[Rumor?] Buy 2 Get 1 free at Toys R US. Is coming soon read inside

Personally I'd rather see this in November or so again. I know you've got like 30 days to exchange games, but most of the stuff I'm looking forward too isn't out until later. Still, I could hold on to a couple to swap back for Burnout 3 and Fable next month if I wait until the end of the sale... If it is scheduled for more than one week I may even be able to pull out Star Wars: Battlefronts. I really wish that this would've been early November again though. Ghost Recon 2, Splinter Cell 3, and Doom 3 would have been a sweet deal.

I'm really wanting SO3 and Phantom Brave..

They will allow you to exchange something you bought at the time for something that just came out, as long as the return policy hasn't expired?

This sale did indeed come two months too early. It would have been so easy to just wait until november 15th when i could get 3 new releases... halo 2, ratchet and clank 3, and metroid prime 2... that would be awesome.

If you bought games now, they would probably let you exchange them around Christmas. Stores are usually pretty cool with exchanges around that time. I did it last year with no problems.

oh good, now I don't have to worry about what games I will get first...now I can get all 3 games taht I wanted at once.

Last year they were fine with exchanging a game of the same regular price during the 30 day return period (unopened, of course). A friend was still able to get them to swap a couple of weeks later, but they weren't so appreciative, and it took some haggling. Best bet is to count on being able to swap them for 30 days.

And I'm still going to hope that this is BS and that they wait for a holiday promotion like last year...

I smell Bullshit, also.

Aug. 14th is my B-Day, also. The funny thing is, it's a Saturday. Every retail chain I know start their sales on Sunday, including TRU in the past.

My last receipt from TRU quotes a 45 day return, when did 30 day kick in?

hmm i used to be all over this deal like a fat kid on a chicken finger sub, but this site has taught me different. 3 $50 games for $33.33 a piece? Hmmm i don't think so. Thats not even a $20 price drop per game. I guess i'll wait unless your one of those types that has to have the new hot games a month after they came out.

I take it that the deal hasn't been verified yet, then...I'm not expecting it to happen, but I can always hope.

Still, there's no source...and isn't $50 million in revenue from one sale a bit extreme? On top of that, the wording in the "announcement" is anything but professional - I don't think I've ever seen a press release use the phrase "out there" in my life. Cheapy's already called it, but the "deal" is most likely :bs:

Did the previous sale include GBA and PC games? I may be the only CAG without a current console, but I'll be damn disappointed if I can't take part in the sale - assuming it happens, that is...

I know what you're saying, but there are some games I just desire much on release (mostly Nintendo titles and RPGs that I'm really interested in). 33.33 is a great price for a brand new release, especially with a title (random, random example) like Metroid Prime 2 that won't go down for a long time. Those are the kind of titles I try to pick up with this sort of sale.

Wind Waker would be good to get as well as Mario Kart : Double Dash since they probably won't be seeing that much of a price drop.

Hard to say until it's official. There have been previous such sales, some with coupons required, that were PS2 only. I suspect this was due to sheer volume of PS2 releases in those days compared to the competing systems. The need to clear out some PS2 inventory was greater.

November, leading into the most important buying season and some of the biggest releases of the year? I don't think I'll hold my breat waiting for a B2G1 that late in the year. The point of doing it at this juncture is to clear out space for the holiday titles.

Ya know, i was thinking the same thing, It is better to just wait until the games drop to $10 each or get clearanced out at BB, target, CC or EB/GS

Aug 14 would be 2 weeks too soon for me. Star Ocean 2, Phantom Brave and Pikmin 2 all come out 31st (What a week).

If this was legit, I guess I could always try to do an exchange once they come out. Then there's the question of what systems would it be for.

Honestly I agree with the BS call and expect one in October. It's perfect timing from TRU's standpoint. In October you've already got some high profile games on the counter. It builds up good will with customers, and brings the opurtunity for tack on sales. Generates traffic when people aren't quite doing as much shopping. Yet TRU doesn't have to sell the biggest games of the year, almost all are in Nov, for cheap.

Why? Obviously it'll be cheaper, but if there's a game out there that you love you've got to show it with your wallet. Look at Beyond Good and Evil - critically acclaimed, and most of the people who bought it seemed to like it. The problem is, most people bought it for $10 or $20. The game obviously didn't do all that well commercially...and now there's not a chance in hell of a sequel because of it.

I can't say that I don't do the same thing...but if you really love a series or genre, it couldn't hurt to get one of the games at full price occasionally, so the publishers and retail chains can see that someone does care. Just some food for thought...

Last year's sale was done in November, going into that big season. IT's not just to clear out space, it's to get people into the store for games and have them drop money on other Christmas shopping while they're there. I picked up Rainbow Six 3 the week of it's release on this deal last year, so that should pretty much pin down exactly when it was. Only time will tell this year....

IIRC, this sale went on a couple of years ago and I picked up timesplitters 2, red faction 2 and tony hawk 4. Good sale, lets all hope it happens again. I agree, though, that it looks quite unprofessional.

These B2G1 free deals are always ideal for myself and a couple of friends to attend to. Each person finds a new release he/she wants and there you go, a $50 for $33.33, not a bad deal at all.

Actually, it looks like there may be TWO sequals coming out for BG&E. Just rumors, but I'd say there is at least a chance in hell ;)
I see nothing in that article to promote the idea that a sequel is coming.
I'm just saying that the fact that its even being talked about gives it a chance in hell. I didn't say it was confirmed, just did it more as tounge in cheek. Glad to see you picked up on it though.

If it REALLY does happen, then great. Last year I picked up some decent games. I believe Rainbow Six, Top Spin and ESPN Basketball (which I sold for $40). So, 2 new games at the time for $30/each ,not too bad.

Too bad there are not many good XBOX games that come out around August 14th...

if it's true

I'm totally with you on that (and nice DLF reference as well), but what I like to do is find only 1 or 2 games that I want, and one more that goes on ebay for near full price (read: madden), then sell that game on ebay, so i'd be getting 3 new games for around 100$, sell one for around 45$, so the 2 I keep end up costing around 26ish. Not too bad for a new release like Tales of Symphonia. Works even better if you only want 1 game. it ends up being around like 10$ if you keep 1 and sell the other 2.

Looks like I'm not exactly keeping on top of gaming news...oops.

Still nothing official at all...but no denial either, for that matter. I'm still holding out hope for this one, if only because I need to get Astro Boy and Metal Slug for my GBA. We'll see what happens...

I've known about this article before it was posted here. This is just talk - the series was intended for three, but it won't be happening. There's close to zero percent chance and the fact that someone in charge talks about how it was -intended- to be a trilogy doesn't make the sales look any better.

Don't hold your breath.
Hmm.. this deal kinda fits well with the announcement of them getting out of the toy business, doesn't it?
For some reason, that hadn't occurred to me yet. Hmm...

Looking at the BBC article on Toys R Us, two things are worth noting.
Decisions on store closures will come once the end-of-year holiday season is over, the firm said.

In the meantime, Toys-R-Us is expected to take $150m (£82.3m) in markdowns in the second quarter of the year, to account for inventory build-up.
The stores won't be closing anytime soon, so no out-of-business sales just yet. The second quote is more important for our cheap ass desires. It's probably just a coincidence, but it fits rather nicely with the supposed sale that we're talking about here.

I still think it's bull, but we'll see in a little while...
