Is there any way of knowing which stores are closing? I would like to know which ones are closing in the Southern California area but I don't want to look through 30+ pages of comments hoping to find something.
 
I'm in the San Jose area. I confirmed with one of the local stores that the only ones remaining will be Los Gatos and Capitol & McKee.

Story Rd, Evergreen, Blossom Valley, and Santa Clara stores all closing.

My hollywood video guy said the stores that are closing will be reopening in a year as independent stores and the only stores closing are the game crazys attached to hollywood videos.

Blossom Valley being the one on Blossom Hill & Almaden, right? so sad.

I was told yesterday that ALL LA / OC stores are closing, with two exceptions,....Baldwin Park and Santa Fe Springs (stand alone store). That totally sucks :(

I have no idea what's closing and what isn't. The store locator still shows 10 within my metro area - looks to be the same as it always was but I'll call my closest store (where I have a ton of credit sitting on the account) and ask them. I can't imagine that one is closing since it is sort of one of their main stores but maybe they can tell me what others are closing.

Agreed - you'd think they would wait till after Xmas and use this time to liquidate a lot of their inventory. With them pulling all that stock from regular HWV stores at the same time as closing all these GC locations I have to wonder where all this stuff is going to?

Well, hopefully things will stabilize after this. It is tempting, though, to buy a couple of DSi's with the credit I have left. As much as it pales in comparison to those of you losing your jobs, it does suck for those with $100-$400 (or more) in credit. We've seen this sort of thing happen before where credit can get wiped out in the blink of an eye. While they may only be closing some fraction of stores right now, who's to say they won't decide to close it up entirely in a couple more months? It certainly isn't a good thing for anyone involved that they are closing so many stores so suddenly.

Like I said yesterday, my local HWV did the same thing. They said they are converting it to a "Budget Gamezone". However, appearance is everything and while it looked like a nicely stocked mini game store before, now it looks like a sparsely shelved cheap old crappy game store. The Gamezone section is a shell of its former self with lots of empty space in the case and only a handful of interesting games (all $19.99 and under).
 
Just spoke with the guys at the Golden Valley, MN location - their store, along with every other store in the Twin Cities save for the Cottage Grove and Blaine location, will be closing. They were actually in the process of packing everything up as I came in...

Well, I just called my local store and got one of the regulars. He said they are fine but he has no idea what stores (if any) were closing in this area. I thought that was somewhat interesting as you'd think it would be a topic of conversation among the employees there.

As I find out more I'll try to put together a list and post it here.

Just thought I'd mention to employees of closing locations that Toys R Us started (I think today) taking applications for 35,000 seasonal jobs nationwide.

By the posts, it does seem like more than 200. It'd be interesting to see how many stores are closing and where there are located.

The more populace areas seem to have a higher percentage of closings though. LA looks to be almost decimated, NY is seeing a lot of theirs close too. Perhaps it's because there is so much saturation of game stores there - mostly with Gamestops.
 
could the op update it with a list of confirmed closing stores? might be too much work. but will be greatly appreciated.

Damn, Cleveland, OH (Lorain Ave) is where I have my 360 warranty (new as of June). Certainly hope they will honor it at another store.
 
Drove by my local Gamecrazy in Portage/Kalamazoo MI the other day on my way to class and noticed that it was closed down along with the Hollywood Video that it was connected to. There was a sign on the door to gamecrazy but didn't bother going to read it. Wonder if they'll sell off their stock or just ship it elsewhere.
 
Just tried to use the GC store locator to find the phone number for the GC I goto, to see if they were closing. It did not list my local GC. I went onto google to search area and found it. Called the number listed with it and it said that it has been disconnected. I guess some of them closed down the store early?

For southwest OH, I'm near Middletown and Springboro, and neither are closing. They did say that they are getting an influx of merchandise from the closing stores, though. Wonder if there will be any deals to be had there.
 
Does Gamecrazy do anything to prevent their employees from buying everything good before the public gets a chance?

I'd kill for a few titles or one 4000 pt XBL card

If its just like when one of the HWV I worked at closed..then no. Cause I have amazing pics of all the awesome stuff I bought for 90% off the last week we were open.
 
Would be funny if someone bought a PS3 at GC today and returned it on Saturday to a store that was closing, then had there friend immediately behind them in line demand to buy it for 30% off... Haha wonder why is it always so much easier to think of ways to scam then it is to actually find legitimate ways to make money??

it depends on your employee. i got a trade at a closing one. someone else mentioned that you had to put the credit on a new gc because the system won't allow put more money on an old one. better act fast.
 
The Modified the joystiq article slightly, here are the corrected dates and price drops.

The timetable for the liquidation, corroborated by several sources:

10/3-10/11: 30% off everything in the store
10/12-10/18: 50% off everything in the store
10/19-Closing: 80% off everything in the store

There doesn't seem to be a consistent date for when the stores will close, but we haven't heard of any location staying open beyond October 27.

Personally, I find working to be much more efficient than scamming game stores.

i think i would rather be there on 10/3 at 30% then wait almost 10 days and have everything gone at 50%
 
Oh yea, when I asked the manteca store guy when their last day was he said "I think we're all closing on the 25th." Maybe he was referring to all closing locations???
 
I talked to my buddies at one of the Colorado Springs stores. He told me that they'll probably only have about 10-15% of their inventory after Friday, which probably means that they'll have plenty of Gamecbue, PS2 and XBox games along with plenty of copies of Fight Night Round 4 come Saturday. All consoles/anything else good will be shipped to other stores.
 
The one in Cookeville, Tennessee is staying open. *Sigh of relief*

But now where can I convince my parents to go get Christmas presents? D: Anybody know of any stores closing in Tennessee? I don't have the time to look through all the pages to find out... :/

Also, thanks to entrepeneurs, I can't really see ANYTHING in these stores past the 50% off mark, and I can almost guarantee the closing stores are going to be swarmed and sold out of all their good games on 10/3. Anyone else predicting someone similar?

EDIT: Called around a bit. According to stores who I was able to get in touch with, Hendersonville and Antioch, Tennessee's locations will be closing and liquidated. I wasn't able to call Knoxville's or Oak Ridge's Game Crazys, so I'm guessing they're already closed.

well the 30% off is only USED GAMES and A.. no systems no new stuff... ALL systems and new games are being shipped to stores that are staying open...
 
any east bay stores closing?
just checked the store locator and the one in hayward isnt listed anymore and the one right by me(castro valley) is still listed
 
Vegas store Lake Mead & Buffalo staying open, thank God.

No way a fire sale would make up for the loss of my favorite video store.

Hmmm....Omeggy, I just called the Easton one a few minutes ago and the manager (I recognized his voice) told me they were staying open too. All 3 staying open seems extremely unlikely. Think we got bad info?
 
They're injecting a massive amount of shit into the liquidation stores. Literally. I got a 14 page transfer request today and it was all used games and $18.99 new/under games. Nothing really worth noting at all. It should be noted that all the stores that will be liquidating items have also received transfer paperwork. I don't know if they're transferring the good titles out of stores that are liquidating or not, but the transfers MUST be completed by close of 10/2, the night before the liquidation starts.

Locations expected to shutter have received boxes and a list of items that are to be sent back for redistribution, which allegedly includes "all systems, major first party accessories (controllers, memory, etc)." The "majority" of games released within the last year will be also be sent out, "both new and used."

10/3-10/11: 30% off everything in the store

For one thing, the 30/50/80% off applies to everything in the store, which includes used AND new games, accessories, and miscellaneous items. And as the quote from Joystiq states, new systems, first-party accessories, and *most* games released within the last year are being sent to stores staying in business.
