cable has failed.

I will always suggest to someone who plays a lot to go wireless. There are cheap units that do great. They are cord savers, for sure.

Bought the game off of Amazon and the game shipped about a week and a half ago. Where do I go to get a replacement cable? Ubi claims I can get a replacement cable.

Ahhh.... Then contact Ubi support from their website. I don't know exactly where (the Rocksmith Facebook page may have a link - I forget)...

Looks like XBL leaked the pack for next week, since this week was Sony's turn with Oasis...

Happy Weezer fans out there in RS land today...

Paul confirmed it in a tweet. Looks like "Buddy Holly" and "Island in the Sun" definitely. It's a 5 pack.

Finally decided to bite on Bandfuse. With gamers club, it was $31.99 from Bestbuy. Look forward to comparing the games....and playing Souls of Black

Look at the lost souls....Man, I love Testament. This album is so-so for me, but that intro bass makes the song. I need to practice my guitar more. Maybe I'll look into this. Pay the burnt bridge toll!!!

Their support was I need to ship the cable back, with a receipt and an explanation of why the cable does not work. They also said to try things like change volume settings when it wont even register with my PC. I believe it's dead, because I never had a USB device fail in this PC and it's only after about 5-6 hours total of daily playing. Part of me just wants to say fuck it and just buy a new one next month. Unless there is a cheaper alternative.

I like the soundtrack to Bandfuse overall better than the soundtrack to Rocksmith 2014, and I am a huge George Lynch fan and he is one of the instructors, but with all of the DLC I have for Rocksmtih already I went with RS 2014. I'll probably get Bandfuse in a year or so...should be able to get it for $10 or $15 eventually. It will probably be the last Xbox 360 disc I buy.

For those who have Rocksmith 2014, I haven't figured out how to get to the riff repeater, other than when it comes up as a Rocksmith Reccomends option in a song. Am I just missing something obvious? There are times I want to go to the riff-repeater on my own, but I couldn't do it.

Before you go through all of that can you test on a friends console or try another usb port on your PC just to double check.

If you have not already check out this thread (scroll down a bit to the cable portion) and make sure everything is set up optimally.

I've had 3 different cables and none of them have died from regular use. I just like having back ups handy and use it on multiple devices.

Press pause any time during a song. Look on the left side at your options. You can drop right into RR at any point in any song. :)

Weezer? Awesome.

Now I just need an Arctic Monkeys pack ("Do I Wanna Know?" & "I Bet You Look Good on The Dancefloor" specifically) and I'm sorted.

Tried every USB port on my machine, no luck. Just says device not recognized.

Does the PS3 version of the new or original game have a demo? If so I can try it on my PS3 to see if the cable is dead or not.

All you have to do is press B on your controller (I guess it would be circle on the PS3?) and it jumps you right into it and you can control everything about the song. The other way to do it is to press start and then then navigate through the start menu to open it up.

Looks like I need to learn how to read. Just got my store pickup from the Best Buy clearance. I bought a few patch cables and 2 packs of what I assumed were light gauge strings (10s). What I got were 2 packs of 5 .010 high e strings. Looks like its time to practice my bends!
