Salty I need to re-do my profile in CAG4.0
As the original deal morphed into a game deal and guitar advice thread, I decided to place the original BB deal behind spoiler tags for a reference point. And I listed the current deals below. The guitar purchase is the most difficult part for us beginners, so read the advice in the thread

Too busy to read the entire thread? Then try these following posts for the guitar advice. Thanks to SmileyMcSmiles for all the help :applause:

This should help get you started.

Guitar+Bass Version*****

Original Version*****

Original DEAL behind this Spoiler
Bestbuy has a separate, two week flier for music gear and they're advertising Rocksmith game bundle+ Epiphone guitar for $199.98 and you get a $50 giftcard with purchase of the game/guitar bundle.

Ad is a bit odd in that they only list sku's for the game bundle and standalone guitar (#2633103, 2633149, 2273055), so they may be doing in-store bundling. Plus they list the game + guitar bundle as a 10 savings over buying everything separate

I'll let the musician CAGs speak to the quality of the guitar;)

UPDATE: Bestbuy finally got the site updated with the offer.
Link Dead
Like I said before, seems like they are doing an in-store bundle instead of selling the official Rocksmith guitar kit. Won't know for sure until it's bought

UPDATE #2: deal is definitely an in-store bundle of standalone guitar + game bundle. Guitar is an Epiphone LP jr with a cherryburst finish and no strap or picks are included. Asked about substituting a different guitar model but bundle price won't activate if you switch it out

Hunting deals for this game.  Plan on getting RS1 and 2014 for my wife who is getting back into guitar.  I will learn "Where is my mind" by the Pixies, my only goal.

Oh - hellz no... I LOVE me some Halestorm (Lzzy Hale....mmmmm... HAWT)... I just don;t want to play more hard rock. I gotta spend my time learning shit I'm gonna play on stage. I may be auditioning for a band as the lead guitarist in a few weeks if they sack the current guy...
The current guitarist, Joe Hottinger, is heavily rumored to be Lzzy's long-term boyfriend. Take a look at their various social media pages, those two are always together. Sorry to disappoint you. But yes, I've never seen anybody better than Lzzy at working a wah peddle while wearing platform stiletto heels, that's for sure! And look good while doing it, of course!

Heart - "Crazy On You"

Halestorm - Love Bites (So Do I)

Flyleaf - "All Around Me"
And this ^ is your dlc for

New DLC Day!!!

Welcome!

Toss back a few while we wait for new deals. We're in a bit of a lull right now but should pick up eventually.

RS1 can usually be found for $20 & under, with clearance deals sub-10 bucks.

J. Backlund Design Guitars started their 2nd Kickstarter project.

This time it's their take on the telecaster.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/430854338/retronix-r-100-guitar-project
Less than 3 days left and $2,900 short.

Might go down to the wire.

Less than 3 days left and $2,900 short.

Might go down to the wire.
I'm telling you... The Best Buy clearance RUINED me for new guitars forever. I just can't pay that much anymore when I bought an American Tele for $475...

Next week's DLC... A Day To Remember. Yeah, I know. I heard the collective sigh of a bad week of DLC... At least we have 3 more weeks of ALL NEW DLC before they go back to on-disc artists...

Wow, just picked up the Bandpack while I could. Amazon has nine more left. Will try to get DLC this weekend, too.

They said they'll continue to sell content they've already released, but don't expect anything new until, or if, they resume operations.

Any online achievements that may be discontinued?  I have it sitting unopened, new in box still from the $29 gamestop sale last week.

Bandfuse is still $29.99 at GS. The DLC will stay available. There never was much of the game printed, so I'd say if you really wanted to try it, $30 is pretty good.

Couple of nice BC Rich deals at MF:

BC Rich Pro X Custom Eagle Electric Black Metalflake - $399.99 (MSRP $1450, usual retail 1000)

A coupe of guys have bought some of these off of MF on the RS forums and LOVE their guitars. I know at least one pro player that is sponsored by BC and only plays Mockingbirds (and did before he was sponsored).

They have some other BC Rich's for comparable savings in the deal page...

Thanks, crazed. My wife would kill me if I bought another. No time to play right now anyway with the new baby to take care of.

Steam key for 2014 is $14.98 on mac deals. I bought it and activated. It took a few minutes to process after purchase.

http://www.macgamestore.com/product/3006/Rocksmith-2014-Edition/
Looks like it was a mistake. I added to cart and waited until I could check my checking account (so my fiance doesn't yell at me for spending money we don't have ) and when I went to check out, it was removed and now the price is up to 44.98. That's what I get for waiting...

How do I fix the adaptive gameplay thing? It went crazy on me and it boosted my mastery to 60% on a few songs after the third or fourth tries even though I was having trouble with them.

You can't change the adaptive difficulty in the regular game. If you want you can play score attack on easy/med/hard/master set difficulty. You can also adjust the setting on how forgiving the game is. If you're struggling you can make the game strict on how it judges you and you'll not make progress unless you perform much better

Was really hoping to get in on that mac mall deal.  Oh well!

The starter set is $40 on Amazon with Prime.  Is it worth getting the original at that price, or should I wait?  Have there been much better deals in the past?

You mean Rocksmith 1? Thee have been WAY better deals. Rocksmith 2014 has been a little lower than that, I think, but it's not all the time.

Alright. No rush on the game yet. I'll bit when it hits $30 or less, is that realistic?
2014? I'm sure it'll get there eventually. Do you already know how to play guitar? You know it's not a traditional "game", right? And that if you put 2000 hours into the game, you;ll still, likely, be only a mediocre guitarist, right? Just sayin'.

So, is today's DLC SOOOOO bad that no one wants to talk about it?

Well fuck 'it. No matter what you think, it's still

New DLC Day!!!

Can't say I recognize the group, but maybe I've heard their songs??? {I-dúh-no}

A Day To Remember

-All Signs Point to Lauderdale

-The Downfall of us All

-All I Want

-If It Means A Lot to You

-It's Complicated

The starter set is $40 on Amazon with Prime. Is it worth getting the original at that price, or should I wait? Have there been much better deals in the past?
If you're going for PC, then wait for Steam sales. They tend to go for steep discounts (20-30 bucks) and you could always find the original version of the game (2011 version) to get the cable for cheap. Not much savings, but you do end up with another copy that you can use on a console.

It blows me away that a "$1000" guitar doesn't come with a case. Not even a gig bag.

Looks like this week is Matchbox 20 (3 AM and Unwell fit the clues). This may be my first DLC buy in months... I've bought exactly one song since mid January ("The One I Love - R.E.M.)...

Looks like this week is Matchbox 20 (3 AM and Unwell fit the clues). This may be my first DLC buy in months... I've bought exactly one song since mid January ("The One I Love - R.E.M.)...
Could the choices you make in DLC's be the reason after 2000 hrs. mediocre is all a guitarist can be? O:)

Matchbox Twenty? Nice.

Anyway, my PS3 keeps needing reformatting, so I lost all my Rocksmith data and I started again. It is not good for beginners. If you get most of the notes, then you'll be past 90% mastery after three times. It's awful.

It's currently down to $55 on Amazon.

I've played guitar for almost 20 years, very casually.  I am wondering if this is a good buy for an intermediate guitarist.  I can play alot of songs already, I can improvise decently and know some scales.  I know chord theory, can play bar chords, know major and minor pentatonics and have a pretty good vibrato  :)   I wonder if this layout is a good way to reinvigorate my interest in playing again?   Or would this be too simplistic?  Or perhaps since I know so much already, this would make things worse?

You probably wouldn't benefit much from it as a teaching tool at your skill level, but could definitely serve as motivation to practice, and practicing more will make you a better guitarist. I would say for you to think of it as kareoke for guitar. You get all the backing tracks and vocals of the original recording and you get to play along while it displays what notes for you to play.

It can teach bad habits, since by default it's pretty lenient towards mistakes. A much improved feature in the 2014 version is you can adjust error tolerance. I'd say get the game and once you learn how they track notes (have to remember string colors), turn the error tolerance as strict as it goes and enjoy jamming with the rest of the original track to back you

The guys that have played A LOT on Rocksmith (I'm talking multiple thousands of hours) are great at playing the songs in the game.

I spend my time outside of the game now. I'm writing more, cleaning up my playing on songs that I like, am able to improvise solos in songs that I learn so that I feel comfortable with the level that I'll play in a band (some solos translate well to studio work, but "feel" better with a few less notes when you play them without overdubs and studio corrections)... That's really what I wanted to accomplish with a guitar. I never wanted or needed to be EVH, but I enjoy the hell out f playing and can pick up a song I want to learn in a couple of nights of practicing 2 hours or so...

But, no, song choice won't advance you beyond just an "OK" guitarist in less than a couple thousand hours UNLESS you just have a natural tendency toward playing guitar (those people do exist). Mostly, under a few thousand hours, you're just learning how to parrot a song, but taking that outside a game and on to an amp, you'll likely a. Sound like shit and b. Not remember tha song as well as you think without Rocksmiths visual cues.

Ha Ha... I was just messing with ya crazed. The songs from Matchbox Twenty this week are:

3am

How far we come

Push

Unwell

She's so mean

You're So Real isn't there? Honestly, I want to play that song on bass but it wasn't a single so this sucks. Push and Unwell appear to be worth it.

Just saw this pop up in a banner ad:

Musicians Expo @ the Long Beach Convention Center

Could be a nice way to kill a Saturday
That's a 6 hour drive for me. It would have been cool to meet Rome, though.

Looks like AFI next week. No thanks.
Sweet! I'm ready to learn some AFI. Hopefully it's their older stuff.

If someone's looking for a really cheap, "beater" of a guitar, at Target today I saw they had their First Act electric guitar on clearance for 70% off, so $38.98.  I'm sure the quality is nothing special to say the least, but might serve a purpose for someone who wants a guitar they don't mind their kids damaging, or just a cheap way to get introduced to Rocksmith.

I got one of last year's models from Goodwill (used Target return) for $9. I used it once and it's been in my storage unit since. Sound quality is pretty bad, but I guess if you just want to get the feel for a guitar and see if you really want to play, it's not a bad option.

2014? I'm sure it'll get there eventually. Do you already know how to play guitar? You know it's not a traditional "game", right? And that if you put 2000 hours into the game, you;ll still, likely, be only a mediocre guitarist, right? Just sayin'.
I just got this game for $40 at amazon, might as well. I don't know how to play guitar, and since i work at a music store figured why not. Hopefully I'll learn something.

I would say that it is almost impossible NOT to learn at least something about playing from this game, at least. At most, you can become a pretty proficient guitarist from using it. If you find you love it, lessons (even just for a while) will help you tremendously.

Thats good, I'd like to learn some basics, i tried several things to try to learn guitar, but they've failed. I 'm having high hopes for this

When RS1 was done with new DLC in anticipation of RS2014, they put the DLC on sale in blocks every week. They also, at one point, had a few BIG packs that you could buy that were discounted pretty well.

Since 2014 came out, though, there have been 0 DLC sales. I wouldn't expect many of them, TBH...

Wish me luck:

"Thank you again for your order #Xxxxxx. We have yet to receive the out of stock item(s) noted below, but we have more on order with the manufacturer. We will ship them to you as soon as we receive them. We sincerely appreciate your patience"

I really hope GC doesn't cancel my order. I want that LP

On a brighter note, Rocksmith 2014 is on sale on PSN for $29.99.
