Salty I need to re-do my profile in CAG4.0
As the original deal morphed into a game deal and guitar advice thread, I decided to place the original BB deal behind spoiler tags for a reference point. And I listed the current deals below. The guitar purchase is the most difficult part for us beginners, so read the advice in the thread

Too busy to read the entire thread? Then try these following posts for the guitar advice. Thanks to SmileyMcSmiles for all the help :applause:
>>guitar advice, initial posts #26, 34, 35
>>guitar accessories, initial posts #49, 51, 56

This should help get you started.

Guitar+Bass Version*****

Original Version*****

Original DEAL behind this Spoiler
Bestbuy has a separate, two week flier for music gear and they're advertising Rocksmith game bundle+ Epiphone guitar for $199.98 and you get a $50 giftcard with purchase of the game/guitar bundle.

Ad is a bit odd in that they only list sku's for the game bundle and standalone guitar (#2633103, 2633149, 2273055), so they may be doing in-store bundling. Plus they list the game + guitar bundle as a 10 savings over buying everything separate

I'll let the musician CAGs speak to the quality of the guitar;)

UPDATE: Bestbuy finally got the site updated with the offer.
Link Dead
Like I said before, seems like they are doing an in-store bundle instead of selling the official Rocksmith guitar kit. Won't know for sure until it's bought

UPDATE #2: deal is definitely an in-store bundle of standalone guitar + game bundle. Guitar is an Epiphone LP jr with a cherryburst finish and no strap or picks are included. Asked about substituting a different guitar model but bundle price won't activate if you switch it out

Bought Rage Against the Machine on 360 about a week ago. Logged into my One today. Not only are my old DLC songs still not there, but the RATM songs are not there either. I thought that the new stuff being released was supposed to be sorted out. Apparently not. So no songs at all are making their way forward yet? I am disappoint.

My latest problem is first off stretching my fingers to hit the four notes on the fretboard and second off train my mind to play two notes at once.

Last night my mind could not translate to my fingers to do that, have to figure this out.

Once I can master that I will be buying some DLC.

My main issue is arpeggios. And pinch harmonics. But I've gotten much better at both recently. I think I'm up to 4 songs over 100%, but Ive got a bunch of them over 90%. I just don't consider 100% to be much of a goal. My goal is knowledge of the song and then changing parts to make it sound better when I play it.

Some of us have been waiting over 2+ months for them to sort out the pack transfers. Welcome to the club my friend. I decided to exact my revenge by buying the PC version of the game so I can have access to customs. I will continue to support artists I really like but I must say I'm enjoying having access to music I know will never be on that game. Even bands that are not well known or really random are available.

You should get a bass guitar. The frets are a lot bigger than on a guitar so it's a very good warmup exercise if you ask me. To me the guitar neck feels so small when I jump back on it from bass. All in all you will get used to it. Muscle memory takes time to develop.

I don't consider the "100% mastery" a goal either. I've hit it a couple times and it was nice and all but the smallest thing can trip you up in the game. Sometimes the note detection in the game is off just a bit or it doesn't recognize a bend all the way or so on. In real life if you were playing the song at over 90% accuracy you would pretty much be playing it perfectly. The game doesn't account for you putting your own flair into it. If songs were meant to be played exactly like they were recorded in-studio we wouldn't have so many "Live" albums from well-known bands. Sometimes it's nice not to be spot on. I for one appreciate little changes.

Oh I've been waiting and waiting too. I got my One copy on Black Friday. None of my dlc has transfered. But here in this forum someone had made the comment that dlc since the new console versions had been sorted out. So I was going off that when I made the decision to buy RATM. I would have waited otherwise

Yeah no they really haven't. Ubisoft did make random announcements here and there about how it had been fixed but it was all hogwash. Apparently the issues are on MS's end but it's still quite unacceptable for either company to do this 3 months into the game's release. Not good.

And it's weird, I was able to get all my singles to transfer but none of the packs. Any new DLC I bought afterward were just on the X1 so never knew if those would have issues or not.

A heads up to anyone thinking about buying the new Cinderella dlc song...don't.

Quite a few people are reporting problems with it. Some are saying their game is now completely unplayable on Xbox One, while others have bought the song and it just doesn't show up. I fall in that camp. Bought Tesla and Cinderella on PS4, but only Tesla shows up. The store acknowledges that I bought it, just doesn't show up in any game mode. So far they have not responded to any facebook posts, tweets, or forum reports.

I have a Bass actually and it's what I been trying to practice on. I just need to keep at it.

Leak from EU PSN of upcoming tracks.

Guessing this might be next week, but date is not yet confirmed.

Jane’s Addiction - 5 Pack
Been Caught Stealing
Jane Says
Just Because
Mountain Song
Superhero

How did it take so long for Seether to get a pack especially with only three songs. They were promoting the game before it even came out back in 2011. Better late then never but I was really hoping for more songs. They have plenty of good material as far as im concerned.

Uh oh.. guess we won't be seeing this for a while. Remember what happened when the Rage pack leaked on Xbox Live?

By the way, do you guys think it's about time we change up the title of this thread? Jimi DLC is long gone as a freebie. We don't want to confuse any newcomers.

That's a lot of features for $200. Nice looking axe.
Yeah, I picked up one for my youngest nephew. It should make for a nice entry level guitar. I gave his brothers their first guitars. So, I figured I should do the same for him. I passed along previous guitars of my own to them, but I don't want to part with anything I currently have.

Musiciansfriend has the Epiphone Limited Edition Genesis Deluxe Pro for $199 + free shipping. It is a steal at this price.

I saw this a bit earlier, and thought the Ebony looked real nice... but I waited an hour or so because I was still busy at work. Refreshed the page, and the Ebony is sold out, all that's left is the Sunburst. Not as nice looking, and the same color finish as my Les Paul. Just can't justify buying another Epiphone in sunburst. Strangely, they have a mint open box in blue Sapphire, but for $262 - apparently 12% off the prior $299 price. I called, they won't update that price. I'd buy it at $199 (or even better, 12% off $199) but they refused. Oh, well.

I'd buy it at $199 (or even better, 12% off $199) but they refused. Oh, well.
You see that a lot on there. The new stuff can get a big discount and the used/open-box stuff sits there at a higher price.

Anyway, remember seeing this a few days ago, but at $250. Good price but didn't think it was good enough to post.

The 200 price makes me wish I had fewer guitars so I could add it to the herd :)

It's sold out now, so much easier to resist temptation. lol. All that's left is the restocks for the higher price, the discounted new ones are all gone.

Heavily looking into getting this to Learn guitar. I am debating how much to invest in my first guitar though... Kinda wish I had picked up that deal posted on the last page when it was available

Don't invest a lot when you're just starting out. Reason is, you honestly won't know the difference. After you put some work into it and you get better, it'll be an awesome feeling upgrading to something better and you can actually appreciate the difference. That $130 LP is perfect if you can swing it.

If you decide to go with this, purchase it from here

You can call a rep and they will probably apply the promo code presday18w for 18% off. This will bring the guitar down to ~$107. You can buy an E-certificate for 14% off. The guitar should only cost you around $92 shipped. I did this already for a new pedal. You end up saving about 30%. Best of luck.

Went with the Les Paul Special II by epiphone. Games a ton of fun so far, great teaching tool
Just remember to stick with it. Believe it or not it becomes a lot more fun once you get over that hump where your fingers don't quite do what your brain wants them to. I just had a session today and played a few RS1 songs I never tried before and was surprised at how easily I was able to play them on my first attempt. I was even having fun with it and doing some stage moves while I played. If you would've seen me playing this game a year ago it would've been me just sitting there concentrating super hard on the notes. It's definitely a game that grows on you the more you play it.

Random Venting: Bought Wonderwall by Oasis without realizing that it required a capo to play. That should definitely be more clear on the listing of the Xbox store (unless it was but I didn't read it thoroughly).

Regarding dlc songs, do they tend to go on sale? Is it mostly release date sales or are they just kinda random. I have plenty to play for now but im sure ill want some more sooner or later

For console it is essentially never on sale.

There were some sales on the old DLC during the short time between when they stopped releasing content for the first version and the time Rocksmith 2014 was launched ... and that is pretty much it.

Buy the Planet Waves Lite Capo on Amazon it's only 5 or 6 bucks and it's very good quality. I wouldn't go for those 2 dollar ones, they tend to break easily from what I hear or they don't quite grip the strings evenly enough. Overall not a bad investment if you plan on learning more songs outside of RS. Every guitarist should own a capo.

Yeah - I think Wonderwall is te only one. You wouldn't know unless you looked at riff repeater or somewhere else.
Matchbox 20's 3AM also requires a capo. I think one of the Rolling Stones songs has an alt arrangement with a capo. Maybe some more DLC as well I don't really remember. It's not a huge necessity for this game but I would own one anyway.

Nope. Last time they did was a random one shot where a few random songs had a $1 discount each. No reason was even given for it. Before that it was during the RS1 days after they stopped releasing DLC every week, they would put up random songs on sale. I doubt they'll be doing that anytime soon since they have plenty more DLC to release.

Does anyone have first-hand knowledge of this game working fine when using a 7-string guitar? Obviously, I wouldn't be using the low B string. But does a 7-pole pickup have any negative effect?

edit:

The game is designed to work with 6-string guitars. 7 and 8 string obviously have additional strings that would need to be ignored to play the game. As long as you hit the notes Rocksmith asks for, you’ll be ok. We have tested the game with active pickups and as long as you calibrate properly (by simply playing the Soundcheck) they worked fine.

I want a Fender Standard Telecaster, but I don't think I can afford one. Has anyone picked up one of the Squier Telecasters and regretted it?

It won't be my main instrument, since I prefer bass, but I like having an option to change it up and don't want something awful.

Some of the Classic Vibe Telecasters are just as good as the MIM Telecasters. The Affinity Telecasters are garbage. Just my 2 cents.

Sorry for the lack of specifics, but I am referring to these two models in particular:

The $300 Vintage Modified:

Versus the $500 Standard Telecaster:

I played both in store and didn't feel much difference between them, but the guy there said the issues between those will be the kind of thing that manifets long term, less than the kind of thing I could tell in the store.

The only thing I have against the Vintage Modified Squire Tele is the headstock - that's not a traditional Tele headstock, with its distinctive, thin profile.  But that's a little thing and a personal preference.

I've never owned one, but I've heard the same thing Kerouac said: The Affinity series (the entry level that goes for around $179 retail) are not very good, but the nicer Squires, the various Vintage series (that retail for around $299-$379), are said to be very nice and a great value.

Got to practice for about three hours today. Was feeling pretty badass about doing slides until it changed from a note to a chord and my hand went stupid. This game really drip feeds the encouragement though, if I wasn't bone tired id keep playing

I have a RS problem. Game is fine, but the song selection that comes with RS 2014 is starting to make me want new stuff. Problem is most of the stuff in the RS store are hits and I really don't want to play most hits, lol.

I guess I need to really dig deep in the store to find DLC I really want. I just have no motivation to play a lot of the popular stuff. Then again when listening to music my favorite genre is Prog Rock/Metal so I understand why I feel this way, lol.

This is why I went with the PC version. The customsforge.com database is huge (11,000+ songs) with a huge variety of songs from hits to the obscure.

I was just about to recommend this. For Bass, the problem is that a lot of the cool songs are pretty simple to play. With Customs Forge, I was able to pick up stuff like Ling Tosite Sigure, which have some crazy bass parts.

It was super easy to set up on PC. The only down side is that you don't have gradual progression for most songs and the riff repeater is a bit finnicky when working with custom tracks. At that point though, it becomes just like working with tabs.

Edit - Just saw that the Guitar Center sale has been extended, so I think I am going to bite on a Squier Tele. I only played the Standard in store, because they were out of the other models.

Do you all have any recommendations between these? The guitar stuff I am looking to play will be punk along the lines of Rancid and The Clash with some Emo/Screamo/Hardcore/Postcore bands from my high school days like Billy Talent and Sum 41:

Unfortunately, I won't have the time to make it to a GC that actually has any of these in stock, so I will be ordering online.

Do you have the Mastodon pack yet? It's only a few songs, but at least it's prog metal.
