Salty I need to re-do my profile in CAG4.0
As the original deal morphed into a game deal and guitar advice thread, I decided to place the original BB deal behind spoiler tags for a reference point. And I listed the current deals below. The guitar purchase is the most difficult part for us beginners, so read the advice in the thread

Too busy to read the entire thread? Then try these following posts for the guitar advice. Thanks to SmileyMcSmiles for all the help :applause:

Guitar+Bass Version*****

Original Version*****

Original DEAL behind this Spoiler
Bestbuy has a separate, two week flier for music gear and they're advertising Rocksmith game bundle+ Epiphone guitar for $199.98 and you get a $50 giftcard with purchase of the game/guitar bundle.

Ad is a bit odd in that they only list sku's for the game bundle and standalone guitar (#2633103, 2633149, 2273055), so they may be doing in-store bundling. Plus they list the game + guitar bundle as a 10 savings over buying everything separate

I'll let the musician CAGs speak to the quality of the guitar;)

UPDATE: Bestbuy finally got the site updated with the offer.
Link Dead
Like I said before, seems like they are doing an in-store bundle instead of selling the official Rocksmith guitar kit. Won't know for sure until it's bought

UPDATE #2: deal is definitely an in-store bundle of standalone guitar + game bundle. Guitar is an Epiphone LP jr with a cherryburst finish and no strap or picks are included. Asked about substituting a different guitar model but bundle price won't activate if you switch it out

So here's something interesting...

Those Gibson Firebird zero guitars are getting exclusive runs at different retailers. They've gone from one single flavor to four.

-Guitar Center family of stores have Pelham Blue & Black
-Sam Ash stores have Gold Mist
-American Musical/Zzounds has a faded Pelham Blue

Remember, these are made in USA and priced at $500
Damn... I'm not a Gibson person, but I may have to bite on one of those... The Pelham Blue nitro finish is beautiful. I actually like it even better than the gold mist... I wonder how I could sneak that into the guitar pile... Hmmm...

Couple more deals from the Musicians Friend sale:

-Les Paul hardshell case @ $40

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessories/musicians-gear-mc22lp-deluxe-hardshell-case

-2 pack of instrument cables @ $16

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessories/musicians-gear-instrument-cable-2-pack

-acoustic guitar hardshell case @ $40

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessories/musicians-gear-deluxe-classical-guitar-case#productDetail

LOL. If I wasn't planning a different purchase, I'd be getting one.

As it is, I'll just have to wait for BlackFriday2017... maybe they'll pop up as a $300-350 doorbuster somewhere ;)

Guitar Center's Black Friday ad got posted, then pulled. LOL.

Anyway it's currently up here (let's see for how long):

https://www.bfads.net/stores/guitar-center/ads/black-friday

Pretty disappointing.

For guitars you've got a couple models from last year's BF sale, only priced $10 cheaper.

Epiphone Les Paul Special I, with humbuckers @ $79 (only black or cherry, it seems)

http://www.guitarcenter.com/Epiphone/Limited-Edition-Les-Paul-Special-I-Electric-Guitar.gc

I personally would pass on this and get the P90 version on sale at Musicians Friend ($99 and they have tv yellow).

Plus the P90 should have a mahogany body and neck, where the humbucker version has basswood body/mahogany neck.  The humbucker ones were made during a rough patch (anyone remember torrified maple fretboards)

Squier Bullet HSS layout @$100 (surf pearl, black, sunburst)

http://www.guitarcenter.com/Squier/Bullet-Stratocaster-with-Tremolo-HSS.gc

Been this price in the past for non-BF sales, so... meh.

Rogue Deluxe Rocketeer @ $59 (grayburst or sunburst)

http://www.guitarcenter.com/Rogue/Rocketeer-Deluxe-Electric-guitar.gc

No experience at all with the model.

Musician's Gear cables 2-pack for $16

http://www.guitarcenter.com/Musicians-Gear/Instrument-Cable-2-Pack.gc

They're already on sale at this price on Musicians Friend, so again... meh.

Good guitar for the price. I bought it in grayburst for $75 this past spring and played quite a bit of it before upgrading. Haven't played it since I bought my Strat, but if someone wanted to try guitar without committing much of an investment, I would totally recommend it. Looks much nicer in person than in the photos, too.

5 pack of Stevie Ray Vaughn incoming... I'm not even gonna pretend to buy it. He's about 3 light years ahead of my playing on a good day...

"Pride and Joy"

"Texas Flood"
"Cold Shot"
"Scuttle Buttin'"
"Couldn't Stand the Weather"

If you still don't have one, you really should pick up a clip-on tuner.  Simple handy device to have.

Here's a Stupid Deal of the Day for one:

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/stupid?icid=210190

VOX clip on tuner for $8 (normally 30).

BTW, still no Sam Ash BF.

Damn thing is taking forever to get leaked... either that or no one cares. lol.

My thoughts exactly. While I do like playing Albert King's/Stevie's Born Under a Bad Sign, that one is a bit slower. I just don't think I would have any fun playing this pack, as majestic as it is. Rock on SRV, maybe one day I'll be playing along.

Anyone know where to find a cheap copy of the original Rocksmith at? I bought the 2014 remastered recently for the ps4 but really want the original songs. Apparently I can't buy the import pack unless I get a trophy for the original first, so if anyone can help I'd appreciate it!

Try buying a used copy on Amazon. I bought a used copy of the original Rocksmith on Xbox 360 last month for about $8 shipped. That plus the price of the import tool wasn't bad to get all of the songs from the original game. Ebay may also be an option but I didn't look there.

Didn't see this posted here, sorry if it's already been discussed.  $799 is a chunk of change, but a very nice price for an American-made Deluxe Stratocaster Plus that includes a high-end case.

http://www.adorama.com/fe118110710.html?sdtid=9149935&emailprice=t&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_source=rflaid62905

You have to use the link with the affiliate code, which will hopefully show up OK on CAG.  Just looking this guitar up at Adorama gives you the standard $1199 clearance price.  Don't try to change colors/materials, the sale is for this specific guitar and if you change the options Adorama may show you lower-end Stratocasters (i.e. the Standard) in the same price range, so watch out for that.

Thoughts on one of Amazon's deal of the day?

Epiphone Les Paul SPECIAL-II Electric Guitar, Ebony, with Rocksmith 2014 Edition Remastered - XB1/PS4 Standard Edition and D'Addario Electric Guitar Strings

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MYNBWAM/ref=s9_acsd_bw_wf_a_x_cdi_4?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-1&pf_rd_r=D72E3RH1FS2WZGKRBWSH&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=0&pf_rd_i=283155

Is the guitar good for a beginner who has never played a guitar before?  Since the guitar is electric, would I need to hook it up to something to hear the audio?  Can I plug a headset directly into the guitar itself?

Edit: That package also includes "D'Addario NYXL1046 Nickel Plated Electric Guitar Strings."  Are these extra strings?  Or am I gonna have to string the guitar myself?

That's a fine beginner guitar. The strings are extra. It will come with strings on it.

You don't need an amplifier to plug an electric guitar into to hear it. I've done most of my practicing so far with my guitar disconnected from my amp (don't want to wake the kids up) and I can hear the notes perfectly well.

Plugging headphones directly into the guitar won't work. You'd need to run your guitar into an amp of some kind, and then attach your headphones to the amp (which will then play your music through the headphones instead of the amp speaker).

Of course if you are performing or playing along with other instruments you'll need an amp to be heard. And many of the sounds that are unique to an electric guitar (tone, overdrive, feedback, etc.) are amp-dependent, so eventually you'll want to be practicing with an amp too. But if you're just learning chords, you're fine to start without an amp. You can always pick up a cheap amp on Craigslist if you find that you're not bothering the neighbors enough while you practice!

It's great that you can still hear the notes without an amp. I'm a night owl and don't want to be waking others up. Lol. I'll look at cheap amps, too, though. Thanks!

You can always get something like this as well:

https://pocket-rockit.myshopify.com/

It's an headphone amp that uses a battery, and you plug it directly in to the guitar and it allows for amplification without an amp(headphones plug in to it).

I have one of the originals that took batteries, but now there are many variations that are chargeable and what not. There are also cheaper options, but this was just to show what's available.

Amazon has Rocksmith as part of their Deal of the Day.

https://www.amazon.com/dlp/49799fd5

PS4 and x1 are the Remastered version.

360 and PS3 are the 2014 version (you'll need to download the free patch to make these older versions into the Remastered version).

From what I've seen, $30 is as cheap as it'll get for this BF, so might as well grab it now.

Also, MusiciansFriend started up their Black Friday deals

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/black-friday?icid=211003

If you just want to see the guitars on sale then click this link

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/black-friday?N=500001#pageName=collection-page&N=500001+3006346&Nao=0&recsPerPage=20&v=g&Ns=pLH&profileCountryCode=US&profileCurrencyCode=USD

Particularly like the G&L Ascari. Shame I have a Schecter that's too much like it.

Sweetwater has their early Black Friday deals going. It's the main splash page.

http://www.sweetwater.com/

Deals should change each day, so you'll need to check back daily for anything new.

This buffer/splitter caught my eye.

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/BuffSplit

Might finally let me run RS and my amp at the same time, without the feedback. Appreciate any experience if you've used this.

That guitar is fine.

You would connect that to your console, using the included Rocksmith cable.

As for audio, it'll be however you currently have your audio set up. So if you're using the tv speakers then that's where it'll come from.

Those strings are an extra set.

Now for alternate guitar options you could check out some the BF sales.

Honestly depending on your living situation it might make too much noise even without any amplification if you're trying not to wake anybody up.

Also don't worry so much about getting an amp if you have Rocksmith 2014 since the game acts as an amp on its own and allows you to customize your sound in ways that would cost a lot of money to do outside the game. It's great for beginners that just want to experiment.

Gamestop has Rocksmith Remastered @ $30 :xb1: :ps4: :pc: &Mac

Sam Ash has their Black Friday deals live.

http://www.samash.com/

It's all over the front page, so simply linking there.

You guys should definitely look into the pedaltrain 1250 over at sweetwater for half price at $99 http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/PT1250

If you have pedals then you want one of these. I have a very similar product made by voodoo labs and it's fantastic having your pedals powered. Well worth $99
Saw that during the overnight update.

Though had to watch the embedded video to make sure it was compatible for US use. Those crazy "soviet" plugs had me worried at first sight, lol.

If that's too much for some of you, take a look at the Trutone 1Spot. Currently $30 for the pack.

Capo @ $5

http://www.monoprice.com/product?c_id=115&cp_id=11501&cs_id=1150103&p_id=611051&seq=1&format=2

^ I would go for a manually adjusted capo instead of a spring loaded one. Something about those spring loaded ones make me nervous, like they're applying way too much pressure on that one spot. Would probably throw off your tuning after a while.

This is the one I use, and it's only 8 bucks. Definitely recommend this one:

Planet Waves Capo

Tempted on this... I have a few pedals that have never even been hooked up... Thanks again, Best Buy...

Man... That 1986 pack from a few weeks ago is my favorite DLC ever... "Talk Dirty to Me" is just pure awesome...

Got some '90's headed our way this week... A 4 pack from Third Eye Blind. "Jumper" is confirmed.

After this DLC, you too could save a life.

Psn flash sale has the PS4 version of remastered (not 100% sure if it includes the bonus songs since all versions get upgraded) for $15

Amazon has an exclusive run of Gibson les pauls.  USA made, in "fenderish"colors, for $500

They more or less are following the same build specs of the Firebird zero (poplar body, maple neck, light nitro finish), so good chance that $500 is the regular street price.

I think I'm going to have to buy a bass eventually. I really want to lay down actual bass tracks instead of using the MIDI keyboard I have.

My NSAI group is doing a showcase this week at a local art gallery. I decided not to do it this time. I probably will next time, though. You get to do 2 acoustic originals in a round robin model. At this point, I've demo-ed enough of my originals that I feel comfortable picking 2 out to play live. I just have to get over the butterflies. Or drink a little alcohol. One or the other... In all honesty, I'll probably need the alcohol. :)

^I can vouch for the CV series as well, and hey at least it's a different finish than some variation of sunburst or black/white.

Searching high and low for bass deals BF/CM to no avail...

Quick recap of still valid Rocksmith deals:

Bestbuy - Rocksmith Remastered is $30 (24 w/GCU, worked when I tested it)

X1 - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/rocksmith-2014-edition-remastered-xbox-one/5621828.p?skuId=5621828

PS4 - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/rocksmith-2014-edition-remastered-playstation-4/5621771.p?skuId=5621771

FRY's - Rocksmith Remastered is $25, as seen in the FRYs thread(online and in-store, PS4 is sold out online)(Thanks fidodido)

X1 - http://www.frys.com/product/8958923?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

PS4 - http://www.frys.com/product/8958913?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

Playstation Store(PSN) - digital version of Rocksmith Remastered is just under $15. And don't forget the 10% coupon code that's out there.

This DOES include the bonus songs.

Now guitar deals:

Musicians Friend added an "In-Cart pricing" sale. You need to be signed in and then add the qualifying items to see the final price

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/holiday-savings?icid=211035

Guitars and basses are mostly Fender and Squier. Nice thing is that every model I tested was getting a 20% discount (from Vintage Modified to MiM to American Standard & L.E. models).

Oh, you lefty's should take a look because they have a couple choices. Not much, but then again fairly rare to see any deal on lefty guitars, amirite ;)

Remember those new Mustangs & DuoSonics???

0144012582_gtr_duosonicmn_capri_orange_front_1.jpg

Yup, they're $100 off with the sale (remember these are fairly new releases)

Anyway, this is the 3rd (WMS, GC, MF) store front I've seen do in-cart pricing for Fender products. Might be a sign that there's a glut of inventory (or Fender needs cash), might be nothing. But worth keeping an eye out for future deals

^I can vouch for the CV series as well, and hey at least it's a different finish than some variation of sunburst or black/white.

Very slim pickings for bass deals. The Sweetwater deal on Hofner basses was the first real deal.

This new MF sale is the only other one. Nothing jaw dropping at MF, but a solid 20% savings off street price.

WTF. $15??!?!?!?!?! Why is it still $40 on the Xbox Marketplace? GRRRRRRRRR. :headache:

I know it's $24 at BB after GCU, but that $15 is now stuck in my mind. I can't in good conscience pay more than $15 now...

Probably stating the obvious, but for those who don't have the cable, the BB physical comes with the cable, and the digital, not so much. So not apples to apples.

Gotta think this is some sorta glitch deal...

Guitar Center has those Epiphone Les Paul special 1 (P90 models) @ $79
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Epiphone/Les-Paul-Special-I-P90-Electric-Guitar.gc
Only TV Yellow or Black

EDIT: looks like they're goofing and taking $50 off the current street price instead of the MSRP price. So act fast.
It's basically the same model they had on sale for Black Friday. But the BF one is backordered. So I walked into GC and bought one. Great deal.

Yup, very similar but not quite the same.

The BF deal was for the humbucker model and that's the one made of basswood. These P90 models were made of mahogany.

For years, they priced them differently, with the P90 models getting priced higher. That's why I thought this had to be some sorta glitch deal

Anyway, they added cherry to the deal, so all 3 flavors are $79 each.

Guess they don't give a fuck right now, lol.

BTW, I was still in the Price Guarantee window and got back $20. Keep that in mind if you made a previous purchase ;)

And here's what mine looked like...

The wood grain is more visible on the cherry and yellow than it is on the black

Heads up.

These are currently $400.

All flavors, except for black (that's still $500)
