Bestbuy has a separate, two week flier for music gear and they're advertising Rocksmith game bundle+ Epiphone guitar for $199.98 and you get a $50 giftcard with purchase of the game/guitar bundle.

Ad is a bit odd in that they only list sku's for the game bundle and standalone guitar (#2633103, 2633149, 2273055), so they may be doing in-store bundling. Plus they list the game + guitar bundle as a 10 savings over buying everything separate

I'll let the musician CAGs speak to the quality of the guitar;)

Like I said before, seems like they are doing an in-store bundle instead of selling the official Rocksmith guitar kit. Won't know for sure until it's bought

UPDATE #2: deal is definitely an in-store bundle of standalone guitar + game bundle. Guitar is an Epiphone LP jr with a cherryburst finish and no strap or picks are included. Asked about substituting a different guitar model but bundle price won't activate if you switch it out

That's hilarious, would love to see that! I'm sure they don't want to risk alienating anyone in the business, but it really would be interesting to see who said no, and who's just dragging their feet.

Guitars are like wine: the good ones get better with age. The cheap ones will be cheap forever.

Also, 25 years definitely isn't ancient in terms of guitars

If it's a real Fender Strat, it's a horrible choice for starting Rocksmith. I'd be happy to trade you an almost new ESP LTD Viper 330 for that wreck of a strat with the busted knob - you know, I'm just trying to look out for your best interests. ;)

Yeah, not that big a difference from the present day Squier Bullets. That GC Squier would have been a slight change since it had dual humbuckers instead of the 3 single coil pups.

Speaking of which, they really jacked up the price... $150 is a No thank you.

Quick Google search shows that those Squier II's are quite the conversation starter... Or is it Fire starter. I duh no ;) Either way, you got something that ain't too common

Hey guys, sorry to bother, but after trying 2 separate times I seem to be unable to play Aerials by SOAD. It is in tune when I start but subsequently tells me that I'm not playing the right notes... when I am.

Two things come to mind...

1) You might have an intonation issue

2) You might be pressing down too hard when you fret the string

I'm not familiar with the song, but gonna guess it's drop tuning from the standard "EADGBE".

If that's true, then there is less tension on the strings. It's really common to press down too hard on the fret, which in turn stretches out the string just enough for it to be out of tune for the note you want to play.

Try lightening up a bit & also try to focus on fretting the string closer to the fret wire on the fretboard. You want to place your finger, on the string, next to the wire; NOT on top of the fret wire & not in the middle between fret wires.

If intonation is an issue, then you gotta make adjustments to the bridge.

I'd hold off on this and try adjusting your fretting technique first; that's more likely the issue.

Also, try playing one of the songs in standard E tuning and see if you still have the same problems. I'm leaning towards it just being too much force on your part.

It happens to all of us and it's much more likely to occur on the drop tuning songs.

Thanks. No brainer for me at the $89 they wanted. And I still prefer humbuckers to the traditional SSS strat setup, so getting them with the comfort of a strat body is a big plus too.

Woulda got it sooner if it wasn't for the extra 5% rewards from buying online.

Only negatives so far have been one red sparkle flake on the back of the guitar, the paint job around the neck pocket coulda been better and some dirt smudges on the headstock. Pretty minor really.

This could be a good choice to check for anyone needing a starter guitar (or looking to Prince-ify their gear ;) ). As long as they sell them again sub-$100.

Keep an eye out around Labor Day and Black Friday

Do you think it's any better or worse than the Epi Les Paul Special they've sold for $89 several times in the past year or two?

They're both pretty close build-wise. For the same money I'd give this strat the edge since you're getting a guitar that's just a little more versatile/nicer

-a sparkle glossy finish vs. the worn finish

-a tremolo bar vs. the hardtail (EDIT: just realized the Epi has a wrap-a-round tailpiece like the LP jr's)

-two tone controls vs. just one

But it's not like the LP special is bad (well maybe the current run are; they seem to have really cheaped out on the materials so I'd scrutinize a bit more than normal)

But if they ever bring back the TV Yellow special with P90s, I'd be ALL over that. (I've got a thing for p90s)

Got a new flyer from Guitar Center.  This time they're advertising the ordinary Squier Bullets for $99.99

I got it for pc too...figure my 360 is going out the door soon to make way for the xbone (depending on halo 5 really...). Destiny on ps4 has me rethinking even getting the next halo and an xbone.

Now if they would just let us transfer the licenses for our DLC...

 
I picked this up for the 360 years back at Best Buy for dirt cheap. I am going to snag the Humble Bundle for the 2014 version at $15 and use my old cable! Thanks for the heads up.

I already plan on buying the Billy Talent and Matchbox Twenty Song packs when I get home... this probably is not good haha

Also I have been playing guitar for over 10 years now and have quite a bit of left over instruments and equipment I don't use much anymore haha. I see that some of you guys are looking for things to play the game with and then in turn maybe a bit more if you get hooked on the guitar itself

Haven't seen a video yet, but Dan said they had reworked the guitar arrangement for "Kiss On My List" to be more guitar friendly. I'm glad. I love me some Hall and Oates...

Very interested in the X1 version of the game since it would be very easy to boot up compared to my 360. I love how the X1 keeps a game running all the time even when powered off. I can only see myself getting it if it's cheap enough though. And I would like them to add new songs to the setlist. If they make it enticing enough I'm sure a lot of people will buy it.

Also, Lamb of God is supposedly this next week's DLC. That's a hard pass for me. Never too interested in the fast and hard metal songs. I did purchase Hold the Line and I Keep Forgettin' though. Awesome tracks.

I've been holding off on getting a new console but this might be the push that does it. Even though it would just be a port of a game I already own, it would probably be enough to convince me. Then I could have my rocksmith on the same console as my shiny new games and not have to switch back and forth, while the 360 could get retired to my bedroom or my music room (probably a good choice). Plus this is probably a sign that they are moving forward and any sequel will probably be for the next gen anyway. Looking forward to that

Hopefully they will have improved the kinect voice controls. They work so poorly on the 360 I had to shut them off. Way too sensitive and so inaccurate. Can't have a conversation with somebody else in the room and sometimes even the song I'm playing will trigger some janky command.
