Salty I need to re-do my profile in CAG4.0
As the original deal morphed into a game deal and guitar advice thread, I decided to place the original BB deal behind spoiler tags for a reference point. And I listed the current deals below. The guitar purchase is the most difficult part for us beginners, so read the advice in the thread

Too busy to read the entire thread? Then try these following posts for the guitar advice. Thanks to SmileyMcSmiles for all the help :applause:

Guitar+Bass Version*****

Original Version*****

Original DEAL behind this Spoiler
Bestbuy has a separate, two week flier for music gear and they're advertising Rocksmith game bundle+ Epiphone guitar for $199.98 and you get a $50 giftcard with purchase of the game/guitar bundle.

Ad is a bit odd in that they only list sku's for the game bundle and standalone guitar (#2633103, 2633149, 2273055), so they may be doing in-store bundling. Plus they list the game + guitar bundle as a 10 savings over buying everything separate

I'll let the musician CAGs speak to the quality of the guitar;)

UPDATE: Bestbuy finally got the site updated with the offer.
Link Dead
Like I said before, seems like they are doing an in-store bundle instead of selling the official Rocksmith guitar kit. Won't know for sure until it's bought

UPDATE #2: deal is definitely an in-store bundle of standalone guitar + game bundle. Guitar is an Epiphone LP jr with a cherryburst finish and no strap or picks are included. Asked about substituting a different guitar model but bundle price won't activate if you switch it out

Thanks for the comments. I been trying to practice as much as possible, except when my fingers get really blistered, but it's part of playing. I can learn the stuff on my own, hell I learned my own profession on my own so I am used to that. I was just looking at pontential options to maximize my learning potential. I guess I know I really want to learn so it's just I want to make sure I am in the right direction.

With that said, anyone know of any good ways to stretch your fingers like exercises?

Quick questions:

1. Am I able to use the USB cable from RS for Xbox 360 on the PS4 version?

2. Can I transfer my downloaded songs from 360 to PS4? I know you can within the same ecosystem, but didn't know if you could cross. It was done with Diablo so I'm hoping...

1. Yes

Rock and Roll, Hootchie Koo has some great riffage and is pretty fun to play, too :
Did not know it was that involved. Then again that song was made back in the days Derringer was playing with Edgar and Johnny Winter.

Speaking of, Rocksmith needs Johnny Winter, hell Rocksmith needs Blues artists. There is a distinct lack of it besides Hendrix and even then Hendrix is a blues/rock combo.

Learn the 12 bar blues pattern. You just learned thousands of blues songs. ;)

I'd like to see some blues stuff added, but I'm pretty particular about my blues. Some Keb'Mo would kick ass, though.

I think Robert Johnson's stuff is in the public domain. I'd like to see the RS team do a pack of blues like they did classical...

Actually, I see that Robert Johnson's copyright status is fraught with craziness... Still... Making old blues updated and electric would be cool as shit for the RS team.

Would love some classic Robert Johnson. I have the BB King and Albert King songs and yeah some of Jimi's stuff is very bluesy but RS could certainly use more. An SRV pack is sorely missing from the game.

I must admit, for a beginner bass learning song, Savior by Rise Against is pretty good. It's not as fast as some punk songs but it's fast enough. The song isn't that hard either, but there is a lot of notes.

Blistered my fingers to 92% on that one.

Also bought a Bass Book for like $6 off Amazon. Going to go through that to learn core concepts and go from there. I am learning well, and this book should give me the extra info I need plus some theory.

NOTE: Hendrix songs are free for those who updgraded from 360/PS3 versions of Rocksmith 2014 to the X1/PS4 versions.
I think this is miswritten. You don't have to literally "upgrade" as that would imply that you would have needed the 360/ps3 versions prior to 2014 and would have had to go through some upgrade process. You don't. All you need is Rocksmith 2014.

Would've been easier just to say "the free downloads will only appear in R2014.

So I've now played each Rage Against the Machine song on lead. I really enjoyed them a lot. Even Renegades of Funk was alright, and I've never been a very big fan of that song. Sad to report, however, that they are edited. I don't really get that. I get it if they were on disc, but DLC is not esrb rated.

Figured they'd be edited. I think the only f word that has ever been released was one of the first Pearl Jam songs. They later went back and released an edited version of that, too...

Honestly they should offer both options. You buy one, you get a choice. That sucks.

Then again I think if someone is old enough to know how to play Rocksmith, I would assume they are old enough for the bad language.

That should be an in-game option in the Rocksmith menu. Have it set to filter bad words as a default to satisfy all the angry parents with kiddies. For the rest of us we should have the choice to go in and take the filter off for any and all DLC featuring language. I don't know why Ubi is being so uptight about this. They have to realize it's not just children playing their game, they have a wide audience of all ages.

The labels give them the version they use. Dan has said that before. Hence the alt takes of a couple of he songs and the abrupt cut off of some (single version versus regular).

Can someone recommend some fun beginner dlc? I'd like to get some songs from the ps4 10% off sale. The only genre I'm not a fan of is metal. Thanks!

No Rain - Blind Melon
Barracuda - Heart
Smoke On The Water

I don't know. Best advice I can give is find a couple of songs that you've always loved. Far easier to learn a song that you know by heart than to learn a song you've never heard.

Grab a list of the DLC that was released while the original RS was out. Most of those songs seem to be a little simpler than usual. Also import the original game. Personally I also like the Black Keys songs from the original game and from the DLC releases. They're usually fun to play and pretty simple. There's also a Dan Auerbach song from the original (he's the lead guitar/singer of Black Keys) so check that out.

PS4 import pack is available now in the in-game shop under "rocks". I grabbed the RATM, Sublime and Linkin Park tracks with the discount. I think I am done buying dlc for some time.

Thinking my first DLC packs will be The Who, The Doors and Megadeth followed by Maiden once I am considerably better. Starting with The Who or Doors then moving onto Megadeth and finally Maiden once my fingers can attempt to stomach Steve's crazy speed bass playing. Also do I need a RS1 disk or copy to import or can I just buy the whole package off the PSN Store?

Thoughts on The Who and Doors pack?

The Doors pack is very good. I enjoyed playing the songs. Still waiting for Ubisoft to fix the import issue so I can get my pack. I'm not paying for it twice.  :nottalking:

Does anyone else notice a significant difference in the "engine" between Rocksmith and Rocksmith 2014?

I have been putting off picking up the Rocksmith 2014 DLC for transferring the Rocksmith songs to Rocksmith 2014 because it seemed an unecessary expense. However, switching back to Rocksmith after a month of 2014, the detection seems off and there seems to be an audio delay that throws me off sometimes, even though I have calibrated the lag. Am I just imagining this?

I am on PC by the way, but my machine is highly OPed for both Rocksmith reqs.

Am I just imagining this?

I am on PC by the way, but my machine is highly OPed for both Rocksmith reqs.
Yes, the OG RS was virtually unplayable. It was slow, the note highway and overall look/feel of the gameplay was not good. The loading times were abhorrent. The 2014 edition is much better. Get the import if you can because the OG setlist is very good, especially for beginners. A lot of really great simple songs are available.

^ Seconded. The menu system was beyond annoying too. And the mini-games were almost useless. And no more dlc support past the release of 2014. And...

Yup, menu system sucked and the load times (oh those load times)...  But I do miss Journey/Concert progress.

And I'd say Scale Runner was by-far, the best mini-game of the bunch.

Here's hoping they implement those 2 features back into whatever new RS game gets released.

Yeah RS's journey mode was not very good to be honest, but it was something. I never understood why they decided to do away with it completely in 2014. I for one would love some sort of progression within a story mode in the game. I would love to create my own band and rocker, travel around and play different gigs, rise to the top, etc. They could make it very fun. As a gamer I enjoy progress like that. I really hope they do something like this in the next installment.

Exactly.

I mean, the concert venues weren't perfect, but it was fun to just hop into it and go.

RS2014 gives us more control over things but it's missing that "cruise control" option where I can start and just go without tinkering with settings.

I agree. While I like the technicals of RS 2014 better, the experience is kind of soulless. Yesterday, I got a message saying I had access to a bigger venue and I don't even know what that means. I also really liked how that progress graph in RS would spike up after a concert. Oh well.

Anyways, I bought the DLC to transfer last night and playing feels much better on the songs I was concerned about, so thanks to everyone for the tip on that.

Oh lord help me I'm going to try and do the import on my ps4. So I gotta do it on my ps3 first...this is so nutty, but I'm glad I still kept the game disks for ps3 and didnt already ebay them....

While not incredibly difficult, Love Song has a lengthy finger picked intro. Have we seen many fingerpicking songs? Guess More than Words would be fingerpicked as well

OK, I've been incredibly lazy setting up my X1 version of Rocksmith.

Just did it last night and got the Hendrix dlc.

BUT, couldn't figure out how to get all my prior dlc (RS1 import, dlc purchases, x-mas songs).

Is this still a problem??? Or did I just miss a setting/prompt.

BTW,  free "Hendrix songs" time is almost up.  Get off your butt and download today :bouncy:

A lot of your DLC won't transfer over yet. They have a problem with the associations. If you're a real cheapassgamer, though, you can go through the list one by one and get some free dlc. I got 41 tracks that I didn't buy for free...

Yup, did that already ;) .

But it was thru the website instead of the in-game store.  Have no idea if I really did get those freebies.

Looking thru the in-game store last night only showed me songs with prices next to it, save for the free Hendrix songs

What crazedracerguy said is true, some of the associations are off and it will give you free songs. It's all random and some people are luckier than others. I only got 11 songs not 41 but it's worth a shot just going through the list. The packs you bought on 360 will most likely not transfer. None of mine did. Under one of the pack choices is the RS1 import so you can get that.

Man this sucks, I got the 360 version however when I play for about an hour my left wrist tends to cramp up pretty bad. I unfortunately got into an accident where my left wrist never got to heal very well so I can assume that this is my problem. Is there any tips to help me combat my busted wrist so I can actually enjoy this game?

Try doing some warmups before playing. Something basic on each string such as

1234....
1243....

And go through each variation to help the fingers/wrist get used to the neck. (Assuming right hand guitar)

You may also need to adjust the location of your thumb on the neck.

Try angling your guitar so the neck is closer towards your head. Also hold it a little bit closer towards the top of your body. Not everyone can play with a relaxed axe like Jimmy Page, so tighten that strap. Try holding your thumb so the tip of it is only halfway up on the back of the neck. I assume you don't have huge Jimi Hendrix hands so you shouldn't be using your thumb at all on the strings.

Don't worry you're not the only one. My wrist cramps up too sometimes if I play a while, but lately I've noticed it's gotten better. You get used to it.

Power Ballad Singles ($2.99/song)
•Boston “Amanda” – Drop D [Bass]
•Cinderella “Don’t Know What You Got (Till it’s Gone)”
•Extreme “More Than Words” – Eb Standard
•Poison “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” – Eb Standard
•Tesla “Love Song”

Even though I already know how to play Tesla, I'll definitely pick it up just for quick access to the tone. I'll definitely skip More Than Words since it's easy to learn outside of the game and doesn't have a stand out tone. Have to think about the others, maybe Poison just for the solo part/tone
