Scrubs, Season 8 (Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on ABC)

That was a really good finale...very satisfying. As soon as JD
walked out at the end and they started showing the home-movie images I started to tear up a bit. Reminded me of the Six Feet Under finale, which used the flash-forward device much more artistically.

I was a little disappointed that
Brendan Fraser's "Ben" wasn't in the hallway at the end. Good to see Laverne back, though.
Keep it holy, now.

The funniest part of the finale. I hope this is the end, it was pretty a much perfect ending. How can it be better?

Hooch being there had me laughing out loud. Loved his appearance. I honestly hope it doesn't come back after going out on this high note.

I guess it could also be viewed as just JD's departure from Sacred Heart, but still. I don't want it back. That was the perfect ending.

I didn't know that the the series finale. I have only watch the show on comedy central and every now and then when I see it on abc or another channle. As I was watching it I was wondering how they would do the show with out JD due to the fact that it seems the show is based around him. However at the end during the credits they were saying "thats a season wrap for (name of actor)" so I that got me thinking it was a season finale. Also
I don't think they did say what the janitor's name is. He told JD what it was then someone else came by and called him Tom. So we really don't know what his name is because he messed with everyone but more so JD.

The show IS about him. It's his journey as a doctor. That's why each episode is titled "My somethingorother".. like "My Old Lady", "My Soul on Fire", "My Finale", etc.

I don't think they did say what the janitor's name is. He told JD what it was then someone else came by and called him Tom. So we really don't know what his name is because he messed with everyone but more so JD.

That could really be viewed three ways:

1. Janitor lies to everyone and his name is still unknown.
2. Janitor lies to JD and tells the truth to everyone else, Tom is his real name.
3. Janitor lies to everyone else but tells JD the truth since JD finally confessed to leaving a penny in the door on his first day.

I have to agree with everyone here that is was probably one of the best sitcom finales I have seen. They handled it just about perfectly. The montages at the end were all just possibilities but at the same time you really want them to be true.

As much as I have loved Scrubs throughout the years, I really do hope this is the end. As Scorch said, the ending is just too perfect to suddenly start a 9th season. John McGinley said in an interview that they all just felt blessed to have been given the 8th season so the show could end the way it was supposed to end. I'm really glad ABC gave them the chance to do just that.

Darn it! They edited out Lisa the Giftshop Girl (who is a doctor on a certain show...) and Franklyn.

Aw well, great ending anyway. It wrapped everything up, and at least JD's son didn't marry the other JD.

This ranks with the best finales I have ever seen. I feel privileged to have been able to spend 8 years with these characters.

Not gonna lie, I started tearing up at the hallway scene and by the end was in full blown sobbing.

I didn't think it was that great.. absolutely nothing happened.. just an hour of goodbyes

the best part was the jordan/ted interaction, lol'd at "I wanna touch it but I don't."

Im glad people are loving it the same way I did........funniest part was definitely when JD has the fantasy of him having the Sitcom ending and the hospital shuts down. I was laughing for a good 30 seconds

Damn it.

From THR.com:

Veteran comedy "Scrubs" is inching closer to a return for a ninth season on ABC with most of the main cast members locked in to return.

Star Zach Braff has closed a deal to come back for six episodes to transition the show to its new set-up, which is still being worked out.

Also signed for six episodes is Sarah Chalke.

Donald Faison, John C. McGinley and Neil Flynn have all closed deals to continue as regulars in second position to their pilots. Faison and Flynn co-star in hot ABC pilots, "The Law," which is already unofficially staffing, and "The Middle," respectively. McGinley is on CBS' drama pilot "Back."

Meanwhile, Judy Reyes has not been approached for a deal but may appear as a guest star if "Scrubs" is renewed.

It is still not clear if "Scrubs" would continue as a single-camera comedy or would switch to a multi-camera format or a hybrid single/multi setup.

ABC and creator Bill Lawrence had said they envision the show continuing with a mix of original cast members and some of the interns introduced this past season.
Why?
I figure reinventing scrubs is cheaper then making a new show. Also a new show you for sure not guaranteed dvd sales. Plaster the Scrubs name on a show and your guaranteed for it to be released on dvd and be part of the eventual 95 disk "Scrubs Total Collection" and make even more $$$.

Also new shows seem to get killed after 3 episodes. Something like scrubs already has some name recognition so at least it has a chance of people watching it.
Why?
Syndiaction money. ABC owns Scrubs, and Scrubs is widely syndicated. It's the same reason why shows like According to Jim stayed on forever.

You dont have to continue the show to get syndication money....you think Jerry Seinfeld doesnt get a big fat fucking syndication check every month?

Cringe-inducing season 9 details, straight from Entertainment Weekly, paraphrased because I don't want to type the whole page:

The comedy will shift itself from the hospital to the classroom and make med-school professors of John C. McGinley's Dr. Cox and Donald Faison's Turk. Sacred Heart won't go away altogether. Students will occasionally rotate through its halls and bump into many of its familiar faces. Zach Braff (JD), Sarah Chalke (Elliot), Judy Reyes (Carla), and Ken Jenkins (Kelso) have agreed to make guest appearances. Neil Flynn has a costarring role as Patricia Heaton's husband in the new ABC sitcom "The Middle", so the Janitor will be MIA.

d'oh.

seems like a solid set-up for a spinoff but it doesnt make sense to keep the name.. should be called something else and be a series premiere, not season 9 of scrubs

sounds like crap

It's that dreaded "repackaging" word. When they take something which has a lofty standard and change it in order to keep things going. Unless it somehow becomes that "Frasier" type success, I don't see it living up to expectations and having an awful last year. Depending on who is in and who is gone I could still watch it, but the show "ended" for me with Season 8. And it was a damn fine farewell. I wish they had done a little more with Turk and J.D. in that finale though.

On a side note, I've watched the pilot episodes of both "The Middle" (Neil Fylnn's pilot show) and "The Law" (Donald Faison's pilot) thanks to the e-rewards surveys. Let me tell you, unless they seriously retooled it, "The Middle" was AWFUL and "The Law" wasn't too far behind it.

So even though Season 9 of Scrubs may sound and taste bitter to me, at least it will keep the actors working for another year until maybe something better comes along.

Scrubs sounds like it's going to tank for its 9th season. Even during its ratings dwindling, Scrubs still had the whole "creative, well done show" thing going for it.

Even though this is a blatant money grab, like Bioshock 2, I will still watch this ninth season, just like I will buy Bioshock 2.
