Woo! Buy Monster Hunter WiiU + 3DS get 20 off at Amazon. I was hoping there'd be some sort of deal. I'll consider it a free Circle Pad Plus... if it ever comes out...

Anyone else here double (or even single) dipping?
I only have a 3DS and used to kind of be thinking about getting it, but since I already played the heck out of MH3 on Wii and the 3DS version doesn't have online play and I don't know anyone locally to play with I'm kind of leaning towards not getting it. Hopefully if we get MH4 it will have online multiplayer.
So, playing FF9 on my PSP. Enjoying it so far, but just got my ass waxed a couple of times by a dragon who kills my guys with every hit. So, how to I get past him?
More specifics?
Nope, I'm playing on the PS2. I haven't noticed any battle loading times longer than maybe a minute. Sometimes they take longer, though? Hope it doesn't get any worse for me @_@
At worst maybe 5-10 seconds... you don't think you're exaggerating?
At worst maybe 5-10 seconds... you don't think you're exaggerating?
Probably was, but either way, they take longer than is reasonable.
More specifics?
Gizamaluke's Grotto, as I'm trying to catch up to the princess. I save the moogle, climb up, and there this big ass dragon.

You're not supposed to go there yet (as I recall). The dragon appears on the overworld, yes? That's a great grinding point later, once you can handle it, but it's kind of a "trap area" at this stage of the game. IIRC the moogle explicitly tells you not to go there, you rebel you.

Think I'm probably only a third of the way through Persona 2. I really need to turn off battle animations to speed up combat. I wish more games did an auto battle feature though.

So, where do I go? I think it was Freyja who was telling me that's the way I needed to go.

Edit: Is it the other exit from the bell room I couldn't open?

Edit2: Apparently that is the way to go according to walkthroughs.

Been replaying Ancient Ys Vanished aka Ys I (via Ys I & II Chronicles+ on Steam) this weekend and am near the end, though it looks like I'm currently missing an item. Really liking this remake, though it seems that it's harder to figure certain things out than in the Turbo CD version (it's been awhile since I played that, though, so I could be wrong). Having Adol and the enemies being able to move diagonally has also made battle a little tricker/more interesting.

If this is your first time going through, I think you want to skip going up.

Honestly I am so biased in favor of that game that I didn't mind the loading at all. Also I have a later 50001 model PS3 which seems to run a bit better than my old model. I was never a huge Tales fan until Abyss. Symphonia was alright but Abyss and Vesperia are two of my favorite games of all time. I think the free-run option was what Symphonia was missing.

Correct. I remember dying up there too.

The slow god damn drip of PE updates continues...

When did Link get horns and a chest?

RPG update: Uhh... I got nothing. Might start on one of the Atelier games soon, or Tales of Graces.

Man, it's almost as if Project Eternity is just stealing ideas. I'm already disappointed.

Edit: The character looks cool and looks like someone from a MtG card.
or Tales of Graces.
If you play it, I'll play it too.

I need something to motivate me to get those Tales games off my shelf.

For all that you can joke about it looking like Link or whatever, the bottom three heads are pretty much just D&D's "Genasi". If someone had told me that they were concept art from Neverwinter Nights 2, I'd have believed them.

On to Ys II and after searching everywhere and finally backtracking to a dungeon am at the part where all the monsters come out of the wall. It freaked me out the first time I played it, but I also think I remember the strategy I used to get past it, so using that for the second attempt.
Also a fucked up nose and ears, moss growing on his skin, and flowers growing from his head.
Very naturey. And I thought s/he was female.
Isn't that a pair of antlers?
Looks like horns, so a combo human-deer-ram-flowerbed?

She is female. I was using male pronouns only in response to the "Link" comment.

As for the antlers bit, I was responding to GhostShark comparing the tree on her jack to this thing from WoW:

YclT4yM.jpg

Which looks to me more like a set of antlers and a leaf than tree branches. Those are very much horns on her head, not antlers.

My apologies, I was thinking of Guardians of Hyjal, which is a similar tree on a brown backdrop with some green edging mixed in. Then again, there isn't much else you can really do if you're doing a nature theme for a design.

She's actually the Kalak-Cha!

Jagged Alliance 2 time. And if we're going to burn down an irredeemable shithole of a nation, we're gonna need someone with experience:

I really should have tried to import an actual portrait of him, first. I'll just have to live with my character looking like a disapproving Mel Gibson.

I don't know why I remembered this post when mentioning DD. I might start it next week.

Have any of you played the Hyperdimension Neptunia games? Are they any fun?

I have Graces, Vesperia, and Legendia still sealed on my shelf.

I love the series so much that I try to get other games out of the way first.

That tactic doesn't really work.

Let me know if you start playing it.

I only played some of the first one. It's not good. Imagine an indie studio trying to make an RPG.
I like Zeboyd Games.
Seconded. I also like Easy Game Station and Lizsoft (doujin totally counts as indie, right?). Oh, and Runic and Tales of Game's, too.

It's pretty bad that the RPG I am looking forward to the most this year is Barkley 2. Or awesome. Let's go with awesome.

My anticipation for Barkley 2 is somewhere below Etrian Odyssey IV and Rune Factory 4, and somewhere above Pandora's Tower and Pokemon X/Y. Can't wait!
I don't even know what that is. It sounds like a Pokemon. Or a STD.
I wish it was an STD. It would be way easier to contract and bring over the sequel.

Also, it's a Tales game.

I need to give Vesperia a shot. I always end up turned off by combat in the Tales games for whatever reason. I feel like I've never really given em a fair shot though.

You guys hear about Crimson Shroud on 3DS? Vagrant Story's one of my favorite games ever, and there's a lot of Ivalice/Lea Monde flare in there.

symphonia and vesperia are my tales picks, haven't played abyss though and graces F is sitting on my shelf as i work on ff dimensions and xenoblade. only other tales i've played was phantasia which i'm not too thrilled about.

ff dimensions is really quite entertaining. although it's $20 i have about 40 hours on it. seems like a very clever crossing of ff4/ff5 with after years-type linearity.

Vesperia and Abyss are my favorites in the series. For JRPGs the stories are good, and some likable characters too.

I always wanted a localization of the Destiny remake.
Be excited for Xillia so that they'll bring the sequel over.
I'm SUPER excited for that game, basically skipping out on starting Graces, which I own, since I played through and finished Abyss last year and didn't want to start another Tales game and get burned out on them before Xillia came out.

I still haven't played the original Barkley, but I probably should since I know a lot of people who talk about and love it.

I'm also super hyped about Etrian Odyssey IV, next week can't come quick enough (it will make my two hours of public transit commuting a day during the week a lot more bearable).

Pokemon X/Y are fairly exciting too, but I need to work on finishing up Black before those come out (since I still haven't finished it). The frog starter in X/Y is adorable, although I like the female trainer in Black/White more than the one for X/Y.

I haven't even started Black 2 yet and want to start doing some postgame stuff for White before that. X or Y is definitely one of those "won't preorder, but will likely get shortly after launch" games.

Prolly gonna get flamed, but I really don't see the love for Vesperia. Played it ~ 2 years ago, and maybe it was how hyped it was, but I thought it very meh. Actually preferred Legendia (pre-personal stories) to Vesperia... :whistle2:#

But yeah it's clear Crimson Shroud was made by the guy in charge of creating Ivalice. Definitely something I'll pick up eventually.
I always wanted a localization of the Destiny remake.
I'm still hoping for a good fan translation. looks. so. good.

Yeah I'm probably just going to end up skipping over the Black/White 2 games, finishing Black before X/Y comes out is enough of a goal, although I might start playing Black on my lengthy commute along with Etrian Odyssey IV so I could end up getting through it in a decent amount of time. I need to get back to Radiant Historia too since I was really enjoying that game but took a bit of a break from it and haven't managed to get back to it yet.

when i think about vesperia, i think that it was just a very solid game with likeable characters. it's nothing special or innovative, so if you're looking for those you won't find it in vesperia.

I'm 12 hours into ME2. Doing a lot of side quests, just getting a feel for things. This game is making me feel old, because I hate the cinematic dialog -- it should be paced by how fast I can read, not how fast some voice actor can spit out a line.

Also, why do they insist on bullshitting me with the "coolant clips" instead of just calling it "ammo"? They remarked in the codex or somewhere that the clips are universal -- if that's the case, why can't I share them between weapons? It's because they're bullshitting me. Just call it ammo because it *is* ammo.

I'm doing a lot of guessing on upgrades. Considering googling them against my better judgement. I'm having a tough time figuring out in-game what weapons do what. Not a lot of numbers provided, unless I'm missing something.

ME2 doesn't have any mutually exclusive upgrades, does it? The only real sticking point in that game was money, as I recall, and even that was largely alleviated with DLC.
