Sega VP of Marketing Bashes Wii - Now Praising Wii after a couple of angry calls
Third party publishers can make the most money by putting a game on all platforms, and the Wiis limited power will make it unlikely that games like Bioshock, Assassin's Creed etc. get ported over. Which kind of sucks, as at least with the Gamecube we got versions of the good third party games like Price of Persia, Beyond Good and Evil etc. that played and looked great.

This might not be entirely true this generation due to the extreme opposites in development costs between 360 and PS3 and Wii.

I think I saw somewhere it costs on avg. 20 mil to make a PS3 game and 5 mil for the wii. (these might be off a bit but I think they are at least close)

I don't know about you but to me that seems like the smart business decision is going to be plunking down that 20 mil into 3 or 4 games and increasing your likelihood of a smash. The large user base helps out the Wii in this aspect also.

Good point shuerm26. Even more so if the Wii outsells the others. Then the only thing that will hurt third party support is some developers are graphics whores themselves and only want to make games with the most powerful hardware.

But that just gets to the fact that if you want to play stuff like Gears and Bioshock you're going to have to buy more than just a Wii anyway, so it's pretty much moot point.

I think if the Wii had good online suppot for all It's games I would have less reason to buy multiplatform games on my 360.

When the XBox was out I bought every single multiplatform game for the XBox because it a) had better graphics/frame rate b) online features and c) usually the most polished of the group. Now the Wii has the chance to have the worst graphics, but the best control scheme. If the Wii games had more online to them it would be perfect, and I would be willing to take less graphics for better control and the online potential.

I own over 150 XBox games and only about 40 PS2 and 40 Gamecube games. The PS2 and Gamecube games were "exclusive" or only out on the PS2 and Gamecube, and which case I bought the Gamecube version in favor of support for Nintendo. Out of those 150 XBox Games I'd say about 80% of the games were multiplatform.

So if third party developers would take the plunge and work with Nintendo introducing online features (I'm buying Madden for the Wii the next time I buy Madden) I think they would have a whole lote more money to play with. Not only from me but everyone else that complains about the lack of online abilities.
For me it's the first time I've seen a game that really captures the whole mod scene on PC on console in any form. As someone who doesn't play PC games at all besides the occasional adventure game, this has me incredibly excited. Furthermore I feel that unlike the majority of the PC mod community, there's a real concerted effort to encourage the user base to create a decent part of the game without it being crapped up by the openness of a persistence world a la Second Life. Furthermore, the distribution methods seem to ensure some consistency in getting quality levels before having to really wade through the crap.

I'm just super excited that we're getting a very PC minded game without any of the things I dislike about the PC platform. It's not amazingly original if you play PC stuff, but there's really nothing like it on the console front.
Interesting. Now I really want to take a look at the level editor to see how flexible it is. We've seen lots of games do the whole "put these limited number of tiles sets and items in any order you choose" thing, and it hasn't amounted to a hill of beans. But a really robust system could really knock it out of the park. I'll be keeping an eye on this now. Thanks.

My position on next gen:
Xbox360≥Gamecube>Wii=PS3

PS3 and Wii need games. Really soon. I play my Gamecube more than my Wii.
