My Disgaea 3 from RosenQueen will probably be in tomorrow, while Tales of Vesperia CE from Amazon is up in the air. I really am tempted to go to stores tomorrow and just pick it up there. The problem is they don't have the CE.

The newer Final Fantasy Tactics advance might have better battle mechanics(that's kinda expect since Final Fantasy Tactics for ps1 is the first one of series. So newer ones have a more refine or polish experience). But some of newer features are really annoying- unable to turn camera, stupid judges, removal of job points, battle animation are still slow(you can't skip them compare to any SRPG like Disgaea or Fire Emblem, heck even Chaos Wars have skip animation) and story have significantly changed to attract the younger Nintendo audience. I will glad take a bad localization then this.

Plus, the original Final Fantasy Tactics have amazing soundtrack with all orchestrated music.

Loved the music so much, that I bought the soundtrack.

You guys think Disgaea 3 might be hard to find later? I want to get it, but I got a huge backlog and haven't even played the first and second one yet.

w00t w00t I just beat Lost Odyssey

But apparently I missed something so I don't have the Treasure Trove achievement =/ Wicked pissed. 980/1000.

Your not the only, a lot of people are missing that treasure trove achievement. It's such as pain in the ass to get. Nothing is more fun than search every nook and cranny for a few treasure chest. Beating the ultimate boss is far easier than getting that achievement.

Anyone played Lunar 2: Eternal Blue? I have Silver Star Story Complete but I already know the entire story and want to see how Eternal Blue is.

I won't exactly call Lunar Blue an awful game, it's more like a huge disappointment. The last one, Lunar Silver Story, set the bar so high with it's charming characters with it's traditional, yet simple battle system. When Lunar Blue came out the gameplay, game mechanics and even the story is almost identical as it's predecessor Lunar Silver Story. There was little or no change and many of it's fans were disappointed. I'm pretty sure if you play them by vice versa from Lunar Blue to Silver Story you will be more disappointed with Lunar Silver Story.

Some people might actually enjoy both if you like traditional ciche love story, boy save the world and get the girl, with some classic rpg gameplay.

I think that's one agreement that no one can argue. Lunar Dragon Song is a piece of turd. I wonder who thought it was fun to have two battle modes- one for experience and one for items/card? You have to work twice as hard for the price of one. Not to mention, the only source to gain a sizable source of money is by trading goods through various towns. And pressing the run buttons causes you to lose health.

I can't believe I beat that piece of shit.

I'm another guy that doesn't understand all they hype about Lunar. I'm not saying the series is horrible but I don't see anything that wows me. SSSC is pretty cool because they put a map in there (along with that incredibly gay pendant) but does that distract from the game itself?

The games are really antiquated at this point. Since they threw the analog control in on PS1 it holds up better than others but I found them to be wholly generic. The characters are super small on the screen too.

I don't think extras distract, I mean they released a fan edition with no extras. Also there was no pendant with SSSC, just a map and hardbound instruction book. The pendant and cardboard standees came with Eternal Blue.

What makes Lunar good is the characters. They were some of the more like able characters I've ever seen in a game.

I confused the games. It's been eight years since I've even seen the games in person so I'm not worried about it.

I should say the extras entice us to buy like any good extras should. The problem is, they should've spent the money on making a better game. At first, when I saw the map, I thought "Wow, this a company that's really trying to give us an immersive experience!" Then, I played and wondered how a SNES game got passed off for a PS1 game. Like you said, the characters are super small on the screen. I pointed all that out to my buddy (who was super proud that he managed to snag a copy even through they were still prevalent at stores) and he said "But look at the map. It's almost like you're on the adventure." I just chalked it up to him going through a divorce and delivered the bitch slap of the century. Well, not really, but I really wanted to.

They are Sega Saturn games (Lunar SSSC being a Saturn remake of a Sega CD game). A lot of gamers wanted to play something that strayed from the Final Fantasy VII formula, and thus Lunar did fairly well in the U.S.

Like I said, try to find a friend who has them first since they're not for everyone. I couldn't get into either of them.

I forgot that SSSC came out for the Sega SD originally. That makes more sense. At the time, I was all about graphics though. I know it sounds shallow but I was just done with the old school type games at the time.
Many of the older JRPGs just aren't fun anymore. Games like Chrono Trigger hold up well, but in my opinion they're in the minority.
I think a lot of the 16-bit games are still good, but not the PS1.

Still like my Lufia 2, FF4, MQ, and FF6, Soul Blazer, DQ5 and 6, Earthbound, Super Mario RPG, BOF1 and 2, Romancing SaGa 3, SoM and SD3...

8-bit was good too:
Crystalis, Destiny of an Emperor 1 and 2, DW1-4, FF1 and 3, Ultima: Quest of the Avatar. Pretty good for the NES even though there weren't that many RPGs.

It's just that when the PS came out and FF7 blew open the market, a lot of crap that was kept in Japan started coming out here.

Yeah I remember a lot of crap. I never really got into the NES because my first console was Super NES (after Game Boy).

Mario RPG and Secret of mana are all still great games. Soul Blazer is still a lot of fun too, with an excellent soundtrack. FF IV was my favorite but I don't think it holds up unless you are considering the new DS version.

For many older JRPGs it was a "you had to be there" type of experience.

I think the FF4 DS version is worse than the SNES version. The dialogue is trash. I don't even understand the Mysidian legend anymore.
I was going to sell off my copy of II and pick up the DS version, not a good idea?
If you were going to do that , you might be better off selling off 2 and getting either the PS1 Chronicles edition , or if you can't stand load times/ want some extra features , get the GBA edition.

Speaking of Lunar , I picked up both Lunars for the PS1 back when they first came out , cause those were two rpgs that I had always wanted to play but couldn't cause they were on the sega CD. I played and beat the first but have never played the second. Lunar does hold a special distinction for me as being only one of two (if I remember correctly) rpgs that I had to use a gameshark to beat cause it was too hard for me.

Anyone care to guess what the other one is? (Heres a hint , it was also on the PS1).

Persona 2?

I had chronicles but I ended up getting sick of the load times. The GBA FF IV is really superior to DS? From every video I've seen, the DS version looks definitive.

Nope , older than that. Haven't actually played persona 2 yet (I did finally get a hold of it in a trade though) but plan to eventually.

Can't say whether the GBA version is superior to the DS version cause I don't have the DS version to compare (most review sites are saying the opposite) . Hopefully I'll get it for my birthday.

I would keep the SNES one, it seems like the best one. PS1 has load times and ugly graphics, and the GBA seems kinda buggy. Kain jumps and takes like 5 years to come back down, the weird consecutive turn bug...

I think I'm just going to go with selling II and getting IV for the DS.

I don't think I'll ever be interested in replaying the SNES one (plus there are emulators), the DS edition seems like the best overall package (no bugs, harder difficulty).

I would recommend getting rid of the SNES one because of the shelf life. Eventually, it will go bad and be worthless. You might as well get your money for it now. I realize that the DS version will also suffer the same fate but at least it's brand new. I noticed that half of my old Genesis games are just paper weights and I'm pissed I didn't get rid of them earlier.

I'd like to think so. That's why I would suggest the DS version over the SNES version. What sucks is that Square somehow made three different "definitive" versions of the same game. What to choose? SNES, GBA, or DS? All have something that they did better than the other two but none are head and shoulders above the other. It's kind of a mess and I hope this doesn't happen when the PSP gets more FFs.

Speaking of the PSP, when are we gonna get more remakes for it? I thought they were gonna keep going after I and II hit within a month of each other. I know VII is a pipe dream but where's VIII or IX? Those would be perfect for the PSP. At least, it got Crisis Core.

Well the SNES version is missing a lot of things, and many translations are completely wrong.

I just tried my SNES version and it still saves/loads, fancy that.

Square will definitely make more remakes. They like to make remakes instead of putting them on a download service (like PSN) because they can charge $30-40 instead of $10. Really I wish Square would spend there time on new games instead of these bad remakes with no extra content. More games like TWEWY would be amazing.

I was kind of wondering that too. I would think 7 , 8 and 9 would make sense to be remade on the PSP as opposed to the DS. I never understood why they bothered remaking 1 and 2 again for the PSP when they really didn't even change much from the GBA version.

Square also needs to give us remakes / ports of the rest of the saga series. I've really wanted to play the saga games and square seems to show little interest in doing anything with the series anymore.
