Salty I need to re-do my profile in CAG4.0
As the original deal morphed into a game deal and guitar advice thread, I decided to place the original BB deal behind spoiler tags for a reference point. And I listed the current deals below. The guitar purchase is the most difficult part for us beginners, so read the advice in the thread

Too busy to read the entire thread? Then try these following posts for the guitar advice. Thanks to SmileyMcSmiles for all the help :applause:

Guitar+Bass Version*****

Original Version*****

Original DEAL behind this Spoiler
Bestbuy has a separate, two week flier for music gear and they're advertising Rocksmith game bundle+ Epiphone guitar for $199.98 and you get a $50 giftcard with purchase of the game/guitar bundle.

Ad is a bit odd in that they only list sku's for the game bundle and standalone guitar (#2633103, 2633149, 2273055), so they may be doing in-store bundling. Plus they list the game + guitar bundle as a 10 savings over buying everything separate

I'll let the musician CAGs speak to the quality of the guitar;)

UPDATE: Bestbuy finally got the site updated with the offer.
Link Dead
Like I said before, seems like they are doing an in-store bundle instead of selling the official Rocksmith guitar kit. Won't know for sure until it's bought

UPDATE #2: deal is definitely an in-store bundle of standalone guitar + game bundle. Guitar is an Epiphone LP jr with a cherryburst finish and no strap or picks are included. Asked about substituting a different guitar model but bundle price won't activate if you switch it out

Couple of standouts are the Kustom tube combo amps in 50w & 100w, for $200 & $300. Costco, for example, currently has the v50 for $550, so you can see this is a BIG drop

100w http://www.musiciansfriend.com/ampl...-the-defender-v100-100w-2x12-guitar-combo-amp

Or go with the Acoustic 10w bass amp for $70 and you'll have somethin you can use with both your guitar and bass
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/amplifiers-effects/acoustic-b10-10w-1x10-bass-combo-amp

And going back to Costco, they have a Michael Kelly spalted maple top guitar for $400. Man that thing looks sweet:cool:

In for one, hope it doesn't suck.

I've been playing guitar since 1986, but picked one up anyway since my kid wants to learn. He's got me to teach him and a full DVD set of instructional videos, but doesn't seem to want to learn that way. I hope this works. Thanks for the up! Should be easy trophies for vet guitarists, too.

I don't know if this is the right place to ask (and it's probably a long shot anyway) - but is anyone here in the Bucks County, PA region and want to play/practice/jam together? Been trying to learn guitar on and off for a few years, and definitely think playing with someone else would increase my interest. Don't have any friends locally who play.

Question for those who have it:

Does the stuff in the Best Buy exclusive edition make it worth buying there vs anywhere else? Or are the extras not all that interesting? I have credit at Amazon so wondering if I should get it there and save myself some money.

(It's $40 at Amazon now btw)

Probably try putting your psn or xbla id in your profile and people can decide if they wanna contact you

The extras are worth it if you plan on going into the amp an freestylin. But you won't miss it if you're mainly going to focus on playing the on-disc and dlc songs

Here's the BB extras:

• The Powerchorder instant power chord harmony pedal allows players to easily execute complex shifting power chord riffs and 5th harmony leads simply by playing single notes.
• The Trem-Olé! vintage surf/Rockabilly/Western movie tone effect pedal couples a fixed speed, selectable tremolo with a slap-back delay.
• The Robo Crunch high-tech, low-fi synth simulator combines a bit reduction effect with a slow moving flanger.

Plus, you'll also get access to a unique in-game Gibson guitar. The S-1 guitar includes unique pickups that were designed so they could produce both humbucking and single-coil sounds."

Thanks! The pedals do sound neat, but I just plan on playing the songs and not freestyling in it as I already have an amp for that. Im gonna get it on Amazon and maybe get some of the DLC since I'll be saving a bit. I bought the Best Buy one a week ago but haven't opened it, so I'll be returning that. Kind of annoying how that Best Buy stuff is exclusive though, I wish they'd stop doing that for games.

I'd wait for the new edition with the bass, but that one will probably not drop in price for a while. So getting it now at $40 then paying $30 for the download would save $10 vs buying the $80 bass one.

Are you looking for people to play guitar with or Rocksmith specifically? Cos there's lot of great guitar forums online, you might have a better chance of finding something there. Even if you can't find someone locally you'll at least have some people to learn with online.

If you get emails from SamAsh, make sure you look for one from last night. It's a free $25 coupon (no minimum purchase). I have a Sam Ash about 30 minutes away and was planning on going out that way, anyway, today... So a free tab book and picks for me it will be!

Yeah, if it follows the pattern of the original release, it'll hit $50 for a black friday deal.
I definitely want the bass content but plan on waiting for a disc deal. Have a 120gb drive but space is getting tight and well I'd prefer it all in one spot.

What was the title of the email?

- A $25 gift for you - use it or lose it!

Went by tonight and grabbed 2 Hal Leonard Play Along book (Nirvana and Tom Petty) for $9.xx out of pocket! I think I was the first person at the Richmond store to use the coupon... And for all the blather about one time use in the email, the cashier didn't even care... So they're gonna get a second printout tomorrow and I'ma get some more cheap shit...

Rbarb4 - I don't know what triggered the email. I have never walked in that store. I bought my PRS from their online store... I will say one thing - that is one trashy music store. Guitar Center is soooo much nicer... and in Richmond, they're right beside one another.

remember this bad boy? There's a slight chance it's available

Hello Music shows it in the 1st secret store, right-hand side. But the link kicks back to the home page

They recently redesigned the site to show expiring & sold out deals. So there might be a glitch keeping you from buying it OR the glitch is showing you a deal that it shouldn't. Who knows

I say contact them if you really want it. And these are the most recent coupon codes I know of: first20, twitter20 and hm20new.
Try 'em and see which one's still good

Couple of standouts are the Kustom tube combo amps in 50w & 100w, for $200 & $300. Costco, for example, currently has the v50 for $550, so you can see this is a BIG drop

v50w http://www.musiciansfriend.com/amplifiers-effects/kustom-the-defender-v50-50w-1x12-guitar-combo-amp

And if you ordered the Kustom v50 amp from Musicians Friend, chances are high that they cancelled the order
But as a consolation, they're sending out $20 account credits to use on your next purchase. So keep an eye out

Anybody ever jump on this? I'm curious to find out what kind of stuff people got from it just in case the do it again. They claimed there could be amazing stuff like expensive guitars, or some not so amazing stuff. I was too skeptical (chicken?) to order myself.

It's kind of like a woot mystery box - they drop 1 tv, a nice stereo, a few iPods, etc. into the mix an random people may get 1. I got a set of picks and a flip book of scales last time. It was ok, but $10 is about what I would have paid of I had gone to Guitar Center and bought them there.

Wanna go wireless? Then get the Stupid Deal of the Day over at MF. They have the AKG sr40 @ $100

I've got the mini40 version and it works great. So if this is anything like that, then you'll be really happy with it

And Guitar Center is prepping for their 4th of July sale. Couple of straight-up deals are
--Ibanez GRG120 guitar for $129 (black or white)

http://www.amazon.com/Dean-Razorbac...cal-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1340908810&sr=1-2
And it comes with a case

Well, it's been 4 months since I ordered my Dean and yet another email about how they expect to have more within 30 days. I think I'm done waiting, I intend to see if they will give me a better deal on that Ibanez in place of the one I actually ordered at this point. Does it seem like a good starter guitar?

I thought I was the only one waiting this long. :wall:They canceled my order on Tuesday and couldn't give me back the $79.99 price I ordered it at. I gave up on it anyhow so now it's time to search amazon for free shipping $100 guitars. And I say that because I'm not in the contiguous 48 states dammit.

Damn. That sucks for you guys. You all have more patience than me... That ibanez will be fine. It has a tremolo, so you'll have to tweak the tuning more than a fixed bridge guitar, but it isn't that big of a deal. Guitar Center has a shit ton of specials this weekend, including a cool looking Dean Dime guitar for like $125, I think... I saw a thread on slickdeals about it.

EDIT: forgot to include some new Hello Music coupon codes:

Yeah, sorry to hear that guys. But also check out Musicians Friend.
Actually just got done with an order#-o
So last night I see all these things on sale at Music123. Check out MF and see they have the same sale prices. Coupon won't apply since some things are excluded. But, I call in and get them to apply it anyway.

So, I got a Epi LE Wilshire, two skull guitar cases, bunch of leather straps and a bunch of picks for about $300 (stupid CA tax)

Played a Wilshire a while back and it left a positive impression. Really liked it (especially the coil taps) and well, how am I suppose to ignore this deal. If you think about it, it's the gaming industry's fault for not making games for me to buy that are better than RS;)

LOL rbarb4 - I thought that the other day. The only thing I play other than RS is a tiny bit of Mw3 multiplayer and, the last week, SSX. All I ever want to do is play RS. And buy guitars... I'm resisting the buying guitars part right now.

I will say, the more I play, the more I LOVE my Fenders. They just feel right. I don't know if it's the jumbo frets or the long neck, but my PRS and ESP don't feel near as nice to play...

If Music123 is serious about their free shipping on almost everything regardless of order size it's time to pick up some 5 dollar guitar stands, been waiting for those suckers to come down in to the same price since Black Friday.

I tried to buy that leather strap for 2.99 but they want about 3.50 shipping. Still seems like a pretty good deal, but it turned it from an instant purchase to something I have to think about. I checked the stands & found the same thing. Let us know if you manage to get free shipping. They did say no minimum

Try doing the order thru Musicians Friend. Did a test order for one of the 3 buck straps and it kept Free Shipping 'til the end. Do't know about the other stuff but at least that worked

About Rocksmith specifically... I recently sold most of my 360 towards the purchase of a PS3 (missed out on a lot of games over the past few years) so I'm curious if I can use the same cord that came with the 360 version for the PS3... And if so does anybody know where I can get the disc-only for the PS3?

Yes, you can use the same cord.
No, there is no disc only version (get a second guitar and multi)

Best Buy sells disc only Rocksmith used but I'm pretty sure it's like 34.99 anyway. You could probably score a disc only copy on Ebay for less than 20 bucks though.

I couldn't get the free shipping on Music123 with less than 49 or 50 in my cart either, oh well.

I tried musicians friend as recommended above and got free shipping on my $3 strap. Give it a shot for your stands

Yeah, seems to work with Musician's Friend despite that site not being the one that advertises the no minimum free shipping lol

Now to decide whether I want to get that Rogue amp or repackaged Digitech RP155 to also use the savejuly4 code or just grab a couple stands/straps and call it a day...

Looks like it's TRU's turn to sell Rocksmih @ $40

And Amazon has the 360 version for $46. Maybe they'll price match TRU

Well, I'd toss out a third option in the Fender G-dec3 Fifteen for $100 thru Guitar Center. Put in your zip and find the closest store with stock
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Fender-G-DEC-3-Fifteen-15W-1x8-Guitar-Combo-Amp-105797641-i1509959.gc They first popped up whem Sam Ash was clearing them out.
You'll have a bunch of modelling effects built into the amp and you can download more to the amp. And crazedracer pointed out a while ago that you can buy book/song packs to use with it.
Stuff like this: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/book...-hard-rock-guitar-play-along-songbook-sd-card

It looks like a new version is coming out this year based on a Newegg pre-order promotion, may be the reason for the drop. Also, MY GUITAR FINALLY SHIPPED o_O

Get the order in your cart so you have totals. Call the 800 number and tell then you have an order in your cart, but the discount won't apply. They'll tell you that the exclusion list contains these items, but they'll go ahead and apply the discount because you're such a great customer.

Nice, although with $41 in shipping charges (cabinet classified as oversized, unless they'll waive that with the call too) and $25ish in taxes I'll have to pass. I'm not any good anyway, not yet, since I've only been able to play maybe twice a month on average. Should've known the bass add-on was going to result in the Street Fighter effect lol; I'll likely just hold off on that until there's a significant discount.

Got a nice surprise today. My order of stuff came in two days early:bouncy:

Won't get to really play the guitar 'til tonight. But liking what I see so far.

The Skull case is great. It's pretty sturdy and finished very well. Has gunmetal hardware, quilted liner and comes with a mini pillow to support your guitar's body. And there's a little strap to hold the neck in place. Not a fan of the skull pattern but I can live with it.

Those straps seem really good too. But I'll get a better idea over time. Easily worth $3. There's also some padding in there, not much though.

Also grabbed some thin and medium picks. Been slowly working my way back down from the 1.5 picks I've been using. Gonna be interesting using those thin ones cuz they feel like paper to me

I say go for the straps and case if possible and use the 20 off coupon

Toys r Us(online) and Amazon are holding steady on Rocksmith pricing (40 & 46 respectively). And someone mentioned it being $40 in-store, for good now. Other stores are holding at $60

Those Musicians Friend deals are a little less awesome. Current coupon deal is save $10 off 99, 40 off 349 using coupon code "summersale".
They fixed the free shipping glitch so it's gonna cost you $3.50 to ship those straps (unless you're doing a big order). Really like them and I'm thinking of ordering more. Hey, 12.50 for another 3 is still pretty sweet.
Also found a Road Runner LP case for $42 (graphite color)

Finally got my mystery box and got let down this time. My last order was good enough so that I try again. But this one sucks

Got two mic holders (cheap plastic that'll break under any real use), 3 Fender thin picks (couldn't even send me a dozen, really????) and the crap de resistance... a Ranger Boats baseball cap (WTF!!!). What's a boat cap gotta do with musical instruments?

I got my $5 mystery package today from goingtoday.com that we were talking about a few pages back. The contents included an obscenely red hat, a few picks and a microphone holder. Yay?

In any case it might have been worth the $10 total ($4.99 shipping) to somebody haha. Was a fun little gamble though.

I need to stop beating myself up for waiting until the actual July 4th holiday before trying to order at MF, missing out on the free shipping glitch and not having anyone around to pick up the phone that day to be able to apply the 20 off 100 coupon (because it didn't seem to work on like...anything on the site) :(

To make things worse I got up to 50 for free shipping by ordering stands and straps in semi-bulk plus a guitar bag only to find out that I actually ordered a bass bag instead of an electric guitar bag when I reviewed my shipping confirmation. At least it'll still [probably] fit inside, just with a lot of extra space. I bought it with the intent of using it to take it to a community college guitar class I'm signing up for though, so hopefully it doesn't wiggle around too much; it'd probably cost me more to return the bag than it would to just keep it.

Think I'm just going to sit it out for a while until there's another fire sale deal similar to the DBZ Barchetta with case for 200 or the Schecter Damien Special for 240.

Well, try calling if they haven't shipped yet. They should be able to switch it

Same goes for the DBZ deal. That's what my buddy did back when they first pulled the case. And looking at their site, they still have the case since they're giving it away for free with the purchase of those "bare bones" models.

***** ***** ***** *****
Last night I noticed I'm about 4 million points away from hitting level 11.:bouncy:
I'm at 16+change and kinda estimate I need to hit 20. Let's just say I'm surprised that I'm this close, especially since I had one month where I didn't play at all and there was the following month where I went on a Scale Runner binge. And all w/out sandbagging events. Played almost everything as it was tossed at me

Of course, every event is now loaded with 90k songs; like 5-6 90k songs to 1 at 40-50k. So I'm avg about 500k per event

And really enjoying the Wilshire Pro I got. Neck is really similar to my LPjr. Feels the same to me anyway. It's really light and the thin contoured body makes it very comfortable. Coil tap's not as noticeable as my friends DBZ while in RS. But really makes a difference when plugged into an amp

Only issue I'm having is with the ebonized fretboard. My fingers turn black after about an hour of play. At which point it becomes harder to play since my fingers don't slide as easily . Most noticeable during bends. Haven't oiled the fretboard or changed strings cuz of this.

Near as I can tell, it's common enough issue. Just trying to find a way to eliminate it. Otherwise I'll just hafta wear it out
