Bestbuy has a separate, two week flier for music gear and they're advertising Rocksmith game bundle+ Epiphone guitar for $199.98 and you get a $50 giftcard with purchase of the game/guitar bundle.

Ad is a bit odd in that they only list sku's for the game bundle and standalone guitar (#2633103, 2633149, 2273055), so they may be doing in-store bundling. Plus they list the game + guitar bundle as a 10 savings over buying everything separate

I'll let the musician CAGs speak to the quality of the guitar;)

Like I said before, seems like they are doing an in-store bundle instead of selling the official Rocksmith guitar kit. Won't know for sure until it's bought

UPDATE #2: deal is definitely an in-store bundle of standalone guitar + game bundle. Guitar is an Epiphone LP jr with a cherryburst finish and no strap or picks are included. Asked about substituting a different guitar model but bundle price won't activate if you switch it out

Well... If you were wondering what the "perk" is for RS 2014 on XB1 or PS4, they announced it today... A 12... 12!!!!... Pack of Hendrix for FREE on PS4 or XB1 on 12/16... The pack will be 19.99 on steam, PS3 or 360, but free on next gen until 1/31/15.


Also, next week's pack leaked on XB1 yesterday and my RS prayers have been answered - a 5 pack of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers is incoming...

I'm totally stoked on this Hendrix deal, Crazedracerguy is saying $19.99 but I'm seeing it for $29.99 from a unofficial source. I'm rooting for you Crazed. I'm nowhere near the level to play Hendrix material but to have to opportunity to chip away at it is so awesome. Rocksmith is becoming more and more a viable method of learning guitar with addition of such legendary ground breaking artists who shaped the rock genre scene. Keep them comin'.

I don't know when new gen RS2014 is/was supposed to release, but they had ps4 versions out on the sales floor at best buy last night. Saw it when I went in to get the "$14.99 phone plus 2 year gamer club unlocked" deal
 
Like others, im going to wait for a discount before upgrading to next gen. I looked on Best Buys website for shiggles and it looks like they only have the version with the cable. Is the standalone game GS exclusive again?
 
The Hendrix pack is a nice upgrade perk, but not enough for me... though I guess I should upgrade to a next-gen console before making that call ;)

 
I just gave away my PS3 copy of the original RS. I had bought it about a year ago with my friend's kid in mind in case he ever got a guitar. He finally saved up and got one (with my help shopping). I was a hero, but until he got his guitar it was nice knowing I had a backup cable. I don't need a cable, but if I get an Xbox One, I'll probably spring for the disc/cable version. I like physical media and I'll keep the spare in a drawer. It should be on sale before the end of January anyway (I want free Hendrix). Especially since it would be a rebuy for many and I don't see it flying off the shelves. Even 2014 was ~$30 at Amazon just after thanksgiving last year when it had just come out
 
I have a couple hundred bucks in BB GCs, but I'm gonna wait for a sale at bb I amazin to match. I still have 2 new copies of RS1 that were picked up on the cheap over the years, and I'm wireless, so I'm still on cable #1.

I'd like tongi digital, but I'm more likely to see a physical sale first. I'm not a Hendrix fan, so that's not a real perk for me. I do like to get games I'll play forever digitally, though. If I find a path to cheap XBL cash, I'll likely cave on he digital version.
 
I could get into the digital version if it was discounted. We'll see.. maybe there will be a sale around BF. If the game went down in price to around $30 it would basically offset the price of the pack and I could buy it just to have the game on my X1.

Not only are they crazy looking, but they just so happen to be the same colors in the same orders as Rocksmith's colors. Any newbies to the game might want to consider them. They are currently on sale for about $7.50

Amazing find there. I was thinking about colored strings like that back when the game first launched and how my girlfriend kept confusing which was which... I'll definitely be grabbing a pack or two to throw on a cheapo guitar for newcomers to try out.

That is an incredibly cool find. As someone thinking about getting into Rocksmith, how often if ever do large DLC bundles go on sale? I frequently see the thread updated with small packs or new releases, but nothing substantial in terms of DLC discounts.

They don't. Like, ever. The Steam version of the game gets DLC sales all the time, not so much for the consoles.

 
OK, so seeing the pathetic BF deals on consoles pretty much convinced me to keep the X1 I grabbed from BB this weekend. Now I'm on the hunt for a deal on the X1 version of Rocksmith :D .

So it looks like it's sorta like a scrolling playback for you to play along to... No scoring or input tracking, in other words.

Not bad really, but if they can do Remote Play for the PS4, they should be able to stream to a smartphone or tablet for the same functionality (plus make it available for X1).

 
Anybody try to play today? I played for a few minutes in the morning and it worked fine. I come home later in the day and it (2014) continuously freezer after loading my file. At first I was afraid that it was my Xbox going out since I had frequent freezes with the original on my last Xbox with "open tray" disc read errors. Popped in the original and continued to fail to get my last few achievements for half an hour or so and determined it's something fishy with 2014. After fighting with it for a while I finally disconnected from Live and *presto* I could finally play again. Don't know what's going on with it, but I'm not alone. The complaints have started rolling in on their Facebook page.
 
Yeah - and my copy is a 360 digital copy, so I can't get in at all if I'm not connected to XBL, so I am completely out until they fix the issue. And in Tom Petty week. fuckers.

You should be able to play a digital copy offline, as long as you're using the same console you originally downloaded it to. If you switched it to a new console, then you have to do a license migration on the xbox.com website, I think.

 
Yeah, I want to say I've played my digital games off line before. Shouldn't be an issue as far as that goes. Now I guess the issue for you, Crazed, would be if you have already downloaded the Petty tracks or not
 
Before I sold my 360 I also had to make sure I was not online in order to play or it would freeze constantly. Something with it looking for a connection from what I read online.

I got the ps4 version and was bummed to discover none of the first game content is available to download yet, and none of the old dlc is available to download yet. They sold it with all these promises but it turns out its all still in pipeline. Lame.

 
Finally some sort of explanation has been given. This is from the boards:
"The launch of AC Unity had an impact on the Uplay servers, and that impact filtered down to us. Since the 360 looks to Uplay when it starts up, if Uplay isn't functioning correctly, then neither will the game. "

It's crazy that Assassins Creed is responsible for bringing down my Rocksmith, but apparently it is. I guess the assassins don't limit their victims to historical figures after all
 
Yikes, that does sound screwy.  Makes me hesitant to want to go digital only. 

Never would've thought AC could bork RS, especially over something as dumb as Uplay

This is right up your alley, then. There is a lot of strumming. I'd rate them all between 1 and 2 stars on a 5 star difficulty scale. I got 103% on "I Wont Back Down" on the 3rd play through.

Oh - you said bass... Still 1-2 stars.

Let me know if you find a good one. I've been looking for a reason to upgrade, especially since you get the Hendrix songs for free, but I don't want to spend 60 bucks on it.

It's basically pointless. If you have a laptop or a computer you can just go on riff repeater's youtube page and play along to the note charts. It's no different than that. You won't be able to plug in your guitar and get feedback or scores on it.

Just placed an order for the Assassins Creed Xbox One through hhgregg for 311.49. Now I just need to get a copy of RS 2014 on the cheap for the free Hendrix pack. I know DLC is forward compatible, but does anyone know if it's backwards compatible? That is, if I get Hendrix for free on the One, will I have access to it on my 360? I sure hope so
 
Nope. The free Hendrix DLC will only show on your X1. Already verified by Dan. If you want to use ANY DLC on the 360 after you get RS1 on the X1, you need to buy it on the 360.

Also, you have to get the free Hendrix DLC from the in game store, so you'll have to have the game to get it (you won't be able to just get it from the XBL marketplace).

Crazedracerguy covered it, but to clarify: DLC is only cross-compatible from last-gen to current gen. If you want to have DLC on both platforms, you'll want to buy it on your PS3/360 first, because buying it on PS4 or X1 means you have to pay twice.

Also, if anyone somehow didn't know, DLC is only cross-compatible in the same console family

The Hendrix DLC is a bit disappointing in that it's only being given to PS4/X1 owners, but that's the incentive to upgrade since there's little difference otherwise.
 
At that price I'm willing to bite for the PS4 version. I just don't want to waste my time going there if they only have one or two copies per store. Sorry if this is an obvious question, but do any stores price match on Black Friday?

I'll also cross my fingers for Amazon to discount it.

My plan (assuming my store shows stock) is going on Wednesday or Thursday and asking for a copy to be held until the weekend and picking it up Friday.
 
You guys probably know. I have Rocksmith 2014 for the PS3. I just obtained the original Rocksmith -- mainly to create a save file and then be able to import those songs into 2014 (I've deleted my save files for 2014). I'm attempting to restart my 2014 game but I broke a string on my guitar, so I haven't gotten all the way through the tuning process. I haven't received an option, yet, to import those songs. Is that option still available? Or does it come after I finish tuning my guitar. Or has the option to import songs from the original Rocksmith expired?

If I recall correctly, all you do is go to the in-game store in RS2014 and buy the "export pack" or whatever it's called. I think it just reads for trophy data to see if you own the original

Interesting; please let me know if that works. I was under the assumption that they wouldn't allow that, otherwise everyone would run to the store and put a bunch of hot sale items on layaway or whatever so they can avoid limited availability and crowds.

I doubt that's going to work, but lucky for me RS isn't the hottest item in my area. People would rather play CoD or whatever instead of learn an instrument. I don't know if $50 is a good price though. Something tells me it'll be on sale lower by the time December nears its end.

That really is disappointing and might be enough to discourage me from upgrading to 2014 on Xbox One. I was already hesitant because my stereo doesn't have an optical jack. I know that eventually my 360 will get retired to another room in the house so I wanted to have it on the One at some point. But by the time I do that they may have a genuine sequel out. $30 of free dlc would be nice, but not if I have to pay such a premium for the software.

Found another drawback of upgrading. From the forums:
What about the free holiday pack DLC that was issued in 2011 -- will that be available on Xbox One and PS4?

I got all excited at first. Your post had me thinking that it was for a skatecaster1, which is a much, much better guitar. I passed on that for $200 when they had the stupid deal of the hour a while back, but wouldn't hesitate for $100. If you NEED a guitar to start you out I suppose this would be fine but I don't see anything great about it. Btw, current price is showing $299 now
 
I think it's $299 for the flat black or grey, and $399 for the trans red, the nicer finish.  For $99, seems nicer than those ephipone LP specials that keep going on sale.  But I don't NEED a starter guitar... I already have two that mostly sit and collect dust.  :cool:  But hey, a new one will make me want to play more, right?!?

 
I've got a bad case of the Destiny's right now... keeps me from touching a guitar, sleeping right, having a life...

All these years of nothing getting it's hooks into me other than RS; figured something would eventually grab me just didn't know it would be this and it's  fuck  BS, rng system :bomb:

So RS is just gonna hafta share a bed with Destiny for a while.  I'm sure I'll get back in the groove once I balance things out.

Might help if someone starts up a weekly tourney... anyone... hellooo, anyone...  Bueller... Bueller... anyone...
