Closest GC store to me that's closing is 30+ miles away and just judging from the HWV/MG closing sales there's going to either be A) nothing left by 40% off or B) lotsa shit left but wayyyyyy overpriced and still not worth it even with the % off.
 
hey just a tip...talk to the girl work n at hollywood and on the last day of the store closing ...movies are 40 cents and games are 50 cents... If anything is good by then its a steal.. Hell i pick up anything at them prices....already happen at one of my local hollywood stores but i missed it...didnt no it....Jus waitng for the next two now......

at the HVW that closed by me...movies were .49 cents

but games were only 90% off price marked....still not bad...but not as good as .50 cent games...


by then all that was left was gamecube/ xbox/ and ps2 games though
 
I visit two HVW the pass two weeks.

HVW- on Little Creek Road. Norfolk, Va
40% off, alot crappy and over price games for Ps3, but still got plenty average selection for 360 and wii

HVW- Hampton, VA
20% off, good amount games for all consoles. I'm still waiting on more % discounts. From what I heard they have about 2 weeks left before closing.

That's when you check the Gamestop threads first page for GC/PS2 game trade values and make the most of the 90% off on leftover games by grabbing up tons of shitty older games to dump on GS for one of the promos.

If you could've found 6 games, that's an extra 40% in TIV(50% w/ EDGE), so you could turn $20-30 in cheap store closing games into $100-150 in credit in no time. Well, that is unless all that was left was Madden, Madden and more fuckin' Madden.:roll:

You're quite welcome. It's too bad GS already stopped taking in Xbox games and is now trying to clearance them out, since I see them in somewhat great numbers at many thrift stores now, including some better titles like the Halo games.
 
Hammond, IN is currently at 20% off, but I think they just started a week or two ago.
Movie prices didn't look too great, either.
 
Truth of the matter is even if the Game Crazy's "thought" they were doing great and are closing because "hollywood did horrible last year" it's not entirely true.

One of the big problems that Hollywood Inc had (even before Movie gallery took over) was that it did not manage the 2 companies separately as it should have.

For instance, if a Hollywood has a Game Crazy in it, their Income is treated separately so that they can tell how much each store made, etc..... But when it comes to Rent/Utilities/Etc, all of that was charges ONLY to the Hollywood side of the corporation.

Game Crazy did not have to deal with any of that in their PNL statements, we were just told what we were making and how much profit we had based on that.

If they were to break it down and split the rent and utilities and whatnot, then a lot of the Game Crazies that thought they were really profitable and doing GREAT would not have had such a positive outlook.


For instance, here in Vegas we had quite a few game crazies and even opened a stand alone (which I'm told is closing or already closed).

In order for the Stand Alone to prove to be worth while it had to pull in $1.5 million a year.

NOT a single game crazy in Vegas was pulling in that money. We had one or two that hit over 1 million and one or two close, but no one near 1.5 mill.

Simple fact is that Game crazy could not compete with GameStop the way they are/were being run because they are not willing to put the kind of money into the business that Gamestop is.

It wasn't until close to store closing times that I started even receiving weekly emails about deals.

GC never got into advertising in order to draw in new business, they expected word of mouth to be enough.

GC never bothered having good enough deals to bring people in consistantly, we were just told to match whatever Game Stop is doing and let your customers know. That is fine, but it's only helping out current customer clients, it is not building new relationships which is what you need to do.

I loved the company while I worked there and I still keep in touch with my former employees. I was sad to leave them when I quit and I was sad to see them all let go less than 6 months later when they started the first round of closings.

Hopefully one day I can get back into "games" as a store manager of Game Stop and see what the differences are and how that company can stay successful when GC failed miserably.

Gamecrazy is to Gamestop as TNA is to WWE and that's the problem. Even if the top dog sucks hard, you can't suck worse. B1G1 on $18.99 games is possibly the worst sale idea I had ever heard of.
 
The $18.99 games improved this past Holiday season. They added more recent stuff.. I don't remember everything, but I remember Mirror's Edge being part of the deal.

Thanks for the info, Paco. I spoke with some higher ups and they told me that there's still stores that will be closing and will be notified by April 9th. After April 9th, whatever is left will remain open.
 
Daaaaamnnn. All 3 GC's next to me are closing...I wish I had re-checked sooner, I have no idea when they started shutting down.

I checked a few months back, and none of the stores were going down, but now they all are.

i gotta go check it out.

a friend of mine who lives in the Bay area said the GC at Pinole is also closing. they moved the remaining stock into the Hollywood Video.

NO problem. Though it is truly the end of an era. Thanks to its location and the fact that they didn't constantly annoy me with pre ordering and edge cards, I made the gamecrazy my local choice in purchasing games. I knew the last few managers and they were all cool. There was one douche, but he got fired rather quickly.

Today is the last day that the Gamecrazy will be open, and with that, my most likely last visit to one. If they still have Phantasy Star Portable, I'll pick that up.

This is usually where we play taps, or some other death song, but lets go with something a bit more upbeat to celebrate the life and death cycle. The all purpose utility song.

Gamecrazy. It was a nice ride, conveniently located, and right next to a Chinese restaraunt and grocery store. You made life a bit easier to go to since I always took a look at what was there since I always figured why not? I remember the classic plastic deals, the buy one get one free, the time they gave coupons for free rentals that never expired and free cases, manuals, and disc covers for my games. You shall be missed.

its already closed in pinole, i went there last week and they have old ps3/360 games just with a disc and a case in the HWV next to it, all the good games got shipped to either san jose or santa rosa GC (those are the only 2 stores left in the Bay Area)
 
Just called the 3 around me, the first two sounded cleaned-out from what the guy told me.

The 3rd one sounded promising...but its only 20% off everything :(

I just left the one at Lake Mead/Buffalo. Got 5 2000 point Wii/DSi cards for $80...not to shabb. I personally know the managers at both the GC and the Hollywood...they already have jobs lined up so at least they will land on their feet.

I dunno if anyone has notice this, but the GameCrazy.com site is down....the Store Locator works but everything else is down. Bad sign indeed......still kills me driving by our closed store that still has a Game Crazy sign in the window....*sigh* memories.
 
I called the Game Crazy where i live and they said starting Monday Hollywood Video will be liquidating their games for them since they will be closing immediatly.
 
Yikes. Not really sure who handles their liquidations, but it's ridiculous. Walked in yesterday, and the store looks almost empty, yet everything is at 20%.
There's no way customers bought the rest of the merchandise (even after the original shipment back to corporate). I think corporate is taking every little piece of valuable stuff, and only fodder will have the extra % off (if at all).

I picked up a copy of Madden 10 for 360 for $13.xx after discount at a closing HWV that had about a week left, so not all of the good stuff was removed.
 
My local HWV looks like it got pillaged pretty bad, there is literary nothing there. Some guy picked up 7 games and like 10 DVD's on his way out at 40% off. >_>
 
I went in to the Headquarters Gamecrazy store (Wilsonville, OR) the other day and the employees there looked shell-shocked. There was no one else in the store and it looked different, though most of the stock was still there. They said no one comes in since the"news". But what I realized later was something Scorch told me might happen: they had removed all the MVP and preorder info, as well as their demo game systems. However, all their other merchandise including all the used and new games were still intact. At the time I didn't realize the closures might be spreading so I actually had no idea about this "news" despite my connections here on CAG ;).

However, they said they were still in limbo in regards to closing/liquidation but that it didn't look good. One held out hope for a last minute reprieve (a call from the governor perhaps?) but the other seemed more pessimistic and said it was just that corporate was still negotiating with the liquidation company. I have to say if this store is getting shut down, then it doesn't look good for the whole chain. The store locator still shows it as a valid location along with the 2 other big ones that survived the last closures. But we'll see I guess. I actually went in to get a disc resurfaced and they did that for me but they said it was probably the last day they could do so - this was Monday I think...

This store along with the others still left around here were supposed to be some of the big money-makers in the company, so like I said, if they are shutting down that ain't good.
 
My local GC in Midland, MI shut it's doors for good about a month back, but they shifted the last of their inventory to the Hollywood Video next door. I'd been checking in on a weekly basis as the deals got better and better. They're up to 60% off games now, but there's hardly anything of worth used. They've got quite a bit of new games left, but not any amazing games really. I picked up Stuntman Ignition for 4.00, Rockstar Table Tennis for 2.00, Prototype for 12.50, and a couple games I flipped over to Gamestop for a small profit after I'd gotten some play from them for a few days (Sonic Sega All-Star Racing for 20.00, Dark Void for 15.00).
