Dammit, no NWN2. Lost my copy (with both expansions) in a move. Never got around to playing the expansions either... Mayhaps time for a D&D nostalgia trip though with BG+mods, NWN, NWN2...
Seen this? I wouldn't hold your breath for a release date, but some of those screenshots do look tasty.
So gog.com has a big-ass D&D bundle (Neverwinter Nights, Planescape, Baldur's Gate, Temple of Elemental Evil, etc.) going on for the next 20 hours or so.

Great savings can change the nature of a man.
I don't understand. Should I, or should I not ever touch these games?

Well, I don't think you'd be missing much by never playing the first Neverwinter Nights...
Dammit, no NWN2. Lost my copy (with both expansions) in a move. Started Breath of Fire 3 on PSP... Very meh so far. Really love BOF4, so I'm trying to stick with it...
NWN2 is in some bizarre mystery-world right now and I don't think anybody really knows why. Something fucking stupid on Atari's end, I'd guess. NWN2 itself was alright - shit camera, really slow first act - but Mask of the Betrayer was awesome.

And BoF 3 is awesome. I can't really compare it to BoF 4 because of nostalgia, but it's a god damn good game.

i actually like nwn. maybe not the campaign but the modded campaigns were fun to play through too.

i never beat hordes but that was interesting... i guess there's a reason there aren't many high level custom campaigns in nwn.

NWN was amazing for its community content, its fan-made modules, its online stuff, etc.

It's just that the basic campaign was turrible.

EDIT: And I've heard one of the expansions was cool, though I don't recall which one.

probably shadows, that was a fun game. i didn't even play it, i just watched my friend roll through it.

horde was difficult because everything was OP

High-level D&D is infamously bullshit.

Throne of Bhaal is terrible for that. Everyone's running around with at least +3 weapons (+3 basically being "magic as all fuck"). Armour and dodging are 100% useless as everyone's THAC0 is totally overwhelming. On the off-chance you need money, killing a random group of mercenaries will get you a billion dollars worth of enchanted gear. Fighters get a special attack that makes their next attack a guaranteed crit, though about half of all enemies are immune to it. Mages get a special attack that does 20-200 damage plus knockback in a massive area with no friendly fire.

Mask of the Betrayer does a better job of it. Eating souls and invading purgatory gives a pretty good excuse for everything to be overpowered.

I thought NWN was pretty easy as a caster. I usually don't play casters, but gnome mages owned. Added assassin skills to that in the expansions, and owned some more.

Looks like I'll stick it out with BoF3, thanks guys. Read a couple reviews online that confirmed my thoughts that it starts crazy slow, but picks up. I think I've been spoiled by more recent RPGs that hook you much quicker than "old school" ones haha.

On NWN: It wasn't terrible (even the stock campaign) but coming off of BG2 it was just utterly disappointing. Plus at the time I barely had what would be considered internet (AOL...) so it was single player and no mods for me :(

There were a couple of problem spots (the descriptions of Miku Hatsune and The Wizard of Oz), but otherwise, the XSEED article was decent. They're most definitely one of my favorite publishers; looking forward to all this stuff they're going to announce soon.

Also wondering what those big name games were-- the ones they were in talks over that would've "shocked the industry" if they had released them. Front Mission 5? Tales of Hearts?
Y'know Xenoblade, you're a pretty good game, but your main character is a fucking tool.
Right?
Most JRPG main characters are tools.
Tools of destruction.
Most JRPG main characters are tools.
Yeah, I know. It'd just be nice if the BEST JRPG EVER! had avoided the minor problem of its protagonist being a stupid little shit.

Yup, they hyped that shit up to no end, and it failed expectations miserably. I remember you were supposed to be able to import your BG2 character straight into NWN.....riiiiiiiight.....

To be fair, that would have been a really bad idea.

there's a theory that the protagonist should be someone that represents yourself in the story, or at least someone you would want to represent yourself.

maybe people in japan want to be stupid little shits.

when i think about it though, vesperia's protagonist in yuri was pretty bad ass and kind of representative of the moving state of the world; feels like in modern times people would rather be the shadow vigilante instead of being the tireless do-gooder.

So I got my copy of Dragon's Dogma. I pop it in, about 3 minutes in it gets to the loading screen but doesn't load. Ok reboot PS3, it does it again. Delete all my data including demo data doesn't fix it.

Disc is in 100% pristine perfect condition. Not a scratch, or fingerprint anywhere. :bomb:

Can anyone help? It's a PS3 copy btw. Never had any other problems with PS3 games.

See, it's not just about how hopelessly naive and idealistic Shulk is (though his refusal to kill a recurring and unrepentant villain was horrible). My biggest complaint by far is the sheer number of times he's had a vision of some horrible future and just not told anybody. And everyone around him seems to have realized that he's a god damn idiot by now so they specifically ask him about his visions whenever he starts acting weird. So he lies about what he saw. Constantly. Did he watch 12 Monkeys just before the game started or something? Stop being such a selfish little shit, Shulk.

It's probably because it's the GOTY that nobody can handle.

^ If we buy this and it blows do we get a refund from you? I will accept Canadian $. Its only for PC right?

Anyone excited for Bioshock Infinite? I really want it not to suck, buying it day 1. I know its a streching in for an RPG

Watching the footage again it does look fairly promising. Maybe I wasn't expecting it to be so balls out in the action department, but I may give it a rent.
Fortune Summoners is a Flash Sale today (75% off) - http://store.steampowered.com/app/203510/

(Again, y'all should play it ;))
Nooooo, I missed it

I have been playing the Dragonborn DLC for Skyrim. And even though I've only done the first three quests of the main story of it, it's already better than Dawnguard.

happy new years eve yallz!!!

gotta RPG update!

~25 hrs into Trails, jus finished chapter 2 yesterday.

I heard theyre having a tough time localizing the 2nd one coz it has a ton of text,

honestly if this game didnt have this much text it wouldnt taken me 25 hours to get this far!!!

ugh!

regardless the end of a chapter is always a good stopping point.

so in the free time I had just now I finally downloaded, installed, and modded Planescape Torment onto my computer!

it seems to work all well thus far, so next time I have a free evening (possibly friday) I'll try to dig into the game!
happy new years eve yallz!!!
Same to you and everyone else here :D

Played a lot of good RPGs this year. I won't have as much free time in 2013, but I at least have to finish Torchlight II. Also, I should finally get around to playing Tales of the Abyss.

Last few battle fields (7?) of Yggarda Union. Hopefully I can beat it. I hate when you get to the end of the RPGs and the last boss is something 10-15 levels above you. And because you've only been playing the game instead of grinding through, you can't win.

Several other :psp: RPGs to move on to. I really want to finish this so I can start Persona IS.
Free time can change the nature of a man.
I'm not sure if you're referencing to a thing,

but as a stand alone comment, I agree.

Early game BG is all about ranged weapons. Imoen? Get her a bow. Xzar and Montaron? Bow and sling. Your character? Unless you're playing a Cavalier, get your ass a ranged weapon.

Also, don't play a fucking Cavalier.
Here's a question.

What if I play a Cavalier?
You'll get to use the Holy Avenger in BGII (ie the sword of woop ass pwnage!)

Happy New Year ya'll!
