I have a Japanese (V-Saturn) I recently got Dungeons & Dragon's Collection and realized Disc 2 (Shadows of Mysteria) requires a 4MB Cart. I have the normal Expansion Cart but not the 4MB one. Anyways I'll stop beating around the bush. Will the Saturn Game Shark work on my Japanese system? I'm pretty sure it would but was curious if anyone is 100% sure before I drop $15 on one. Here's a link to an ebay item if anyone needs to a referance:

Thanks in advance.

I'm 99% positive that's not the one you need. I used to have one of these, and if I remember correctly, it will allow imports to play on a US system, but the 4MB of backup memory isn't used for games that require the extra RAM, it's used for codes and backing up your saves.

One of these is what you might need:

That being said, I know the 4M Action Replay it works on a US Saturn to play import games that require the 4M or 1M expansions, but I don't know if it works the other way around.

Since you have a Japanese V-Saturn, have you considered just getting a legitimate Sega 4M RAM cart?

I'd actually perfer getting that. I saw that they go for around $10 - $20 on eBay but there currently isn't any availible to bid on right now. Know any place that may carry them, for cheap?

I've been looking for random saturn peripherals off and on for quite some time. The only time I've come across a 4 meg card was either through a system sale or one of the old Capcom fighting games. That's how I got my first one.

Edit: Someting like this. SNK instead of Capcom but it should still work.

The cheapest way to get the official one might be, like daphatty said, by buying a game that included one. Vampire Savior or X-men vs. SF are probably the cheapest games that came with the cart. Then again, if you already have either of those games, that plan's a wash.

Did they ever make a Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter bundle that comes with the 4MB Ram cart? I didn't see one. I'd rather have that game instead.

Thanks guys. Most likely I'll just get the X-Men vs SF bundle. Can't wait to play D&D: Shadows of Mystara. One of my favorite beat em-ups ever. Too bad the Saturn version is limited to only 2-Players.

Yes, they did make a MSH vs SF bundle with the cart you need.

Awsome, I'll keep an eye out for one. Thanks

Hey Jared.

I've got the SNK Fighters Japanese, #HSS-0150 Saturn 1MB RAM card on my list to trade/sell if interested.

I don't know if that's not enough for you though.

the SNK ram cart does not work with capcom games.

Thanks Brian, but that's the one I have already. And Halo's right, that'll work with certian games but not Disc 2 of D&D.

If anyone comes across one of these, let me know:
actually i am wrong as Dungeons & Dragons disc 2 only support the 1MB RAM cart.
D&D Disc 2 requires a 4MB cart, the 1MB cart will not work.

D&D Disc 1 doesn't require anything to play, not even the 1MB cart.

Sorry to bring up an old topic but I'm a little confused on this whole thing. I bought House of the Dead from Japan and I'm in the U.S. Whats the cheapest way for me to play this game on my U.S. Saturn? Does it make a difference to get the Gameshark or Action Replay are they any different or the same.

Since that game doesn't require any extra RAM you could just get the ol' ST Key.

Just saw this thread. To anyone still looking for 4MB ram, 1 MB ram, or a region convertor, this is a fantastic product:

http://www.ncsxshop.com/cgi-bin/shop/EMS-ARP.html

It will play games that require the 1MB cart (and don't work with the official 4MB card) or games that require the 4MB cart and it will override the region protection. I've used it since Xmen vs SF came out and it's wonderful.

The only drawback is that you have to push start a couple of times to get through the Action Replay menu, and Panzer Dragoon Saga won't run with it (something about the game choking when there's anything in the cart slot). But if you have a US saturn, and a US PDS, it's not needed anyway.

Sorry I'm using this stupid proxy server at work and dumb stuff happens. (doesn't paste right and can't use the edit button) It was buy it now for $14.99. Would that work?
Hrrm I looked those st keys up and they were kinda expensive. Wouldn't this do the same plus let me play some of the games that need memory?
Look to the 2nd post in this thread.
Please go with the Capcom 4 meg cart. From experience, I've seen several 3rd party ones crap out.
My first one crapped out, after 4 years of problem free use. #2 has been going strong since 2002. If you go with the Capcom cart, you still need to install a region switch unless you have a japanese Saturn. Or you could just risk it all and hot swap with the Gameshark. You're call I guess.

Edit: Sorry I missed WSB's post about the same product on eBay. But it's worth a couple extra bucks to get it from NCS, imo. Also to A_D_D, yes the Gameshark will allow you to play imports that don't require a RAM or ROM cart.

I have a gameshark and it will allow 4mb/1mb games and imports to boot on my NTSC and NTSC-J Saturns. The only difference I have noticed other than it is ALOT cheaper and it is black and matches my case is that it doesn't have a memory card option like the action replay. But that was a flop anyway as you had to boot to the AR screen and copy the files from the AR to the Saturn and vie versa everytime as you couldn't axxs the device from the game screen. :(

EDIT

I have used mine for over 5 years and not a glitch other than I had to do the darkstalkers mod to it to get those certain pesky Capcom games to boot as they tried to disable third party devices but was easily fixed by cutting a trace point on the board and adding one wire :)
