Salty I need to re-do my profile in CAG4.0
As the original deal morphed into a game deal and guitar advice thread, I decided to place the original BB deal behind spoiler tags for a reference point. And I listed the current deals below. The guitar purchase is the most difficult part for us beginners, so read the advice in the thread

Too busy to read the entire thread? Then try these following posts for the guitar advice. Thanks to SmileyMcSmiles for all the help :applause:

Guitar+Bass Version*****

Original Version*****

Original DEAL behind this Spoiler
Bestbuy has a separate, two week flier for music gear and they're advertising Rocksmith game bundle+ Epiphone guitar for $199.98 and you get a $50 giftcard with purchase of the game/guitar bundle.

Ad is a bit odd in that they only list sku's for the game bundle and standalone guitar (#2633103, 2633149, 2273055), so they may be doing in-store bundling. Plus they list the game + guitar bundle as a 10 savings over buying everything separate

I'll let the musician CAGs speak to the quality of the guitar;)

UPDATE: Bestbuy finally got the site updated with the offer.
Link Dead
Like I said before, seems like they are doing an in-store bundle instead of selling the official Rocksmith guitar kit. Won't know for sure until it's bought

UPDATE #2: deal is definitely an in-store bundle of standalone guitar + game bundle. Guitar is an Epiphone LP jr with a cherryburst finish and no strap or picks are included. Asked about substituting a different guitar model but bundle price won't activate if you switch it out

God that brings back memories. I wish there were more glam rock titles from the 80's to re-live my youth. That and Iron Maiden.

Wondering if anyone has found a guitar deal deal at one of the Bestbuy closings.

I was going to go but after checking, the nearest store is 25min away and I'm pretty sure they never had an instrument dept.

For anyone that doesn't want to make too much of a monetary commitment, be in the look out at your local Target for clearanced FirstAct electric guitars. I just picked one up for $30 lol.

Having never played an electric guitar before, I have no clue what to look for. However, it's playable for a beginner IMO. For ~$85 after tax for the game and guitar, I'm pretty happy. I'd rather test this all out first before shelling out for a more expensive electric guitar if I decide to continue.

Sorry about the stiffness in my playing, but my fingers literally felt like they were bleeding at this point. In case you were wondering, I taught myself to play with a classical guitar in high school but never really took it seriously. I still pick up my classical guitar here and now for a few minutes, but never had serious ambitions to be that good.

I thought about picking up one of those First Act guitars as well as a backup/for the occasional second guest player but it was $50 for a while then the entire music section got cleared out by a hoarder when the price dropped to $30.

Hello music has a Schecter Damien Elite for $354. And there's usually a $30 off code floating around.

EDIT: well not 30, but it will save you $20 on a purchase of at least 100

Never saw them go below $50. But yeah at $30 it could be worth it just to mess with it

$50 sale is over, but at least Rocksmith only went up to $60 at most stores. And Amazon currently has it for $58, both versions
Any idea if Musician's Friend charges immediately for backordered items like that or only when they ship?
They've charged me on the day they ship the item, not when I place the order. Though I've never tried on a backordered item. But think it would be the same thing

Considering the fact that the Laguna guitar's ship date seems to get pushed back one day at a time every day, I'm kinda glad I didn't bother going for it.

Finally started playing yesterday and today, and I feel like I definitely need lessons to supplement as well. The game doesn't teach a thing about proper technique that I've seen, and I find myself with more pain in the wrists than I should probably have when working with low frets, as well as my strumming forearm getting scratched up against the bottom strap button. Likely some other bad habits as well I'm not self-aware of that a teacher can help fix before it's too late D:

Just an FYI for those of you who are still trying to find a way to hook up your audio outs via analog to minimize lag on Xbox 360: Monoprice has their 360 dongle back in stock.

http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10830&cs_id=1083005&p_id=7526&seq=1&format=2

Unlike other third party dongles and the component cable hack, this one lacks the system reboot problem when switching AV inputs. This is the next best thing to finding a used official 360 dongle in the wild, which judging by my experience is getting to be quite difficult.

Guitarcenter updated the weekly In-store deal and it's for the Squier Bullet @ $90 (30 savings).
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Big-Cool-Deal-g25903t0.gc
May want to act fast if interested 'cuz I've seen them pull guitar deals early (like the acoustic deal from 1-2 weeks ago)

Congrats man. And google for tips on technique. There's plenty of stuff out there to help you out. The wrist pain is probably coming from carrying the guitar at an improper height. Adjust you strap so your wrists are straight

I may take instructions in the future too. But want to get more comfortable with the guitar. Otherwise, I'll feel like I'm wasting money

Had been using straight component, but think I'll order this. Need some HDMI cables anyway.

Think I remember seeing them sell instrument cables and 1/4" couplers. So you can extend the pack-in cable as well

Next up is WMS with those DBZ guitars. They've gone in/out of stock for a while. But they have the Barchetta LT (red or black) in stock for $170, 10 bucks more than the first time I posted about them. And they have the Floyd Rose Trem model (black or gunmetal grey) for $199

There's no deal for the $40 case. But give 'em a call and see if they'll reactivate that part of the deal
WMS also has a couple Washburn guitars at $130. There's the RX123, in black
http://www.worldmusicsupply.com/Washburn-RX123B-Special-Edition-Black-Electric-Guitar.html
And there's the WMI14 in sunburst
http://www.worldmusicsupply.com/Washburn-WMI14FVSB-Limited-Edition-Electric-Guitar.html
**DEAD**And finally, it's been about a week since Guitar Center's weekly in-store deal began, so act fast if you still want the Squire Bullet for $90
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Big-Cool-Deal-g25903t0.gc
EDIT: D'oh! Forgot to include Sweetwater's deal on the Epiphone Les Paul Jr. @ $99 for the red, white or cherry sunburst model. Next best is 110 at Guitar Center for the restocked Ebony
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/search.php?s=epiphone+les+paul+junior
But if you don't mind a "scratch or dent" model, American Musical has a cherry sunburst model for $90
http://www.americanmusical.com/Item--i-EPI-EGJR-LIST

Phew, think that catches everything up.

So, how's everyone doing with RS? I just got all scale forms up to at least 13mil. Mixolydian and Phrygian Dominant were a real pain:bomb: Think it's time to go duck hunting;). Gotta work on my shifting skills

Sam Ash G-Dec Deal
That's a really good deal for that G-Dec... For those of you that have never seen them, you can also buy these:

Clapton Play Along and Smartcard for G-Dec Amp

This book/SD card series lets you play your favorites songs just like the artists who recorded them by plugging into your Fender G-DEC 3 and playing along with the sound-alike recordings. Each book features 8 songs with an SD card that includes tone presets along with high-quality backing tracks. Just follow the tab in the songbook listen to the tracks to hear how the guitar should sound and then play along using the separate backing tracks. The melody and lyrics are also included in the book so you can sing along. The play-along recordings can be accessed by simply inserting the card into the G-DEC 3 amp's card slot. In addition custom G-DEC 3 tone presets are included so guitarists can easily enjoy playing the right guitar tones and effects for each song.

There are other books in the same series (Nirvana, Tom Petty, Acoustic, Jimi Hendrix, SRV, Hard Rock, AC/DC, ZZ Top and Country Guitar). Kind of nice to get the preset tones so you can use them to learn the songs.

Holy crap!

I just turned my Xbox on Saturday for the first time in 2 weeks... O played for about 30 minutes yesterday... Sucks to have NO game time at all...

That's awesome on the scales! Those are the building blocks for songs and riffs. If you can recall a scale by memory, you can play along with just about anybody playing anything and rip a little riff off without thinking...

Damn you. I couldn't resist. After watching some demos and reviews, I picked up the 15 Watt version. Only diffs between it and the 30 is that wattage (obviously), a 10 inch versus and 8 inch speaker and the presence of stereo RCA line outs on the 30 for recording or hooking to a PA. If I ever actually play a little with a band, it won't be with this amp, so I can do without.

can't say I know the scales by heart. But I do notice when I hit the wrong note. Then make the quick correction. And see what you mean by building blocks as starting to recognize scales in different songs

Actually ordered a couple of Hal Leonard "decks" from Sam Ash, to do more practicing away from RS

No, damn you;)! Why'd you hafta mention those player packs. Tab books and song presets for $20? That's like analog DLC:lol: and it lets me mix up my learning and practice. Love RS, but sometimes my game skills take over and that's not gonna help me improve as a guitar player

I was perfectly happy with my Rogue Chorus amp. Now I'm wondering if there's a way to daisy-chain the Fender to my Rogue. Basically pump everything from the fender into the Rogue w/out blowing it all up.

Anyone know: it's the rogue sc80r
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/ampl...sc80r-80w-2x10-stereo-chorus-guitar-combo-amp

Only new deal is Musicians Friend Stupid Deal of the day. Get the Rogue 15watt tweed amp for $45, about 10 off regular price
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/stupid/?icid=200510

But if you have trouble staying awake, go to Moonlight Special and buy yourself 60 hours of energy for about 30 bucks;)

And for a bit more on the Fender gdec amps, check out the following links:

Cool thing about these G-Dec amps is that you can download the "special" G-Dec packs and turn your amp into the Blues, Country or Metal special editions and back again. The specific models have TONS of presets an backing tracks for the specific genre.

Hartke b600 bass amp for $179

So I just turned on my 360 went to the marketplace then games, game add ons then searched R under games a-z. Selected Rocksmith saw that the rock hits packs 1 & 2 were free as well as the 1970's and Megadeth tracks packs. The single songs cost money though so were these always free or did I get lucky?

Yeah, just look at the icon next to the description from now on. Make sure it is a controller with a plus sign next to it. Not a video real.

Not much going on with Rocksmith deals. At least it's $60 at most stores

But you can save 10% on accessories for your guitar. Head over to Musicians Friend and enter code "PS10"

Otherwise, here's a quick amp deal recap:
Fender g-dec3 Fifteen is $100 at bunch of places. Seems to be a closeout at all retailers

The Thirty model is soldout at Sam Ash and the next best price is $200 at other retailers

http://www.samash.com/p/Fender_Vibr...58282?cm_sp=Sliders-_-HP-_-Fender+Vibro+Champ
Looks to be another close out deal so jump on it before it sells out

Sweet find! Moreso if you can flip it for that much. Good Luck

I wanted to check my local closure. But the local closing store isn't so local and I haven't had an excuse to get out there. Oh well

Finally got my Gdec today. Damn this sucker is cool! Haven't even tried any of the online stuff yet.

Still waiting on the song packs. Went with ZZ and Hard Rock after previewing a bunch of songs from all the packs. Think those'll be the most fun to learn

Don't forget that you can download the packs from the fender site that turns your amp into any one of the "special edition" amps (blues, metal or country).

I thought the sound was pretty impressive for a cheap little amp. I'll probably grab a few song books this week (nirvana and something else, most likely).

Musician's Friend now has the 15 for $99 and the 30 for $199.

I picked up a "First Act" guitar from Target on clearance for $30. Yeah, it may not be the greatest guitar, but I only paid $30 for it. :)

If I saw one, I'd pick it up in a heartbeat for my niece. She's 7 and wants to learn. That would be the perfect learning guitar.

Couple of accessory deals:
Amazon has a 25 pack of D'Addario EXL strings 10's for $59 (after 15% discount). Roughly 2.30 per set.
http://www.amazon.com/DAddario-EXL1...cal-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1336932571&sr=1-1
American Musical's Weekly Deal is the Monster 10' instrument cable+surge protector for $16.95

http://www.hellomusic.com/ec/DealMain.aspx?did=14755

And the Fender g-dec3 amps are starting to disappear. Sam Ash and Sweetwater still have the Fifteen model for $99. Musicians Friend and Music 123 have the Thirty model for $199

A nice deal, if you're perusing this thread AND were thinking about buying a guitar RIGHT NOW...

Hello Music has the Orange PiX20LDX amp for $129 here...
http://www.elabs5.com/c.html?rtr=on&s=jazik%2cetwm%2cuhq%2c5ff3%2ckbxu%2cgor9%2c9tpn

And the Schecter that rbarb4 listed above here...
http://www.hellomusic.com/ec/DealMain.aspx?did=14841&cat=secretstore2

AND the $100 off and Free Shipping code of JURA100 is still working, so you can get a guitar that normally in $599 at MF and GC, a boutique quality amp that is usually around $180 and Free Fedex shipping for $428... That's one HELL of a deal... That coupon code was supposed to have been cut down at Midnight, and they raised the price of the Fender yesterday when they set the coupon to active from $639 to 789 to cover the coupon, so they obviously don't mean for this to work. Their loss, your gain... But don't expect that coupon to last forever...
Nice find on that coupon code (100 off 500purchase). And you're right, HM normally jacks up the price of stuff when they release one of these hondo coupons. Kinda unique opportunity.

So if you missed out on the Amazon Schecter, here's your chance to get something similarly equipped but in a LP body style

Might as well bring up that Hello music still has the Fender modern player tele thinline for $349. Semi-hollow body, p90 pickups, transparent black finish
http://www.hellomusic.com/ec/DealMain.aspx?did=14877

Music 123 updated the weekly deal with a Squier Bullet strat at $100.
And if you're into singing while playing, they have a mic boom stand at $17
But if you really wanna piss off your neighbors, buy the Harbinger speakers at $300
http://www.music123.com/pages/123Deals

By the way, Guitar center sent me an email about the upcoming Memorial Day sale.
"We're going to have a ton of items marked down thru Monday plus a 15% off coupon if you want something that's not on sale. All weekend long we're also offering 12 month no interest financing if you use a GC Preferred Player credit card.

We're going to send the official deal announcement later this week but I wanted to reach out to you personally ahead of time."
So, keep an eye out to see if there's anything worthwhile.

Hello Music has the BC Rich Masterpiece Bich for $225 with Free Shipping... GORGEOUS axe!

DV016_Jpg_Large_512693.293_dragons_blood.jpg

If it's not on the front page, you may have to click the link at the bottom that says "Odd Shaped Guitars" to get to it (after logging in, of course).
That thing is sick! I haven't messed with any BC Rich stuff yet. How do they sound? Similar to an SG or Les Paul?
When you think BC Rich, think current day hard rock or 80's metal. More along the lines of the SG, they're built for shredding. Those covered humbuckers should sound hot as heck.

Also, guitar center now has a price + 10% of the difference price match policy, If you live close enough to try it out... It'd knock another $7 or so off of $225 if they had the Bich in stock.

More of a plain jane when compared to model at Hello Music, but the Stupid Deal of the Day is for the BC Rich Warlock in metallic red for $150
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/stupid/?icid=200510

Hello Music added a Michael Kelly Patriot Vintage for $396
http://www.hellomusic.com/ec/DealMain.aspx?did=14935
Couldn't find the oddball guitar link, but they tend to cycle thru their stuff so just keep checking back.

And looks like Guitar Center has started the Memorial Day (list) sale.
http://www.guitarcenter.com/
They're listing the Epi Les Paul Special I @$99 (think they were 120-130)
and they have a 15%off coupon. But the real star are the in-store lists. Checked a couple of stores that are the clsest to me and they're pretty loaded. Just fuck'n hate that most things are listed "too low to print"

Now I gotta decide if it's worth going. The few prices that were printed were at best only 50% off list. Don't exactly know if the hidden price stuff will be discounted higher

EDIT: got back from Target and found those first act capos for $2.84 and the electric strings for 1.24
Bought the capo to help me with guitar setup. Kinda ran out of hands when trying to measure string clearance ;)
And only buy those strings if you want to practice changing strings. That's all they're really good for.
-----------------------------------------------------------
On a personal note, got back to playing events. Over the past month I started to play the songs in my current event, but it was like I'd qualify a song one night, then go back to Scale Runner. So basically qualified one event over a month.

Go in to finish the last song last night. Didn't feel like going back to practice anything so just started the event. Did well enough to trigger an encore (got one of the holiday songs).

Get the next event full of songs I don't remember playing before. But got them qualified very quickly and completed that event as well. And with that I ranked up to Level 8:bouncy:

These two events showed me that Scale Runner really improved my comfort level with the guitar. I'm no longer thinking about where to move, but rather just reacting. And don't feel lost when I mess up. Able to get right back into the song.

By the way, was able to get all scales over 14.2 mil, with my best being 14.5mil and 270 consecutive note streak on a couple

Whaaat:hot:. Thanks for the heads up randem

That's crazy good! The cable alone sells for that.

You could pick it up to do multiplayer. Especially helpful since the bass expansion is suppose to be a few months off.

And if you really see how far you've progressed, pick it up for the opposite console and start a new game

Any idea how long this price will be good for? I'm thinking about going next tuesday to get Resistance for the Vita, but my Fry's is a long drive away, so I'd like to make one trip due for both. Hopefully this deal will still be good by then, as this is the best price I've seen since release. Thanks!
