Salty I need to re-do my profile in CAG4.0
As the original deal morphed into a game deal and guitar advice thread, I decided to place the original BB deal behind spoiler tags for a reference point. And I listed the current deals below. The guitar purchase is the most difficult part for us beginners, so read the advice in the thread

Too busy to read the entire thread? Then try these following posts for the guitar advice. Thanks to SmileyMcSmiles for all the help :applause:

Guitar+Bass Version*****

Original Version*****

Original DEAL behind this Spoiler
Bestbuy has a separate, two week flier for music gear and they're advertising Rocksmith game bundle+ Epiphone guitar for $199.98 and you get a $50 giftcard with purchase of the game/guitar bundle.

Ad is a bit odd in that they only list sku's for the game bundle and standalone guitar (#2633103, 2633149, 2273055), so they may be doing in-store bundling. Plus they list the game + guitar bundle as a 10 savings over buying everything separate

I'll let the musician CAGs speak to the quality of the guitar;)

UPDATE: Bestbuy finally got the site updated with the offer.
Link Dead
Like I said before, seems like they are doing an in-store bundle instead of selling the official Rocksmith guitar kit. Won't know for sure until it's bought

UPDATE #2: deal is definitely an in-store bundle of standalone guitar + game bundle. Guitar is an Epiphone LP jr with a cherryburst finish and no strap or picks are included. Asked about substituting a different guitar model but bundle price won't activate if you switch it out

Sorry for asking such a noob question, but I have the original rocksmith (not RS 2014) and I am interested in the deftones DLC.  Mind you, I haven't even opened up the game yet.  Are they compatible or do I need 2014?

so uh after watching the slayer video, i've decided I suck and need to throw my guitar and rocksmith in the trash. :(
Don't be such a drama queen. Next time you BBQ, use your guitar instead of charcoal. Once you eat the food you'll be infused with guitar mojo. Why else do ya think I've gotten sooo many guitars ;)

But yeah, Audrey's legit. She's probably put in more time on RS than all CAGs... Combined

All new DLC released since RS2014 only works with RS2014.

That's pretty easy to do when you're a little girl and have virtually no responsibility. Try juggling a real job, grad school, friends, a significant other. I'm sure others on this board have even more on their plate. Plus, children naturally have a better ability to learn new things. It's just how the brain develops when you're younger.

No doubt.... that's why Confucius should be laying into his parents for having him a couple decades too early :) .

I get the whole life thing...

I had sooo much free time for the first year and a half from RS's release  that I made huge progress in playing.  Not that shocking starting from ZERO.

Then fun time ended and play time nosedived.  Which is why I've been looking for alternate ways of learning.  Love RS, but not helping me improve right now with my current situation.  Just trying to tread water for the time being

Today's DLC is (drumroll please)...

Lamb of God Pack:

Laid To Rest
Ghost Walking
Walk With Me In Hell

Ugh. No thanks. If I want to listen to the cookie monster, I'll listen to this:

With each passing week I realize more and more just how dissimilar our musical tastes are, crazed. For once though I think we can finally come together on something. I love metal but have never really cared for Lamb of God, so this week is a pass for me. But that Cookie Monster song was AMAZING! If that was offered as dlc I'd be all over it.

LOL... I like country and classic rock. That's it. ;) No - there are a couple of current groups that I'd crap my pants if they showed up in RS - Shinedown and Seether, among a couple of others - but, as a general rule, I don't like current metal. I like the hair band late '80's-early 90's stuff, but was never into Maiden or Ozzy or any of those artists.

Also, after I watched the cookie monster song, I'd totally buy it. :)

I'm not into the whole screamo stuff either. Playing guitar riffs really fast and screaming your head off. Ugh. You got bands like AC/DC, Metallica, Black Sabbath, Rush, and many more that actually give the metal genre a good name. I can't stand what it's become.

Hey guys,

Sorry to bring this up if it has been mentioned before, but what do you guys do for DLC?  The store on Rocksmith is an absolute mess.  For a platform that attempts to survive on weekly downloads it is literally impossible to use.  Having no song previews seems like a poor decision to me, but I don't work for the company.  Having the songs listed in MS points (which haven't been used since September of last year if I recall correctly), being unable to sort the songs (no matter which option is used songs appear in a random order), and not showing all content options (the Blink 182 pack is not listed in the store, but is listed on xbox.com) is just insane.

The point of this post, however, is not to complain about the ineptitude of the developer, although it seems appropriate.  It is to get an idea of how you shop for DLC.  Is the list on the official website comprehensive?  It's infuriating to me that the in-game store is unusable, but I want to explore the DLC options.  The most logical thing I can think of is to go through the list on their website one by one and make some sort of a list for the items I want, then use that list when shopping.  The problem is that this is extremely time consuming, so I was hoping someone here might have a better alternative.

Thank you.

The xbox website is easier to sort. I purchase some songs that way. I also use the sort function in the store and sort by most recent - but I've been using it since the beginning of Rocksmith 1.

I never use the in game store. The sort is completely broken.

The website (and the wiki) have complete lists.

Also, if you want previews, just check the Rocksmith YouTube channel. They do a weekly previe video. Or go watch the riff repeater videos of Eliott playing the songs.

Yeah, the in-game DLC store sucks.

I'm on 360 so I just use the marketplace on the console to shop for the songs.

Don't know how things may be on the PS3 though.

Here's your New DLC Day!!! video

Good thing I grabbed a couple of MS cards during last week's Target sale

Yeah... I'd love to see some Shinedown/Seether/FFDP/Skillet.

Also, hair bands are criminally underrepresented... I don't even need the big ones (Bon Jovi/Def Leppard/Crue/Poison) - I'd take some one/few hit wonders (Tesla/LA Guns/Slaughter/Great White/Kix/White Lion/Quiet Riot)...

Glad I recognize the artist this week. Still not in for this.

Thank you.
I feel the same way. The store is completely broken. Aside from the problems you listed, I also think it's a mess visually. Instead of having that small section of the screen scroll down with names and titles, they should've done a block layout with album covers as pictures and so you could check out artists or songs by alphabetical order. Kind of like how the Bandfuse song selection screen looks. That system would've been way more efficient in my opinion.

Anyway, you hit the nail on the head. If you want to figure out what you're going to buy, you gotta look through a list online and make your decisions that way. I've spent so much time looking through the DLC store for something and leaving empty-handed because I was frustrated by it. They really need to sort that mess out. Some stuff (like you said, the Blink 182 pack) isn't even available in the store and has to be bought online.

Duran Duran this week! No, I really am excited about this one. I can't get enough 80's music...
The obvious choices for this pack are:
Rio
Hungry like the wolf
Girls on film

Although I'd really like to see one if these selections:
Is there something I should know?
Electric barberella
A view to a kill
Falling down

If they put in Rio I'll be picturing a Santa/Jesus duet. Happens every time I hear that song

I just hope they don't bother putting in Ordinary World. It's a good song, but not over and over

Yeah - saw a live version of "View to a Kill" from 2011 and the guitar parts were deceptively cool... The thing is  - both Taylors are incredible players, so the guitar parts (underneath the synth) were really good and the bass parts should be outstanding for the people that play.

I figure Rio, Hungry Like the Wolf and either Girls on Film, Ordinary World or Come Undone...

I was listening to some Duran Duran this morning on the way to work trying to listen specifically to the guitar parts. I never realized how "funk" it is. Good thing they had all the synth work or they may have wound up as disco. They've got some pretty sweet bass lines though

I want it, but do I want it at full price? I was afraid Ordinary World would make the set list. I don't think I'd play it very often

Hey, HEY, hey kids and kidettes!!!  Know what time it is?

It's New DLC Day!!! video time.

This weeks selection is coming all the way from the 80's.  A time of living IN eXceSs, Valley Girls, Kelly LeBrock and  real Idol music.

So here are a few tips prepare:

*One - Flock those seagulls

*Two - Don that Johnson

*Three -Oingo your Boingo

*Four - use Modern English

With that out of the way, take a Day Off FB and join our little breakfast club.

Coming back to this future America, by some sorta of weird science gizmo, here is Duran Duran

Very Cool, but they better not charge full price.

No royalties involved, at least I don't think there would be.

Dan seemed to imply there was something we didn't know, so this very well may be a free pack... I don't know. Seems to me that, without the royalties, they would use in house guys to do it (like the Christmas pack) and they'd just do it as a little bonus for everyone.

The Epiphone Les Paul Special with P90s is once again on sale at Guitar Center for $89:

Yup, I just saw it in my copy of the GC mini-magazine. It's part of their Labor Day sale.

I'd go for these over their twins (humbucker models).

Just understand that these are most likely NEW old-stock, as in they're new but have been sitting around in a warehouse/store for a couple of years. So they might need some TLC.

The mini-mag also has the 2014 Gibson electrics advertised at about 10% off street price. For example the Melody Maker guitars have a street price of 620 and they're advertising 558.

Shouldn't be much longer before all stores start to clear'em out & at deeper discounts

And might as well toss out a few deals from MusiciansFriend.

Not as good as the "free" price some were hoping for, but it works for me since I was going to purchase anyway. $1 per song for what I expect to be some of my favorite songs to play? Sign me up

Yeah - they look great and were recorded in a pretty legendary studio. They put out 3 6 minute videos of behind the scenes stuff for this. They're worth watching...

Free woulda been nice, but I was thinking $1 per song too (for the time they put in to chart it out).

Here's the official video.

I know I'm a noob and all, it's just that I kinda wish they had raunched it up a bit more.

Guess I'm gonna have to do it myself.  I'm putting all the cats in my neighborhood on notice.

So... it's been about a year since I picked RS2014 and I'm just now getting around to playing "Return to Castle Chordead".  And there's just... so... much... CHEEEEEESE.  As in there aren't enough crackers and wine to go with all that cheese.

Yet, I loved every second of it.  Can't believe I've been missing out on it for all this time.

It's like "Typing of the Dead" but with chords (would referenced Rock of the Dead but not many people know it even exists).

Let's see how long my love lasts for this.

You can get a brand new copy of Bandfuse at any gamestop that has it and use the $5 Kongregate coupon to get it for $5.

Also, this week's DLC is Sublime. The group, not a description. :)
